Anyone else out there with 5 plus stones to lose? Who fancies doing a weekly weigh in with me?

I have got really overweight in the last couple of years and would love to meet some others who might be trying to cut down but not exactly dieting. Where do you start when there is so much to lose? Any tips on evening snacking? TIA

KelaH - Wow, well done!!!!

Pink - Are you taking those appetite suppressants? Stop taking those tablets and start eating properly!! At the end of the day, you cant go on eating like that for the rest of your life, it just isn't healthy. "Dieting" isn't about eating less for a couple of weeks, it's about lifestyle changes, including what you eat and how you look at food etc. If you dont eat enough over long periods of time your body will get confused and not know when it's getting any more food/energy which means it will go into starvation mode. This means it will retain all the body fat that it can in order for it to survive and you will not lose weight! The body needs regular healthy balanced wholesome food for it to say "oh hang on, i know i'm getting some more fuel later so i can let go of this bit of fat". That includes making sure you eat enough carbs, protein and good fats/oils.

Sorry to rant at you (in a nice way, of course), but i really think you need to know what you are potentially doing to yourself!

Aero · 19/06/2008 12:58

Hooray - I lost 2lbs this week. Most I've lost for ages and I ate out three times, but didn't over-do it at all. I've now lost 15lbs, so got my little silver seven this morning. Next goal is 10% - 5.5 lbs to go for that one.

RG - you do talk good sense! We had a girl at our meetin a few weeks ago who couldn't understand how she wasn't losing weight. She was only having about 10 points a day!!!

Have to say I need my full quota (if for no other reason than I don't like feeling deprived, so any leftover points go on 'junk', albeit WW choc bars and quavers etc, but I want to feel I can have a bag of crisps etc if I want one.

Can I add myself to the list? This thread is really helping me stay motivated.

RGPargy · 19/06/2008 17:49

just had a quick check and she was prescribed reductil at the beginning of June, but i dont know if she's still taking them, although it does sound like it!

jaz236 · 19/06/2008 18:21

how come she was prescribed them>>>

RGPargy · 19/06/2008 18:31

Jaz - this was taken from a post she did on this thread on 2nd June:

"Now have kind of sorted my head out due to gp refusing me the pill and fam planning saying if i dont lose weight i have 4 more years and theyll take it off me too(if i stay this weight or gain)blush....they advised me to see gp and tell them how upset i am and how hard im finding it.so...saw nurse this morn who has prescribed reductil and have got to say(wether its in my mind or not???) i havent been hungry since about an hour after taking it???..im hoping it my miracle cure??..dont know much about it, but know i have to change my eating habits drastically too!"

PinkChick · 19/06/2008 20:00

god i thought my ears were burning..went to doc and asked for help and nurse prescribed reductil, they make you fel full quicker, i still get hungry, i just stop myself snacking and half my normal meals now fill me

So far today ive had cereal and ss milk for breakfast

grated cheese and onion on toast with cherry toms for lunch

and as i had course to go to (which finished early hence me being here now), i just had a piece of fish for tea as it was grab and run..will do something shortly as i am starting to feel a bit peckish, oh and had a hi lights drink this afty as its almost TOM and i crave sweet things

jaz236 · 19/06/2008 20:05

me thinks you arent eating alot there Pink?? are you ok?? how much were you weighing in before you took reductil??
does it work?

RGPargy · 19/06/2008 20:41

Sorry Pink, dont mean to talk about you when you're not here. We're just concerned that you're not eating enough. It doesn't seem like you're eating very much!

PinkChick · 19/06/2008 20:57

LOL, no RG i didnt take it any other way chick, i knew what you meant..actually a friend said the same to me today(Shes on sw and eats loads)

Hi Jaz, yes i believe it does work(or maybe im gullable and theyve give me smarties???)..i started taking it three weeks ago, i got weighed and was 16st 11lb, when i went back last week (she weighs me every two weeks) i was 15st 13lb, so a 12lb loss..since monday ive lost another 2lb so have lost a full stone now

I guess this week i have ate less, but i DO feel full much quicker, i still eat out on weekend and i have been very busy trying to work AND sort out my full kitchen rip out/renew which starts monday, so if im not working im on phone, internet ordering making plans..plus being on here stops me snacking so each night scouring web for fridgefreezers has stopped me munching

PinkChick · 19/06/2008 20:59

oh and yeah im fine jazz, im not about to starve myself, i know i need to eat (tbh i dont think i could, i do love my food, which is what got me here in first place)

Ags · 19/06/2008 23:55

Aero and Kela, WOW, you two are doing so bloody well. Fantastic losses and targets being smashed left, right and centre!

Pink, glad the reductil is working and you are not starving yourself. RG is right about re-educating your body but maybe by getting into the habit of eating less, you can help do that. The only bit of advice I would give is that there doesn't seem to be many fruit or veg in your list. Most veg and salad is free of points on weight watchers so is well worth sticking into your meals for nutrient alone! Isn't it nice that people care so much to talk about you in your absence?

Ags · 19/06/2008 23:57

Jaz, apart from the food thing are you actually having a nice time? I have some weird image of you being tied up in a holiday villa somewhere and force fed carbs!! I'm really hoping that you are not letting food spoil your break. Maybe you just have to ease up and jump back on the wagon when you come home. Whatever you do, enjoy it!

jaz236 · 20/06/2008 08:14

awwww yes its absolutely gorgeous here, im in durham its so beautiful i think its nicer than york.

i wouldnt mind trying this tablet just to get me on the straight and narrow - we are going back home tday yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

justRia · 20/06/2008 11:05

Hi guys. I haven't caught up but you all seem to be doing well.

Will you let me back to play? Please. (My DH "did something" to the PC while I was away and it's only just fixed.)

I am not doing so well. trying but failing I think covers it. I am just so tired and there seems to be so much else to do instead of prepare food... CRAP EXCUSE! I am trying to pluck up the courage to go to the GP as I'm wondering if I'm anaemic or somthing to make me feel so drained? But I am stupidly afraid of being told my problem is just that I am fat (which I already know so it should come as a surprise or anything)

Oh Bugger.

and, 5 minutes ago it was a gloriously sunny if windy day so I hung out loads of washing and now it's raining. ARSE.

Ags · 20/06/2008 11:13

Hello Ria, welcome back! Sorry you are feeling grim. Definately go to GP. Not every issue in life is due to being overweight even though I used to have a doctor who thought that very thing! Thankfully he is long gone.

Well done Chip! Things are going very well.

jaz236 · 20/06/2008 13:04

Hellooooooooo ladies Im back and hello ria!! i do think i should take this reductil to just sort my portion sizes out!
so in teh car on the way back my CARB IN LAWS packed some pork pies and sausgae rolls - unbloodybelievable im teling you!!

PinkChick · 20/06/2008 13:10

Hi all...yeah it is nice to have people talking thinking about me when im not here, such nice girls

im afraid today is still going to be bad for veg, fruit is ok, got bananas and apples but i do weekly shop tonight..thing is the kitchen gets fully ripped out monday so we are limited on space as what we can buy and store, so will have to just try and get a wider variety of fruit when im out and about each day as i wont have much facility to cook veg, think ill be living on microwave pasta in sauce and tortillas

Aero · 20/06/2008 16:37

Been to visit an old (as in length of friendship as opposed to age ) friend today and she did a lovely healthy lunch. Turns out she's been to WW too, although she only had a stone to lose in the first place, but it's all relative, and I reckon the smaller you are, the more you feel it when you put a lb or two on.

My other lovely friend gave me a late birthday present yesterday - mini choc fondue set and some Thorntons chocs. Oh dear! She knows I am slimmimg, but thought it wouldn't do any harm to have a few chocs (only seven in box). Bless her. They are indeed small, but at 2.5 points each, costly! I will have to eat them though (it would be rude not to, lol), so one a day for a week will be offset by more veggie dinners I think! Naturally, I felt obliged to use the little fondue pot last night and the dc were thrilled to have lots of pineapple and strawberries and a few marshmallows to dip in lovely melted chocolate. It was a lovely treat though, to be used wisely. No harm done as long as I choose carefully for the rest of the week.

WW kedgeree for dinner tonight, so low in points.
