Right. It's a fresh start for me. I've joined Slimming World for the 5th time back in August of last year. Didn't do too badly up until Christmas but since then I've been dreadful.
Just had my weigh in tonight and had a huge weight again over two weeks - missed weigh in last week. The small amount of weight I have lost since August last year is very quickly creeping back on again and I have to do something about it now.
Tomorrow is my new start. I have my food diary at the ready.

Yay! You sound like you've given yourself the best pep talk anyway!

What are your "danger zones" - is it evenings? Having stuff in the house that you eat without thinking? Not having enough free food in the house? Maybe you could be more disciplined to fill in a food diary every day, especially in week 3 or whenever it is you normally let things go? I do exactly the same, really wish I could break the self destruction habit!

Come on, we're in this together!

toadette · 08/04/2008 11:40

Danger zones are normally evenings and weekends which are all too often 'wine time' ....and a glass or two of wine heads me off to the toaster or biscuit tin as my willpower evaporates with the ethanol.

Now is such a good time to break this, the evenings are brighter so I can go for a walk or a swim instead. I just get into such a bad habit during the winter, dcs put to bed..turn on TV, maybe light fire, pour wine...then my bum is hanging out of fridge all night as I snack, snack, snack!

I think the two best changes I could make for myself are to (i) eat more at meal times so that I don't snack (ii) have more alcohol-free nights (think there's a new drink less wine thread, how timely!).

Right, will adopt these as my strategy this week. What are your plans this week, SWlurker?

SWlurker · 08/04/2008 12:05

Oh toadette I laughed so much at that post! Definately think there is a thread in itself "drink less wine"!

I have thought ahead what I've got on this week, and we have a meal out, a leaving do (drinks) a night out in the pub and a horse show! I have seen the menu and made choices for the meal, will drive on Friday night so will only have 1 small glass of wine, save syns for saturday night in the pub and in general pat myself on the back for being so good, because I WILL have written my food diary and I WILL weigh in next tuesday with a loss!

oh, and when I eat a small meal because I am going to exercise (3 days a week) I will not automatically eat a big meal when I get back!

toadette · 08/04/2008 12:21

Good strategy, SWlurker. What's that saying.."if we fail to plan, then we plan to fail" (think someone on the Apprentice used it recently). Maybe that should be our mantra this week... or maybe just get our jaws wired so we look like this

I have had my breakfast and an early lunch. So no food now until after weigh-in. And I am going to make a SW-friendly dinner when I come home - no 'twilight' takeaway and wine for me this week, oh no...because I WILL be starting the week as I mean to go on

SWlurker · 08/04/2008 13:36

PMSL I'm all for getting our jaws wired but that doesn't solve the wine problem does it??? Slips right through between the wires

By the way, could you do a "only at weekends" rule? There are some lovely nice non alcoholic things that are still nice to relax with but have less or no syns and no excuse for ethanol related forgetfullness! especially in the hot weather (ha ha, if it ever stops snowing) - Asda do a bottle of posh fizzy grape stuff with no added sugar, thats only 2 syns a glass. Or get some posh cordial and mix with fizzy water. Just a thought.

As my last Sw leader used to say,
Go forth and Shrink!

toadette · 08/04/2008 17:06

One hour until weigh-in...anxiety level rising. Does anyone else start to feel like they did when doing their driving test/getting exam results as you get approach the SW scales? Then again, maybe it's just my guilty conscience because haven't been following the diet.

Will report back later on my weigh-in result to shame myself back into action.

toadette · 08/04/2008 17:09

Have tried on about three pairs of jeans for tonight in a desperate attempt to find out which ones weigh the least...

WallOfSilence · 08/04/2008 19:42

How'd it go Toadette?

My WI is tomorrow night.. eeek.

I know I haven't ate all my syns for this week, but I have been working late the past few days & have been eating at awkward times. I have just had a veg burger & I didn't check until after I had eaten it, there's 10.5syns in it!!!!!!!!!

sugarlumps · 08/04/2008 20:03

well after nearly 2 weeks of being ill i have lost wait for it...1lb!!!!!
1 meesley pound! whats that all about then? being bed ridden, eating miniscule portions - maybe a slice of toast a day - and i've lost a pound? someything not right there! lol
im back at work 2moro i think, i haev 6lb to go to target of 10.5stone, which i was planning to reach by easter...... hahahahaha
so 6lb - 2 weeks of serious dieting? what do you reackon? or i may just do it really slowly up until the end of august so i know i will keep it off for my holiday, think im liking that idea better!

sugarlumps · 08/04/2008 20:06

btw regarding the wine - weightwatchers do a gorgeous rose wine, and im not lying it is really really nice, the only problem is it goes down to fast lol, the white isnt so nice, but have you all tried adding soda water to it to make it into a long drink? that way you cant drink it so fast! (saves you money too) whoop whoop

toadette · 08/04/2008 20:26

At least it's 1 pound OFF, sugarlumps, I had 0.5lb ON! 'Fessed up to all my syn-ing this week and promised the leader I would aim for a 2lb weight loss this week. Had veg stirfry with rice for dinner with diet coke (NO wine). Going to head to the supermarket soon to stock up on fruit, veg, mullerlights etc. I'm going to try to stick to as much FREE food as I can this week. Has anyone tried SuccessExpress, might try it for a couple of days too (see how motivated I am because I stayed to class)!

10.5 syns, wallofsilence! But at least it's still within the daily allowance.

pippypoppypanda · 08/04/2008 20:45

Well having only stuck to fast forward for 2 days then following th food optimising plan in a saintly fashion for the rest of the week has paid off!! Lost 3lb this week am exstatic!Another 3 1/2 lbs til 2 stone. This has motivated me no end - although Im NOT giving up my twilight zone tonight no way its what keeps me going for the rest of the week!!!!!!

Bouncingturtle · 08/04/2008 20:59

Well done Pippy and Sugarlumps, toadette, 0.5lb isn't too bad, and bow you have extra motivation to stick with the plan this week.

i lost 2lb! Sent my food diaries to my consultant, I'm going to try and do the same this week, but I think I need extra HE because I should be aiming for a max 1.5lb weight loss. DS has been having manic feeding frenzies think he has been undergoing a growth spurt. If he settles down and I stick to the plan I may lose a bit less which is why don't want any extras this week.

toadette · 08/04/2008 21:04

That's fantastic, pippy, well done

What sort of things did you eat on the fastforward days? I think a couple of strict days would be good for me and then when I get back to normal plan I would enjoy it more.

Have decided to scrap the trip to supermarket as too tired so will head to bed soon.

How did you get on at your WI, SWlurker?

toadette · 08/04/2008 21:06

Xposted, BT - well done to you too

Well done on losses - Toadette, 0.5lb is nothing you will shift that and more this week!

I maintained - which I am pleased with, as I was honestly expecting a gain. Onwards and slimwards! Had a lovely syn free dinner so in a good mood ready for tomorrow.

Green lunches - Jacket potato with Baked beans, HEa cheese or HEB meat filling (syn the mayo and skip the butter)

Boots do some cracking things that are slimming world friendly. Look for their salads and pastas and check their contents list to guestimate syns, and their meal deal includes some sliced fruit or carrot sticks I think.

Sandwich shops often do homemade soups, or will make you up a salad, you get to say exactly what does or doesn't go in! Supermarkets you can buy a fresh bread roll and a tub of cottage cheese, or some (like asda) do prepared salads like potato and egg (dressing is in a sachet so you're in control) - or you could get low syn cous cous packets or a tin of HEB soup, which just need boiling water adding. Supermarkets are easy to get lunch from, so many possibilities! you could buy yoourself a food flask and then you can add hot water and make - pasta and sauces, noodles, savoury rices...

(spot the workaholic)

Haylo · 09/04/2008 09:14

Hi everyone, just found this thread, great ... off for my first SW class for 3 years !! this afternoon after having my two DC. 8 weeks to holiday, DD 8 months, still BFing but that excuse cannot go on for much longer !

Nothing fits to take on hols and starting to feel good that the weather is brighter but poo that l have nothing nice to wear that fits and refuse to buy next size up.

Can anyone tell me if l get any a or b choices extra for breast feeding ??

SWlurker · 09/04/2008 09:41

Hi Haylo welcome on board!

I'm not sure about BFing healthy extras, someone on here will probably be able to help or your consultant is the best person to ask this afternoon. Good luck!

Bouncingturtle · 09/04/2008 10:10

You should get a plan from your SW consultant, but I think they assume you stop at 6 months!
Unfortunately I have left my pack at class and can't remember exactly how it works out as it is dependent on the age of your baby.
I have 4 HE but my baby is only 15 weeks and still exbf. I think if you have weaned on to solids but are still feeding, then you should have 1 extra. But to be honest it depends on how often your baby is feeding, the best thing to do is speak to your consultant.
I confess have been cheating a bit(few more syns than I have admitted to!), and still losing weight (don't hate me!) so have spoken to my consultant and said that if I get 2lb or more weight loss this week I'll have an additional healthy extra or maybe a few extra syns as I'm supposed to keep my weight loss to 1.5lb per week.
I do the whole WI twilight zone pig out as well! I'm thinking of taking up SW's suggestion and actually trying to be good then I'll know what I can actually have.

Bouncingturtle · 09/04/2008 10:11

Sorry that should be 4HE + normal allocation so 8 in total, I split it as 3 HeA and 5 HeBs.

WallOfSilence · 09/04/2008 10:25

Well done on all the losses!!

I have a half day from work today, not in until 2pm so I have had a nice late breakfast/early lunch of 2 boiled eggs & a bowl of pineapple.

Have my WI tonight at 5.45.

I like a treat after class though, so will have a bar of topic or something tasty

Yestrday at work I took in my scan brans & some laughing cow light triangles, packed a box with chopped up fruit & it was lovely!!

Also drank lots of water yesterday.

What sort of clothes do you wear to weigh-in?
I usually wore legging things I wear to the gym & a t-shirt, but now as I go straight from work I always try to wear a light pair of trousers & some kind of light top.... so as I don't weigh too heavy on the scales!!

toadette · 09/04/2008 12:47

Is anyone about? I'm just about to make a tomato and mozzarella salad for lunch. I've bought Sainsbury's lower fat mozzarella which is half the fat of their normal range. Am I still only allowed 42g of this as a HE or can I have a bit more seeing as it's lower fat?

WoS, I normally wear jeans and a t-shirt and take off my shoes/boots before weigh-in. The lady who was weighing me last night asked if I wore jeans to most of weigh-ins as they add on 2lbs

SWlurker · 09/04/2008 12:50

Sorry toadette not sure. Why don't you put the dish through syns online? pword is blackberry.

I now have a work uniform so at least my clothes are the same for weigh ins each week! It always used to be a competition with my friend to find the lightest looking clothes, although I didn't weigh them like she did!

Got my happy face on because I have found vecon again - vegetable stock, so I don't have pesky odd syns from the stock cubes I usually use. Small steps!

toadette · 09/04/2008 13:08

Thanks SWlurker, checked online and the syns for fullfat are 3.5 per 28g and 2.5 for reduced fat. Not sure how much more i may be allowed so have kept to 42g to be on safe side (soooo trying to be good!).

We talked about doing things differently last night so that we don't get bored with the diet and cheat. I am having a red day today as I normally do green. Having some prawns with my salad for lunch. Making the surf and turf recipe from recent magazine tonight - steak and prawns with stir-fried pak choi tonight. Going to try to keep the bread to a minimum this week, I find it hard just to stop at one slice of toast so might be better to avoid it all together.
