Anyone else out there with 5 plus stones to lose? Who fancies doing a weekly weigh in with me?

I have got really overweight in the last couple of years and would love to meet some others who might be trying to cut down but not exactly dieting. Where do you start when there is so much to lose? Any tips on evening snacking? TIA

I might have to invest in the MoS DVD too - i've heard good things about it!

PinkChick · 14/05/2008 20:41

HI, could i join?, got approx 5-6 stone to lsoe to be how i want, never been that weight since i was much much younger and i find it all really diffficult..i do do well if i go to a class, but tbh i am finding it hard to 'get into' right now and cant afford to waste £5 each week..need ideas and encourangemnt(sorry to sound needy)

RGPargy · 14/05/2008 20:44

Hi PinkChick!!

No need for apologies for feeling "needy"! We are all needy people here, or else we wouldn't be on this thread in "need" of support!!

What class were you on? Was it WW or SW?

Ags · 14/05/2008 21:23

Hi to all the new joiners. Great to have an expanding thread while we try to shrink!

I posted something on another weightloss thread I am on that I am going to re-post on here. I am successfully losing weight for the first time in my life and I am trying to quantify what has changed. So here it goes, my attempt to analyse the changes to my thinking.

  1. I have had two yummy children and don't want any more. So in a way I feel I am ready and my body is mine and won't be affected by pregnancy again.
  1. I eat only what I like. I hate feeling deprived so that means a large portion of something delicious. I try not to waste points on anything that will not taste nice.
  1. I always have a treat every day. Mostly a Crunchie which I leave til night time. Children asleep, me with my Crunchie and cup of coffee. Bliss.
  1. I do not apologise for what I eat. Previously I would always try to 'fit in' and fool myself that it would be rude not to eat the cakes/chocolate/take away etc. I am more than happy to be in the company of people who eat them, indeed I am happy to serve them but I don't eat them anymore.
  1. I have recognised that I could excuse every single emotion, occasion, bad day, good day, morning, afternoon, evening as an excuse to eat unhealthily. So, I have stopped saying things like "this was a bad week because I went to a wedding". Instead, I try to save points through the week, indulge in whatever I feel like at the event and then get straight back to healthy eating the next day. If I stay the same that week or only lose a half I have done well.
  1. I tend to do the 'breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper' thing. It seems to suit my digestion to eat lightly after 6pm.
  1. I started at 21 stones 4 pounds so I have a very large amount of weight to lose - almost 10 stones to get inside my healthy weight range! I have tended to focus only on my interim goals (indeed initially my 10% seemed too big a goal to focus on) like each half stone, dropping from one stone to another (ie going from 18stone 1 to 17 stone 13), going up another digit in pounds lost (ie going from 48 pounds lost to 51 pounds lost). If there is a numerical goal to be found, I will find it. I also keep a spreadsheet in excel of my weekly weight loss with the milestones highlighted and a projection of future weight loss based on an average 2 lb loss per week. I know, completely sad but this all spurs me along. I can look ahead and hope that, all going well, by August when I go to Ascot, I will be in the 16 stone range!
  1. I write off a bad day and get straight back into the good eating. I don't focus on what I already ate and concentrat instead, on saving points to make up for it.

Having said all this, I am still crossing my fingers every week hoping my bubble doesn't burst and hoping that if it does I will be able to mend it.

Good vibes to everyone!

RiaButterflew · 14/05/2008 21:34

it certainly sounds like you've got your head round it ags. Hope I can learn from you. Good luck.

RGPargy · 14/05/2008 21:56

Wow Ags, you really are focussed - good for you!! All the very best of luck for your future weight loss. not that you'll need it of course as you are doing so so well!

SLH2727 · 14/05/2008 22:17

Hello everyone,

Would love to join your weigh in. I'm 5ft 7 and weigh 14 stone 9lbs! Its the same old story, weight creeping on after 2 children. I had my last son 18 months ago and was 13 stone 3lb after I'd had him and shamefully have put on a stone and half since!!

I feel really fed up and embarrassed by my weight especially as all my friends, mum and sister are slim!! Even my husband who is overweight has been dieting and has lost half a stone in a week!!

Any motivation, tips etc. would be gratefully received.

Many thanks and good luck to everyone.

RGPargy · 14/05/2008 22:59

hello and welcome SLH!

KelaH · 15/05/2008 08:51

Welcome to all the new people - hope you find the support from this group as invaluable as I have!!

SLH - isn't it annoying how men find it so much easier to lose weight!! And they are allowed to eat more to begin with

jaz236 · 15/05/2008 09:37

well tday im very poorly i have really bad period pains which is strange as before i was pregnant i was always fine, after having bambino i suffer! so i dont think i will be eating much tday, im so off my food!

Well done choc!!!

jaz236 · 15/05/2008 18:52

i get regular emails abt those pink patches, i think with all these quick fix diets is all a con and the only thing that you will loose is pounds out of your wallets!

When I was a size 8 that was 10 years ago but i was back then obsessed with my weight even then and shouldnt have been. I was living at the gym and my trainer used to say that the slim fast products should be banned!

healthy way to loose weight and i now its boring is steadily and sensibly.

RiaButterflew · 15/05/2008 20:13

that's what I thought, just interested to see if anyone had tried them. I agree about slimfast though (havng tried it when I was a size 14 aged 16 , I should have been happy but b'stard boyfriend used to say I was a lot heavier than the last girl he'd taken on his motorbike, if I'd known then what I know now!)

jaz236 · 16/05/2008 10:12

Oh my gawd what a vile boyfriend, but then at 16 we were all the same wanting to be someone we werent, I guess its even harder now as the size 0 image is rammed down our throats, countless books and magazines on dieting, ts a big money spin im telling you!

We all want it, but it all boils down to sensible eating! i reckon I if i lived somehwree where its hot i wouldnt be the size i am!! and thats a fact my dears!

RiaButterflew · 16/05/2008 11:18

If I lived somewhere hot I would probably just be fat and hot

I am enjoying playing tennis though, so I have achieved something this week, even if I don't lose (again), although I have cut back the snacking a bit.

chocolatespiders · 16/05/2008 12:07

i love tennis....

i agree if i lived somewhere hot i would live on salads like i did this week with the hot weather....

I have started something with a gorg bloke and i have eaten very little as i have a wired feeling in my tummy... i poured a smootie earlier and could hardly swallow it... it is a very strange feeling

jaz236 · 16/05/2008 13:08

ur in love chocolate spiders! wohooooooooooooooooo

its true i dont think if i lived in a hot place i would be throwing plates of hot pot and pies and pastys down my neck, and i wouldnt be eating huge quantities either!

tell us more abt gorge bloke!

chocolatespiders · 16/05/2008 14:35

Jaz it is to new to tell you anymore but i promise to keep you updated..... I have been single for 3 years so it is exciting.......
and if the only thing that comes out of it is i lose a few pounds then whooppppeeee!!!!!

i need to think about food a bit though as i am at the moon walk tomorrow (volunteer) and have to be up all night so i will need something inside me ......

what can i try and eat?

RiaButterflew · 16/05/2008 14:59

pasta/porridge before you go, snack on bananas?

jaz236 · 16/05/2008 15:43

yes porridge is really good and also bannanas for energy!

well keep us posted with the new man, that should boost your confidence as well - lets hope hes wineing and dining you!

really we could do with some hot weather again then it could be bbq's - grilled chicken and fish and salads then - I wish!

whats moonwalking apart from what wacko jacko does?

chocolatespiders · 16/05/2008 16:02

the moon walk is 15,000 women/men? power walking 26 miles in there decorated bras around london all for breast cancer care...
it starts at midnight tomorrow night and finishes sunday morning....there is a website about it......

SummatAndNowt · 16/05/2008 16:10

Well I've been out walking the past two mornings! Sets me up to not snack as much in the day.
