Hi all,

As the last thread is filling up I thought I'd start a new one so we don't get lost.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/4788207-im-starting-saxenda-this-week

This is the follow up from "I'm starting Saxenda this week" I'm personally journaling my way to a hopefully healthier and happier life. I'm journaling what I'm eating, the weight I'm losing (and gaining) and trying to see the positives outweigh the negatives on a daily basis. I'm joined on this thread and journey by many amazing women who are all very supportive and who are also sharing as much or as little as they like.

I'm finding I'm opening this thread instead of opening the cupboards, the fridge and the food delivery app on my phone and feeling less in my struggles and frustration and writing about my days makes me realize my life isn't all bad.

I'm thankful for all the voices in this thread and feel supported by the sisterhood of women from all over facing the same body struggles as I am.

I post some pictures and photos and I really like it when others do too.

If you're new please join us if you want to and let us know how you're getting on with your Saxenda journey. Come here for compliments when you deserve them and commiseration when you need some. You're welcome whatever your age, wherever you are and if you have 1kg or 10 stone to loose.

I've been on Saxenda for 10 weeks and lost 9.2kg (1st 6.2lbs) so far. I started at over 96kg and am now 87 and a bit. I have at least another 20kg to go to be happy with how I look - but knowing that the Saxenda sisterhood is here makes the journey seem less intimidating.

Oooohhh cheesecake. I don't have a sweet tooth but this is my weakness!

Well done for everything you achieved yesterday. You rose to the challenge of day 1! Sea views look amazing.

Footgoose · 24/07/2023 10:52

Hi @WhiteNumen , good to hear your update . If you are a reader that’s fine , don’t feel pressured into an update . I had a very uncomfortable knee 3 months ago which is now entirely pain free , it has to be the weight loss . My legs are no longer puffy in the evening either and my DH commented that he saw me run up the stairs for the first time in a long time . I thought it would be impossible to get where I am . But here I am feeling much better.

( By, the way , you are a normal person 😊)

Radish12 · 24/07/2023 11:53

I enjoyed your list of positive things @WhiteNumen - I too have noticed an improvement in my jawline which I'm relieved about as I wasn't sure it would be reversible now I'm over 40.

All that walking in a dress @Saxendastarter ! Never let it be said that French women aren't chic in every situation!

I am WFH today for the first time in two weeks and workload has reduced by about 85% so I'm taking the opportunity to get some personal admin done. I have a HIIT class booked for this evening, and I'm going to walk to post a Vinted parcel shortly rather than drive, since it seems to have stopped raining (for now).

Hope everyone's having a good Monday and I look forward to seeing today's walking pictures :)

Saxendastarter · 24/07/2023 17:58

Oh sea bass sounds gorgeous.

JeandeServiette · 24/07/2023 23:47

@Radish12 have you tried saline nasal sprays? I think the big brand is called something like sterimar.

Saxendastarter · 25/07/2023 06:40

@Footgoose oh we did with quite a lot of wine !

Today we walk to Guernica !

i hope everyone has a lovely day - my thighs are on fire still!

I am on the second day of week 2 so just gone up to 1.2 and no adverse effects apart from the number on the scale reducing 😊.

I am away this weekend and it will be a boozy one so not planning on taking any injections when away. When I come back I would be due to go up a dose again. Would you wonderful people recommend staying on 1.2 for a period or still going up as planned?

Namechange602 · 25/07/2023 10:22

@freetheunicorn1 If you’re taking a few days off then I’d probably give it a couple of days at the lower dose when you get back before increasing. But 1.2 worked well for me for a few weeks before I needed to increase so I guess we all react differently.

Sotiredmjmmy · 25/07/2023 10:36

@Saxendastarter Your trip looks amazing and well done on all the walking, my legs would be burning too!!

Mixed bag of a morning for me…

It’s weigh in day and I’ve gained 0.5lbs, first time I’ve not lost anything in 10 weeks but I knew before standing on the scales. I’m still on 1.8 and not getting hungry as such but had noticed that at meal times I can eat more now than I could a few weeks ago, will up the dose now

But a positive, on the third week of trying I have managed to get an order with Asda this morning yay! I was cheeky and put 2 orders through as it’s been a few weeks since I’ve been able to get any and won’t be able to order whilst I’m away, also I normally order 5 packs and they are only selling 3 packs, but they have quite fairly cancelled the duplicate order, I am more than happy knowing that 3 pens are on the way but going to get tough if I only manage an order every 3 weeks or so…

freetheunicorn1 · 25/07/2023 11:09

@Namechange602 thanks for the advice. I think I might do that and many only increase when I need to as opposed to each week whilst stocks are low.

justsaxy · 25/07/2023 11:11

Lovely photos! My legs would be on fire too!

I am feeling so happy this morning. I threw everything in my wardrobe on the bed and am putting aside everything I no longer like. I also have a bag of things which I loved to wear but currently can't fit in to (my mum recently hung them all back up in my wardrobe 'to offer inspiration' - it didn't work and sent me into a spiral of shame instead!). So I have everything nicely organized, bags to donate to friends and for the clothes bank. Just have my trousers to do now.

I wanted to show you a beautiful dress that I bought for a wedding in 2019. It was just a bit too tight around the chest and tummy so still has the tags on. I love it so much, I would love to be able to wear it again soon... (and even better if I had to have it refitted!). I took a photo of it this morning so I can remind myself what I want to wear (I am usually a tshirt and jeans girl, but this dress just spoke to me!).

And our landlady has just given us a space to use as a home gym! For free!!!! I am really thrilled as I cannot bring myself to go to a gym. I would prefer to work out at home. So I have picked up some equipment on marketplace, and DH is currently despiderizing the room now. So excited!

justsaxy · 25/07/2023 11:11

Hang on in there @Sotiredmjmmy and yeah for pens!!!!

Radish12 · 25/07/2023 11:23

Thank you @JeandeServiette (love that name!), I have some of the Sterimar stuff but I don't find it helps as much as the Sudafed - I do try a two-pronged attack when it gets bad though.

That dress is gorgeous @justsaxy you'll be thrilled when it fits properly! I have so many old clothes that I love that I've not been able to wear for years, they're in a separate part of the wardrobe and I try them on periodically and note how they fit. Recently managed to wear some culottes that I hadn't been able to breathe in previously so that was a good feeling.

Looking at Boots to reorder pens and nowhere near me is listed on their priority stores list anymore, but I do seem to be able to order five pens for home delivery so I'll do that.

Hope the walk is going well today @Saxendastarter ! That hotel looks haunted, was it?

WhiteNumen · 25/07/2023 14:28

@Saxendastarter lovely pics!

@justsaxy you will get there :) and you are gonna look amazing

I need your advice, last 3 shots it gave me a small rash, didnt have it at all on lower doses. I upped it on Friday.. should i endure it until i get to 3 or lower back to 1.2?

not sure if its an allergic reaction and should stop it or its just due to the increase dosage :(

Has anyone experienced it?

Saxendastarter · 25/07/2023 22:26

Hi all, I’m reading everything but not replying but will soon!

Day 94

Breakfast
Café
orange juice
mini pain au chocolat
mini croissant with fresh cheese and tomatoes
toast with olive oil

Lunch
biscuits
bread
cheese ( a lot)
salad
Abricot
chocolate

Snack
coffee
chocolate

Supper
Sangria
a lot of white wine
Bread and olive oil
Asapargus risotto
fried sea bream
Red wine
decaf coffee

honestly I have to say I am so impressed by the quality of the restaurants as everything is included. I was scared before leaving as I wrote but the three evening restaurants we have been to so far have been really good and had a lot of choice - todays starter for everyone was fish soup and when I refused it the waiter straight away said he was going to go see the chef to ask what I could have instead and came back with multiple propositions.. I chose asparagus risotto.

This morning we were rained on all morning which made for quite a slippery and wet climb up to the first spot we walked to with an amazing view of Guernica. We then drove to Gaztelugatxe and climbed up to the hermitage.https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaztelugatxe which was stunning before caving for the day because of the rain and coming to Bilbao to go to the Guggenheim.
Only 14km walked today but iPhone says 96 floors climbed !

I feel that m’épingla okay food wise - I’m eating a lot but I’m not “pigging” out on anything I don’t think. My legs hurt and my thighs ache but I’m proud. Had a bit of a strange moment today when coming down a very very steep and slippery forest path from the first hermitage I was walking next to our guide and he asked me outright when I had gained weight… I was pretty shocked as I hadn’t mentioned anything and asked him why he asked such a question. He started by apologizing and saying he didn’t mean to offend etc … but that he could see that at the same time I was struggling in the uphills but that I also moved the way a very thin women moves and that my issue was that I have to learn to use a walking stick the way someone heavier does … he said he could tell from the way I go up and down over rocks amd stuff that I was used to moving as a skinny person and that I had to adapt to my new body and be kind to it. It was a bit of a strange thing to say, but he said it with much kindness and then this afternoon gave me his walking sticks ( never used any before ) and showed me how to use them - and it does make one hell of a difference!

here are some more pictures… and to whoever said that French women are classy .. today I wore socks in my sandales and I had to don my pink raincoat that is as far from chic as can be!

Also I still haven’t managed to have a 💩! I don’t get it. I’m eating prunes and walking … I think I’m just stressed from not being in my own loo. FPOTM offered to talk to me over the phone whilst I sat on the loo but I can’t think of anything worse!

Lovely dress @justsaxy ! @Radish12 the hotel was jug haunted at all and had two gorgeous male receptionists ( brothers and sons of the owners in their thirties ) they were really nice to me … I think they felt a bit sorry for me being with a group of older people and one of them came and knocked at my bedroom door just after if finished posting on mumsnet and invited me down for a drink and a walk to show me some of the old waterways round the forge ( okay to be honest he also offered to share a joint with me and I agreed ( but it’s sort of legal here ) before giving me the number of friends of his in the town we stop in on Friday so they can take me out…. Was a lovely evening… the room is the non haunted hotel room! Tonight’s hotel is more basic but still very decent!

also the roof sort of photo is an amazing swimming pool on the roof ceilings - so you can see people swimming through it !

Hello lovelies!

@Footgoose Thanks for the tag! It's a good prompt to get back on here, I've been so out of the loop with life recently, I've still been reading a long but had a very weird couple of weeks.

@Saxendastarter your holiday pictures look amazing!!! I hope you are having the best time and I'm loving following along with you. I'm glad the food has turned out well for you so far after reading your earlier concerns. Also on the 💩front, I alwaaaays, always, get what I like to call '💩shy' whenever I travel, it's the most bizarre thing - even if it's just to somewhere else in the UK, I always get constipated 😂so maybe it's just all of the unsettling.. hope you get some relief soon!

Just to explain my prolonged absence, my house sale fell through a week before we were due to move in, for the second time now might I add and we have been living in a small air BnB at the bottom of a friends garden with nearly all of my belongings in storage for 4 months! 😅so times have been testing. I'm absolutely desperate for some annual leave from work, I'm just so exhausted with it all, but roll on 4 weeks time and I've got about 8 days off for my favourite festival and my best friends wedding.

I went into a bit of a hole honestly, was emotional eating (no where near as bad as I used to binge) and somedays just not eating at all really but I just fell out of step with everything while all of that was going on, I ended up having about a 10 day break from saxenda because I was just being totally flakey with it, I went away for 4 days with work and forgot it and felt like it was better to just have a break, reset my brain and feel all of the feelings!

I'm feeling a lot better the last week or so mentally despite being absolutely loaded with a cold (sudafed is my bestie right now!), I've started back on 0.6mg which is working and with the shortage, my plan is to now just stay on this dose alongside working on my willpower and it's working to just take the edge off cravings and impulsiveness. I'm really focusing on protein, lots of veg, healthy fats, less processed food, plenty of water at the minute.

I've hit the 50% mark of my weight loss target and weighed in at 12st 2.6lbs (77kg) this week which is my lowest weight so far and I'm really feeling it now, I wore some jeans at the weekend that wouldn't even button up when I bought them and they were so comfortable, even to sit down and eat in them!

My stats below:

Start weight: 13st 5lbs (84.8kg)
Current weight: 12st 2.6lbs (77.4kg)
Weight lost to date: 1st 2.4lbs (7.4kg)
Target: 11st (69kg)
Weight still to lose: 1st 2.6lbs (7.6kg)

19 weeks until Australia so I need to lose at least just under 1lb a week to reach my target 😊
