Hi all,

As the last thread is filling up I thought I'd start a new one so we don't get lost.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/4788207-im-starting-saxenda-this-week

This is the follow up from "I'm starting Saxenda this week" I'm personally journaling my way to a hopefully healthier and happier life. I'm journaling what I'm eating, the weight I'm losing (and gaining) and trying to see the positives outweigh the negatives on a daily basis. I'm joined on this thread and journey by many amazing women who are all very supportive and who are also sharing as much or as little as they like.

I'm finding I'm opening this thread instead of opening the cupboards, the fridge and the food delivery app on my phone and feeling less in my struggles and frustration and writing about my days makes me realize my life isn't all bad.

I'm thankful for all the voices in this thread and feel supported by the sisterhood of women from all over facing the same body struggles as I am.

I post some pictures and photos and I really like it when others do too.

If you're new please join us if you want to and let us know how you're getting on with your Saxenda journey. Come here for compliments when you deserve them and commiseration when you need some. You're welcome whatever your age, wherever you are and if you have 1kg or 10 stone to loose.

I've been on Saxenda for 10 weeks and lost 9.2kg (1st 6.2lbs) so far. I started at over 96kg and am now 87 and a bit. I have at least another 20kg to go to be happy with how I look - but knowing that the Saxenda sisterhood is here makes the journey seem less intimidating.

Scottishlanza · 02/10/2023 19:24

@ThisMustBeMyDream hope asda get some soon

NorseKiwi · 02/10/2023 20:34

Thanks for replying @ThisMustBeMyDream its good to hear you havent had too many side effects, its the nausea idea that put me off tbh. In the end I went for phentermine (Duromine). It seemed like it would have the least side effects on every day life. I have a month supply, then I go back and get checked out BP, weight etc and I can have it for up to 3 months. Even the pharmacist said to me that its basically speed and it's an old fashioned drug and the others are more effective. I'll switch to Saxenda in the next 2-3 months I expect. I would love a 3 stone weight loss!

Saxendastarter · 03/10/2023 14:26

Hi all!

I hope everyone is well and happy ... I've been away for a while and will be for another couple of weeks I reckon... I'm on the last straight for work and have other stuff going on too (nothing bad). I'm still reading though and thinking of you often.

Week 22, 14st 1, 2lb loss this week. 2st 12 over all. I've attached my little graph which pleases me! Bmi is now 35.8 from over 43. This pleases me no end!

So I'm still plodding on. 1-2lb a week losses. Still managing to get 1 pen at a time. Frustrating, but it is working so I don't want to switch. Is anyone else still on sax?

NorseKiwi · 10/10/2023 10:49

well I opted to get one of the other tablets available from the GP. Its good in that it takes away my appetite, I tend to get hungry for meals and then once I have eaten I go back to feeling nothing again - I dont feel like sugar or alcohol which is so unusual. There are some people who arent particularly bothered about food and forget to eat, its nice to be in their shoes and not feel that fussed. I am always looking forward to nice meals!

I can only take these tablets for up to 3 months, then I'll have to switch to something else, which will be saxenda if I can get past the nausea!

I am loving your steady losses @ThisMustBeMyDream

KatGirl007 · 12/10/2023 15:35

Hi @NorseKiwi you are doing the right thing, working with your GP as you go along with your choice of meds to take. Let me know how the phentermine is working. I started on Saxenda for 2 weeks then switched to Wegovy. I have not had any issues with both and I believe it is because I am drinking the right amount of water, not skipping meals, getting protein in, taking vitamins and electrolytes. I think when people go without eating they set themselves up for side effects. Even when I am not hungry I will drink a Atkins plus protein drink with fiber. My doctor said it is so important to do these things on any medication. I try to eat small plates of food.

justsaxy ·Yoga classes and a nice swim. That sound so awesome to me. You are so blessed. I just started attacking my pickles in the fridge. They do help me if I ever want something to snack on.

ThisMustBeMyDream I know how you feel. It sad we have to stress over these pens. That doesn't help with losing weight. I had an online talk with my doctor yesterday and asked her to put the prescriptions in earlier because it takes 3 days for the pharmacists to get it in which will mess up me taking my pen on time. So I will see how it working on this next go round.

Everdecreasingcircumferences Life does have a way of throwing things are way. I hope all gets better on your child's school situation. My son just had his first accident. He is fine. The car (which I am paying for) had to go into the shop. But I am just happy he is fine. It stressed me out so that I had a brownie at lunch that at a book signing. But luckily I recovered and only ate a small plate that evening. I logged it in and stayed within my calorie range.

So mindful vs. mindless eating. Working on the mindful eating. Questioning my reason for eating food just because it is there.

I hope everyone is enjoying the Fall weather.

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 12/10/2023 16:53

Hi All

Thanks @KatGirl007 , things are still rumbling on, I'm looking forward to half term term next week so I can escape it all for a bit (not going anywhere as skint, but at least won't be getting any calls from school).

I'm still hanging on to the most recent weight gain and am not feeling any different since going up to 1.7 wegovy. I am so glad I didn't have to spend months on the lower doses wasting money. I dont have any side effects whatsoever, also no appetite suppression or reduction in cravings. I am aware the cravings are probably linked to dopamine chasing so appetite reduction wouldn't necessarily make a difference, will try 1.7 for another month in case it starts kicking in over time. Just need pay day to come around as I still haven't started paying off the credit card I used to purchase the jabs...

I hope you are all doing considerably better with your weightloss than I am!

Glorfindels · 14/10/2023 17:06

Just a quick check in to keep accountable. I am 2 weeks behind, not sure where the last fortnight has gone.

Start Weight:- 129.27kg
Weight this week:- 97.14kg
(W/E 13.10.2023) Weekly loss:- 0.82kg
Total loss:- 32.13kg

Fail this week has been the Halloween sweets that I bought, and now need to replace....can't resist a haribo!

Target this week is at least 2lbs off, then the next stone bracket is in sight.

This week is my last Saxenda pen, then on to Wegovy, which i am hoping works just as well.

Best wishes to everyone, and will have a better catch-up in the week.

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 15/10/2023 12:35

Hi everyone, I thought I'd pop back in. I haven't posted since the last thread.

My Juniper (in Australia) had shortages of Saxenda and I had to reduce the levels I was taking, and then they offered me Ozempic.

Well I had to start the levels again, and had no quietening of 'food noise' until I built up to 1 mg.

However I was feeling bloated, which I put down to the slower digestive system. After some discomfort and what I initially thought was heartburn (but gaviscon didn't help) I took a break for a couple of weeks.

I then had a massive gallbladder attack. It was so severe that an ambulance was almost called for me. It lasted about 45 minutes until it passed.

Looking it up this is apparently a known side effect of sudden weight loss, and especially from Saxenda/Ozempic use.

So I had to stop completely as I couldn't risk more gallstones.

One of the triggers for me was feeling 'over full' and the slow digestive system would often make me feel over full with a proper meal.

I guess the main problem was that I didn't ALSO follow a strict calorie controlled diet and was mainly relying on reduced appetite which was hit and miss as ie as still having sugar cravings.

So please make sure you are following a decent eating plan while taking Saxenda, and if you are having what you think is heartburn please have it checked out in case it's the gallbladder.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 16/10/2023 08:15

@OrderOfTheKookaburra that sounds awful, I'm sorry to hear you've had such awful effects. I have read of a couple of others with the same problem which is always a worry at the back of the mind.

@Glorfindels I've been the same with the Halloween treats! Got them 2 weeks ago, and have eaten my way through the bag of moaom mix! On the other side, I'd have eaten that in one sitting previously! I've beenxable to take 3 little things out and be satisfied with those as opposed to eating the lot, so I'm taking it as a win! 🙈

Week 23 here. And I've made it! 2lb loss again this week which hits me my 3 stone mark AND in to the 13's!!! 13st 13 today. Bloody chuffed. My lowest weight in 5 years was in 2020 and that was 13st 10. So soon I'll be the slimmest I've been since 2018. And I'm now over half way to my goal weight making it seem so much closer than it did! I'm just so chuffing happy. Despite living in an absolute building site currently! Ordinarily that would totally lead to comfort eating. Not this time though!!

Scottishlanza · 19/10/2023 23:08

Down to my last few days supply, anyone know of any stock open to new customers?

genesis92 · 23/10/2023 12:51

Hi all. First time posting on this thread, but after some advice.

Been on saxenda for about a month now. I upped my dose to 1.8 (I only up the dose when I feel the current one isn't as effective anymore). However the fatigue I'm feeling is just unbearable. I have a 6 month old, so I'm already prone to being tired. This is just another level though. I really don't want to give in, but I genuinely can't carry on feeling like this.

Did anyone else experience this, and how long did it take for it to go away?

Thanks in advance

ThisMustBeMyDream · 30/10/2023 20:04

Anyone here still? Still just about getting sax from Boots. Still working well. Am on 2.4.
Week 24: I forgot to update last week, but it was a maintain.
Week 25 was a 2lb loss. I'm now 13st 11, down from 16st 13. 3st 2 loss in total.

Keeping on plodding 😊. Still not requiring much effort. No side effects. No exercise. Will start to exercise soon. I hate it. So will take a lot for me to do it!

Footgoose · 30/10/2023 22:36

@ThisMustBeMyDream . Hi I’m still reading. Good to see your update. I hate exercise too but thankfully I find I’m losing / maintaining whether I go to the gym or not . All the best . X

NorseKiwi · 30/10/2023 23:12

Well I lost 3kg in 4 weeks taking an appetite suppressant via my GP. I have asked to switch to Saxenda, so I'll start that tomorrow, the nurse will show me how to inject myself.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 30/10/2023 23:15

I feel like I should exercise... I think long term when I come off sax it will help. But my god I despise it! I'm over half way to my target now, so I really do need to start thinking about the end game.
I'm still living in chaos (no bathroom and on day 10 now!) and not turning to food for comfort. Major win here!

Bobsgettingitdone · 30/10/2023 23:33

Hi ! New here - and on day 10 of Saxenda.
Was experiencing nausea with morning injections, so switched to night and so far I think it's better? Poss too early to say?
10kg to lose - and only lost 1kg so far, despite eating very little. Praying this works. Menopause weight is a killer to shift.

Did anyone else change to nights to combat nausea?

Anyone suffering fatigue? Tips?

53 yo female - New Zealand.
175cm
80.2 kg
Goal 70kg - ish.

Wishing everyone a fab week. 🤗💞🙏🏼

ThisMustBeMyDream · 31/10/2023 00:01

I've always done mine at night. Last thing before I go go bed.

Bobsgettingitdone · 31/10/2023 00:07

@ThisMustBeMyDream Thanks for the reply. Hopefully nights continue to help with nausea. 🌸

@genesis92 Is your fatigue improving? I am also finding I'm very tired all the time. Hoping it goes away. 🙏🏼

Scottishlanza · 31/10/2023 09:13

Well, I’m on my last dose of saxenda today and no one has any stock so I’m on my own. I’ve been sticking to 0.6 so going to Wegovy is going to be much more expensive and I’m scared of the side effects if you take a weeks worth at once. I’m usually prone to side effects from medication in general so having hardly any from saxenda has been a real positive.
Anyone know of any stock, if not I’m gunna go it alone a while , wish me luck cos I’m gunna need it

NorseKiwi · 31/10/2023 09:56

I am going to post my vital stats to keep myself accountable
