I have two stone to lose and my eating is out of control again. Always grazing. Hate the feeling of being a little bit hungry. I feel disgusting but I have to do something. I have a 1.5 year old child and I still haven’t lost the baby weight. I feel like I have no excuse now, I can’t believe she will be 2 next year and I’m still carrying this baby weight.

any tips on staying in a calorie deficit?

Agree it’s hard , half term this week and denying myself ‘treats’ when the kids are having them.

Spudlover · 19/10/2023 16:48

Ok day again here so far but I’m really all or nothing. I’m either as good as gold, or hoovering up every bit of sugar in the house. Classic binge eater I suppose, although reducing carbs really helps with the sugar cravings. Luckily my kids are old enough to go out and buy their own rubbish so good luck with half term @TogetherWeLearn

Today will be hard boiled eggs and spinach, tuna salad, Cajun pork and beans with cauliflower rice and a couple of Babybels this evening. Plus treadmill.

ColinRobinsonsFart · 19/10/2023 19:36

No breakfast as DH got in from work in the wee hours - so we had a lie in.

Lunch - prawn and veg stir fry with wholemeal noodles

Pudding - Greek yogurt, banana and a handful of mixed seeds

Tea - the last of yesterday's frittata with salad

Pudding ( yes I know) - yogurt with blueberries

221BBakerSt · 19/10/2023 19:59

Hi can I join you? You all sound as if you are doing well. I started earlier this week, have a lot to lose but happy to do it steadily. I really need to stop snacking and stop junk food.
Today I’ve had porridge with fruit and seeds, omelette and salad, and tonnes of vegetable soup.

ColinRobinsonsFart · 19/10/2023 20:16

@221BBakerSt welcome. Plenty of room on the sofa.

Snacking - I think that is a problem for everyone. A lot go for fruit ( I know I do) but it's recommended to pair it up with a protein so you stay fuller longer. Also full fat yogurt etc is good.

Myneedycat · 19/10/2023 20:25

ColinRobinsonsFart · 15/10/2023 19:58

@friedandfrazzled

This is it

www.secondnature.io/guides/nutrition/nhs-trusted-meal-plan

It's an app with a handbook and a recipe book - it also comes with a set of Bluetooth scales to weigh yourself. I get it free because of my diagnosis.
I will photograph and post some more info tomorrow - I am tucked up in bed...

That looks great! Actually good I would want to eat. How did you get your GP to recommend it?

Myneedycat · 19/10/2023 20:27

I need to lose four stone. Just can’t get in the zone at all. I don’t really snack or eat rubbish. I think my portions are just too big and I need to cut right down on carbs.

ColinRobinsonsFart · 19/10/2023 20:35

@Myneedycat - pre diabetes!

But I know you can pay for it yourself - like ww etc

ColinRobinsonsFart · 19/10/2023 20:39

This sort of thing ( or just the idea) can help with portion control.

1/4 protein
1/4 complex carbs ( wholemeal pasta/ brown rice etc)
1/2 vegetables

Starting tomorrow, again. Who’s with me?
ColinRobinsonsFart · 19/10/2023 20:39

And a bit of good fats - eg olive oil

friedandfrazzled · 19/10/2023 20:45

@ColinRobinsonsFart are you calorie counting or just being mindful of what you eat? I find it hard to calorie count long term but need to get into a habit

OP posts:
ColinRobinsonsFart · 19/10/2023 21:00

No calorie counting

Just portion control
No highly processed foods
Choosing complex carbs

Myneedycat · 19/10/2023 21:00

I’ve got pre diabetes too. Must see if I get get it free too.

ColinRobinsonsFart · 19/10/2023 21:06

@Myneedycat - gp referred me without me knowing. I got a message saying I had been signed up and gave me a link to the app.

We get a set of blue tooth scales and a recipe book. You are allocated a dietitian ( you can message them) and you are put in a little support group. There are daily things to read and every so often you are asked to do an activity ( fill in the food diary for a day). But you don't have to do any of it.
All that is required is you weigh yourself every so often and retake your blood test after three months.

221BBakerSt · 20/10/2023 17:34

@ColinRobinsonsFart I’ve seen those plates before, that might be just what I need. I lost a lot of weight years ago low carb but it didn’t help me get in to a healthy-size-portion habit at all.

I’m feeling much better mentally now I’m not snacking, so if I can keep that up I’m sure I’ll lose weight. I do find eating fruit makes me very hungry (sugars spike??) and I’m more likely to overeat afterwards but I love salads and don’t actually mind just not having snacks between meals. Tomorrow’s plan is soft boiled egg with rye toast for breakfast, vegetarian chilli and salad for lunch and dinner of Asian Lamb Chops with wilted greens and grilled mushrooms/tomatoes

ColinRobinsonsFart · 20/10/2023 19:35

@221BBakerSt - I don't have one of those plates but I have been looking at them.
I had this tonight - air fried salmon and potatoes, broccoli, green beans and a leek and prawn sauce.
I set it out like one of those plates.

I only ate half of the potatoes and half of the fish ( fish is going to eaten tomorrow)

For lunch I had flatbread filled with cheese and salad. No Mayo.

Spudlover · 20/10/2023 20:55

That looks lush @ColinRobinsonsFart. There’s no way I would have been able to leave half of it!

@221BBakerSt portion sizes are partly the issue for me too, may invest in a plate.

OK day here despite getting into arguments at work. Especially with one guy who is a total prick. I’ve had a week of it, this perhaps wasn’t to best week to go dry 😆

Dinner tonight also fish, smoked haddock with a poached egg, spinach, samphire and celeriac chips. Standard eggs and salad the rest of the day.

MrsHedgewitch · 20/10/2023 23:05

You’re all doing so well! Will get my head in to gear.

221BBakerSt · 20/10/2023 23:10

@ColinRobinsonsFart yum!!!

@Spudlover I haven’t managed to get samphire for ages, it’s SO good. I must be more adventurous with fish - I’ve never tried fish curry for example - but I enjoy good fish cooked simply so much I forget to try other stuff that must taste lovely too. Will look at some recipes!

@MrsHedgewitch you can do it!

RememberToSmile1980 · 21/10/2023 07:32

Hi all, you seem to be doing really well. Loving the pictures of meals. I've been fairly good. Mix of fasting and cutting out snacks and bad carbs. I'm really trying to be mindful of what I eat. Had a big even at work on Thursday with a buffet - but it was my only meal of the day so hopefully not too much damage! I'm not the kind of person who can totally cut everything out! Therefore I have had the odd mini chocolate. I need to get my backside in gear with regards to exercise! Half-term has started and I am conscious the children are at home and I've got plans to take them out. Will need to resist! Are we going to update on how much we are losing?

221BBakerSt · 21/10/2023 09:19

@RememberToSmile1980 I’m happy to, though will try not to obsess with the scales. I’ve lost 4lbs since 6/10 so quite pleased with that. Need to choose a weigh day now I know it is all actually working lol

Spudlover · 22/10/2023 20:29

How’s everyone’s weekends been?

My weigh in day is Sunday and I have no idea how, but I have managed to lose 8lbs. Obviously all water and is down to first week low carbing, I usually get a biggish loss. Guarantee it won’t be that next week but for now I’m pleased!

Food has been good although portions big again. Smoked salmon, scrambled eggs for brunch, cottage cheese mid afternoon, gammon, cauli cheese, cavalo nero and mini celeriac roasties for dinner.

I would murder a glass of wine tonight.

Starting tomorrow, again. Who’s with me?

@Spudlover I have been working on our allotment today. We picked the last of the carrots, some figs, cabbages and chilli peppers.

Lunch - cheese and salad sandwich ( wholemeal sourdough bread) and a banana
For tea - We had chicken, mushroom and spinach curry with brown rice. I made some yogurty dip thing with Greek yogurt, garlic and grated cucumber.

Fresh fruit salad for pudding

My weight is pretty stagnant at the moment - I need something to kick start it all again.

I have recently been looking at Ultra High Processed Foods - I got a book about it and will start reading it this week

That’s amazing well done!!

I’ve only lost 1/4lb… which isn’t great :( I need to step up so from tomorrow I’ll be reducing carbs a lot more as clearly what I’m doing isn’t working.

221BBakerSt · 22/10/2023 22:42

@Spudlover that’s fantastic, well done!

I’m feeling quietly proud of myself - was out for lunch on Saturday but had feta & olive salad and a wee bit of fruit slice…and was out today too but just had herbal tea. Today’s food has been a bit meh ( 2 x protein bars and a large salad with some tuna) but I’ve gotten through the weekend overall very well.

Tomorrow is weigh day, and food plan is: Greek yoghurt and berries, pumpkin soup, fish stew with loads of side veg.
