Need to lose 1 stone? Gather around....

Not sure if this will get any clicks, but I wondered if there are folks who need to lose about a stone or a bit this way or that who might want some accountability?

BTW When I say "need to lose a stone" this means basically a stone to get to your own, individual target (which could be a random number, a random BMI point, just anything).

For me - 1 stone off takes me to weight before conceiving Baby 1, and 1.2 stone off takes me to my lightest adult weight and a very comfy size 10-12 as opposed to a size 12-14. I have added motivation that a 40th birthday tails off 2024 for me, so I've got a deadline.

My downfall? Carbs. Salty carbs. My body absolutely magically loses if I cut out rice, pasta and potatoes. And yet, alas - it specifically is those that I crave.

Anyone want a loose accountability thread?

I'm back where I started. Again :( My knee is playing up again, so can't really exercise apart from walking the dog which is more of a stroll than cardio. And my partner keeps filling the fridge with chocolate!

My plan is to at least get back to 11 stone this week. Started around 11 stone 2 and am up to 11 stone 3!

CocktailQueenie · 22/04/2024 04:32

Have gone off the wagon with alcohol but have lost 2lb. Having health issues so attribute it to worry but have stiĺl been eating 80% fresh veg/ fruit/nuts and good stuff. I agree about being sustainable and being a lifestyle change rather that dieting and feel optimistic about sticking to it. Well done to everyone!

Scottishskifun · 22/04/2024 08:07

@TheDogdidGood sorry your knee is sore. If it helps I can't exercise either it does mean that I have to be careful on calories and aim for 1200 but I find having a low calorie veg soup or salad for lunch means I have normal dinners and I dont feel restricted (I dont have bread anyway due to being gluten free). I also intermittent fast for a medical condition but find it to be a good combo. The intermittent fasting stops me snacking in the evenings as later I stop eating the later it is the next day.

@CocktailQueenie that's a great loss! Yes I'm on the slow and steady. Sometimes it does feel very slow especially around my cycle times but I looked back and have lost 10lb since joining this thread in February and 35lb since November so it's definitely a approach which is working for me.

lisam78 · 22/04/2024 19:24

Another 1lb off for me too when i weighed on Saturday - 10st 3lbs! Delighted. I did go out Saturday night, and had some prosecco and crisps- not much, but still. I'll weigh tomorrow as I always feel my body holds water after crisps and alcohol. I should just give it up, but that's another thread!

TheDogdidGood · 23/04/2024 21:37

Thanks @Scottishskifun I've just started a new job. It's only a few days a week but they are long days and nobody seems to bother with official coffee breaks so I think I'll use those days as intermittent fasting days as there's barely enough time to eat anyway!

I also try to stay gluten free as I have a low level wheat intolerance. I can get away with eating bread or wraps occasionally and just get a bit tired and very bloated. Its difficult where we live though as very rural so if we're driving somewhere and we stop to eat there often isn't gluten free options so I end up having a salad wrap. Our supermarket stocks the best chickpea pasta though :)

TheDogdidGood · 29/04/2024 21:13

OK. I'm back in the game :)

I've managed to lose all the weight I put back on, so attempt no 39...

SW 11 st 2.4lbs - Feb 12 24
CW 10st 12.8
Loss 3.6lbs

I regressed and went up to 12 stone 5 at one point. Current weight was my last lowest 'low' so anything from now on is progress! Intermittent fasting does seem to be the way to go!

Scottishskifun · 30/04/2024 09:14

@TheDogdidGood fab loss and well done on getting back into it!

redavocado · 30/04/2024 09:52

It's very slowly coming off but I really need to sort out my diet. I've broken into the 11s but I'm still eating too much sugar. I think I need more protein at mealtimes to stop the snacking.

Scottishskifun · 30/04/2024 10:43

I weighed on Friday and was 10 stone 2lb so another 1lb down. Was due to weigh again today but massively bloated from ovulation due and I know it doesn't go well for me if I then get disheartened. Regardless of my logic side telling me it's ovulation water retention!

@redavocado well done! I find having quorn pieces in the freezer is a easy protein option as you can cook in the microwave in 1 minute or so! I often add them to soups or salads for quick protein boost and its about 100 calories for a portion.

Swearwolf · 30/04/2024 11:57

Good to see you all back! I finally weighed in last week - my extended wagon-fall, followed by a couple of weeks of renewed dieting, has left me just 0.4kg up on where I last weighed. I am back on track. Still eating and drinking slightly too much but doing much better, and I'm back into my exercise routine properly.

Plan to weigh next week and see, I'm feeling positive though.

shearwater2 · 30/04/2024 12:13

I've been lurching between 12st 3lbs and 12st 7lbs for months and don't seem to be able to get below that and make it into the 11s.

Thanks! And thank you for the protein tip. We actually have some of those Quorn nuggets lurking in the freezer so I'll dig those out!

Swearwolf · 30/04/2024 13:55

I do have a new mini goal: I am now 2kg above the healthy BMI bracket, and I'd like to lose those by the end of May.

shearwater2 · 30/04/2024 14:44

Has anyone had success from ignoring macros and just focusing on calories?

I just don't think high protein and fibre and low(er) carbs works for me and the traditional low fat low calorie works better and I actually feel more satisfied eating that way. I can eat most protein sources until they come out of my ears and end up eating too many calories worrying about how much fibre and protein I've having, and still feel hungry. I think the optimal nutrition approach is very good for maintaining - including maintaining muscle tone, but not losing weight, for me, anyway. Obviously I'll just see how I feel but if I can stick to 1500 calories and feel ok, and lose that final stone then I'll go with it. Then I would gradually increase protein again once I'm maintaining.

Scottishskifun · 30/04/2024 17:20

@shearwater2 I don't really focus on macros more aim for half my plate being veg which isn't potatoes, a quarter protein and a quarter carbs. I think I have slimming world plate stuck in my head but it does help me!

I tend to add protein to soups and salads so that I don't have pure veg and then get hungry again in 45 mins as I have a low calorie lunch and then a normal dinner with my family.

I think whatever works for you works for you. Different people find different combos best depending on lifestyle, time, budget etc etc

shearwater2 · 30/04/2024 20:11

Thanks @Scottishskifun

popplego · 02/05/2024 15:13

Hi all! I haven't checked in for a little while but I'm glad the thread is still going and well done everyone for sticking at it 💪🏻

@shearwater2 I don't really look at my macros apart from protein tbh, I just aim for my calorie goal and at least about 100g protein a day (I usually eat more than that) and that seems to work for me. No harm in experimenting and seeing if something different suits you better!

I'm going on holiday in 2 weeks so trying to really be disciplined now 😱 looking at my before and after photos I'm so glad I decided to lose weight, I look and feel so much better. I'm really enjoying the gym and pushing myself there too, I've been seeing a PT for a few weeks which had helped with the focus and accountability to really go for it in the gym. I also had a new low weight today and hope I can keep the momentum going when I get back!

Swearwolf · 02/05/2024 20:59

Great work @popplego! I'm inspired by your stone and a bit, not there yet but I could be by the summer.

Swearwolf · 03/05/2024 07:08

I have weighed myself yet again - I'm so ridiculous, when I feel I'm doing badly I will avoid weighing until I'm doing better, then when it feels like it's going well I'm all excited to see progress and can't help myself.

Another 0.1kg down since earlier this week, almost nothing but it's a downward trend. Converting it to imperial, I am now half a stone down!! Half a stone since September is not great, but it's genuine progress and includes some big increases along the way too.

My first mini goal is 2kg down by the end of May. After that, my next is another 2kg by the end of July (when I turn 40)! In imperial measurements, I am 10 stone 3 and at 5'2" I should be well below 10 stone. If I can hit my 2kg by end of May goal, this will put me just below 10 stone.

Scottishskifun · 03/05/2024 08:07

Weigh in for me today down another 1lb this week so 10 stone 1lb.
2lb to go and I will have lost a stone since joining this thread and 5lb off target!

Got renewed focus this week as I am starting to get the summer clothes out for my holiday next month and really hoping I can get to target!
Start of November I was nearly 13 stone so if I haven't got there by a few lb it's not the end of the world

lisam78 · 03/05/2024 18:52

Hello all, well done on all the losses! It really helps to keep me motivated. At end of last week, I was down to 10st 2lbs, but i have my period and always put weight on at this time, so refraining from weighing until the bloat is gone! As a previous poster said, I'm so glad I have stuck with it and lost some weight. I was so down last summer when I tried on my summer dresses and none of them fit. Progress so far:
SW: (Jul 23) 11st 10lb
CW: 10st 2lbs
GW: 9st 10lbs
BMI: down from 27.2 (overweight) to 23.6 (healthy)

TheDogdidGood · 05/05/2024 21:35

I've gone up a little bit but still under 11 stone, so determined to reach a new low by the end of this week. Still having knee problems and caught the flu again.... Back to work this week so that'll cut down my available eating hours!

I need to be below 12stone 8 by the end of this week

Good luck everyone!

Swearwolf · 10/05/2024 06:31

Well, I've just weighed in at exactly the same weight i was two weeks ago! But I've just had my period and been snacking a lot, so I'll take it.

Scottishskifun · 10/05/2024 18:50

A Sts for me this week which is a bit frustrating but was on freezer/cupboard surprise for 4 days with the kids as DH was away for work for 3 days. It always tends to be carb heavy and veg limited!

Hoping I can have a good weekend and get back to it. I need to keep reminding myself I'm very close to coming under 10 stone which I haven't been in over 6 years!

wheresmyshoe · 14/05/2024 14:17

I've slowed down as I'm working out if I want to lose any more weight. I'm 10st 1lb and I've hit my target before a big event. It had been slow and steady weight loss over a year or more. I started at 11st 10lbs at my top weight and stabilised at 11st 7lbs for a long time.
The advice on this thread has been brilliant. Moderate, sensible and actually worked. Key to me has been cutting down alcohol, weighing and checking everything on MFP to reset portion size and no evening snacking. I don't eat breakfast anyway so more by accident than design I fast 15-16 hours.
