I have got really overweight in the last couple of years and would love to meet some others who might be trying to cut down but not exactly dieting. Where do you start when there is so much to lose? Any tips on evening snacking? TIA

chocolatespiders · 20/06/2008 19:32

in the past i have been to my gp to get it... and he wouldnt give me it> maybe i will try again.....but now you have to tell the receptionist what your appt is for and dont know if i dare...

how much is it on the net?

did someone say lipobind was similar?

TotalChaos · 20/06/2008 19:35

Have lost 2.5 lbs, since last week, weighing at either 14st 1 or 14st 2, so it's a start!

Am quite curious about the reductil - does it have any other side effects? Have been rather put off by the poo problems people can have with Xenical!

jaz236 · 20/06/2008 20:24

oh my gawd what have we started here - oh no!!!!!!!!!!!

well i bought that slimthru nonsense this weekand im telling you it didnt work, there were no direrctions of use, i know its commen sense bout would have liked some more info! this cost me 12.38, and theres formaline which is advertised on tv and thats 20.00.

also passed chinese herbalist and they were advertising a tea, for one pack its 8.00 and bumper pack its 20.00 .

hmmmmmmmm im seeing pound signs dropping out of our purses and not off our hips ladies!

i think we should all just have to boost each other on!

PinkChick · 20/06/2008 20:24

i know Jaz..is it the tab i have that youve seen on net??..if so i wouldnt do it, i have to have blood pressure checked every 2 weeks as it can quickly and hugely affect it and i guess could be dangerous..do you know what your bmi is??..cos i was told(maybe on here i dont remember now?) that they will only prescribe it if your bmi is over 30?

if its a diff tab on net DEF dont go for it, my cousin (male) bought some, theyre basically speed(amphetamine) and you can go days without eating putting your system into shock, then as soon as you do eat/come off them your body is so messed up and you put weight STRAIGHT back on..def bad idea!

Well today like i said no veggies in, so have had

brekkie-cereal with ss milk

lunch - two slices of dry toast with very low fat philidelphia on

Tea - was poridge as people were round looking at kitchen and i had to grab something before i went shopping as they were here longer than they should...my mum has made me a mince and onion pie, she especially made very thin pastry all around it, so i may now have a slice of that with peas and carrots(just bought frozen micro ones in packet for steaming as oven will be out of bounds next week)

any way hope you all had lovely day, have fab weekend, speak to you all soon.x

jaz236 · 20/06/2008 20:25

here you go, thesea re the side effects!

Possible side effects: what to look for, what to do ?

Some people taking Reductil get side effects.
Most people don't. Most people who get side effects get them early on (in the first four weeks) and find they wear off over time. Generally, side effects are mild enough for people to decide to carry on taking Reductil.

The most common side effects
These might affect 10 in every 100 people or more.

Digestive system : Loss of appetite; constipation; dry mouth.
Other : Problems sleeping.

If these effects bother you, talk to a doctor or pharmacist.

----------------

Other common side effects
These might affect between 1 and 10 in every 100 people.

Heart and circulation : Fast heartbeats; palpitations; raised blood pressure; hot flushes.
Digestive system : Feeling sick; making piles (haemorrhoids) worse.
Skin : Sweating.
Senses : Odd taste.
Other : Light-headedness; pins and needles; headaches; feeling anxious.

PinkChick · 20/06/2008 20:26

TC..the main listed side affect on the packet is "may cause loss of appetite"!!

the blood pressure issue is the main one, they wont give it to you if you already have or are prone to high blood pressure as it can increase it vastly

jaz236 · 20/06/2008 20:28

pink ive just read what you have eaten all day are you ok hunni thats not alot, i know ive just come back from an all carbs holiday, but it doesnt seem alot - have a good weekend hunni xxx

PinkChick · 20/06/2008 20:28

ooh now i have noticed the sweating one!...posted about that when i first started taking them, ive had to switch deo's and i NEVER had prob before, but it is managed(im not a stinker now)...other than loss of appetite i have NONE of those other side effects....mouth dry today but think im getting cold again

jaz236 · 20/06/2008 20:29

right the healthy eating starts from tomorrow and its a lifestyle change!

PinkChick · 20/06/2008 20:32

hiya JAz, yes im fine...REALLY...when i 'do' SW i live on noodles and porridge, yes i know i should eat more veggies and fruit, but the amount im eating nowreally IS enough, i cant believe it either, i am greedy and could eat for england..I promise i WILL eat more veg and fruit..pinky promise...but im really just not hungry, its more just like a means to an end now instead of my every thought being about food..im kind of conditioning myself to think of other things..suppose the kitchen nightmare is helping and have bought lots of micros(Steam) veg, chicken, pasta's, rice's etc tonight so i dont end up in takeaway every night for a fortnight!

TotalChaos · 20/06/2008 21:57

jaz - thanks for the info. please don't order off the net, even if you get the right drugs it might not be right for you.

think the BP thing might make me unsuitable, seeign as I had to come off the pill due to it sending my BP up.

RGPargy · 20/06/2008 22:16

Hi everyone

Those reductil sound like a slow release speed/amphetamine type drug. Personally, i would steer well clear, but that's just my opinion. Having tried all sorts of slimming pills before, you kind of get to know the side effects of these things and it aint good!

justRia · 20/06/2008 22:32

Hi again. I made the Drs apppt straight after my post (you see, I need you guys). All this talk of side effects and I've looked up implanon on the net and it seems all my symptoms could be directly related. Will see what the GP says on Monday.

Have a good weekend.

Ags · 21/06/2008 09:27

Ria, well done on drs appointment. Don't let him blame everything on the weight. Good luck with it.

The only slimming pill I ever took was Xenical (sp?). I took it for about a month and it was fine but my head wasn't so I lost weight for the month and then just fell off the wagon. This was about 6 years ago. In my honest opinion, pills may help as they may get you to the place where you feel that losing weight is actually possible. But I would really really be careful about getting pills from anywhere other than the doctor. Pink is right about the blood pressure testing. The other danger with any 'slimming aid' is that when you stop taking it, psychologically will you find it hard to maintain your weight loss as you feel your 'fix' has gone?! I don't know the answer to this, just thinking out loud.

Have a great weekend everyone.

jaz236 · 21/06/2008 09:38

Im going to stick to healthy eating!! adn try and do davinia most morings.,

and not visit my carb in laws!

RGPargy · 21/06/2008 10:22

That sounds like a good plan Jaz

I had a terrible time on pills prescribed to me by the doctor years ago. He was a very pill happy doctor so thought nothing of prescribing them for me. I just laid it on how unhappy i was etc and he said that they could have some nasty side effects but i said i could handle it no worries. The tablets were called Duramine and have now actually been banned in this country!

Anyway, while i was taking these tablets, i didn't feel like eating at all and had to force myself to eat something. I remember however at one point not eating for FIVE DAYS because i just didn't think about food and didn't want to eat. They also made me quite high and messed with my mind as i wasn't thinking straight at all!

I'm really glad they are banned now. They were a really nasty drug!! I'm sure that the slimming aids these days are much better policed than they were back in 1998-ish. Just be careful ladies, that's all i'm trying to say.

I'll deffo be sticking to healthy eating from now on tho.

jaz236 · 21/06/2008 12:53

Oh my gawd thats terrible, did you loose loads of weight? its not worth it in the long run. I was watching supersize skinny last nite and this diabetic girl stopped taking her insulin at times as it would make her loose weight, she went blind in one eye - dont realise how much damage we are doing to our bodies in the long run.

When i was a size 8 i was doing laxatives as well, i would eat a few exlax which was vile adn then id eat loads knowing id be on the toilet later. Who knows what damage ive done, and this was in my 20's!!

RGPargy · 21/06/2008 13:16

Jaz - yeah i think i lost quite a bit on them, but i wasn't overly overweight like i am now. All the weight i did lose i put straight back on anyway, and more on top of that!!

I also sometimes did the laxatives thing too because a friend of mine was doing them and encouraged me to do them too. Oh how niave we are when we're young, eh?!!

Never again!

PinkChick · 21/06/2008 20:22

HI Every one..had a busy but nice day today, been out for tea with dd, dp and my mum tonight as ive been packing the kitchen things away most of day!

brekkie was cereal and ss milk..dp called at greasy spoon on way back from kitchen showroom and said do you want anything?..are you sure??...you CAN eat you know??.... but i said no, i really didnt fancy anything and thats were i sued to go wrong, i used to eat for eating sake..but i knew as it is weekend we would go out for meal at some point, so wanst going to blow it..even when he got back on car with huge baguette filled with bacon it didnt bother me!...even walking past aisles and aisles of choc in woolies didnt interest me(god i think ive been taken over by aliens!)...

For lunch i had little slice of mums home made mince and onion pie(all fat drained off and dry fried, then put into very thin pastry) with toms, lettuce and cucumber..

then for dinner we went out and as i fancied a little treat i had the small chicken parmesean with jacket and salad..it was beautiful and when it came to desert i said i fancied something(havent had anything apart from hi lights in almost 4 weeks) so instead of ordering a big fat plateful to myself i asked dp if i could share his...he got rhubard crumble with custard, i had two spoon fulls and that was enough to satisfy my sweet cravinggrin]...i REALLY enjoyed it but am well and truely stuffed now!

hope everyone else has had a nice day? weather grotty here so will be swimming in morn, then dp wants to go hol clothes shopping afterwards..im gonna hold off for few weeks yet, but ill hold the bags for him

RGPargy · 21/06/2008 21:54

Hi Pink

Sounds like a much better day's food - and lots of salad etc in there too. Good for you!

Haven't had a bad day either (except for the vino i'm drinking lol) so there's hope for us all yet!

PinkChick · 21/06/2008 22:08

..and there was me thinking i was cheating !...am off for dry martini and lemo now, am knackerd after all that packing today!...enjoy your wine

justRia · 21/06/2008 22:43

well done pink, that sounds like a good day and much better self-control than me.

Been a long day. am having wine. Yum.

I am working on getting my head back in the right place.

Those diet pill stories are scary, and the diabetic one. Tis an evil world we live in.The worst I've done is slim fast and those nasty 20cal soups (when I should have been perfectly satisfied at size 14 FFS). If I'd known then...

Good luck for tomorrow everyone.

RGPargy · 21/06/2008 22:54

Enjoy the wine Ria. hope you get your head where it should be.
