Maybe 10lbs, maybe a stone, maybe a stone and a half...

Hi,

I have 'lurked' on MM for almost 18 years and think this is the second thread I've ever started. Desperate times call for desperate measures and all that! Mostly I'm creating this as a place to hold myself accountable.

As the title says, I'm not sure how much I want to lose, but know I'm fed up looking at the same number on the scale and not making any meaningful changes.

I'm 5'9", and weigh 11st 3.6lbs, BMI 23.3. About 12 years ago, when I'd finished having my kids, I lost about 3st. I was just below 9st for a while, which in retrospect was probably a bit too slim for me, but settled at 9 1/2st and remained there for about 7 or 8 years. It crept up a bit before COVID and then up again post- COVID.

I was in my early thirties when I lost the original weight. Low carbed, but definitely not Leto- just stopped bread, pasta & potatoes, and the weight just dropped off me. Granted I had young kids & was working full time! However, I think at times I was eating very little just to maintain my weight, and I am just not interested in that anymore- I love food.

So, if you're still with me, think I'd like to get to 10 1/2st then close to 10st. In my head that sounds achievable, but every time I start being more healthy- it lasts for 10 days max and then I'm back to square 1.

I'm going to do 16:8, which I like. Don't want to low carb completely but maybe be more mindful (I enjoy double and triple carving Grin ) We eat Hello Fresh or Gousto meals each week and we are all too busy to be making different meals each night. Husband & teenagers all do their fair share of the cooking. Wine and crisps on a Friday and Saturday night are my biggest vice. I love wine but not sure it loves me anymore- makes me so tired and hungry the next day, but after a long, stressful week at work I enjoy it. I do go to the gym 4 or 5 times a week, but I'm fairly ineffectual and exercise makes me hungrier so not thinking about that too much.

Anyway, think that's more than enough. Would be lovely to get some company to keep each other going.

@Snipples I'm 13'8 today too, and my current goal is 12 stone, which was my pre-pregnancy weight! I'm tall with an hourglass shape , so 12 stone will make me a size 12 on top, and a slim 14 on the bottom.

I did manage to get to 11'1 for my wedding, but not sure I'll see that weight again!

What are you doing to lose weight?

Snipples · 07/09/2023 21:59

I've gotten in to a daily weighing habit as i joined noom and that's what they recommend. It is good as you can keep a closer eye on things but annoying as you can fluctuate throughout the week so that can be frustrating.

Anywhoo - I am just trying to eat more healthily to keep in a calorie deficit but not going too crazy or I feel deprived and then give up.

One thing that's been working for me is keeping breakfast to about 200cals and lunch a max of 400 which means I can have a decent dinner. And trying to keep my water levels high.

Hi, I came across this thread & would love to join in for motivation & fun! I’m a junk food lover so hoping to improve some bad habits & get back to my pre-pregnancy weight by the end of the year.

SW - 10.6
GW - 9st

threecupsofteaminimum · 07/09/2023 22:05

Can I join in please! I'm exactly the same just shorter! 10lb makes such a difference in how I look and all I've done is comfort eat bread and cheese or pate this past week cos life has been a bit rubbish.

Chunkymonkee · 07/09/2023 23:01

Today was ok but I didn’t measure anything so now I’m wondering if what I have put into MFP is accurate?! Lesson learned I’ll measure tomorrow. Sometimes it just gets a bit hectic around here and before I know it I’ve eaten something 😂
B: banana + Everest pud
L: chicken and mayo sandwich, 2x Polish sausages, bag on Nik Naks, yog + tangerines
D: bolognaise but with Spinach instead of spaghetti ( trying to recoup the Nik Naks and sausage! )
MFP puts today at 1642 which is higher than I would have wanted. Think I’m aiming for 1400? 🤷🏻‍♀️ but better than it could have been

dottyhenson · 08/09/2023 06:38

Welcome @threecupsofteaminimum @Ladybug06 delighted to have you with us 😊

@Snipples I'm also a daily weigher but then I don't weigh over the weekend and that's when I hit the snacks and wine! It's a vicious circle. Think if I had a few changes on the scale then I'd be happy to weigh weekly instead.

Thank goodness it's Friday! Have a great day everyone.

@Chunkymonkee I never weigh anything- life is too short. Because I use a lot of Hello Fresh- the calories are calculated for you so that keeps me right.

Morning all. I've had 2 cups of tea and porridge with a drop of oat milk and a tsp of honey for breakfast. Yesterday I'd had 3 slices of buttery toast and cheese toastie by now. Halo

I'm 63.5kg aiming for 58kg.

dottyhenson · 08/09/2023 20:12

How has everyone's day been?

Mine has been okay food wise- probably still too carby as the husband made spaghetti for dinner, but I had half my usual and added a salad. I've still stuck to 2 meals and no stacks so seems to be working.

Now sat on the sofa with a G&T- bliss. I will allow myself wine tomorrow. Problem with wine is if I open the bottle 9/10 I'll finish it 🙈 but more than happy to just have 1 G&T.

Also manages quick gym session after work, so feeling pretty virtuous for a Friday.

Weighed today and shifted 2lbs so upping the water is helping. Not convinced one of them won't be back on tomorrow as it's been a fairly pasta heavy day (while still under calories). If I eat carbs I lose and gain the same 2lbs over and over.

Chunkymonkee · 08/09/2023 22:38

It was ok today I think, I was really busy and that always helps!

B: Everest pud and banana
L: layered crab and spinach
D: salmon fillet, cauliflower, 3x chicken goujons, one plum, one nectarine and one punnet of grapes

MFP is putting this all at 1382 which is great. I haven’t felt hungry.

honestly I’ve seen loads of these threads crop up over the years and never really understood what folk got out of them. But the simple thought of having to write down what I’ve eaten is helping to keep me on the straight and narrow ……albeit for 3 days ( but that’s 3 days more than I had been!!)

dottyhenson · 09/09/2023 15:05

How is everyone's Saturday going?

Early start here for various sports competitions for the kids. I managed to squeeze a quick C25K in too. Lunch out but I had a very delicious goat's cheese salad while everyone around me had pizza & burgers 😇 Definitely deserve wine tonight after that!

Seriously though, finding posting here really useful & supportive, so will keep blethering away.

Hope everyone else having a good day.

Hi @ddottyhenson and everyone!
My Saturday is ok so far, I was working- and I made myself walk there an back to get my walk in rather than having to do it when I get home.
Food wise, so far so good today. Fruit, yogurt, porridge for breakfast. Tuna salad and pitta bread for lunch. Plus a couple of snacks.
The evening is where it can go wrong for me.. but I have eaten about 900 calories so far, so room for a nice tea- and planning to keep it alcohol free this weekend so that should help!
How's everyone else managing today?

snowlady4 · 09/09/2023 21:03

Ok failed at the alcohol free side of it... but overall not terrible!

wellingtonsandwaffles · 09/09/2023 21:03

Not a great day food wise mainly due to lack of planning. Ended up staying out so got a packaged sandwich, then solero, then helped my son finish his cake 🤦‍♀️ Nice fish chowder for tea but quite rich. No huge portions but not the healthy stuff I’ve been eating this week!

wellingtonsandwaffles · 09/09/2023 21:05

I’m impressed how so many of you are able to accurately track calories, I’m useless at that, no idea of size of things, or cant be bothered to list all the ingredients that go into things!

Fran92 · 10/09/2023 06:59

Today is a new day!

yesterday wasn’t great for me, poor planning same as @wellingtonsandwaffles I ended up on around 1700 which is high for me but I didn’t blow it like I normally would do dust myself off and better planning today.

Its weekend lunch’s when out and about, not great choices!

dottyhenson · 10/09/2023 11:42

Morning everyone 👋

Having a very lazy day today after a busy Saturday. Husband made me tea & toast in bed this morning so not the best start!

I'm making chilli for later. Will do a home work out too at some point (when I get off the sofa 😬).

How is everyone else getting on?

OP posts:
Chunkymonkee · 10/09/2023 12:03

Had an odd one yesterday: loads of kids activities meant I didn’t get chance to eat until later on and then I just tried to raid what was healthy before we had out bbq, so some very random food choices coming up!!!

B:
L: beef jerky, brown shrimp, tin of sardines, cherry toms
D: chicken, steak, salad, coleslaw, bread roll, strawberries, double cream

I'm pleased I’ve managed to stay off the sugary carbs but maybe a bit more planning would lead to a bit more balance!!!!!

Snipples · 10/09/2023 12:34

Hello just checking in.

As expected one pound back on 🙄 but again this will just be water weight as I haven't eaten enough calories for a true gain. So hard to avoid salty delicious food that makes me hold on to water!

Anyway, wishing you all a good Sunday and healthy start to the week

Longwhiskers · 10/09/2023 20:14

Had lost a couple of pounds by Friday morning which was a welcome sight! I don’t weight myself on the weekends. Been ok - quite a lot of activity and lots of food! Eg made an apple and blackberry crumble but we did do a decent walk to go and get the blackberries! I’m not going to weigh tomorrow but will check in Tuesday.

Chunkymonkee · 10/09/2023 22:16

Bit of a busy one again but I’m finding this better I think!
B: banana
L: 2x fried egg 2x hot dog buns
D: tuna and tomato salad, half a cheeseburger, two plums
snack: strawberries + cream

MFP puts it at 1700. I don’t think I ate loads but on reflection looking at it written down prob not the best choices!

I need to plan is what I’ve taken away from this

ImaginingDragonz · 10/09/2023 22:18

I'd like to join. I've lost 3 stone and would like to lose another 1-1.5. I'm 5ft 8 and currently a size 14 but want to be a comfortable 12.

SW 15 stone
CW 11 stone 10
1st GW 11 stone 7
2nd GW <11stone
Ultimate GW 10 stone 7

Just doing calorie counting and lots of dog walks. Also aiming to do weight lifting.

EdithStourton · 10/09/2023 22:25

Can I join? I need to shift between 8lb and a stone.
Current weight: 10st 12lb
Target weight: Between 9st 12 (v slim for me, not skeletal but nothing spare) and 10st 4.

I need to cut out alcohol during the week, and stop eating cakes and chocolate.

I weigh myself on Monday mornings.

Good luck to everyone else.

Longwhiskers · 11/09/2023 07:32

Plan for today: Greek yoghurt with blackberries, for lunch avocado on toast and cherry tomatoes, dinner has to be something using cauliflower.
