Maybe 10lbs, maybe a stone, maybe a stone and a half...

Hi,

I have 'lurked' on MM for almost 18 years and think this is the second thread I've ever started. Desperate times call for desperate measures and all that! Mostly I'm creating this as a place to hold myself accountable.

As the title says, I'm not sure how much I want to lose, but know I'm fed up looking at the same number on the scale and not making any meaningful changes.

I'm 5'9", and weigh 11st 3.6lbs, BMI 23.3. About 12 years ago, when I'd finished having my kids, I lost about 3st. I was just below 9st for a while, which in retrospect was probably a bit too slim for me, but settled at 9 1/2st and remained there for about 7 or 8 years. It crept up a bit before COVID and then up again post- COVID.

I was in my early thirties when I lost the original weight. Low carbed, but definitely not Leto- just stopped bread, pasta & potatoes, and the weight just dropped off me. Granted I had young kids & was working full time! However, I think at times I was eating very little just to maintain my weight, and I am just not interested in that anymore- I love food.

So, if you're still with me, think I'd like to get to 10 1/2st then close to 10st. In my head that sounds achievable, but every time I start being more healthy- it lasts for 10 days max and then I'm back to square 1.

I'm going to do 16:8, which I like. Don't want to low carb completely but maybe be more mindful (I enjoy double and triple carving Grin ) We eat Hello Fresh or Gousto meals each week and we are all too busy to be making different meals each night. Husband & teenagers all do their fair share of the cooking. Wine and crisps on a Friday and Saturday night are my biggest vice. I love wine but not sure it loves me anymore- makes me so tired and hungry the next day, but after a long, stressful week at work I enjoy it. I do go to the gym 4 or 5 times a week, but I'm fairly ineffectual and exercise makes me hungrier so not thinking about that too much.

Anyway, think that's more than enough. Would be lovely to get some company to keep each other going.

I'm starting tomorrow... you sound v disciplined dottyhenson - I'm hoping once I get into it it will feel easier but this first week feels like a mountain!

dottyhenson · 17/09/2023 22:21

Not disciplined at all @tendreams! But pleased that I've stuck at it for 2 weeks now- longer than my usual couple of days. Im starting notice my clothes are fitting the tiniest little bit better & am trying to hold on to that feeling.

Sending good vibes for tomorrow.

I’ve started because my wearable wardrobe is so limited and I have a bunch of beautiful dresses I cannot wear. I don’t feel that big but the scales and my clothes say otherwise.

Starting weight:
12st 6lbs - 6 September
12st - 16 September
12st 1lbs - 17 September

I’m so frustrated because yesterday I are just under 1200 calories so no reason to go up but I know if I persevere it will go in the right direction.

I ran 5k this evening (not fast) and plan to do that twice a week. I’ve been running for years but had 2 months off due to injury and it feels like I’m starting again. Twice a week I’ll do weights at home.

i really want to get under 12st and nearer the early 11st mark then I’ll set a new target. Eventually I’d like to be under 11st. I have curves boobs and bum that I love (hourglass) so not wanting to be really slim and lose my boobs but my current 34Gs are too much!

How is everyone today? @TeenLifeMum @tendreams @honeyytoast @Fran92 @Chunkymonkee @Snipples @snowlady4 @EdithStourton @Ladybug06 @Longwhiskers @ImaginingDragonz @wellingtonsandwaffles @threecupsofteaminimum @blue12345 @JollyMollyPolly @sunflowerdaisyrose @TheDuchessOfMN Just tagging everyone incase it helps to motivate you!

Pretty good food day for me- but need to try & find the energy to get back to the gym this week.

L- small portion left over roast tomato & asparagus risotto
D- cannellini bean stew with pesto bulgar wheat. I added a beetroot & feta salad & a teaspoon of humous.

Both Hello Fresh & both tasty. MFP puts me at 1300 cals so happy with that.

Think I will weigh tomorrow or Wednesday. Getting used to this slow, steady approach.

I had chilli for tea with a dollop of sour cream and some grated cheddar on top. The rest of the family had tacos 🌮 but I went without.

lunch was Skyr yoghurt, blue berries and 2 slices of beef with butter rolled up (breadless sandwich 🤷🏻‍♀️)

1072 calories and kitchen is closed. Not much walking as I had my long day with 2 hours commuting (1 hr each way).

going out for dinner tomorrow so going to have to save my calories all day. Restaurant is Italian and the menu has no calories on it so I’ve no idea what to order.

Fran92 · 19/09/2023 09:17

Thank you @dottyhenson needed the motivation! Had a day off and weighed so very surprised I’ve not gained or lost which I’m over the moon with, was back on it yesterday so will weigh and measure again now on Friday!

EdithStourton · 19/09/2023 09:33

Forgot my Monday weigh-in and forgot this morning to...
I've been eating a bit less anyway, plus once DD is back at uni DH and I are going a joint diet.

tendreams · 19/09/2023 11:21

I did what I usually do! Ate v little during the day only to eat up kids leftovers and then have my own dinner!

B: banana and apple slices with peanut butter
L: left over roast chicken and green salad
Snack(!): 2 bits of baguette, half a bowl of lentil soup, and a couple of babybell cheeses
D: cottage pie and peas

But no crisps, cake, chocolate or biscuits!

Will make Fridays my weigh in day.

Snipples · 19/09/2023 11:33

Hello hello hello

I am trying to be good still but I just find it so boring having to watch intake constantly. I'm hovering at 13.7 (need to get this back to 13.4) and then shift down a bit. Need to remind myself that I'm still 11lbs lighter than July which is great.

I might make a new goal for October/ November and December to help stay on track. Keep going everyone. You're doing great.

Snipples · 19/09/2023 11:39

So a quick calc of aiming to lose just 1lb a week which is doable would mean:

13.5 (by end of September)
13.1 (by end of October)
12.10 (by end of November) and
12.6 (by end of December)

Which would be nearly 2stone off in total since July which would be great for me.

dottyhenson · 19/09/2023 18:42

Ladies you're all doing great. @tendreams think your snack sounds fine- I love a babybel! My kids are teenagers but I still buy them for me.

@Snipples think it's really helpful to work out what you would be by end of each month losing 1lbs per week. When you look at it overall 2m tone is loads from summer to Christmas. Think I will do the same.

Today:
L- sweet potato wrap thing from Starbucks as was out and about, but resisted any drinks
D- cheesy beans on toast (my favourite comfort food- weather is wet & winters here today)

Since I've eaten dinner relatively early just need to stay away from snacking later- wish me luck 🤞

Chunkymonkee · 19/09/2023 21:21

Ahhh I’ve had a terrible couple of days. Life got too busy, I got too tired and made some poor choices.
but….I’m back now!
might try to do some planning tom and get organised again

tendreams · 19/09/2023 22:06

Day 2 for me and already not great!

B: banana and smoothie from cafe
L: lentil and bacon soup, 2 slices of cheese
Snack: bowl of (sour) blueberries
All good so far.
D: 2 sausages, salad... and a lot of cheesy nachos.

Plan was to avoid the nachos but that didn't go brilliantly. I did avoid the cupcakes though!

dottyhenson · 20/09/2023 06:31

Morning everyone

@tendreams it's all about balance!

Thanks to @Snipples I've worked out that 1lb a week from now to Christmas would a whole stone- which would be fabulous. Trying to focus on how good I would feel & how nice my clothes would look if I was a stone down for Christmas.

Need to raid the fridge for some lunch today as no leftovers to bring to work.

Have a good day everyone.

Beautifulsunflowers · 20/09/2023 07:04

I need to write this down - to check back on so I’m accountable and not fooling myself.
from Feb to July I lost a 1.4 stone. I did it as I was going on holiday. I got some nice comments from colleagues and family. I started going to the gym just doing yoga and body balance. I was low carbing.
I went from 11.9 to 10.5 and was happy!

since July it’s been creeping back on and I’m blaming the newly started hrt but actually I think it’s the carbs I’m eating plus the cakes and chocolate. Today I weigh 10.10. I’m determined to lose it again - I will not creep up and up and get uncomfortable I’m my clothes.

From today, I will eat low carb again, I’ve got up early to make a salad and will not need to grab a sandwich for lunch.
I will aim to be 10.2 by Christmas. 8lb is so do-able.
I will do this.
Thank you For this thread. Good luck to everybody trying so hard.

TeenLifeMum · 20/09/2023 10:19

Well done everyone!

I’ve made it through last night’s Italian meal with no weight change.
L - slice of beef with butter (no bread sandwich 😆) and a small piece of cheese
D - massive tomato based pasta dish and a limoncello shot

I offered to be driver and stuck to water all night. Felt like I was being a bit dull and the wine looked so nice but the positives were:

  1. I didn’t drink calories
  2. I didn’t wake up hungover
  3. my bill was £40 cheaper than my friends’ (bill splitting was wonderfully fair so I didn’t have to subsidise alcohol.)

I am currently bang on 12stone. I always find dropping down to the lower stone the hardest. I’d really like to be 11 at the start by Saturday (when we have a wedding), but that means being very strict and fitting in at least one run… looking out the window I think it’ll be a wet one.

Broodywuz · 20/09/2023 11:07

I'm a bit late to the party but mind if I join?
Sounds like you're all doing amazing.

I sound very similar to you OP, lost quite a lot of weight in my late 20's, was down to just over 9 stone which put me at a small size 10. I'm 5ft5. Weight crept back to about 10 and a half stone which i actually felt ok with but the last 6 months I've put on another stone and now 11st 7lb 😩Squeezing myself into size 12 clothes because i can't bring myself to buy bigger but realistically i'm a 14 (probably closer to 16 on top)
Would love to get back to a comfortable size 12. I love food and also can't stick to diets for any length of time, 1 week in I expect to have lost a stone then throw in the towel when i haven't! It needs to be small changes that i can stick to long term without feeling like i'm depriving myself all the time. I know I don't have a huge amount to lose compared to some but more worried that it keeps creeping on so i have to do something about it now before it gets to far.

NHS BMI calculator says i should aim to lose 8 lb so i'm going to start with this goal but i really want at least 10lb - 1stone.

dottyhenson · 20/09/2023 19:59

Hello @Beautifulsunflowers and @Broodywuz 👋

Everyone welcome here- we're just trying our best, finding some balance, losing slowly and not depriving ourselves too much. Sounds sustainable to me!

Today:
L- tomato soup & few bites of cheddar
D- mushroom miso pasta (HelloFresh)
Resisted birthday cake at my nephew's after dinner 🥳

What were everyone else's wins for the day?

OP posts:
TeenLifeMum · 20/09/2023 22:12

Well done @dottyhenson resisting the cake.

I’m finishing the day with an aero hot chocolate having eaten just under 1200 calories. Worked from home then sat at the hairdresser’s so not been very active though.

dottyhenson · 21/09/2023 08:21

Morning everyone 😊

Bang on 11st this morning- making it a slow loss of 1/2st since mid August. Totally delighted with that. Now just need to keep it up over the long weekend- as there will definitely be wine!

OP posts:
tendreams · 21/09/2023 08:26

I didn't do brilliantly (again!)

B: apple and protein yoghurt
L: lentil and bacon soup, 3 slices cheese
Snack: large handful of Doritos
D: chilli and rice

But then was working late and had 5 Nutella biscuits.

Today is another day! Definitely need to up the veg and protein but although I meal plan for the evenings for the family, I don't seem to be able to get myself together in the day!

tendreams · 22/09/2023 07:06

Morning all. Weigh in day for me after
4 days of trying not to snack on rubbish.

Yesterday was ok with not too much snacking but still can quite kick the cracker habit!

B : Banana, grapes, Greek yoghurt and flax seeds
L: ham salad
Snack- a few slices of salami with 3 water crackers
Supper- fish pie and broccoli

But weigh in was ok.

SW: 11 stone 2.5
CW: 11 stone 0,25
GW(1): 10 stone 7
GW (2): 10 stone

Onwards!

Snipples · 22/09/2023 12:50

Morning all.

Good to see you're all doing well. I've beaten my goal for September so that's good. Hoping to keep a bit of momentum up and break through this lull where I'm up and down by the same 1 or 2 lbs constantly

It is so cold atm which definitely isn't helping as I just want comfort food.

Ladybug06 · 23/09/2023 08:34

Morning! It’s good to see others making progress & more joining.
it was another 2lb loss this week for me (weighed in Thurs) which I’m pleased with especially after I had to do damage control after meals out & indulging in ice cream, chocolate & crisps! Thats a 4lb loss so far in 2 weeks

Snipples · 25/09/2023 19:08

Well done @Ladybug06 that's amazing!

Really good progress. I have 3lbs to shift to start to see 12stone on the scales again - hoping to get there by Halloween at the latest
