Anyone else doing OMAD?

I’ve always been an ‘all or nothing’ type of person. I’ve also always been overweight and at almost 47 with a couple of health wake-ups going on this HAS to be it this time. So I’m doing OMAD (one meal a day). Basically fasting most of the day and eating a decent and well-balanced made from scratch meal each evening. I started on 8th Jan and have lost a decent amount so far. I’m not hungry at all during the day which I find quite odd but won’t complain!

Would be good to share some meal plans etc if there are others in the same boat!

hello everyone! I'd like to consider doing OMAD can I join please? Or something close to it? I have about 3 stone to lose, although I might focus on one stone to start with. I'll prob start tomorrow.

Ozanj · 14/03/2024 10:59

OMAD is what many Indian people do and it doesn’t reduce our risk of cardiac diseases. In fact in many cases it can cause people to miss or confuse heart attacks because eating OMAD often leads to gas and heartburn if you aren’t eating it early and so many people dismiss these types of pain when they’re having heart attacks!

I would personally have 2 or 3 smaller meals in a restricted eating window: eg 11-5.

Michs72 · 14/03/2024 11:24

@CuriousityKilledThePussy definitely don’t feel like you’re being ignored. I only look at this thread every couple of days so it’s very easy now it’s getting a bigger following to miss people’s posts.

There are certainly posts I probably haven’t read but the ones I do give me the encouragement to keep at it. I’m only in my second week and enjoying it so far. I’m also giving myself a sweet treat after dinner like a Kit Kat for example as I know if I don’t at some point I will binge and then lose it completely.

Stay with us @CuriousityKilledThePussy you may just read something that helps you on your journey xx

How is everyone feeling going into the weekend?

Dh is knocking up a big daal for us for the next couple of days, so we are going to have that with some roasted veg (random, I know!) Saturday and Sunday, with kefir yogurt and nuts.

I finally saw 12st 7lb on the scales this morning! I haven’t been that weight since my midwife booking appointment with dd. she’s 10 in a couple of weeks 🤣

I tend to eat around 10/11am. It works out better for me that way. I’ve never been hungry in the evenings, it’s always been in the AM for me.

I don’t tend to get heartburn or indigestion anymore since eating a clean diet. I was plagued with it when I drank alcohol and ate sugar.

loveyouradvice · 16/03/2024 09:27

Great question @bahhamburgers ... for me, this weekend looks great. Only socialising is theatre and walking, not around food, so I can luxuriate in my favourite 2-3h OMADs starting whatever time I fancy - usually around 11 at the mo.

Next weekend is going to be the challenge!! Supper with friends on Thurs and then 3 days staying with friends.... Help!!! Dont want to undo all the good work, especially now I'm just 7lb off goal weight. I think I need to embrace it as a big challenge, plan each day, talk to myself throughout and reflect as I go... sounds so grown-up and so not me...

Socialising is a hard one.

Luckily I don’t have many friends 🤣

But this is another time when being coeliac comes in handy. I can’t eat out anywhere really as no where can promise total non contamination (I get really sick from the slightest bit), so everyone knows I just don’t join in eating, I am quite happy sitting there with a lemonade while everyone else digs in to food.

If I stay with anyone, I take my own food so I’m not a pain in the arse with what I can eat/cross contamination etc so it makes it a lot easier for me.

Joder · 18/03/2024 19:27

Hi everyone, mind if I join in too?
Ive been reading so much about OMAD and I seriously thought I would never be able to do it as food (especially all the wrong types!) is my love 😍
Im a big wine drinker and blame a lot of my weight gain on that!
So, since quitting booze 5 days ago, I decided to go all out and really try to shift my excess 2 stone weight gain!
Today is my day 1 and I’m honestly surprised how bareable it is. I didn’t have my meal until 5pm, after LOADS of water, and while I would sell my granny for some chocolate right now, I’m not actually hungry.
Well done everyone on the amazing weight loss.
Hopefully my first week will be successful, I’ll be really happy with a 2 pound weight loss 🤞🤞

ChipsAreLife · 05/03/2024 20:07

Wow @Headtothestreets that's incredible! Well done. Have you kept it off?

So far.... I'm always going to have to be careful though, I think.

HelenHywater · 19/03/2024 11:31

Hello @Joder ! I find it relatively easy. I get hunger pangs around my normal eating times but can move on from them.

I've just done week 2 and am 2.6kg lighter than my starting weight, which I'm really pleased about (I wanted to lose around 6 kg in total) . I have realised (from weighing myself every day) that I lose more if I do some exercise each day and if I walk more. I also have realised I probably need to eat my evening meal a bit earlier - I find it hard come 5pm and waiting until 7pm to eat with the family is really tough. I am generally sticking to protein and veg as this is more filling. I'm tracking my calories and macros and am generally having around 6-800 cals a day with the vast majority being protein. (I have a large evening meal!).

A good side effect for me is that I've had far fewer IBS issues.

HelenHywater · 20/03/2024 07:57

I measured myself today and have lost 6cm round my waist and 7 cm off my belly in two weeks! It's so motivating to see this (I found yesterday hard!). My bum is proving quite resistant.....

Wow! That’s amazing!!

People keep commenting over the last month on how much “weight” I’ve lost. Three separate people who see me weekly/bi weekly have said I get smaller every time I see them.

Thing is, I have only lost 1lb in weight over the last 6 weeks.

But I have got smaller. A size 12 coat that wouldn’t do up 6 weeks ago now fits perfectly.

It’s just really annoying because my BMI is 30.2 🤣 I really want to be just overweight and not obese. I know it’s meaninglessness, it’s just irrationally posing me off!

HelenHywater · 20/03/2024 15:08

Have you measured yourself as well @bahhamburgers ? The scales on their own can be misleading, I've found. (and clearly they are in your case if other people are saying you've lost weight).

No, I can never be arsed 😂

But clothes are fitting much better and I can see it in the mirror too.

I seem to be changing shape from the top down. So the last month my neck and shoulders are a lot bonier. It’s weird.

I wish my bum had resisted a bit more, tbh! Having a bum can look really good and it's the fashion these days. Mine was sacrificed in the name of losing weight for health reasons, gone but not forgotten 😭

SlimJimmin · 20/03/2024 18:01

Evening everyone! Sorry I went awol again-I’m rubbish at keeping up with threads! 🙈 Lovely to see so many of you here though and giving OMAD a go! Just a quick update from me. It’s still going really well. Since starting at 16 stone 2.25 on 8th Jan, I’m now 13 stone 7, so 3.75lbs off a 3 stone loss. I’m over the moon and hoping to see the results on my next diabetes check. People are noticing daily and commenting, not always on the weight but on how nice I look, on my clothes, my hair and one child (I’m a teacher) told me my eyebrows looked nice today! 😆 It’s lovely to get the compliments and even better to know I’m making a difference to my health.

keep going everyone-we can do this!

@SlimJimmin that is absolutely fantastic, well done!

AstralSpace · 20/03/2024 20:16

@SlimJimmin that's so inspiring! Well done. What a fab outcome.
I've been rubbish at posting as well but I've been doing omad for a few days. It was tough at first but easier now. I eat one meal at 6pm and that's it. Black coffee and water for the rest of the day.
My goal is to look good in my clothes as we emerge out of winter and baggy jumper and big coats and into lighter clothes.

SlimJimmin · 24/03/2024 13:40

Thank You @bahhamburgers! Show are you getting on?

Thank you @AstralSpace! Yes, clothes fitting better is definitely such a motivation! How have you been getting on? Have you seen a loss yet?

Well I’ve done it- 3 stone down exactly today! I’ve lost it quickly I know (just under 11 weeks to be precise), and do have some loose skin, but getting the weight off was more important for my health and I think I would have had loose skin anyway after being overweight for so long. I actually went shopping yesterday and found a dress I bought for myself last February for my birthday in the sale for £6 and bought it, in 3 sizes smaller! 😳

I plan to keep going (I’m still ‘obese’ after all), but I think I’ll do one more stone, which will take me to mid ‘overweight’ and see. I don’t want to be too slim as I feel my face will sag badly at my age.

Will keep you all posted. Keep on keeping on everyone! 👍🏻

well done @SlimJimmin ! that's brilliant and so inspiring!

I'm 4.9kg down in 3 weeks (just under) so am really pleased too. Would be happy with another 3 but would love 5. I realised that in the first week I was eating way too much in my one meal - like 8 or 900 calories worth, and have stopped that now.

I have a big Easter weekend coming up, so maybe it will slow a bit this week.

I've stayed clear of alcohol this week (accidentally because I haven't gone out, and don't drink at home) and feel much better for it. Have also apparently eliminated my sugar/sweet tooth thing and have minimal IBS symptoms. I read that the best diet for you is the one that fits around your life the easiest, and this is definitely the case for me!

CalmConfident · 24/03/2024 16:33

I need a kick start…I was planning IF 16:8 but might try a few days of OMAD and see how I go.

AstralSpace · 24/03/2024 17:28

@SlimJimmin buying a size 3 sizes smaller must amazing. I'm trying to go down 2.
I feel a bit slimmer and dh says I've lost weight (he didn't even know I was even trying!) but the scales haven't moved down at all. They did fluctuate a couple of lbs so this is really annoying.
I'll keep going as it's not too difficult and I feel like I'm more energetic.

HelenHywater · 24/03/2024 19:37

Hello @CalmConfident I find OMAD easier than 16:8 or similar. I find it hard to stick to small meals and once I've started eating, it's like I've woken up my stomach and can't stop! Give it a go, you might be surprised.

I might stick with it when I get to my goal weight - I am finding there are so many benefits of fasting.

@AstralSpace I measured myself too - to give myself some encouragement (hopefully) when the scales don't move!

ChipsAreLife · 25/03/2024 12:08

Hello all! Sorry I fell of the thread for a while. I've had a really intense few weeks.

Well done @SlimJimmin that is outstanding work!! So happy for you.

I've been doing more 16:8 the last week as had three work lunches and pre period hunger got me!

Back on omad today! 8 weeks tomorrow till holiday and want to get a stone off. I'm feeling really hungry but I know if I push through today tomorrow will be so much easier!!!

Good luck to everyone this week

waistchallenge · 25/03/2024 13:43

I'm back on 20/4 but not losing much this time, probably because I'm close to my ideal weight and it's more about getting down a clothes size (I'm between sizes and it's awkward). I guess I'll have to calorie count for a bit. I'm not in the mood as I'd reached a kind of equilibrium where I was eating well and not having to pay too much attention to things.

What's weird is that the hunger during the fast is there but doesn't result in weight loss at this point, v.s. it always resulting in weight loss previously.
