Losing a couple of kg support thread

GetYourHandOut · 28/04/2024 15:36

I'm blaming the shite weather rather than the biscuits but I'm still in my winter phase and am at the top end of my usual weight range.

I'd like to lose a couple of kg to feel more comfortable and confident as summer (hopefully) approaches.

Does anyone want to join me for a support and accountability thread?

managed day one of couch to five k yesterday. I need to kick my junk food habit though to make a real difference. Trying again on that one today.

everycowandagain · 30/04/2024 09:47

Great day 1 @notgettinganyyounger! I had a good day 1, hit my calories and macros and hit my step target.

Same again today for me, steps/calories plus focusing on well-being ie sleep and relaxation. I have planned my food for the day and logged it.

everycowandagain · 30/04/2024 09:47

@Thighdentitycrisis one day at a time! Great job on c25k.

GetYourHandOut · 30/04/2024 13:04

Hi all.

It's only day 2 but I'm definitely being much more mindful about what I'm eating in terms of snacks.

notgettinganyyounger · 30/04/2024 21:02

Well done all.
Day 2 complete, not bad, no snacking so far!
Steps done. I keep thinking I must have lost a teeny bit. Jeans feel ever so slightly less tight.

notgettinganyyounger · 30/04/2024 21:51

Just crumbled and had a massive ham sandwich. Bugger!

everycowandagain · 01/05/2024 07:08

It could have been a LOT worse than a ham sandwich @notgettinganyyounger !!

I had a good day 2 yesterday, hit my calories etc and I have already logged most of my food for today. Have a PT session later and will get my steps in.

GetYourHandOut · 01/05/2024 09:16

Agreed re the sandwich!
Today is a new day @notgettinganyyounger

Day 3 not too bad!
No night time snacking so far!@everycowandagain well done!

IDontLikePinaColadas · 01/05/2024 22:14

Can I join you all? Went low carb a couple of years ago and lost 5kg really quickly but it's creeping back on now I'm back wfh and not hitting my step count like I used to, but don't want to low carb again (the bread craving was too strong!)

notgettinganyyounger · 01/05/2024 22:46

@IDontLikePinaColadas welcome!
Bread is my downfall too 🤣

everycowandagain · 02/05/2024 07:56

All welcome @IDontLikePinaColadas

I hope everyone is doing ok. I had a good day 3, hit my goals, and the scale was actually down slightly this morning - although I don't pay too much attention to daily movement, I focus more on the trend over a couple of weeks so it's really just about getting the first couple of weeks of data at the moment - but I feel like I am doing the right things.

I am eating out for one meal today so the rest of the day is damage limitation!

CheapMustard · 02/05/2024 08:20

It’s all going well, I’ve really cut down food and have it planned, and prepared which makes a massive difference. No last minute pasta pesto with peas as I can’t be arsed and that’s all we have!

Now to up the exercise. I’ve been feeling terrible lately, I’ve just started a course of B12 injections. Hopefully that will help kick start my energy levels!

@notgettinganyyounger well done avoiding the night-time snacks!

@IDontLikePinaColadas welcome! Challenge for the day… avoid bread!

ManchesterBeatrice · 02/05/2024 14:24

I'm due to 54.3 kg but does anybody else find that you just don't feel like you've massively lost weight. I'm down from 59 kg at the start of March, but don't feel an awful lot thinner. It's genuinely bizarre.

IDontLikePinaColadas · 02/05/2024 18:33

Well I’ve avoided bread (so far anyway!)

Very frustrating day at work but resisted the urge to pour myself a large G&T and actually got on the Peloton (aka world’s most expensive clothes horse) for the first time in ages.

Am I allowed that G&T now?!

GetYourHandOut · 02/05/2024 18:47

@everycowandagain I'm a daily weigher, but like you, I keep an eye on the pattern over time. I like the graph on my iPhone health app!

Avoided the biscuit tin at work yesterday AND today 🙌

Maltesers is all I'm saying.

everycowandagain · 03/05/2024 06:52

@ManchesterBeatrice I think I am the opposite, 3 days of calorie deficit and no weight change and I am convinced I look different already - which I don't!!

I think it can depend on where you hold your body fat though, that makes a difference to how much you see the difference. Have you tried taking measurements/progress photos as well as weight?

everycowandagain · 03/05/2024 06:55

I had a very light dinner yesterday after lunch out (which I managed to track reasonably well) so I think I ended up pretty close to my target calories.

Planning on doing some time on the spin bike today after my gym session, and keeping my food in check during the day so I can have a glass of wine later.

I feel like I have made a good start and been reasonably consistent but my calories only give me a fairly small deficit at the moment so I may squeeze them down 50-100/day next week.

GetYourHandOut · 04/05/2024 07:59

Morning all.

My weight has dropped down quite a bit this week but I'm aware it's the bank holiday weekend ahead of me, so I don't want to get too cocky!

I'm really pleased for breaking the work-biscuit tin habit this week. That does me no favours and I don't even enjoy biscuits that much! I need to not even have one because then I eat loads.

We've got a family party on Sunday so plenty of eating and drinking.

What's everyone else got on?

OP posts:
PotatoPudding · 04/05/2024 08:05

I need to lose half a stone but no opportunity to exercise.

everycowandagain · 04/05/2024 11:11

@GetYourHandOut I had a nice drop this morning but I am not celebrating too soon because I still have 8 weeks and up to 4kg to get through!! We are spending time with family and generally relaxing, I am going to track and hit my goals as best I can.

everycowandagain · 04/05/2024 11:12

@PotatoPudding exercise is helpful but not vital, it's diet that will get you there.

SaggyOldClothDog · 04/05/2024 11:36

Can I join in please? Weight has been creeping up (again!) and we're going on our first beach holiday since pre-Covid in August.

That, and the suspected start of perimenopause means I need to do something.

Am going to try and avoid strict calorie counting (I can never keep it up long term) but am going to cut down on snacks and portion sizes. And I should probably try and cut the carbs down a bit 😭 (she says, after finishing off a nice health breakfast of eggs, veg and avo on toast with an extra slice of toast smothered in jam🤦).

I'm pretty good at sticking to exercise and I'm planning on starting Sydney Cummings' summertime fine programme next week.

I'm just really, really good at eating. 🐷

CheapMustard · 04/05/2024 12:13

@GetYourHandOut well done! What do you think has helped the weight loss this week?

I’m down a bit so v happy. I think starting the day with a protein shake (Greek yog, spinach, banana +30g protein powder) is really filling me up and putting me on the right path.

I need to avoid the puddings and sweet treats that the sun, bank hol and bbq’s bring!

Keep going all!
