If you have a bit more to lose and will be doing this for a while and want a nice supportive crowd to hang out with while you're at it this might be the thread for you.

I'm planning to start properly on Monday. The Christmas food will be gone by then, school back and normal routine at work so feels like a good time to start.
My biggest challenge is that I love to cook and bake - it's my happy place and how I relax. I've downloaded a couple of cookbooks with lighter, healthier food that's still delicious so am going to try to get into those recipes. I really don't want to diet, I know I won't stick to it - I just want to gradually make better choices and be more active.

Coming out of lurkdom. It's good to see a positive thread for someone like me. Thank you,@stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk

I get tired of threads where posters' starting weights are pounds less than my goal weight. This feels like a nice safe place.

I've struggled with my relationship with food for decades. I kept all my "thin" clothes in one side of the wardrobe, and I'll move them across as they start to fit again. Which I'm determined to make happen this year. I'm doing IF and low-carb, and will celebrate every single pound that comes off and is no longer wrecking my knees.

I obsess over numbers and do endless calculations instead of taking some kind of exercise to clear my head and lose a few ounces. I've decided not to write down a target weight, but to go by how my clothes fit and how many pounds lost.

Onthegrid · 07/01/2024 11:50

@WinningByLosing clothes fitting and then being too big has always been a big motivator for me. Last time I lost a large amount I kept my favourite trousers from my first weigh in as a reminder of how much I had lost and a pair that I wanted to fit in as a target.
Ready for this time I have hanging in my wardrobe fabulous evening outfit that I last wore Christmas 2019 my clothes goal is to be able to wear this for Christmas 2024.

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 07/01/2024 12:28

@WinningByLosing thanks sweetie, whatever works for you, I know the devastation of uncooperative scales all too well. I always tell myself you can't control what the scales say but you can control what you eat so I have to calorie count because my habits and instincts couldn't be relied on.

Hi, please can I join?

I joined the gym 7 years ago as I thought I was sooooo fat. I've since gained 20kg ConfusedBlush

I can't keep going like this as I feel disgusting. I look pregnant but also am fat everywhere - there are no problem areas. All of it is too much.

CW 92.5kg/14.7
TW 56/60kg or 9/10 stone.

I love to eat and don't handle being hungry very well. I eat a lot of carbs so my blood sugar is a rollercoaster. I will be low carbing and making sure I exercise more. I currently exercise a good amount and have stayed the same weight for a year which is better than putting on even more weight.

Gabriella83 · 07/01/2024 13:13

I gave all my "thin" clothes to my MIL a few years ago. They just sat there taunting me. All I kept was a pair of sparkly tartan Christmas trousers with the label still on. They never did quite fit when I bought them. I'm determined to get into them by Christmas 2024. Probably won't ever wear them in public though but they've been my goal for over 20 years since I bought them! Trying to stay positive this weekend. I feel so bloated as it's my time of the month. Have to keep telling myself the bloat will be gone in a couple of days. So tempting to eat junk as I feel so rough and sluggish.

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 07/01/2024 13:15

Hi there @NewYearNewPyjamas and welcome! If you've stayed the same weight for the last year it sounds like you're in a pretty good place to start from.

Agree with keeping old items of clothing for comparison. When I first lost all the weight I found my old bridesmaid dress tailor made for me when I was 15. It was too big. I’d probably still get in to it now, a stone heavier and it would be tight and maybe not do up - but that feeling cannot be topped.

looking forward to everyone’s losses tmw 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

Bumblebeebum23 · 07/01/2024 14:58

I've just had a big sort our of my wardrobe and donated/chucked all of my size 16/18 clothes. For me, getting rid of them removes the safety blanket of having clothes that would fit me if I regained. I have kept all my "skinny" clothes for years and years determined that I will get back into them. I am currently into my size 14s but have a wardrobe full of 10s, 12s (and even a few stretchy 8s!!). Determined that this year, I can actually wear some of them again

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 07/01/2024 15:16

I donated/chucked all of my size 16/18 clothes. Woohoo good going! @Bumblebeebum23 In the end I got rid of so many of mine but with the promise that if I ended up losing the weight I'd treat myself to new clothes.

I recently bought myself some 'one size' wrap skirts that are definitely a bit too small for my comfort (they fit but not much overlap) right now but I hope will last me well.

I still have a 20 year old pair of top shop size ten jeans.... one day...

NewYearNewPyjamas · 07/01/2024 15:28

I have a whole section of wardrobe filled with clothes from size 8 - 12. I will be sorting them out and throwing most of them away. Seeing them is a big inspiration to me as I couldn't even squeeze into them now.

I'll probably start low carbing tomorrow. I had two McDonald's breakfasts and a kfc meal so far today as I'm 3/10 hungover. 😵

RunningKatie · 07/01/2024 15:34

Can I join too please? I weighed in at 15st on Weds much to my horror. I've joined a gym but am only managing to go once a week so far.
I need to put time aside for the gym but also meal planning. My lovely dh does not get it when I say we need to eat more fresh food, it's like he has fruit and veg blindness. So, I plan on doing the shopping myself and starting to fill the freezer with batch cooking.
Life would be easier if the dc weren't as fussy, I think we just stopped trying, then dh got ill and I just fed us what was easy and quick. I have a big birthday in a year and need the weight off before then, I'm so aware of the health risks.

I'm joining up!

I'm 17 stone 4 lbs aiming to get down to 10 stone 7 which would give me a healthy bmi.

I'm going to be doing fast 800 for 12 weeks first to give myself a kick start doing the 16.8, eating my food between 12 and 8pm.

Will be starting tomorrow :)

Will update after day 1.

Also Well done to everyone who has lost weight so far and all the newbies like myself on this journey. I've read previous thread just for the motivation.

2024 will be our year. X

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 07/01/2024 15:38

every new day is a chance for a new start @NewYearNewPyjamas you can lose weight eating fast food as long as you create a calorie deficit.

https://thecrimsonwhite.com/4037/news/twinkie-diet-fad-sheds-pounds/

I did hear about a guy who ate 1000 calories of McDonald's every day. He lost weight, his cholesterol improved and other stuff. I often use this as an excuse when I'm on the road and only McDonald's is available.

Today is day one. Work emergency at 6am so didn't get to go to the gym. Usually there at 5 but the dark morning and it being Monday I timed it differently and it didn't pay off. I can do it tonight when I get back tho. I try not to focus on the training too much, sure it helps but diet is the most important.

soupfiend · 08/01/2024 07:11

Well his cholesterol improved because of the weight loss yes.

Bumblebeebum23 · 08/01/2024 07:47

Monday weigh-in...2lbs off this week 😊 hoping to be back in the 12s next week 🙏

SW: 15st 9lbs (June)
CW: 13st
TW: 10st

Hope everyone has a great week x

NewYearNewPyjamas · 08/01/2024 08:03

soupfiend · 08/01/2024 07:11

Well his cholesterol improved because of the weight loss yes.

Yes! Everything improved, think blood pressure, cholesterol etc etc

It's funny isn't how we are told certain foods are the devil but, in moderation, nothing is.

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 08/01/2024 08:12

Morning @Bumblebeebum23 Well done on your loss you'll be back in the 12s in no time at that rate! I think you're right @NewYearNewPyjamas creating a calorie deficit is the key for losing weight. Morning Everyone.

[SW (july 23 150kg 26 wk weight loss july 23 - jan 1st 26kg]
✅last mini goal reached was 124.5kg => 4 stone lost

My weekly update -
SW (as of 1st Jan '24) : 124 kg
CW: 122.6 kg so a loss of 1.4kg
TW (1st July): 92 kg

next 'proper' mini goal 120kg => 20% body weight lost but as a quirky trivia 123kg was my weigh in weight with ds3 so yay I weigh now what I did then.
Average calories this week around 1500
total gym trips:4 Estimated tdee 2500 :. Estimated calorie deficit around 1000
So I was probably getting rid of a bit of christmas bloating as well as burning some fat.

=========disclaimer========= nhs advice is that for healthy sustainable weight loss your goal should be between 0.5 and 1kg a week (1 - 2 pounds). However advice depends on bmi and 2-3 pounds or 1 - 1.5kg per week, is quite typical advice for those with a higher bmi. My goal is 1.25 kg a week which is almost exactly 1% of my body mass and I am confident that that is right for me but that doesn't mean that I'm confident that that target is right for you. And even if I was you shouldn't listen to me I'm just a random person on the internet not a medical professional. If you are in any doubt as how much you should be aiming to lose per week discuss it with your doctor or stick with a lower target.

First Monday weigh in after starting last week

1.1.24 112kg
8.1.24 108.7 kg

Lost 3.3kgs 😁

Long way to go but chuffed with this week and super motivated for the week to come. I'm only thinking week by week atm.

Im tracking calories on Nutracheck which is new to me and Im really liking the app so thanks for the recommendation. Nutracheck has given me a goal of 20% off (89.6kg ) and I'd be delighted to be anywhere in this ball park for the summer. Its been 25 years since I weighed less than 90kgs so I have no recollection of how it feels and I may be happy to just stick there... who knows.

Good luck everyone with weigh ins and the week ahead. We've got this!
