Hi,

I have 'lurked' on MM for almost 18 years and think this is the second thread I've ever started. Desperate times call for desperate measures and all that! Mostly I'm creating this as a place to hold myself accountable.

As the title says, I'm not sure how much I want to lose, but know I'm fed up looking at the same number on the scale and not making any meaningful changes.

I'm 5'9", and weigh 11st 3.6lbs, BMI 23.3. About 12 years ago, when I'd finished having my kids, I lost about 3st. I was just below 9st for a while, which in retrospect was probably a bit too slim for me, but settled at 9 1/2st and remained there for about 7 or 8 years. It crept up a bit before COVID and then up again post- COVID.

I was in my early thirties when I lost the original weight. Low carbed, but definitely not Leto- just stopped bread, pasta & potatoes, and the weight just dropped off me. Granted I had young kids & was working full time! However, I think at times I was eating very little just to maintain my weight, and I am just not interested in that anymore- I love food.

So, if you're still with me, think I'd like to get to 10 1/2st then close to 10st. In my head that sounds achievable, but every time I start being more healthy- it lasts for 10 days max and then I'm back to square 1.

I'm going to do 16:8, which I like. Don't want to low carb completely but maybe be more mindful (I enjoy double and triple carving Grin ) We eat Hello Fresh or Gousto meals each week and we are all too busy to be making different meals each night. Husband & teenagers all do their fair share of the cooking. Wine and crisps on a Friday and Saturday night are my biggest vice. I love wine but not sure it loves me anymore- makes me so tired and hungry the next day, but after a long, stressful week at work I enjoy it. I do go to the gym 4 or 5 times a week, but I'm fairly ineffectual and exercise makes me hungrier so not thinking about that too much.

Anyway, think that's more than enough. Would be lovely to get some company to keep each other going.

Best of luck to you.

I’m a lot shorter than you but I wrote a similar post about a month ago. I also lost a lot of weight many years ago after having my kids, but had regained about a stone or 1.5 stone over the past 2 years.

It’s so much harder to lose and maintain now than it was in early 30s. I’m also a weekend wine lover Wink

I started a month ago and am a comfortable size 10 now. I’ve lost about 10 pounds and definitely want to get the stone off.

I used to be an 8, but like you.. I’m not sure if I want to deprive myself to get there. I finally feel like I have a good balance.

Best of luck to you! I’m off to google 16:8 Smile

dottyhenson · 05/09/2023 22:00

Thanks so much for replying. 10lbs in a month is brilliant. Finding it so hard to just commit- but know that I can if I just do it for longer than 10 days.

Best of luck to you too Smile

I am aiming to lose around a stone. 5'7 and weighed 11st 6lb when I weighed myself at the weekend. Heaviest I've been apart from when pregnant and fairly happy around 10st 10 but ideally would like to back to 10st 4lb where I was until I got pregnant!

I'm doing it by calorie counting on My Fitness Pal but only since Saturday and making sure I do at least 10,000 steps a day. 11st 4lb today.

Good luck!

Chunkymonkee · 05/09/2023 23:33

Hello, your post sounds so familiar from the history to the 10 days tops. I have 4 small kids and each time I put on about 4 stone with each. I’m almost back to normal but there is just a stubborn stone I can’t shift and the baby is now not a baby by 2 so I’d like to by now.
I would like to post and be accountable and supported.
We can do it 💪

dottyhenson · 06/09/2023 06:28

Welcome everyone @TheDuchessOfMN @sunflowerdaisyrose @Chunkymonkee

Delighted to have some company. We all sound very similar so can definitely help each other out and keep ourselves motivated 💪

Had a sneaky peak on some of the other weight loss threads and they all start with their 'stats', so...

SW 11st 6lbs
CW 11st 3lbs
1st GW <11
2nd GW 10 1/2st

Just about to drag myself out of bed for extremely busy day at work but have small portion of sticky cauliflower noodle leftovers (HelloFresh) packed for lunch, so it's a good start.

Have a great day everyone.

I’ll join in with an accountability thread! After my first child I got down to 129 pounds and was very slim, stayed at about 130-135 but with my second put on a lot more and it hasn’t shifted. I’ve wavered between 150-155 pounds for the last three years. Would like to reach 140. It’s so hard! Like you I love a couple or glasses of wine and crisps or nuts on a Friday/Sat night. I’d still like to treat myself but maybe swap the wine for a small glass of beer, will look into the calories.

JollyMollyPolly · 06/09/2023 07:25

Hi All, I'd like to join too please. I started intermittent fasting last week. Currently sat at 12st 3, and 5ft 7. I'm heavier now than I was when I was heavily pregnant with my twins (now teens)! I've gained weight a little over the years, but COVID lockdown added a stone and then I was diagnosed with a medical condition and I was told to do less by my consultant, I get easily fatigued so that explains the last half a stone.

SW: 12st 5
CW: 12st 3
1st GW: 11st 4, 2nd GW: 10st 4.

Chunkymonkee · 06/09/2023 08:14

morning! Scales say 146lb this morning, so

SW: 146lb
GW: 133lb

Im only short 5 4, so I think it will make quite a difference.

so just under a stone to lose.
all the kids back to school today and me off to work. It’s going to be a busy one, but sometimes that helps as I’m not fixating on food.

dottyhenson · 06/09/2023 18:10

Welcome @Longwhiskers and @JollyMollyPolly we're getting quite the wee group here!

Am currently sitting in the car in the gym car park about to go for a wee swim- it's roasting here today.

Will have dinner when I get home- think it might be a quick beans & toast as Hello Fresh arrives tomorrow. Happy enough with that and eating later leaves no time for snacking as that's my real nemesis!

Hope everyone having a good day and having something tasty and nutritious for dinner Smile

Chunkymonkee · 06/09/2023 20:39

There wasn’t a lot of planning that went into today but I think it went ok meal wise?

breakfast: Aldi Everest mint protein pud + banana
lunch: Aldi Thai red veg curry, 3x tangerines, Aldi passion fruit protein yog
dinner: spicy hummous sandwich, passion fruit protein yog and two cups of tea!

I think I’m happy with today ( unless I remember something/s else Ive scarfed and forgotten about 😂 as that does happen !!)

dottyhenson · 06/09/2023 21:17

Sounds like a good day @Chunkymonkee. I am a fellow Aldi lover 🥰

According to MFP I am only just over 1000 calories for today day but I think that is way too low an estimation.

Lunch around 2pm- sticky cauliflower noodles. Very small portion (for me!), cup of strawberries & blackberries

Dinner just after 8pm- beans on toast with some grated cheese. Toast was only 2 small bits of whole meal sourdough. Was delicious.

Approximately 10,000 cups of peppermint, green & chamomile tea.

Exercise- swam 30 lengths in my usual head out of the water 'old lady not wanting to get water in my contact lenses' style. Swim was lovely after a hot busy day- I like the feeling of stretching my limbs in the water rather than as cardio exercise.

Fairly pleased with today.

Hello can I join please - I have about a stone and a half to lose. I've just lost a stone so making decent progress but this is slowing now and im losing interest in the diet after 2 months of being good.

dottyhenson · 06/09/2023 21:49

Hi @Snipples 👋

I think 2 months is amazing- as you'll see up thread I struggle with anything over 10 days or even over the weekend!

wellingtonsandwaffles · 06/09/2023 21:59

SW 10 stone 11
GW1 10 stone, GW2 9 stone 6

I’d like to join please! Need some accountability and motivation. I’m short and hover healthily at 9 stone 10/11 lbs. When really active and healthy I’ve got down to just under 9 stone. Right now I’m a good stone more than my happy weight though. I’ve eaten terribly for a year and this is the result! I have a binge eating tendency so need to curb that. Need to stop all the snacks and puddings. I have Covid right now so that’s the perfect appetite suppressant! Hope it doesn’t return with force after Covid. Don’t have a specific diet in mind yet other than “eat healthier food and stop late night binges” I just have to stick at it!

Longwhiskers · 06/09/2023 22:18

My days always start so well but get worse food wise as the day goes on. Positives - ate some lovely kale and squash gnocchi dish for dinner! And did lots of walking. Negatives - had a piece of Bakewell tart and some chocolate after dinner. Ah well!

Snipples · 06/09/2023 22:29

Ah thanks. It's just so dull. Currently having an off week so need to lose the 4lbs of dodgy carb snack weight I put on by being too "relaxed" about food choices

dottyhenson · 07/09/2023 06:28

Morning everyone 👋

Welcome to @wellingtonsandwaffles- join the 'maybes' club.

@Longwhiskers @Snipples I'm the same! Great in the morning and through the day, but depending on how tired/ unprepared I am dinner can be a carb overload and then at the weekend I open the wine and it's snacks a go go!

This thread is just for accountability and balance. As I said in my OP I'm not interested in depriving myself- I've done that before, it's not healthy.

About to get up and start the day. Have a good one everybody 😊

OP posts:
Snipples · 07/09/2023 11:24

So I'm still weighing in at 13.8lbs when I was 13.4lbs. Very annoying. It's my own fault as I haven't been drinking enough water and eating more crap so it's water retention and salt. I've not eaten enough calories for it to be a true gain.

It'll shift again and then I need to budge those 4 lbs to get into the next stone bracket.

My overall goal is 12 stone which probably seems very high to many of you but is just over my skinny wedding weight so will be a slim size 12 for me.

Fran92 · 07/09/2023 14:14

Can I join please? Also need some accountability, got a holiday in 8 weeks that I need to loose weight for, none of my clothes fit and I’ve reluctantly had to buy size 12 clothes on Vinted for it, not yet tried on my swimsuit so will give that a go in a few weeks

. I’m 10 weeks post childbirth but the biggest I’ve ever been and BMI is now classed as overweight. I’m happy to go heavy on the diet for the next two months and then steady out, can only work out at home whilst looking after a newborn and a toddler and walking. Biggest vice is snacks when I’ve had poor sleep and snacks in an evening, not had a wine since birth yet so it’s purely eating!

SW 67kg - 10st 7
CW 65 kg - 10st 3
GW for holiday 62 kg- 9st 10
overall GW 56kg - 8st 11

dottyhenson · 07/09/2023 16:17

Welcome @Fran92- delighted to have you & congratulations on your new baby 💐

@Snipples I was shocked that I hadn't lost about 10lbs this morning after a low calorie and tiny bit of exercise day yesterday! Yes that's how my brain works 😂

OP posts:
Snipples · 07/09/2023 18:48

Congratulations on your baby @Fran92. Having a lovely holiday to look forward to will be great motivation.

@dottyhenson me too! I'm very annoyed if the scale doesn't shift if I'm making good choices, but just need to stick at it.

I've ordered a healthy food shop so will get meal planning for the next few days so I'm not tempted with carby treats.

wellingtonsandwaffles · 07/09/2023 19:06

lost 2lbs in the last few days, but that’s mostly a covid lack of appetite I think! 10 stone 9 now. trialling eating more in the morning and less throughout the day, as it has always been the other way around and I end up night binging!

Fran92 · 07/09/2023 19:21

Thanks all.

Oh no sorry you’re not well @wellingtonsandwaffles, I’m a night time snacker, I found just giving myself one good snack with a piece of fruit has really helped me focus!

@dottyhenson @Snipples me too, Im only weighing once a week now though and I’ve actually taken measurements to track any inches loss as that’s helpful too. Many years back I did the body coach plan and only lost 3/4kg at the time but lost a good 15 inches all over so that’s a good motivator too.

ill have a little snack shortly but finishing the day at 1100 cals - on the low side today simply because I’ve not managed a good walk and to be honest I’m actually full and bulked everything I’ve had today with a bowl of spinach and cucumber which I love!

snowlady4 · 07/09/2023 19:36

Hi all.. can I join? I use weight loss resources to track.. it's a great site. (Highly recommended and 24hr free trial available to everyone)
I want to lose around a stone before my Christmas holiday. Done it before and feel fab when I'm at my goal weight, but then I go off it completely and need to do it again! My real goal weight is about a stone and a half from where I am now- but I just don't find that maintainable- not if I want to enjoy life with food and drink- which I do!

dottyhenson · 07/09/2023 19:52

Welcome @snowlady4 this is definitely the right thread for those of us that want to lose slowly, but don't want to deprive ourselves & still enjoy a weekend glass of wine.

@wellingtonsandwaffles hope you feel better soon.

I've had an ok day food wise. Lunch was 2 small leftover veggie enchiladas and dinner was a sweet potato & lentil curry (no rice or bread). Not looked it up yet on MFP.

Anyone got a good recommendation for a women to follow who does simple/ easy weight exercises. Know I should be doing some but have no upper body strength and fill not daft doing anything alongside all the 6ft teenage boys in the gym!
