Anyone else doing OMAD?

I’ve always been an ‘all or nothing’ type of person. I’ve also always been overweight and at almost 47 with a couple of health wake-ups going on this HAS to be it this time. So I’m doing OMAD (one meal a day). Basically fasting most of the day and eating a decent and well-balanced made from scratch meal each evening. I started on 8th Jan and have lost a decent amount so far. I’m not hungry at all during the day which I find quite odd but won’t complain!

Would be good to share some meal plans etc if there are others in the same boat!

Hi there,

I do mostly OMAD. Sometimes shake it up and eat twice a day, but it’s mostly just once.

I’ve lost ten stone over 4 years (had a break for pregnancy, although I suffer from HG In pregnancy so don’t gain an ounce, I am too sick throughout!)

I mainly do low carb. Although there have been periods where I do eat lentils and potatoes. I don’t eat anything processed at all.

SlimJimmin · 26/01/2024 20:12

Hi,
Wow, that’s amazing! What a great achievement! I’m doing basically exactly the same as you. Cooking from scratch every day, low carbs, one meal in the evening. I’ve lost about 17lbs so far since 8th Jan. it came off quickly at first but has slowed down now like it does. I have another 3 stone or so to go (will still be over a stone overweight then but think it might be where I need to be for my face not to sag too much etc!

It’s really encouraging to know how well it’s been working for you!

17lb is amazing!

yes, it does slow down. But it makes me feel great, so it’s all worth it.

I’m 44 in a few weeks, I had a massive health wake up call too. It’s amazing how it focuses your mind.

I tend to eat mid morning as I’ve never been hungry in the eves. I’m at home with my toddler at the moment, so it’s easy for me to cook/eat at that time.

I’ve got 2 stone, 10lb to go.

I feel like we’re (almost) twins! It’s my birthday in a few weeks too but I’m 3 years older than you. I’m also mid health scare right now (literally had results through today!) and I’ve seen it coming for a while to be honest but now feel it’s definitely a NEED to get the weight off rather than just a want now. 2 stone 10lbs would be amazing for me too. Would you be up for keeping this thread going to check in at all? I’m rubbish and weigh every day but would like a weekly check in maybe? How much are you tending to lose each week now?

waistchallenge · 27/01/2024 11:59

When I'm trying to lose I do 20/4 fasting which is close but slightly more lenient. I mix it up with a couple of days 18/6 or 19/5 and one rest day per week (but still calorie controlled, not a day off completely). I found this worked best for me, I found 20/4 every single day a bit too challenging and also I found changing the fasting schedule stopped my body getting used to 20/4.

You could see if 20/4 works for you?

bahhamburgers · 27/01/2024 12:51

@SlimJimmin yes of course!

I stated at 23 stone. I have a thread on this board called “I am 9 ish stone down today where I added a couple of photos a few weeks ago of progress.

I want to get back to 10 stone, currently 12.10. however, I have always been a lot heavier than I look. The last tome
I was 10 stone, I was 34 and a size 8. I actually think I might look a bit gaunt at that weight now that I am older.

bahhamburgers · 27/01/2024 12:54

Oh and it varies. I’ve been the same weight for a whole
month before. Then I will lose 1lb. the. Another few weeks no loss. then I will lose 3lb. Sometimes I will lose 2lb a week. all by eating pretty much the same things everyday and having the same activity level! It’s so random, but I have always lost weight quite slowly (can put it on extraordinarily fast though!)

HollyKnight · 27/01/2024 13:00

I do OMAD/intermittent fasting. I find as soon as I eat I get ravenous so it works best for me to eat at night then go to bed. If I ate breakfast, I would just be fighting off the hunger all day (and failing).

Headtothestreets · 31/01/2024 17:56

I lost 5 stone last year doing OMAD. I find it easier to eat around 6pm as if I eat earlier, I'm more likely to want to keep on eating. My meals are chicken or salmon, plus lots of veg. Then 2 Options hot chocolates to give me the feeling of something sweet. I do have the occasional lunch out, or different meal but OMAD is the framework of how I eat. There is a lady on YouTube who does OMAD, and is interesting. Her channel is '6 miles to supper'.

waistchallenge · 31/01/2024 18:04

I also eat in the evening because it allows me to still go out for a meal, and a few other practical reasons. So that's a few of us.

SlimJimmin · 03/02/2024 07:56

Morning! Lovely to see more of you here! Yes, I eat in the evening too. I think whenever I ate, I would be hungry afterwards so leaving it u til 7ish means I pretty much cook, eat, watch a bit of tv, have my one cup of tea with milk (herbal tea the rest of the day) and then bed, so no time to get hungry again.

I’m pleased to say I’m 1.5 stones down this morning using this method! 🥳 I started 8th Jan and lost the first stone within a couple of weeks and then another half over the last couple of weeks. I seem to be averaging 3.5-4lbs per week which is great. Just need to keep going, for my health more than anything. I expect I’ll be diagnosed as type 2 diabetic at my upcoming appointments and I hope I can still do OMAD and not play havoc with my blood sugars as it’s really working for me!! 🤞

Hope you’re all doing well?

That’s amazing! Fantastic work.

My son managed to break the bloody scales by dropping them on a tiled floor (they were glass ones), so off out to buy a new pair today. I am waiting to weigh myself until my birthday on the 17th.

I set myself a goal of 12 st 5 lb for my 44th birthday (how am I 44 😭🤣), so fingers crossed.

bahhamburgers · 03/02/2024 08:35

Oh man. I wish I could lose 2lb a week! My weight loss is so slow sometimes.

@bahhamburgers congratulations on the amazing weight loss

Im currently 10.2 stone and a size 12/14. Everyone seems to carry weight so differently but I suppose it's bone structure!

I'm on 2 small meals (8 hour diet) and aiming to get back to 9.5 just so I can get back into a 12 comfortably Smile

Thanks so much! Your loss is truly inspirational though. Wow. I’m currently 14 stone 9, down from 16 stone 2 on January 8th. I did get up to 17 stone 10 at one point though. I’d like to be under 14 and a half for my birthday break away from 14th - 17th Feb. (Told you we were twins! I’m 3 years older though…🙈😂)

Oh don’t get me started! I am always heavier that I look!

I am 12st 10lb the (last time I weighted myself), 5’4” and currently a size 12.

I have a friend who is the same height as me, weighs 12st 7lb and is a size 18. We look totally different.

She made me weigh myself in front of her the other day, she wouldn’t believe I weighed more than her!

Hello! Can I join you?

I'm 35, 3 young kids and fed up of being fat 😂 I did slimming world last year, lost 2.5 stone, stopped going and put it all back on! I want to fit on the swings at the park, go swimming without having a panic attack...and do you know what, just feel nicer! I struggle so much with calorie counting, s/w or any other diet tbh, and I think omad will simplify things for me. I want to sit and eat an evening meal with the family. I'm a typical grazer, once I start eating I just don't really stop and will pick at things all day. I'm hoping that sticking to one meal of what I want (within reason, we have pretty standard balanced family meals) and not having to track calories/subs/points will take some of the stress out of it....will also not be giving up my beloved coffee 😂
I need to lose 4 stone realistically, 5 ideally.
Thank you for reading my brain melt 😂

bahhamburgers · 04/02/2024 23:24

Hi @Vjjeiknmiw6377 it can be hard to begin with, but after the first week or so, your body gets used to the new routine.

ChipsAreLife · 05/02/2024 08:23

Hi!

I just started doing OMAD last week after a few weeks of 16:8 and it's been going well. Have lost 10lbs the last few weeks with no exercise and was feeling so motivated!

However, I'm pre menstrual now and absolutely starving. The hunger is constant and not in waves. Been reading up and they suggest women don't fast the week before their period as it can mess with hormones. Just wondered if anyone else stops for a few days till that pre period hunger goes?

I would love to lose another 2 stone before end of May as have a holiday. It may be ambitious but I find omad relatively easy and it works! Just not during this week!

Yes, I have heard the same.

Although, I do OMAD month round. I don’t see any negative effects from doing it, we are all different though. what works well for some women might not work so well for others. I think it’s a lot of trail and error.

For me, since OMAD my periods have been regular as clockwork. They starred to go a bit off at 40, I was told by everyone it was perimenopause (also the brain fog, feeling shit). it was actually all the crap food and wine I was ingesting constantly. I kept being offered HRT, but I knew deep down, it was a terrible diet and lifestyle and being 23 stone that was making me feel terrible all the time. It was interesting that no dr mentioned that - they were just pushing me to go on medication instead which I knew I didn’t need.

I am 44 now and no symptoms at all, I feel wonderful and my periods have been regular as clockwork since I chanced my diet 3 years ago and started mainly OMAD.

Sorry, bit of a tangent there! It just makes me so angry that I could be sat here now, needlessly on medication, still overweight and eating and drinking crap and blaming everything on hormones and perimenopause when it was lifestyle and weight causing the issues.

ChipsAreLife · 12/02/2024 19:33

@bahhamburgers sorry do my delay. The house got struck down with illness last week!

Not at all! I totally agree that food and drink has a huge impact on how we feel. I don't really drink much anymore as it makes me feel awful the next day and it really affects my sleep. I think it's amazing you've improved your health without medicine. How long have you been doing omad?

Interesting re periods. I'm 39 and mine are very heavy and regular. I did fast last week but was more 16:8 and didn't do omad. I am back on that today and will keep going until next period. Although I may not do omad 7 days a week maybe more like 5 as I read it's good to change it up a bit for your body.

I'm away 3rd week of May and have 21lbs to lose so set myself that ambitious target!

Starting running again yesterday after an injury and hoping to do Caroline girovan a few times a week too!

bahhamburgers · 13/02/2024 07:50

3 years, on and off. and by off I mean I switch it up sometimes too, have 2 meals a day instead, or sometimes I have a break from food for a while and do a juice fast for a week or so.

SlimJimmin · 27/02/2024 17:32

Hi again all! Sorry for going awol! I’ve had a busy February with health stuff and my birthday and so fell off the wagon a couple of times. In general I’m back on it though and think I’m on track for 2 stone loss in 2 months. I have until 8th March to shift another 2.75lbs to hit the target so fingers crossed. I need to do this for my health.

How’s everyone else doing?
