Hi all,

As the last thread is filling up I thought I'd start a new one so we don't get lost.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/4788207-im-starting-saxenda-this-week

This is the follow up from "I'm starting Saxenda this week" I'm personally journaling my way to a hopefully healthier and happier life. I'm journaling what I'm eating, the weight I'm losing (and gaining) and trying to see the positives outweigh the negatives on a daily basis. I'm joined on this thread and journey by many amazing women who are all very supportive and who are also sharing as much or as little as they like.

I'm finding I'm opening this thread instead of opening the cupboards, the fridge and the food delivery app on my phone and feeling less in my struggles and frustration and writing about my days makes me realize my life isn't all bad.

I'm thankful for all the voices in this thread and feel supported by the sisterhood of women from all over facing the same body struggles as I am.

I post some pictures and photos and I really like it when others do too.

If you're new please join us if you want to and let us know how you're getting on with your Saxenda journey. Come here for compliments when you deserve them and commiseration when you need some. You're welcome whatever your age, wherever you are and if you have 1kg or 10 stone to loose.

I've been on Saxenda for 10 weeks and lost 9.2kg (1st 6.2lbs) so far. I started at over 96kg and am now 87 and a bit. I have at least another 20kg to go to be happy with how I look - but knowing that the Saxenda sisterhood is here makes the journey seem less intimidating.

Hi All ,
I’ve been reading all week . So much positive news which is great to read , and I have a new word which I love DESPIDERIZING ! - was that you @justsaxy ? The post about sorting out clothes and wardrobe space was also inspiring and I did a bit of that myself this week too and found it very therapeutic .

@Saxendastarter , I would be getting a taxi too with blisters. Ouch . You are still walking considerable distances which is amazing . I loved the descriptions of your group members . It’s good you have identified “the one” bleach tea bag lady …. That means it isn’t you. 😂. sorry about your laundry. What a pain .

Great Results @Glorfindels . The next stone bracket is always a great feeling . Well done to the all , especially having to juggle holidays and food . Always a balancing act .

If you are struggling , I do wish you well . @BinnityBoo your circumstances would be breaking my heart. I moved house last year and it’s taken until now to sort myself out . I really hope you get some positive news about the move soon .

my news ? Just 1.5 lbs off my first target which is a healthy BMI . I’ve 3 ( maybe 2 I can’t remember ) left so will cross that line and then reduce my dose to taper off , hopefully reaching my second goal of cica 10 stone . I wish I could stay on saxander for ever with regard to it really helping control alcohol intake . I have e mailed a support service for advice so I hope they may get back to me . What I’m really hoping is that when my pens are finished , the wine witch won’t come back ! 😂

Day 99 (yesterday)

Breakfast
Café
orange juice
melon

Snack
nuts
dried mango
cereal Bar

Lunch
Chickpea salad* *
dried mango
sweets
cheese
cofee

Snack
coffee

Supper
fried chicken and chips
flan
wine

Yesterday was not a great day, my legs are pulsing and my feet are sore and the supper on offer was sea food and ham and a salad drenched in tuna and tuna oil… the only other thing was greasy fried chicken and chips … it really got me down.

Today is day 100 on Saxenda for me and I’ve abandoned the group for the day in Oviedo to walk less and see some museums and hopefully find some non fried, non seafood, non pork food …

Hi everyone!
Back from holiday! Absolutely exhausted 🤣. I need a holiday to get over my holiday!
Today is official weekly weigh in. There has been lots of fluctuation this week on my daily weighs. My scales also gave me 3 different weights this morning which is super unhelpful! Anyway I'm going with 15st 2 which is a 1lb loss. More than happy given I have eaten out most days this week. That puts my total loss at the start of week 12 as 25lb, or 1st 11. I'm really pleased with that over all! It gives me an average weekly loss of 2.1lb which is so much better than any previous weight loss attempts.
I even managed to get 2 more pens this morning from Boots. I'll need to get some more when I can, but that will do for now.
Hope others are managing to get stock 🤞.

Footgoose · 31/07/2023 20:12

Hi @Saxendastarter , Happy day 100 ! How funny you spent it in Poo when most of us can’t .
Hope you have found some lovely food again.

well done @ThisMustBeMyDream for losing on holiday. Not many manage that .

Hello to all , hope everyone is ok.

Saxendastarter · 01/08/2023 07:16

Pff despite the amazing views im feeling quite down - a lot of it has to do with the food choices being so shit for the last few days. My feet also hurt and I’m fed of up being over taken by the people in their 60’s. It will get better im just really really struggling with having no agency over the food and the fact we’re staying in the sticks so I can even go to a supermarket to pick up some tomatoes or whatever is really difficult for me. Lunch is just Cana and more cans of food and supper is just pork and seafood. Every fucking evening. I’ve told the guide but he appears to give no shits. The smell of the lunches and suppers just make me feel horribly sick and I just can’t cope. If things don’t get better i might skip out and go home.

I totally feel your pain @Saxendastarter - I hate having no control over what I eat and limited choices. Also I don't like canned food.

Well Rybelsus stocks have dried up at my supplier so I am going to eke out my existing supply and see what happens in the future. Luckily because I was halving my tablets I have enough to keep me going for a couple of months.

How is everyone else getting on with their suppliers? Is anyone else running low? I saw on reddit that a lot of people were struggling to get their prescriptions both here in the UK and in the USA.

MsLK14 · 01/08/2023 08:48

I’m due to finish a pen tomorrow and I have 2 left. I’m currently at 1.8 but I think I might go down to 1.2 just to try and keep them going longer. I think someone here had said that the start of the month is usually when stock comes in so I’ve set up my alerts and have my fingers crossed because my original plan was to stay on for 3 months (which takes me to mid September) so I’ll be needing at least one more pen!!!! I just don’t feel I’m quite there yet with being able to do it without the help of the pen

Zadoodle · 01/08/2023 10:20

Great group. I’m new to mumsnet and can’t work out how to post a question! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Zadoodle · 01/08/2023 10:23

Saxenda pens vary.

Has anyone else found that some of their Saxenda pens seem to work better than others?
I can find that one pen works really well in suppressing my appetite but when I start a new one it doesn’t seem to be so effective.
It’s definitely not related to hormones or activities etc and seems to purely coincide with the the start/finish of some pens.

I’d be curious to know if anyone else has experienced this. Thanks

Zadoodle · 01/08/2023 10:24

And I’ve now worked out how to post.

KPops22 · 01/08/2023 16:57

I have just ordered some Victoza which is the same thing.

Saxendastarter · 02/08/2023 18:15

Sorry all for being MIA ! I’m trying to see the good outweigh the bad all that … but having a tough few days - I’ll be back soon. I’m still walking though and I’m proud of that! 217km (134 miles ) since last Sunday so an average of 19.7km a day or 12.2 miles with a lot of up and down!

That’s a lot of walking . You are right to be proud . Great pictures . X

Footgoose · 02/08/2023 18:49

99,583km . That’s how far away it feels the sunshine is from UK right now.

Glorfindels · 02/08/2023 22:03

@Saxendastarter What a fantastic achievement, and lovely photos. Enjoy your remaining hols.

Had a bizzare old week, and had emergancy cake & wine yesterday. Back on it today, but will be amazed if I lose this week. Weight loss is never a straight journey, its like following a waze diversion, up a one way street in the dark in reverse!

Saxendastarter · 03/08/2023 07:51

Today is the last day of walking! About to set off for compostella! As it’s a pilgrims walk if you have walked at least 100km to get there ( which I have ) apparently all your sins are forgiven. I’m going to try and channel some spirituality and forgive myself for getting so far these last few years. The sign in the window says never take off your crown so a man can be taller than you. ( my Spanish is approximative though so corrections welcome)

A brilliant amount of walking OP, shame about the food and impact on your mood but well done for getting to where you are!

Camping holiday with family was rather soggy and we ended up cutting it short by one night to avoid striking the tents in rain. Came back feeling quite poorly so have been wiped out on the couch for a couple of days. On the bright side, I've had no appetite as too ill to eat - finally broken through my 4 week long plateau! Scales now start with a 94, which is 4kg less than when I started on Sax (6 weeks ago I think?) and 10kg lighter than the heaviest I've weighed this year (well, heaviest ever if you don't count the day I gave birth to my youngest).
Been arguing with Boots Online Doctor as sax takes over a week from order to being available in store, can only order 2 pens at once and they wouldn't let me order a second batch a few days later to prevent me running out. Placed another order a week later (still no delivery of previous order), which was cancelled as hadn't selected a priority store - except I had, it's the only store in the county on their list and over 40minutes drive away. Finally after more email tennis they approved my order for another 2 pens so that will last me until the bank holiday weekend.. Will need to place another order in 2 weeks - am thinking of going back down to 2.4 and seeing how I get on as going through 2 pens in 12 days when you can only order 2 at a time is not sustainable in the long term. Jabbed tummy yesterday and it really stung for the first time and I've ended up with a 3 in long bruise, clearly I did something odd. Back to normal this evening thank goodness (ie no stinging or new bruises).

Im just back in Paris ( well actually on the train to Lyon from the airport to see a friend) My plane was late so I missed my train and had to get a later one so I’m down 140 euros of missed train 🤦🏼‍♀️ !

Ill start food diary ing again on Tuesday when I’m back in Paris and back to work.

As I wrote I had a tough time with the end of the walk - but I’m glad I stuck with it to the end. I’m sorry I didn’t interact too much and haven’t kept up with how people are doing but I sort of zoned out and just concentrated on putting one foot in front of the other.

Channeling @WhiteNumen heres my list of things I’m proud of from my walk.

  1. I walked a lot - 4 months ago I never could have.
  2. When I did duck out of one of the hikes in the middle of nowhere I managed to get back to a car road - Google a local taxi company in Spanish and explain over the phone in Spanish where I was ( in the middle of nowhere in the mountains) to the taxi driver using what I could see ( a road sign saying x km to x town) a church spire in the distance with a wierd looking spire - looking north what I could see a very pointy mountain bit. Kudos also to him because he found me without getting lost… I’ve always been pretty ashamed of my crap Spanish ( in France a lot of people have decent Spanish and my sister and brother are 100% fluent with idiomatic expressions and all - they did Spanish at school but I did German and then went to boarding school in Austria and Uni in Berlin for a bit - they then both studied in South America for a bit but have both gone on to live in for at least a while in German speaking countries so they now have German that is as fluent as mine and given that I don’t have Spanish I always felt a bit « less ». ) The taxi driver told me my Spanish was absolutely fine and clear and concise even though it was hesitant and that gave me confidence to try more.
  3. Im normally very shit of taking care of myself but … I was really careful to be kind to my feet and bandage them up properly every evening when I got blisters.
  4. I religiously wore sunscreen
  5. I didn’t over do alcohol even though many evenings I wanted to
  6. When I left all of my co walkers say they were impressed by my « courage « in the uphills because they could see I was suffering.
  7. Those who have been reading for a while know that I’m in the process of changing jobs. One of the guys I was walking with was a very down to earth but funny banker ( like big banker - the CEO of one of the largest French banks) - I was pretty in awe of how down to earth and easy going he was - and he was so so so lovely to his wife too (37 years of marriage and still holding hands and inside joking and being so sweet to each other and just looking at each other with utter love). I was actually very quiet infront of him because I was just over impressed and didn’t want to say anything stupid. He asked me to have coffee with him this morning while we were all packing up and admitted that he had LinkedIn googled me after what he said were a few quick thinking remarks from my part during group conversations and that as I’d said I was leaving my current job but hadn’t found a new one we should have lunch in September in Paris because he’ll help me if I want his help and that if I slightly want to change fields he’ll do a reference and that he’d wanted to talk about it in the car back to Paris ( I was going to hitch a ride with his wife and him) but I skipped out to save time and have an extra day in Lyon by flying and getting the train!

Will do a proper update later but 2lb off this week, which I'm okay with.

@Saxendastarter some lovely things to be positive about, and you never know where a chance meeting will take you.

Sotiredmjmmy · 04/08/2023 21:11

@Everdecreasingcircumferences thats frustrating about Boots ordering with it taking so long between ordering and actually getting the pens, but at same time I’m amazed they’ve still managed to keep stock going at all, as all the other high street and mainstream online pharmacies have none. I’m with Asda and they were limiting it to only being able to order at 10am on a Tuesday (then out of stock by 10.05!) but this week they didn’t any at all, and the online pharmacy I also use have had known for good 3 weeks now. I did throw money at it a month ago and ordered from both a few times so have pens for now but have upped the dose now too so getting them quicker now

Footgoose · 05/08/2023 19:06

Hi all . Lovely update @Saxendastarter . So much to feel good about. You have such an interesting life story. It’s clear people are drawn to you .

@Glorfindels , good weight loss . I’m always pleased with a 2 pound loss . So many weeks when it dropped to just 1 , orca bit here and there , or even small rises mid week .

I have reached the first of my 2 goals . As of today and according to the NHS BMI calculator I am a healthy weight . I have 2 more pens left so I tend to start dropping my dose from 3 to wherever it is when I run out.

My stats for anyone interested.
Age 53
hight 5ft 4 ( and a bit )
start weight 13 stone ( and a bit )
today’s weight 10 stone and 8 pounds.
total weight loss 34 pounds ( and maybe a bit )
percentage of body weight lost . 18 ( and a bit ) per cent .

final goal is 10 stone but we will just have to see.

None scale news, I have bought a pair of size 12 skinny jeans and thanks to the slightly stretchy fabric , they fit!

Yesterday , I took the plunge and had quite literally a face full of botox and fillers applied . It’s not something “ someone like me “ would naturally do . I own very little make up , a life style that does not require a high end look , I spend my time at work in scrubs and time at home mostly in dog walking attire .

but , I look better ! The fillers have lifted my saggy Jowels, plumped my thin lips and softened a few lines . When the Botox kicks in I hope my the top half of my aging face looks a little less knackered too .

In feeling a little emotional today as the one thing that’s different about this weight loss / self care “journey “ was that I did it for myself . I didn’t pick the easiest time for my family but it actually didn’t matter as nothing impacted on them anyway . Saxender took so much of the stress away that no one even noticed what I was up to . I just ate less , and the dog walks just got longer and longer . And no one has missed me moaning about me knees ! I really hope one day this medication is freely available to all who need it .

Footgoose · 05/08/2023 19:11

Time on saxender to date 13 weeks and 3 days .
