Need to lose 1 stone? Gather around....

Not sure if this will get any clicks, but I wondered if there are folks who need to lose about a stone or a bit this way or that who might want some accountability?

BTW When I say "need to lose a stone" this means basically a stone to get to your own, individual target (which could be a random number, a random BMI point, just anything).

For me - 1 stone off takes me to weight before conceiving Baby 1, and 1.2 stone off takes me to my lightest adult weight and a very comfy size 10-12 as opposed to a size 12-14. I have added motivation that a 40th birthday tails off 2024 for me, so I've got a deadline.

My downfall? Carbs. Salty carbs. My body absolutely magically loses if I cut out rice, pasta and potatoes. And yet, alas - it specifically is those that I crave.

Anyone want a loose accountability thread?

Good morning. May I join? I have a stone to lose.

I've been trying to stay within 1500 calories daily and prioritise protein to keep me feeling more satisfied. Also trying to hit 10000 steps a day and 3 weekly strength workouts in the gym.

Evening snacking is my downfall as well but I've worked out a way to include a protein pudding or yoghurt and a crushed biscuit on top and stay within my calorie allowance. I look forward to this and tend not to feel 'snacky' once I've had that.

ohdearohdearohdearoh · 18/01/2024 08:12

My goal today is 3 meals and no snacks. It's my day off though and I'm at home so that's always a challenge as the biscuit tin calls at me 🫣

kimball · 18/01/2024 08:32

I would like you to join too! I did quite well in spring/summer of 2023 to lose 10kg and was down to about 64 kg/10 st. Then through on and off illness; work stress and the Christmas period I lost control and have gained half a stone back. My ideal target is 62 kg/ 9st 10lbs.

I was doing 20:4 IF and only eating whole foods; walking 10,000 steps everyday, plus one day a week where I relaxed my regime a little. It was working really well and I need to get back on that routine as I miss feeling lighter and more energised and clothes shopping's becoming a depressing experience again.

The need to reward myself for getting through the day by snacking is totally relatable and that is what I am really going to work hard to resist.

Perhaps it's a good idea to set a mini goal for half a stone off by the end of March just to get back to the weight I was last year. Then I will tackle the rest before the summer.

froidIci · 18/01/2024 08:47

I like the half a stone mini goal!

I also think simple rules is really key. Hence for me, at the moment - no pasta/pots/rice + no evening munching are sort of simple enough (she says) targets to try to stick to.

Will post again this evening to see if the accountability really does do the trick for another evening.

I in a very similar place to several of you. I'm 5'7, currently 10st 11. I look my best between 9st 7 and 10st 3. I've been on 1200 cal and it is coming off slowly, my top weight last year was 11st 10. Like others I'm size 12-14 and want to be 10-12.

I'm also a massive salty carb monster with portion control issues. DH is an outstanding cook and everything is delicious. Weighing rice and pasta has been a revelation.
Wine is a serious hobby and it's easy to normalise excessive drinking when it's framed as an intellectual pursuit. My big change is 3-4 nights a week alcohol free.

doodlepants · 18/01/2024 10:17

I would love to do this by the end of March when I go on holiday (VERY wishful thinking). Started a diet on 20th November and have lost half a stone so I think realistically I might get another 1/2 stone by then. 🤞 that would bring me down to pre-baby weight.

I think there is something to posting here for accountability and having others working towards a common goal and I found it really kept me on track last year.

Well, today I managed to stay in my eating window, hit 10,000 steps (first time in a long time) and avoided snacking (I live abroad and it is bedtime now). I will weigh in tomorrow and make that my starting point. Let's do this!

froidIci · 18/01/2024 19:20

Checking in.

On the good side: have avoided rice pasta and potatoes.

On the unknown side: Evening is arriving. Can I do Day 2 or no evening snacking?! Who knows. Checking in here even if it’s just me speaking to myself 😂- will make a herbal tea around 8 and aim to just not snack for Day 2 evening rather than making grandiose promises about “I Shall Never Snack Ever in the Evening”.

Can I join please?

I need to drop the stone I gained eating carby crap, chocolate, and drinking too much.

I'm not going to do a diet I've decided, I'm not going to calorie count, I'm just going to eat healthily and stop drinking. A glass of wine and I start on the crisps, 2 glasses and you can add a family size bar of chocolate to the mix.

So, my plan is to just eat when I'm hungry and eat as healthily as I can without denying myself. Will be interesting to see if it works😅

So, today, I weigh 10st 4lbs
Target weight 9st 4lbs

froidIci · 18/01/2024 19:33

Welcome! I like the idea of simplicity, and mindfulness. I’ve found when I say “This is a Diet. Never will I ever …” I immediately do the opposite.
instead I’ve started telling myself “tonight I will not snack”. Tomorrow is another day.

Hello. Yes I’m planning on losing a stone too. That’s the target I’ve set as I lost 2 stone last time (and yes I regained but that me, I’m a yo-yo dieter and always will be but will have a proper buffer when hit target this time). I started on 1st Jan and I’ve lost 5lbs to date which I’m pleased with. I didn’t have a big loss in week 1 which I thought I might do it’s clearly proper weight and not just Christmas bloat. I gained half a stone in November and December.

I’m determined not to feel rubbish about myself this summer though and I’m in full diet zone. Problem is I have 2 food ‘dates’ with friends this weekend plus my walking group Saturday temptation when everyone orders yummy food or cakes and I get a cup of tea! But Sundays meet with a friend has turned into a walk first and then eat after so that can be my evening meal. Think I’ll bring forward my official weigh day to tomorrow instead of Monday as I’d prefer that as it’s hard on the weekend not to have anything nice when my official weigh day is Monday

Onekidnoclue · 18/01/2024 20:30

I’m in. Ankle problems has meant I’ve been pity eating biscuits and not moving so I now weigh what I did the day before I had my eldest. Annoyingly I don’t drink booze or fizzy drinks and very rarely evening snack so I have no obvious naughtiness to cut out! I’ve been doing 16:8 IF but no impact at all! Though it’s only been a month. I think I need to really limit bread. It’s soooooo easy and delicious though 😭😭😭

lisam78 · 18/01/2024 20:36

Can I join please? I started on trying to improve my health/lose weight back in Aug, and it's been very slow progress. I've been exercising 3 x per week (online spin/ strength classes), 10000 steps per day, and trying to cut down massively on alcohol and UPF (since reading Ultra Processed People), and IF. My weight loss has stalled though since early December, and it's starting to frustrate me - any tips for getting things moving would be welcome! I'm 45 and 5ft 5.

SW - 11St 10lbs
CW - 10st 10lbs
GW - 9st 10lbs

Can I join please?
im 5’4” and currently 9st 10, best at 9st 2 ish.
like @Fartooold im not going to diet specifically as it seems to make me immediately starving, but im definitely cutting down on chocolate and snacks.
my helpful tip is low calorie hot chocolate after supper, really helps.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/01/2024 21:00

I’d lost a pound at SW this weigh in, I’m pissed off with myself to be honest because I’m doing really nice meals and then eating loads of crap. I keep doing it every day. I ate my tea tonight then ate a cookie and two rounds of toast with marmalade 🤦‍♀️

anyway. There’s nothing to do except draw a line and start again. My goal this week is to drink 2 litres of water every day and max out the speed foods- two things that I don’t do enough and I know that makes a big difference.

froidIci · 18/01/2024 21:03

Reading everyone else’s posts It’s so interesting to see for how many of us this business of post-meal-snacking is a really killer of progress. In most cases it appears to be evening snacking. It’s almost like after “behaving”/holding it in/carrying mental loads and weight loss efforts all day - there’s this sense of “it’s 9 pm, I deserve some comfort and wine/chips/cake/chocolate = the comfort I deserve”.

Another evening in my kitty. Day 2 of no evening snacking. It’s great to write on here.

Hello, please can I join?

I am 35 and at the top of the waiting list for IVF however cannot start until BMI is under 30. I have lost 2 stone so far and have 9lbs to lose asap.

The IVF consultant recommended fast 800 as a diet and it worked really well before Christmas but then I gained 8lb over Christmas. Have managed to get that back off but just need that extra push to get the rest off.

Jasrun · 18/01/2024 21:15

Can I join ? I need to lose a stone. I’m 5 ft 7 inches, 49 and was 13 stones. Now 12 stones 10 pounds after cutting out sugar binges. I need to lose a stone to start with

Priororock · 18/01/2024 21:18

Yes this is me, can I join please! I’ve been trying for about a week now. I used to be a size 10, since having 3rd dc I’ve been stuck at a size 12. I feel losing a stone will get me back into my size 10 jeans still hanging in the wardrobe. My downfall has been chocolate, cheese, bread and pasta. I’ve stopped chocolate completely and cut down on cheese a lot. I’ve switched to the odd bit of rye bread, and moved to much smaller portions of wholemeal pasta. I’ve also swapped wine for herbal teas!

wheresmyshoe · 18/01/2024 21:23

That's absolutely it for me @froidIci I need definitely don't need crisps a couple of hours after eating dinner (I also don't need a massive glass of wine after shutting my laptop!).

wheo · 18/01/2024 21:27

I'm hoping to book my wedding in the next couple of months so really want to lose a stone by the end of the year. I lost 3 stone after Covid so I know I can do it.

It's snacks, chocolate and biscuits especially. I have such a sweet tooth.

I'm now eating two meals a day lunch and dinner. I have wholemeal pasta with feta cheese and tomatoes for lunch- this actually seems to keep me satisfied so I'm not desperate to snack when I get home from work.

popplego · 18/01/2024 21:39

Can I join too?

I'm about 5'2 and started calorie counting last week at 10st, now 9'12. I'd like to get down to 9st if I can but it's been a loooong time since I've been in the 8s.

Similarly to a lot of people on here, evening snacks are my nemesis. I try to build myself some calories in to allow for it so I'm not setting myself up to fail! Drinking more water has also massively helped me not to feel hungry between meals in the day and I'm enjoying getting back into the gym Smile

Stickortwister · 18/01/2024 21:45

Can i join in too please. Really interested to learn how others get on and what they're doing. Need some accountability. Really need to lose 2 stone but 1 will do as a first goal. I already do lots of exercise but I also eat A LOT(!). I wish I could pinpoint my downfall.... I loves crisps and sweet and ridiculous takeaway coffees with sugary syrups with cream on top. Bmi currently in overweight category. Have an Easter water park holiday planned and would like to lose a stone by then. Planning on religious my fitness pal use to get there aiming for 1200 a day.
Starting weight 11st 4.

I cut out evening snacking years ago. But I definitely feel I deserve to crack open a bottle of wine in the evening. This is a weekend thing for me, but I'd lie if I said I never had a drink in the week.

So, after my strict no snack, no sugar, no wine January, my plan is to restrict alcohol to Friday and Saturday unless it's a high day or I'm on holiday. Any other weekday, definitely not.

Maybe that could work with those struggling with evening snacking? Go for a couple of days non-snacking, build up to five, and then keep it to a couple of evenings a week if that's easier than cutting it out all together?

Fawful · 18/01/2024 22:54

I'm another one who'd like to join 👋 Evenings are my problem too. And office biscuits, particularly when working on something nebulous... I ate too much earlier today, evidently, as I reached my cals total by 7pm, and have been hangry since. Off to bed, as this is not fun - hopefully I can sleep even though hungry...
I used to be very good at dieting but since I've turned 50 I literally cannot stop myself eating.
I'm hoping being accountable to this thread may help... if not I may join Slimming World, or start Zoe. I usually count calories but this hasn't worked for the last few years. We'll see.
I'm in danger of not even fitting in my leggings anymore!
