I have got really overweight in the last couple of years and would love to meet some others who might be trying to cut down but not exactly dieting. Where do you start when there is so much to lose? Any tips on evening snacking? TIA

Hey Choc, brilliant on the weight loss and brilliant on the new man. Oh so exciting to have a funny tum! I remember that feeling. Good luck with it all and keep us up to date.

KelaH · 17/05/2008 09:29

I had a really bad day yesterday. Was feeling quite sorry for myself, and went to the shop to get something for dinner and ended up getting loads of bad things. Does anyone have any tips to stop comfort eating or should I just accept it will happen and make sure I make up for it afterwards?

chocolatespiders · 17/05/2008 09:48

were you hungry in the shop? i def notice a difference to what i buy if i have eaten before going shopping!!

i have just done exercise dvd.... before breakfast.. but not sure what to have for breakfast...

does anyone know how many points tortilla wraps are as i have been having them instead of bread

DANCESwithLordPottingtonSmythe · 17/05/2008 09:56

OK now this is a bit stalkery but I know Ags in RL (I'm not outing myself on here though!) and you can BLARDY WELL tell how much weight she has lost. She is looking fabulous - especially in that red coat lovely lady I'm always on a diet and struggle with it so hats off to her everyone on this thread. Keep it up girls

Hi everyone, and welcome to all new posters.

Have had a couple of weeks of being up and down. I've just been catching up on the posts and the thing about living in a hot country is that you eat just as much as you would in the UK. I live in Cadiz, the left of Gibraltar and bingeing is exactly the same. No matter where you go you can't escape your demons!

As Ags said if we go on blaming our overeating on having a bad day, stressful time, tiredness, hormones etc etc we'll never change. I do find the more sensibly I eat the more emotional I get, like the eating conceals my emotions or something and eating healthily leaves me feeling more exposed. I am finding it hard doing the sensible eating and keeping my emotions in check. I have been a bit sensitive and if I'm out and someone is rude to me, I just flip out and have a real go at them and then think afterwards "Oh my God, was that me?"

Is anyone else having this experience of being extra sensitive that doesn't have anything to do with being hungry?

Thanks Dances! But am mortified that you know me. I knew I should have namechanged for this. My weight causes me a lot of embarrassment and I have been very open on here (more so than I can be in RL) so please don't ever acknowledge to me in RL that you have read my posts. And I also hope that you would never tell anyone else about what I have posted. Thank you, I know you are being supportive and lovely but am a bit freaked out!

Ags · 17/05/2008 15:01

DAnces, ok, am over the shock now and not freaked out anymore. Thanks for the lovely comments. I still have a long way to go but it is lovely when people notice. Ta love.

KelaH · 17/05/2008 15:44

Choc - no, wasn't hungry, just fed up and a little depressed I think and wanted a nice treat to cheer myself up - I knew at the time it was a bad idea but didn't care

DANCESwithLordPottingtonSmythe · 17/05/2008 15:57

Oh god sorry Ags! I am on a weight loss threads and have been open too - I know what you mean, I would be horrified if anyone in the small community we live in knew who I was but I thought because you were quite open you didn't mind. Don't worry I won't say a WORD, I would NEVER do that, mumsnet is a sacred space as far as I am concerned. You are absolutely anon I promise. Oh I feel terrible. I really wanted you to know how fantastically you are doing. Sorry again. Your secret is safe with me

Ags · 17/05/2008 20:43

Dances, honestly don't worry. In fact, am pretty sure I know who you are and am relieved that it is you. Was worried it might be a more gossipy sort!! Am I right in saying, "I am so glad you are better!"? And I really do take your post in the spirit you meant it so please don't think I am remotely offended. x

DANCESwithLordPottingtonSmythe · 17/05/2008 20:54

Ags · 18/05/2008 09:56

Now, how is everyone doing this weekend? Good weekend/Bad weekend? Mine has been ok. Bit dull but ok. Foodwise, I am eating within my points but have a bit of a chocolate craving at the moment which I am just managing to keep under control. The Crunchie a day helps.

RGPargy · 18/05/2008 11:10

hi everyone!

Choc - good luck with the new man!! Hope you enjoyed the moon walk too.

Not eating in hot climates - It makes absolutely no difference to me if it's hot or not. I still want to eat!! Probably more so if i'm in spain visiting my mum because we're in holiday mode and just want to sit in the beach bars drinking beer and eating chips lol (well, i do anyway!)

i've had an awful week diet-wise this week. i've gone over every single day and so i have decided that i'm not buying bloody WW cakes etc anymore as they are my downfall and that is what is using my points up! Yesterday was a washout too. We went to PILs to initially help with some wiring (DP is a sparky) and ended up staying for beers and a curry!! However, i had the most GORGEOUS chicken dopiaza i have ever tasted and it was well worth it, i can tell you! I'm feeling it now tho as my tummy is a little bloated and the spare bed we slept in is absolutely awful and really uncomfortable. It feels like i've been out raving all night as my body is aching and i'm just sooo tired!! I suppose that's my punishment for the curry lol.

I'm dreading the weigh in tomorrow. I can guarantee that i'd have put on at least 2lbs.

jaz236 · 18/05/2008 12:00

Right then Rgpargy il swap places with u and go to spain - I cant see how I would eat chips out there as I would like to think that i would be active all day and be in a nice swimming costume or something.

does anyone know how many points the pringles rice crisps are.

i know what u mean abt the WW cakes, ive gone mad on them, especially the victoria sponges, i thought i was possesed they were taking over my life one day last week!

RGPargy · 18/05/2008 13:37

lol jaz!! you wont catch me in a cozzie!!! Cant help but want chips out there tho coz all you can smell is cooking and it just makes me hungreeeeeee!!!

the cakes are deffo lethal. NO MORE FOR ME!!!

chocolatespiders · 18/05/2008 15:04

hi all

the moonwalk was fantastic......

i havent eaten since 7.00 last night.... took snacks with me for the moonwalk but didnt eat anything...

i know this is really wrong and you will all shout at me... but how can i lose the most ammount of weight over the next few weeks.. is it best to avoid carbs.....? have protein and salad?

hope everyone is having a good weeekend

RGPargy · 18/05/2008 15:39

Hi choc!

Glad you enjoyed the walk! You really should be eating something by now tho......

Anyway, yes, you could cut out carbs, like bread, pasta, rice and potatoes. Also cut out sugar too and drink lots and lots of water every day, preferably about 3 litres per day if you can manage it. You'll still get enough carbohydrates to run your body in vegetables, salad and fruit (try and have just berries if you can as these have the least amount of carbs). make sure too that you eat plenty of protein - lean meat, eggs etc. Dont go too mental with it tho or you'll end up feeling ill. if you want to go down the Atkins/low carb route then that's slightly different and alot harder too!

Anyway, that's the basics of cutting out carbs but dont forget to eat PLENTY of veg, salad and protein!

chocolatespiders · 18/05/2008 15:45

thanks rgpargy

i have just had a small tin of tuna with salad but i had to force it down.... TBH i dont know what is wrong with me... but i def do not want my body to go into stavation mode and cling to the fat!!!!!- not sure if this is true as when exp left me and i didnt eat through devastation i lost loads of weight so my body didnt cling to the weight then..

i just want to give myself a boost to keep me going.....before the hot weather returns..

RGPargy · 18/05/2008 17:00

Stress can make you lose weight too tho choc. I would honestly suggest you carry on doing what you are doing, i.e. WW, and just eat sensibly!! At the end of the day, quick fixes aren't the answer and if you do cut out the carbs, when you re-introduce them, all the weight will probably go back on again! I got down to 16st 10lbs whilst low carbing but here i am, 4 years later with another 3 stone on top of that!

Slowly but surely is the ONLY way. Honestly.

jaz236 · 18/05/2008 17:44

im going to do that im going to ct the carbs as from tmoz, my friend has done that and she looks amazing - she has a new man though who lives at the gym hence why shes practically starving - is this good though if ur still breastfeeding??

jaz236 · 18/05/2008 20:58

also does anyone know how many points the pringles rice crisps are.

ChipButty · 18/05/2008 21:00

I would echo what RGPargy says - that losing weight slowly, though tedious, is the only way to go. You really shouldn't cut out any food group completely, just eat sensibly and up your activity levels. Whilst BF, I would be taking no chances at all.

BTW I have had a good weekend, though find it much tougher to be 'good' when I'm not at work. Tomorrow is weigh day for me, so we'll see!
