Losing a couple of kg support thread

GetYourHandOut · 28/04/2024 15:36

I'm blaming the shite weather rather than the biscuits but I'm still in my winter phase and am at the top end of my usual weight range.

I'd like to lose a couple of kg to feel more comfortable and confident as summer (hopefully) approaches.

Does anyone want to join me for a support and accountability thread?

Have to say that I haven’t tried too hard with the diet!
Height 5 ft 1
2 wks ago - 9 st
Today - 8 13lbs
My weight fluctuates by a couple of pounds anyway.

I have started couch to 5k 2 weeks ago which I’m finding much harder than 10 years ago
Also joined and been to the gym a few times!
Pleased with that as I’m lazy!
Got my son’s wedding in 10 weeks - would like a few pounds off but that means a concerted effort with the diet!! Wouldn’t say I was overeating and am being a bit more mindful!

Eyesopenwideawake · 11/05/2024 12:38

Do any of you track your percentage of fat on your scales? (No idea how accurate they are.) I'm currently running at 30-32% which is too high, I feel far better at around 28%.

everycowandagain · 11/05/2024 14:56

@Eyesopenwideawake there is an InBody machine in the gym that claims to tell you your muscle and fat mass but I don't think it's that accurate. It currently thinks I am 32% body fat. Last time I finished a diet phase it had me at around 28% so similar numbers to you.

everycowandagain · 11/05/2024 14:57

The weight I am aiming for this time would in theory put me at about 26.5% (if I can drag myself off this sun lounger and get some steps in!!)

MinnieMountain · 11/05/2024 17:12

Can I join? I want to get from 67kg to 63kg.

I think I exercise enough. I cycle or walk everywhere and I swim 3 times a week. My willpower is crap, so I’ll have seconds when I’m full or have too big a portion.

everycowandagain · 11/05/2024 17:51

Of course @MinnieMountain, welcome!

Sounds like you know what you need to focus on. Easier said than done though.

MinnieMountain · 11/05/2024 18:30

Exactly @everycowandagain . I need accountability. DH is too lovely to agree I’ve got a podgy stomach.

Proteinpud · 11/05/2024 19:28

I think bodyfat scales aren't accurate when they give you a bodyfat %, but they are helpful to keep track and see if it's going up or down, if that makes sense.

I'm thinking I will need to find some new recipes if I want to lose any weight. I have been trying to eat healthier, eat more veg, limit the portions if I go for chocolate, and yet... I've just looked at my average a day since I started tracking three weeks ago and its 1850, I'm not going to lose weight on that, even with exercise. I feel like my subconscious is very good at eating back any deficits I try and introduce!

SaggyOldClothDog · 12/05/2024 08:33

Well, it's not been the best week! I've been weighing daily so I can work out my weekly average. While my weekly average is 71.3kg ( the same as it was last Sunday), I'm 0.6kg heavier than I was on Monday. 🤦

My weight can fluctuate quite a bit from day to day - it's just that recently all the fluctuations have been in a upward direction🤣.

Still, it's a new day...

everycowandagain · 12/05/2024 08:45

Keep at it @SaggyOldClothDog it's a slog sometimes

@ProteinPud yes exactly, it's about the trend rather than the absolute number

I have logged my food and I am off for my gym session shortly. I am going to talk to my trainer about trimming my calories slightly - I am making good progress but my goal is relatively aggressive and I have a weekend away etc to get through. I would rather have slightly lower calories earlier on than have to drop them really low in the last few weeks. Having said that, my trainer's main role is to make sure I don't go too hard too soon so we'll see what he says!!

Out for a walk this afternoon too.

Proteinpud · 12/05/2024 09:14

This week I've done four strength sessions, a 4hr hike and two bike rides, tried to eat sensibly and I'm the same weight as when I started tracking three weeks ago! I'd like to say I'm gaining muscle and losing fat but to be frank, the way my clothes fit tells otherwise.
Going to try and go lower next week and see if I can find something sustainable. I want to lose weight but it depends at what cost!

everycowandagain · 12/05/2024 12:09

@Proteinpud it's hard to find the right level where you are in enough of a deficit to lose noticeable body fat without it affecting everything else ie energy levels, sleep, training... my squats sucked this morning!

I am dropping to 1700 calories this week, I am quite near to my first mini goal of going under 140 pounds. Hopefully that will spur me on!

Proteinpud · 12/05/2024 15:33

Well done @everycowandagain ! Thats exciting to be close to a mini goal. Are you doing this for any particular reason, eg competitions, or just to see what you can do?

I think I need to be aiming for 1600. I don't have many days where I go over, and not by huge amounts - eg eating out, I am going to have more than I would at home but I'm still relatively sensible (eg I'll have steak and fries rather than a takeaway with deep fried food or rice and naan). However going over a couple of times has bumped my average up I think, as I'd been aiming for around 1700-1750. So if I aim a bit lower then my average should be a bit lower overall.

Im not concerned about building muscle at this point but I don't want to lose strength so I think I'll need to keep tweaking to see if I can find my sweet spot. I certainly feel better for eating more fruit and veg so I'm keeping in mind there's other benefits to improving my diet.

Defrump · 12/05/2024 16:31

Ooh can I join pls
I have a spare tyre and want to drop at least 3 kg
Current weight 56kg
Actually I would be happy with 54kg
I just don't want this overhang
I've cut out processed sugar and snacks and I want to start hula hooping again to target the belly
Has anyone seen results with a weighted hoop?

everycowandagain · 12/05/2024 17:09

@Defrump welcome! Not tried a weighted hoop, I don't think I have the coordination!! Any extra movement is good though, especially if you enjoy it.

@ProteinPud those occasional meals out etc do add up especially if your calorie target is low. I use nutracheck and it shows you your total for the week, I do keep an eye on my weekly average to keep myself honest. I am mostly tightening up a bit for the summer/holidays. Also might do a 'lean bulk' afterwards so it's helpful to start with lower body fat. But it's mostly vanity!

Proteinpud · 12/05/2024 20:24

@everycowandagain yes I use nutracheck to and that's how I realised the average is higher than I expected - I mean, the 1600 days stick in my mind a lot more than the 1900 days!

I've batched cooked a chicken curry, beef chilli and pieces of marinaded chicken today so I'm set for the week ahead. Also done an hour of jiu jitsu, 45mins stationary bike and got in 12000 steps today. I just happened to eat 1600kcal worth of meals and 300kcals worth of biscuits. Best laid plans... Tomorrow is a new day!!

Proteinpud · 12/05/2024 20:31

@Defrump not sure how old you are but if you're menopausal you might need to learn to live with a bit of a belly. It can be one of those things even when very slim (which it sounds like you are given the weight you've mentioned)
I read recently that post menopause we start producing oestrogen in our belly which is mind boggling!
Not to put you off working on your health but just to be kind to yourself about how much is within your control.

everycowandagain · 13/05/2024 07:38

OK well it's the beginning of week 3 and I need to stay focused now it's getting tougher. I am quite tired from the lower calories and extra steps, but I am going to keep plugging away at it. I have logged my food for the day.

I am up a pound today but I know it's normal fluctuations, I did a hard leg session in the gym yesterday and a lot of steps so it's to be expected.

Hope everyone else is staying focused and hitting their goals!

RamaSita · 13/05/2024 07:42

Weighed in and am down to 72kg from 73kg, hurrah! Considering we were celebrating last week I'm pleased with that. Now hopefully the proper motivation will kick in. Need to do some meal planning and prep to help me on my way. A fresh week everyone! Let's go.

Proteinpud · 13/05/2024 07:51

Well done @Ramasita!

Defrump · 13/05/2024 07:57

@Proteinpud Hello, I am 54 and used to be very slim. I don't honestly mind a bit of belly with emphasis on the bit! Sadly what I have at the moment is pure flab so if I can reduce it in any way I will be happy with that

everycowandagain · 13/05/2024 08:30

Great job @RamaSita!!

GetYourHandOut · 13/05/2024 19:55

Well done @RamaSita!

@Defrump that's fair enough, just remember to be kind to yourself about it all!

I haven't lost any weight, not surprised. Today I did a weights session and a martial arts class so at least I'll be getting fitter, even if not smaller!

GetYourHandOut · 14/05/2024 07:46

After staying the same last week, it looks like my weight is coming down a bit this week, so that was motivating this morning - despite a lovely chocolate brownie out with a friend yesterday!
