Need to lose 1 stone? Gather around....

Not sure if this will get any clicks, but I wondered if there are folks who need to lose about a stone or a bit this way or that who might want some accountability?

BTW When I say "need to lose a stone" this means basically a stone to get to your own, individual target (which could be a random number, a random BMI point, just anything).

For me - 1 stone off takes me to weight before conceiving Baby 1, and 1.2 stone off takes me to my lightest adult weight and a very comfy size 10-12 as opposed to a size 12-14. I have added motivation that a 40th birthday tails off 2024 for me, so I've got a deadline.

My downfall? Carbs. Salty carbs. My body absolutely magically loses if I cut out rice, pasta and potatoes. And yet, alas - it specifically is those that I crave.

Anyone want a loose accountability thread?

Good idea to take it a day at a time, yes I think. I’ve never had accountability so I am quite excited at the prospect of writing it here. And yes telling myself forvee/ever/cut out forever type rules tend to backfire !

Starting Weight: 67.3 kg/ 10st8lbs
Goal weight: 62 kg/ 9st10lbs

Marking my starting point. I weigh and record my weight every morning but will probably update once a week.

Friday night we cook with the kids so I'll have a yogurt and fruit for lunch and wait to eat dinner with the family.

TheMotherSide · 19/01/2024 00:43

A stone would be fantastic. I've fallen off the wagon a bit since November due to workload and stress, and find it's time to roll up my sleeves and get back on the case.
It'll be nice to have some accountability.
I downloaded the NHS weightloss app tonight, but was disappointed to find that it doesn't recognise many foods for calorie counting. I'll stick to MyFitnessPal. But I know what I need to do, really.
My 'one thing' for now, as suggested by OP, is going to be the foolproof, easy win of cutting out rice, baked goods and pasta. Like you, this will pretty much fix it.

I reaaally need this! I can’t sleep and just had 2 x pitta and aioli argh help! I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been, put on 3 stone after having kids and it’s time to get it off.

Philippa7 · 19/01/2024 01:57

Please can I join? I’m 10.4 (5ft3 ish) and just into an ‘unhealthy’ BMI which I actually agree with as I’m carrying far more weight around my belly since having DC. Also an evening and late afternoon binge eater. I find brushing my teeth early, soon after dinner, helps but I’m so greedy I sometimes don’t mind brushing them three times a day!

PS Just needed to edit as I remembered I’m actually two pound heavier than I originally wrote! 😆

FiveShelties · 19/01/2024 02:51

Can I join too please. I started on 2nd January at 10st 13, had a fantastic first week and lost 6.6 pounds. Then I managed to regain 3 pounds by 16th January so stupid.

My downfall is wine, often followed with crisps, or cheese and biscuits! Always in the evening as well.

SW 2nd January 10 13.0
CW 15th January 10 9.4
TW 9 stone 13 pounds.

I just want to get under 10st and stay there, instead of going up and down the scales like an idiot. Am so cross with myself and even crosser that I cannot blame anyone else.😂

I do the early tooth brushing thing too. 😂😂😂 and unfortunately I am more greedy than I am lazy....

Can I join please? 5ft 8 and currently about 12 st 4 (am on holiday without scales so cannot check if the birthday cake I've been scoffing has been balanced out by all the bike riding and swimming I've been doing this week). I was slim my whole life (10 stone as an adult) until 8 years ago when depression, sugar and booze sent me up to 15 stone. I'd like to see how I feel at 11 stone.

I've totally quit alcohol, taken up couch 2 5k and home workouts. I'm going to use MFP to calorie count, eat 3 meals a day, no snacks, limit carbs (I'm vegetarian so tricky) and keep on with the exercise. I've also treated myself to one of those giant Stanley mugs to encourage me to drink more water.

SW 15 stone
Cw 12 stone 4
GW 11 stone

Morning everyone 😁

Day one proper of my more mindful eating plan. Just about to take dogs out for a walk, then will think about how hungry I am and what to have for breakfast.

Good luck to everyone with their weight loss day today!

froidIci · 19/01/2024 08:24

Welcome everyone!

Well done on those hitting their mini/simple goals. I did day 2 of no evening snacking. Bring on day 3 today. Let’s see what happens.

Remember the cold snap possibly makes us reach for more comfort via chocs cheese pasta cake whatever …..

Are you finding it easy Froid? My friend said she stopped eating in the evenings by learning to knit. She used to always think ' I'll have a cuppa and cake at the end of this row'. Then would forget🙂

Newnamesameoldlurker · 19/01/2024 09:48

Hello everyone, I would like to join but I'm hesitant as I joined a 'lose a stone before Christmas' thread and started off strong, but then hugely fell off the wagon and stopped posting on the thread and felt shame and failure! So I hope the same doesn't happen again. 😕 I still need to lose that bloody stone! Same situation as many of you- gained weight after kids, evening snacking my downfall, want to get back under 11stone (I'm 5ft 9)

I am finding that posting on here/having someone to speak to (even if it is largely me to myself!) is helping stay focused on 1 evening at a time. I was at a crochet class last evening as I am trying to learn how to crochet which may also help!

Hello, I would like to join too please!

My story... I gained weight after kids and then the lockdowns were brutal. I went from my normal size 12 to almost 16. I took drastic action three years ago and lost 3 stone and went to a size 10 and felt fabulous! I did well at maintaining it for a couple of years but in the past 6 months my weight has crept back up and I've put on a stone.

I would love to lose that stone again and recapture the 'fabulous' feeling! I feel cross with myself for undoing some of my hard work and I almost feel a bit of shame that I haven't managed to maintain my weight-loss.

I know that success will be driven by a positive mindset for me. But I'm struggling with that at the moment because I feel down because I'm heavier and because it is cold and because it is January - the most miserable time of the year! However, I joined a gym this week and had a work out yesterday which has given my positivity a boost. And I'm hoping that this thread will give me some accountability and company!

froidIci · 19/01/2024 11:56

Welcome!

My goals for today -

  1. No rice-pasta-potatoes
  2. No snacking after dinner is finished
  3. Consciously drinking lots of water. I finish my 2 litre mega-bottle everyday anyway, but still....

Tomorrow is DD's 4th birthday party, in laws also over for lunch and it is another day. Will be hard to resist a slice of birthday cake (especially if said mahoosive cake gets to come home with our own DC even after generous slicing off to parents and kids) - but we shall cross tomorrow's bridge when we get to it.

Hi all. I’ve got the Friday feels today which naturally means that dinner must be followed with a dessert. I’m trying to break this habit that weekend dinners all end in a rich dessert.

Anyway, I decided to hop on the scales today despite only weighing yesterday and I’ve lost a bit of water weight apparently so this has definitely contributed to the dessert craving. 🙄 So my lesson learned today is this: Only weigh every Monday. Monday personally works for me as it prevents a weekend blow out. If I weighed on a Friday and got a good result I’d have a good time on the weekend gaining the weight I lost! Some prefer less frequently and of course some don’t weigh at all and their fitted work clothes tells them when they've gained a few pounds but a weekly weigh in works for me. I wear a lot of floaty dresses which cover my thighs so I can’t really tell by clothes.

Good luck all.

Can I join?

I've been dieting since January 2nd and am now in pre period hell where all I want is carbs and to eat.

I was doing super well at fasting and eating 800 cals a day, had lost 5lb but period weight has seen me gain that back, and whilst I know it's probably temporary....it sucks and is making it hard to keep on track tbh.

I was 10.7 and look and feel good at 9.-9.5.

I have a target date of 01.05 as we're on holiday on the the third!

Do you do 800 calories every day or just set days and how many calories do you allow yourself on the other day? I did the best I ever have with IF as I went below 9st for the first time in my adult life but it does not seem to work now!!

I am on week 2 of 1200 a day and have lost 2lbs overall. Not a lot but want it as a 6 month plan until summer holidays in July.

Just checking in for the evening. Have been ravenous today, but have stuck to goals. 730 pm now, evening has started! Herbal tea ready and all I need to do really is nothing … just nothing except sip herbal tea watch telly and chill. No evening snacking Day 3 hope I can make it!

You’re doing great @froidIci I’m struggling as feel as though I’ve been “good” for ages and have nothing to show for it. Really I’ve been inconsistent and only started after Christmas so stupid to expect any impact already.
im a frustrated skinny person. Was thin without any effort until I turned 33. Then two kids and suddenly I’m tubby. I feel as though I’ve lost part of my identity and I want it back!
trying to only have dark chocolate in as a treat. My husband (who could do to lose a few stone) is utterly clueless and always buying “treats”. Tonight ice creams with meringue appeared at 7.30 as a “special treat for the kids but mine was also played up and presented to me with puppy dog eyes! I know it’s me doing the actual eating but it’s driving me a bit nutty all the same.

froidIci · 19/01/2024 21:08

Ah @Onekidnoclue its SO hard if tempting things are in front of us. For me it’s chips that does it…

DD birthday party tomorrow and there’s a huge cake staring at me……

@JustFrustrated I am also doing the Fast800...found it really easy before Christmas but gained again over Christmas week and now finding it tricky to budge

Can I join? I am 5’8 and early 40s. Did well till lockdown and went from 11 stone to my current 13 stone through doing way too much baking. These weights look worse than they do in kg which is what I am used to…!
my biggest issue is the snacking between coming home and dinner, plus reaching for dessert. Tonight I had a small pack of rice cakes.
I think half a stone off by the first week of March will help spur me on. Am trying to get to the gym 3 times a week and need to get onto IF - it worked well last time

Can I join? I want to lose 12 pounds. I'm 5ft4 and disabled, wfh and don't move much so it has mainly got to be diet.

Currently 9st 12 so want to get to 9.

BrunhildefromDusseldorf · 20/01/2024 07:41

Well I'm back from holiday and braved the scales and my weight had gone up to 12 stone 7 from 12 stone 4! Arrghh. This is despite the endless cycling, swimming etc (yes it was centre Parcs!). I guess you can't exercise out of a bad diet. Didn't think I'd overdone it that badly as no alcohol a day only indulgence was too much birthday cake. Need to turn this around asap.

Off to Parkrun now and will try to stick to 1200 calories . Hmphh
