What diets are you all following?

I'm 5ft 2 & a bit far too heavy and just back from an all-inclusive and shockingly I'm pushing 13st.

Sort of 5:2ing. Two low carb, salad and protein heavy days a week which automatically keeps the calories low.

I like this strategy as my general diet is decent with not much room to cut to a daily deficit without making life rather tedious. It's not a quick strategy, but I haven't got a lot to lose, and just gained it gradually with time.

That's definitely part of my issue. My general diet is OK.
I've had a couple of periods in my life when I've gained weight quickly. Pregnancy & fertility treatment, but generally it's been a slow creep couple of pound at Christmas and same in summer.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/07/2023 16:39

I survived my first school holiday fast day. It wasn't too bad. I got my run in early, and made it to lunchtime before having some fish and stirfry. Kebabs and salad for dinner.
I mainly want to keep stable over the summer, and if I can keep it creeping down, that would be awesome.

Totally failed to post! Been busy. So I'm back to Slimfast shake most mornings ( probably 4/7) unless I'm hungry when I wake up when I have granola en yogurt. For lunch I'm having a Slimfast bar most days as I don't often get madly hungry but if I am I have a boiled egg and slice of sourdough toast. Thought on Sunday when it was cold and rainy I had beans on toast! And I have a normal dinner with extra veg and salad but make it reasonably 'healthy' and sensible portion size. But sometimes I have egg and chips!

Hello again, just joining the new thread. I’m plodding on with my weight loss, need to be strict and and keep at it, being tested for type 2 diabetes so no excuses now, the carbs have been mostly ditched and the symptoms have consequently gone away, I hope what I’m doing is working🤞

I’m about 9 stone 8 now, I think, will weigh in properly on Saturday. A couple more cm to come off my waist before it’ll be back to healthy measurements.

Hi @thislittlebird I am also being tested for type 2 diabetes, I am struggling for low carb breakfast foods. Would you mind sharing what you have for breakfast? Thank you 🙏

thislittlebird · 30/07/2023 09:46

@Helpisneeded100 hello! Yeah, it’s tough finding low carb things, hopefully the below list is useful!

I’ve been having plain or Greek yogurt with berries, sometimes with things like flax seed, chia seed, hemp seed added, sometimes with crushed pistachio or other nuts. I found an overnight oats recipe online that subs some oats for hemp seed to make it lower carb. I’ve made my own smoothies/shakes, or sometimes have low carb protein shakes for ease, usually only use berries for these because other fruits could be too sugary when blended? Avocado and spinach could work in shakes too.

Almond or peanut butter is a good breakfast ingredient for me, I’ll have some on a small piece of rye sourdough with fruit, or I’ll drizzle it (usually almond because it’s runnier) on fruit or yogurt.

I’m mostly veggie but meat is ok, so occasional sausage or bacon with eggs/mushrooms/tomato could work, or maybe avocado and eggs, or veggie omelette.

thislittlebird · 30/07/2023 09:51

I was down to about 9st 5lb before my recent holiday, low carb and calorie has been a big help to get some weight moving. I’m hoping to get back to it and lose a few more pounds before I have to stop in September for fertility stuff to restart. Not weighing myself yet, will do it next Saturday as I don’t want the post-holiday pounds to piss me off!

WhoInvitedHer · 30/07/2023 10:12

I would like to join lease. 5'1' and 63kg. Would live to get to 58kg which I was always until about 3 years ago. 61 next week if age makes any difference

Gensola · 31/07/2023 11:14

I have just signed up with a PT - currently on holiday and hating the photos so have the first session the day after I get home.
I am 5’2 and 63kg so just into the overweight category, would like to be 50-52kg which was my pre IVF weight, 5 rounds of IVF has really puffed me out

thislittlebird · 31/07/2023 11:33

@Gensola I hate the holiday photos! I still look chubby, even though I’ve lost a stone. Need to get back to it after our trip but struggling to find the motivation right now and had a croissant this morning, it wasn’t even very nice, waste of calories. We’ve had (unsuccessful) fertility treatments and ivf, it definitely had an effect, and then when I restart I’ll have to take prednisolone and I know that will make my face fat again, even if I’ve lost weight by then.

Sugarfree23 · 31/07/2023 11:38

@Gensola how much is the PT costing s session?

I thought about it buy was looking at £40 a week which seems a lot of money.

Gensola · 31/07/2023 11:46

@thislittlebird all our iVF was also unsuccessful so it made me fat for nothing which is pretty annoying lol - oh and it cost us £35,000 😰

@Sugarfree23 yeah mine is like £40 a session but I’m desperate now haha so I’m going to try it for 12 weeks to see if it kick starts me.

thislittlebird · 31/07/2023 12:01

@Gensola @Sugarfree23 my PT was about £50 or £55 (can’t recall), so 40 sounds good. It did help though, I did it for 8 weeks ish before I got married.

The diet shift has been the biggest thing for me tbh, I’d been working out and eating fairly normally since Jan/Feb and then when I did low carb and sugar it really kicked everything up a gear.

@Gensola I feel your pain, did you do 5 collections? We’ve done three, planning to do 5 in all before we give up. Similar amount of money will have been spent by then! But I have done well at losing some weight this year, so I should be pleased with that. I was about 60kg before holiday, will weigh again later this week when I’ve started the diet again.

Gensola · 31/07/2023 12:37

@thislittlebird we did 3 collections and ended up with 5 embryo transfers from that, all grade 5A but none stuck. I can’t decide if I can do it again - I had OHSS after one of the collections and it was awful.

thislittlebird · 31/07/2023 13:25

@Gensola oh yeah, it sucks, sorry you had to deal with ohss too. I have had 6 fail, 3 collections too. We will try a few more times because I can’t let it rest without putting myself through some more mental anguish first, but there’s an end in sight. I’ve tried to get on top of my weight this year so I feel better about myself as well, it takes its toll on everything.

Sugarfree23 · 31/07/2023 14:47

@Gensola
I'm sorry to read your IVF was unsuccessful. Gutting.

Trying a PT for 12 weeks isn't such a bad idea.
I have a gym membership so decisions, decisions use a PT at the gym or use someone independent of the gym.

I did a trial with an independent just before I joined the gym but at the time the gym seemed a better idea. But I'm a year down the line, fitter but just as fat.

BogRollBOGOF · 04/08/2023 18:19

Anyone seen a wagon trundling off?

I've had some unpleasant lurgy that made me want all the carbs. I'm settling back to normal again, but there's a holiday looming so no window to really gain momentum again. I'm just going to try and focus on some positive choices and try and get a bit more selective again. By the time we're back it won't be long before the end of the holidays.

Life happens anyway. There's no point in making illnesses feel worse or feeling guilt about good times.

OP posts:
Sugarfree23 · 05/08/2023 10:47

Yes and I seem to be struggling to cling onto it.

The PT who I really wanted to use can't fit me in at a time that suits. I think I'm going to end up using someone via the gym who's more expensive (because the gym take their cut) and who's maybe quiet as good but hey how

Gensola · 05/08/2023 10:55

My PT has had me do progress pics 😭 and starting weight etc and is doing my nutrition plan etc for me to start this week. It is costing me a fortune but I am desperate to succeed so hopefully this is it…

SunshineAndSlushies · 15/08/2023 19:25

I'm creeping back in after a long break, with a new name but was previously called purplegirl

I am shocked to realise how long it has been! I'll have to catch up on the end of the last thread. Life got in the way, as it has a tendency to.

Good to see you are still around @Sooverthemill

@againmaeve @Knittingnanny2 @WellTidy @neverenoughchelseaboots @SwimmingOnEggshells
Are you on this thread, albeit with a different name?

I was horribly sick last year, acid reflux and then some - took a few months to diagnose a hiatus hernia. I lost a 1st+ due to the sickness and started this year about 9st11, I've now regained so I'm guessing I'm 10st3/5ish. Will weigh in on Friday.

I'm recovering from covid, got it a few weeks ago for the first time and I'm finally feeling like myself.

B - none
L - spanish omelette, roasted vegetables, guacamole
S - cherries
D - rice, indian spiced carrots, and mushroom/pea curry (all homemade)

Looking forward to getting to know the not so new 'newbies'

Sugarfree23 · 15/08/2023 23:42

@Gensola how long/ often are you planning on seeing the PT?

I have a couple of sessions booked, thinking going weekly for 6 weeks then fortnightly to Christmas.

Sooverthemill · 16/08/2023 05:00

@SunshineAndSlushies welcome back! Sorry to hear you’ve been unwell. Hope you do feel better.

I’ve plateaued and am a bit fed up but it’s mainly through utter boredom and this shit weather ( which really affects my mood). I’m going to have another go from today at being sensible

Forgoodnesssakewhatnow · 16/08/2023 07:12

Hey @SunshineAndSlushies 👋. I’m Neverenough. Your message was just what I needed. I keep meaning to check back in but because I’ve switched username, it seemed like a faff that I didn’t get round to.

Sorry to hear you’ve been ill. I hope you’re coming out the other side.

Life has also got in the way for me but things are calming down now. I’m about 9st 8 and currently visiting family for a week so will weigh after all the gluttony has finished. I didn’t drink at all for a few weeks before coming away and was seeing a steady drop. So that’s first step of the plan next week.

I haven’t read back through the thread but sure I’ll pick up on everyone else’s names soon. And I hope you’re doing okay @Sooverthemill and your daughter is as well as she can be. x
