Hi,

I have 'lurked' on MM for almost 18 years and think this is the second thread I've ever started. Desperate times call for desperate measures and all that! Mostly I'm creating this as a place to hold myself accountable.

As the title says, I'm not sure how much I want to lose, but know I'm fed up looking at the same number on the scale and not making any meaningful changes.

I'm 5'9", and weigh 11st 3.6lbs, BMI 23.3. About 12 years ago, when I'd finished having my kids, I lost about 3st. I was just below 9st for a while, which in retrospect was probably a bit too slim for me, but settled at 9 1/2st and remained there for about 7 or 8 years. It crept up a bit before COVID and then up again post- COVID.

I was in my early thirties when I lost the original weight. Low carbed, but definitely not Leto- just stopped bread, pasta & potatoes, and the weight just dropped off me. Granted I had young kids & was working full time! However, I think at times I was eating very little just to maintain my weight, and I am just not interested in that anymore- I love food.

So, if you're still with me, think I'd like to get to 10 1/2st then close to 10st. In my head that sounds achievable, but every time I start being more healthy- it lasts for 10 days max and then I'm back to square 1.

I'm going to do 16:8, which I like. Don't want to low carb completely but maybe be more mindful (I enjoy double and triple carving Grin ) We eat Hello Fresh or Gousto meals each week and we are all too busy to be making different meals each night. Husband & teenagers all do their fair share of the cooking. Wine and crisps on a Friday and Saturday night are my biggest vice. I love wine but not sure it loves me anymore- makes me so tired and hungry the next day, but after a long, stressful week at work I enjoy it. I do go to the gym 4 or 5 times a week, but I'm fairly ineffectual and exercise makes me hungrier so not thinking about that too much.

Anyway, think that's more than enough. Would be lovely to get some company to keep each other going.

Plan for today: Greek yoghurt with blackberries, for lunch avocado on toast and cherry tomatoes, dinner has to be something using cauliflower.

Have you tried cauliflower in the airfryer? I haven't but have seen some recipes for it! Might be something different!

snowlady4 · 11/09/2023 11:32

Week one = 2lb down. 12lb to go.

Breakfast: bit random, but using up what's in the fridge: hard boiled egg, one crumpet with butter and some strawberries! (Around 300 calories,)

Lunch: probably soup and an omlette! (I purchased an omlette maker this morning which I'm unnaturally excited about!)

Tea: some kind of meat with a large salad I expect. (Need to buy meat today!)

Hope everyone feeling in the zone and ready for a good week!

Ladybug06 · 11/09/2023 16:06

2lb loss - was eating pretty well during the week but slipped over the weekend & today so need to get back on track tomorrow.

My eating habits are similar to 16:8 so just need to reduce some of my carb intake

dottyhenson · 11/09/2023 18:35

Welcome @EdithStourton @ImaginingDragonz- great weight loss already for you!

I'm ready for the week ahead. Slipped a fair bit yesterday- very carb heavy but straight back on it today.

I had some leftover chilli for lunch (no rice or bread) and will have Veggie Thai Yellow Curry for dinner after I come home from the gym.

During the week I am finding if I can postpone having my dinner until later this is stopping the late night snacking.

Would ideally like to get under 11st by end of September so hopefully on track.

How is everyone else doing?

Well done to those that have lost already!

I won’t weigh until Wednesday but I tried on a pair of jeans that I couldn’t fasten 6 weeks ago and they fastened so definitely on the right track. Back on it today and will end on around 900 cals, having a low day today to limit damage from Saturday but have managed to have some treats of a couple of biscuits so not depriving myself, I really like salad and leaves etc so bulk out all my meals with that but had chicken and oriental veg tonight so was rather filling anyway.

I need to up my steps, I seem to be hovering around 5/6k a day which is a vast improvement on few weeks ago now babies naps are a bit more predictable but would like to hit 10k.

EdithStourton · 11/09/2023 22:35

I'm out most of tomorrow, and away from all food except my packed lunch. That should help!

Chunkymonkee · 12/09/2023 06:58

i had a bad day yesterday!
started off good with a banana and yog for breakfast, lunch was also ok with a veg byriani and fruit but then I picked up a sandwich in the station on the way back AND had tea with the kids ( two mini chicken tacos) and then had some ( healthy) snacks ( grapes and an apple with peanut butter).
I need a plan for the train station on the way home so I don’t just grab something when tired and hungry.
MFP put it at 2123. I did walk 13000 steps at work so it might go some way but overall not great and I get why I’m not losing weight

snowlady4 · 12/09/2023 13:43

I'm off today so should be a good day as will be in control of what I eat..

Breakfast: omlette and some fruit/yogurt.

Lunch: currently out an about, having a nice coffee in a cafe with a fruit salad. Might have something else small when I get home.. perhaps a bowl of soup and couple rice cakes to do me until tea time.

Tea: vegetable pasta I think.

snowlady4 · 12/09/2023 13:50

@chunkymonkee
Doesn't sound like a terrible day, but if you want to swerve the train station snacks on the way home, throw a few cereal bars or something similar (apple and banana is good- fills you up an takes a bit of time to eat,) into your bag that you can eat instead. This is what works for me if I know I'm out an about an likely to be peckish. Saves you ££ too!

snowlady4 · 12/09/2023 13:52

@fran92
A brilliant feeling getting those jeans done up again!

Chunkymonkee · 12/09/2023 22:14

Thank you- that’s kind. I think part of the allure is the discounts they apply as I’m heading home 😂 😂 but I did serve them today, so progress not perfection.

B: banana and Lidl choc protein pudding
L: Aldi red Thai curry pot, tangerines, blueberry yog, beef jerky
D: fish fingers, chips and peas ( not strictly mine 😂) coleslaw, prawns and salad ( actually my tea)
S: apple ( in the train station!) frozen grapes

MFP puts it all at 1797

so I have a question- for all those eating 900 or 1000 calories- what does that look like ( ahem, obvs not ur kids dinner AND your own I suspect is part of it). I feel like I need some examples.

Fran92 · 13/09/2023 04:14

@Chunkymonkee I came in at 900 cals yesterday with the following, some of my choices aren’t necessarily the best nutritionally but I never go to bed hungry!

B - Two rounds of toast with 10gram butter (bread was 50/50 which I find the lowest cal) OR i sometimes have a green yoghurt pot with a sprinkle of linseed & a few raisins
L - 3 ryvitas with garlic soft cheese spread (around 15grama) with a large side salad with leaves, tomatoes, cucumber and spring onion etc
D - two egg omelette with mushroom and onions, with a small amount of cheese (10grams - about half the size of a small raisin snack box) no cooking oil used to
S - low cal crisps - 70 cals a pack & two rice cakes with a smear of Nutella and then up to 100ml milk for my coffees throughout the day. I don’t always have milk and I never have sugar

I sometimes have chicken or ham instead of cheese spread at lunch or dinners a chicken or Turkey stir fry or fajitas but without the wraps I use lettuce leaves

Out for a day with husband today so will just make sensible choice without restricting too much.

dottyhenson · 13/09/2023 06:38

Morning everyone,

Sorry I've been a bit MIA. Work has been beyond busy & husband ended up admitted to hospital yesterday. He has an infection following emergency surgery the week before. So dinner choices yesterday were from a vending machine!

I have a meeting in Starbucks at 8am this morning so will be starting my day with a very large latte! It was a late night.

Hoping for a calmer day today!

OP posts:
Chunkymonkee · 13/09/2023 06:56

@dottyhenson that sounds really rough and I hope everyone is ok? I think you just have to ‘get through’ days like that and regroup and move on afterwards. Which is always hard when you’re tired. I hope today is better for you x

Snipples · 13/09/2023 21:15

Sorry to hear about your husband @dottyhenson - hope you're ok.

I'm a bit on and off with the diet now. I've been eating well since mid July now and just a bit bored of it. Especially now the weather is turning and I just want stews and casseroles.

I've got a black tie dinner coming up at the end of the month so that will be good motivation for staying on track. Hopefully.

dottyhenson · 13/09/2023 22:00

Thanks everyone, husband is still in hospital but is fine- just bored! I am normally pretty good juggling everything as he works away a lot but everything happened so quickly this week it threw me a bit. Hoping we're all back to normal by the weekend.

OP posts:
Chunkymonkee · 13/09/2023 22:14

@dottyhenson Im glad your husband and you are doing 👌

I went for a different approach today and it kind of worked as I’d nothing in!

B: choc protein pud+ banana
L: crab sticks, strawberry protein pud+ plums
D: sardines + white bread, passion fruit protein yog
S: beef jerky

mfp puts is at 1196 and I think I would have been happy. But then I remembered I also had a handful of peanuts 🤦🏻‍♀️ so 1356…..

learned me lesson for today. No peanuts!

Fran92 · 14/09/2023 16:53

I made sensible choices yesterday but then had a lovely dessert out. Back on it today but starting to lack the motivation now so need to find that again. I’m always better if I don’t have an off day!

dottyhenson · 14/09/2023 20:35

Think I'm down 1 1/2lbs this week- must be the stress as good choices not been great!

B- skinny latte
L (another) latte, homemade vegetable sausage roll (naice vegan cafe- 3 men I was having lunch with had massive baguettes!)
D- asparagus, olive & tomato pasta

Lots of peppermint tea.

Would it be helpful or motivating for us to have a 'weigh in' day? Never done one of these threads before so just trying to find my way.

Husband still in hospital, but is mostly fine- getting pumped full of antibiotics. Work still crazy. Really, really looking forward to the weekend.

How's everyone else doing?

OP posts:
dottyhenson · 15/09/2023 20:35

Happy weekend everyone 😊

Who is still hanging in there? Okay food today:

L- sweet potato and tofu stew (small portion leftovers)
D- cheesy beans on toast

Waiting to pick my daughter up from sport and then will be having 2 glasses of wine. Can't wait.

MFP puts that at nearly 1,400 so am happy with that.

CW 11st 1.2lbs- looking forward to getting below 10- hopefully by end of next week 🤞

How are the rest of you doing?

honeyytoast · 16/09/2023 06:14

Hi! I’m 5’9 too and started about a month ago, not sure what I weighed but would have been around 11.5 stone.

I’m now at 10st 8, which is my lowest weight (I’ve been here once before, a few years ago, as the result of a serious disordered restrictive diet which funnily enough was much harder). I think I want to be around 9.5 - probably 10 stone ideally.

dottyhenson · 16/09/2023 07:06

Morning @honeyytoast lovely to have you with us 😊 We've got almost the same goals & stats so that's fab- we can keep each other going.

I am dropping a child at sport so am taking the opportunity for an early morning C25K. Then going for a walk with a friend later this morning. Whole new me!

Have a lovely Saturday everyone.

tendreams · 16/09/2023 09:19

Hi can I join? I tend to have an all or nothing approach, which unsurprisingly fails on about day 3!

I'm 5'10, and currently 11 stone 2 or 3. Having always been slim and about 9.5 stone although more like 10 and a bit following my last child. Weight has steadily crept up over the last 5 years.

Looking to get to about 10 stone. Not sure how yet - just making better choices in the first instance?! At the moment I work from and graze on crisps, breadsticks, crackers and cheese and biscuits almost constantly. Would like to stop the snacking, reduce carbs, and will contemplate 16:8, but haven't the patience or the time for calorie counting.

Having run my first 10km towards the end of last year I have spectacularly fallen off the exercise wheel but would like to get back on with 3 good walks a week and I'd like to find a gym to do some weight lifting.

46years old and need to make some positive changes. Having always been slim I now find myself the slightly chubby one in my friend group and it's hugely affecting my confidence and self esteem which is a little pathetic!

dottyhenson · 16/09/2023 17:06

Hi @tendreams 👋 you are very welcome to join us. So much of what you have resonates with me. Especially about it affecting your self confidence- not pathetic at all. I love clothes, and have found myself being very careful about what I wear over the last couple of years because I don't like how things look anymore, after years of being slim and wearing what I liked. But because you're not over weight it's not the sort of thing I can mention in real life- as people think I'm being daft!

Anyway, although I've only lost about 5lbs so far, I can already see the difference- particularly in jeans. Feel better already. Now just need to keep going & remember this feeling!

Pretty good good day here- for a Sunday! This is usually my really hungry/ snacky day but resisted so far.

B- 2 small slices whole meal toast with Camembert spread (IYKYK)
L- mushroom omelette with green salad
D- roast asparagus & tomato risotto & 2 veggie sausages

Everyone else having ice lollies for dessert but having having a cup of 'salted caramel biscuit' flavoured tea- found in Aldi- not unpleasant!

Husband got home from the hospital today so it's been a chilled out day in the house.

Hope everyone else doing okay.
