Hi all,

As the last thread is filling up I thought I'd start a new one so we don't get lost.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/4788207-im-starting-saxenda-this-week

This is the follow up from "I'm starting Saxenda this week" I'm personally journaling my way to a hopefully healthier and happier life. I'm journaling what I'm eating, the weight I'm losing (and gaining) and trying to see the positives outweigh the negatives on a daily basis. I'm joined on this thread and journey by many amazing women who are all very supportive and who are also sharing as much or as little as they like.

I'm finding I'm opening this thread instead of opening the cupboards, the fridge and the food delivery app on my phone and feeling less in my struggles and frustration and writing about my days makes me realize my life isn't all bad.

I'm thankful for all the voices in this thread and feel supported by the sisterhood of women from all over facing the same body struggles as I am.

I post some pictures and photos and I really like it when others do too.

If you're new please join us if you want to and let us know how you're getting on with your Saxenda journey. Come here for compliments when you deserve them and commiseration when you need some. You're welcome whatever your age, wherever you are and if you have 1kg or 10 stone to loose.

I've been on Saxenda for 10 weeks and lost 9.2kg (1st 6.2lbs) so far. I started at over 96kg and am now 87 and a bit. I have at least another 20kg to go to be happy with how I look - but knowing that the Saxenda sisterhood is here makes the journey seem less intimidating.

@Saxendastarter Your holiday looks fantastic, and the food sounds amazing. That coast line is stunning & no wonder your legs are feeling it- they look challenging walks.

@justsaxy Love the colour of that dress, nice clothes are a brilliant motivator. I have a coat which I would love to wear this winter, but at the moment doesn't even meet across the boobs.

@BinnityBoo I am sorry about the house sale- so stressful. Sending you best wishes.

@WhiteNumen Could you consider a different injection site. I struggle injecting into my thigh- but stomach no problem.

@Radish12 Fingers crossed you get a supply.

@Sotiredmjmmy Glad you got some pens- sounds like upping the dose is a good plan- you may only need a couple of clicks.

My god this week feels long- how is it only Wednesday. It is cold, wet and miserable here.

Low mood & I am massively craving sugar, which I am really struggling with, but this could all be as I'm due on next week.

Moan over & on a positive - When I sit at my desk I can now comfortably sit with my legs crossed, so I checked my measurements and have lost 4cm off my thigh (Not that I will be getting a thigh gap any time soon!)

Hi all - hope you don't mind me jumping in here!

I started around 8 weeks ago and was tolerating the drug well. I didn't have many side effects and I've lost 8 lbs so far which was pleased with (I have PCOS and really struggle to lose weight).

I ran out on Friday of last week and couldn't get another prescription as Boots was out of stock. On Saturday afternoon I had sudden very intense stomach pain high up just under my ribs that extended through to my back. It lasted a few hours then stopped.

I was able to order more from Boots and started off at 0.6 last night. Within an hour the stomach pain returned and I literally sat up in agony all night last night. When I lay down the pain was worse so I sat rocking leaning forward all night in tears. Had my 1 year old baby not been sound asleep, I would have went to A&E it was that bad.

At around 6.30 am this morning the pain went away but I've been tender all day, and felt nauseous. No yellow skin or eyes or anything.

I'm going to make an appointment with my GP tomorrow morning and I've not taken anymore of the drug. If the pain returns before tomorrow morning, I will go to A&E.

Had anyone experienced these same symptoms? The pain in my stomach was so intense and constant. It didn't come and go and it felt like my muscles where stuck and strained (probably a useless description!). The pain very clearly went right through to my back. I said to my husband during the night that it was like I had a metal rod stuck through me coming in once through the front but going out the back twice.

I'm so annoyed with myself that I've potentially done this to myself by taking this drug, and I'm also disappointed as it was working and it was so nice not to be hungry all the time.

Thanks for reading!

Footgoose · 27/07/2023 06:44

Morning @MimiArm . You have just described gall bladder stone pain to a tee . Hopefully you will get an appointment with your GP and a scan to confirm as I’m not a Doctor. I had Gall Bladder episodes for years just like you have described before eventually having it removed.

Saxendastarter · 27/07/2023 07:29

Hi @MimiArm unfortunately I think @Footgoose is spot on - that sounds like gall bladder stones. I hope you get a doctors appointment soon and that you mange to get it sorted out. Also that although you have to stop taking Saxenda that your weight loss journey will continue. Take care and keep us posted on how things go. Good luck.

Morning @Saxendastarter . Loving your pictures. It’s the reason I look first thing before work . Had a busy week . Going to be a slightly stressful end to the week also which I’m just bracing myself for . Stay focused on the next task in front and no more .
I hope you have a great day walking . It all looks and sounds so good for the soul .

Saxendastarter · 27/07/2023 07:35

@Glorfindels I hope the week gets better for you. 4cm off your thighs is amazing! Thigh gaps are over rated - sitting cross legged is where it’s at!

Hello to all - I hope you’re having a decent week and are looking forward to the weekend!

ThisMustBeMyDream · 27/07/2023 11:00

Sorry to be MIA. It's been an awful few days. We came away to visit family on Saturday, 200 miles from home. Monday I started with a tooth abscess which culminated with a middle of the night taxi journey to a&e for pain relief (as my PR volterol wasn't cutting it) and yesterday an emergency dentist visit where they drilled down in to the tooth to release the pus as they couldn't get it out with lancing it. That was yesterday evening, when I got home I was vomiting absolutely everything up, the effects of all the medication and the pain had just overwhelmed my body.
Anyway, today I am feeling much better. Jaw aches, tooth is irritating my tongue and cheek as it is sharp. But I'm not in agony and not vomiting. So determined to not ruin the holiday, we have come as planned to Chessington today 🫣🥴.
On the plus side, I've lost 3lb whilst away, taking me to 15st 1.5. Come on 14s! I can see you on the horizon!!
Hope everyone is having a more successful week than me 😬.

Saxendastarter · 27/07/2023 17:47

Hi @ThisMustBeMyDream I’m so sorry you’re having a rough time. Congrats on the continued losses though. I hope you enjoy chessington.

So far today 18.9km walked which is 11.5 miles.

We’re in Comillas this evening and I’m at a launderette near the beach as I managed to smash my wash bag in my bag and cover all my things in sun cream and soap!

Ive found a chamber music concert this evening that I’m looking forward to and will food diary before bed!

The weather is still grey and overcast though …

@Saxendastarter What a beautiful looking town, enjoy your concert. Holiday washing is always the pits!

@ThisMustBeMyDream Toothache is just horrible, I had the same as you last month - Orajel & Co-codmol was just about soothing the pain. Congrats on the loss.

@Footgoose Hope you have got through the day okay & stress minimised.

Saxendastarter · 27/07/2023 22:42

Hi all!

just found out that had I waited until tomorrow a full washing load and dry is included at the next hotel 🤦🏼‍♀️… went to see a gaudí house after the launderette and then to see a concert. This holiday is doing me so much good - the group is really great apart from the know it all lady who is just so complicated ( won’t drink tea unless it’s loose because tea in sachets is the devil incarnated because the sachets are bleached - one example out of many …). I have a crush on one of the ladies ( the EU commission lawyer in her late 50’s - she looks 15 years younger at least and has the most amazing skin - the architect who’s in his early 70’s and a much better walker than me and so much fun must have noticed my crush because yesterday when I went to get a drink at a random bar in the evening he was also there and he told me that if he was 20 years younger or if I was 20 years older we’d both have had a chance but that given the conjecture we just had to channel the energy of the completative monestaries and convents we’ve been walking past and learn to live with the beautiful lady in peace and take as much pleasure as we could from simply admiring her - that made me smile.)

The banker and his wife are hilarious and they are so kind and nice to each other after 40 years of marriage - they’ve offered to drive me back to Paris when we leave so I’m planning on asking them the secret for such enduring love. The architect is great because he explains the buildings we walk past and when they were built etc but without being a bore. The lawyer lady is just beautiful to watch … she has much better hiking dresses than me and has amazing knowledge of Spanish history and every local alcohol about ( she is Spanish and was born in Santiago de Compostella ). The know it all lady is boring and quite agressive but drowned out by the others. The guide is kind and quiet.

I finally managed to go this evening before my concert but only because FPOTM had ( although I had protested !) one of his old nurse collègues call me … and let’s say she sort of talked me into it - told me to put my phone on loud speaker and to mute the microphone and she’d talk to me… I was dubious but it worked …. I called her back to say Thankyou and she told me there was a reason she’s known as the “poo fairy” for Paris peadiatrics - she does anticonstipation hypnotherapy- she’s said she send me a couple of links - I’ll post them here once I get them!

Tomorrow we walk again!

Evening All
Been away with the kids for a few days, bit of booze and food on the hop so inevitable weight gain - haven't had chance to read all the posts I've missed. Have been on 3.0 since Monday (started sax on 19th June) am injecting my tummy now as no side effects at all other than being a bit tired (no bruises now as belly very soft and squidgy).
Am feeling sugar cravings again and not much appetite suppression - really hoping that's just being due on as I'll be really sad if sax turns out not to work well for me!
2 more pens left in fridge so will attempt another order from Boots as they're only lasting 6 days at this dose. Am away camping this weekend - going to try hard not to overdo food and drink as I really need to see a shift in weight and try not to slip back into old habits.

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 27/07/2023 23:04

Oh and following on from the pointless meeting with the dietitian I now have a referral with the bariatric dietitian (I've told them I neither want nor need bariatric surgery) - in January next year! I did say I dont need it as it's hunger I'm afflicted with not ignorance , and I do have access to Google, but it's the only way to remain on their books. Basically looks like it's easier to get bariatric surgery than access to lirglutide or samaglutide, just madness.

Saxendastarter · 27/07/2023 23:40

Day 97

Breakfast
Café
orange juice
Coco pops with coffee

Snack
Lemon Fanta

Lunch
Bread
Salad with asparagus and tomatoes
Cheese
Nectarine
chocolate
cheesecake
water

Snack
lemonade
full fat coca cola
gin and tonic
white wine

Supper
Gin and tonic
cheese croqueras and fried egg ( I didn’t have the group supper in a much classier restaurant because I went to the concert so found a place late after the concert to eat because I was hungry)

Looks like a lovely holiday OP 😀 , bit more cultured than my moshing to Pulp last weekend!
For a moment there I thought you'd had coffee in your cocopops (🤦‍♂️).

My weight is back to where it was pre-holiday this morning, same weight I was on 1.2 as haven't lost any more since going up to 1.8 and 2.4. Just managed to order 2 pens from Boots (they don't seem to offer 3 any more) to collect from a store half an hour's drive away - might try to order a second batch of 2 to make the hour's round trip worth while.
Am feeling determined to get these next 3 kg shifted to bring back to my pre-babies weight, need to not overdo the booze on holiday next week. Now that I'm at the therapeutic dose I'm hoping the appetite suppression really starts kicking in.

Glorfindels · 28/07/2023 12:46

Happy Friday Everyone.

@Everdecreasingcircumferences I hope you can get a couple more pens & fingers crossed a good outcome for you. The hoops you are jumping through sound so frustrating, I'm not sure I would be enthusiastic about surgery either. A good friend of mine has had it done, she has lost a lot of weight- but the physical side effects are awful, not sure it is worth it.

@Saxendastarter Beautiful photo's- living vicariously though your updates, what a delightfulsetting for a concert. Having never heard of a 'poo fairy', I think they should be more common- what a skill!

Saxendastarter · 28/07/2023 12:54

Hi everyone! Currently on a 2-week holiday in the Canary Islands on half-board basis, so pretty far away from my scale!

Trying not to eat too much or make wise choices from the buffet (high protein/fat and low carbs or at least no gluten), but it's so hard.. I did indulge on croissants with nutella this morning, but come on, I am on holiday 😜

I will be happy if I don't gain any weight, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to lose some even if my food choices are not great since I am swimming a lot and walking over 10k steps per day. The effect of 1.8 on my appetite has disappeared, so I have upped the dose slightly. Hopefully this will do the trick.

Keep going everyone!

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 28/07/2023 19:17

Oooh OP hot or cold coffee - not a combination I've tried!

@Glorfindels that's an incredible weightloss, you'll doing so well! Bariatric surgery is a lifesaver for those who need it but it's really big deal and I can't believe it's more accessible than the jabs at the moment.

Wish I was in the Canary Islands! Nutella is one of my favourite holiday treats @dontwanttostay .

Still on my first pen and 1 spare but want to be organised, anyone know of anywhere in stock?
