Need to lose 8lbs in 1 week

EllieMae33 · 05/06/2023 16:23

Firstly , I just want to say if this triggers anyone please don't proceed to read.

I am looking to lose 8 lbs in 8 days. I know this will require a strict diet and I'm not sure what approach to take. 800 diet, keto, liquid. I'm considering a 24hr fast.
Anyone have any advice on how to get results fast.

This is short term only for one week and will be sustained healthily beyond that before you judge.

I was told I needed to lose weight in February to be eligible for ivf. They said i needed to teach this by my next appointment or we wont be funded. We cannot afford 7k quoted privately at min as we lost everything over covid and were only slowly building savings up . Landlord sold up and we just had to move in april to a council house which has no carpet which couldnt wait as floors were disgusting and needed serious decorating ( wallpaper ripped off, holes in walls ect so its taken us quite a bit of money to make it habitable ,so we really are relying on being eligble for publicly funded ivf. This really means alot to us, as weve been on a waiting list now for 4 years already, i dont have time on my side as im 38 now. They told me the board are extremely strict and won't allow me to be even 1lb over, so my goal is to be 1 lb under.

Since feb at my first appointment , I've lost 2 stone. I did this over 3 months by reducing calorie to 1500 and walking daily so it was gradual and not a silly diet or anything. I was supposed to have until end of June but clinic phoned yesterday and told us they need to move out appointment forward , if we don't take this appointment we'd have to wait another 8 weeks at least as they said they can't place the booking on system at moment.
So yeah I really need to try and shift this weight in the next week. If anyone can over any advice as to what worked for them , if really appreciate it

I would do slim fast or Cambridge diet or anything meal replacement related. You'll lose a lot in your first week but 9 lbs is v optimistic tbh.

Nyancat · 05/06/2023 16:27

I'd go lean protein and salads for a week, no dressings, and a ton of water.

Alyosha · 05/06/2023 16:29

It might be literally impossible. What's your current TDEE? You have to create a 28000 deficit over the week, although some of that could be water weight. To create that kind of deficit each day you'd have to be intensely exercising for hours with very little food. I'm really sorry.

Usernamenotavailab · 05/06/2023 16:30

if you don’t make the weight is that your chance if funded ivf gone?

if so I’d take the appt in 8 weeks.

Whattodo112222 · 05/06/2023 16:32

I really wouldn't put yourself under this pressure. If you don't lose it you'll be devastated and you'll have to wait 8 weeks anyway so why not wait 8 weeks and lose it in a healthy and achievable way

Drosselmeyer · 05/06/2023 16:34

If it's literally the number on the scales that you care about, you can get this down by not eating or drinking before you weigh, wear as little as possible, go to the loo etc. You can even sweat it out like jockeys do. None of this is long term but it might help you get the right number on the scales.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 05/06/2023 16:35

First of all give us your height and weight please?

But secondly, short of liposuction, it's highly unlikely to lose that much weight in that short amount of time, nigh on physically impossible. Just go for the appointment in 8 week.

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 05/06/2023 16:36

Sorry OP, but I don’t think this is physically possible. You clearly know how to lose weight (well done on the 2 stone lost so far), so just take the appointment in 8 week’s time and do the weight loss over that time, which is perfectly achievable.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 05/06/2023 16:38

Well done for losing 2 stone.

I would take the appointment in 8 weeks time. That way you know you can make the target. Take the pressure. off yourself.

Good luck with the IVF

EllieMae33 · 05/06/2023 16:44

Thanks for the replies guys. I also agree, it's quite a high set target. I've allowed myself an extra 1 pound off calculated into that just to be safe, but the actual goal is 7lbs to be achieved by the afternoon of day 9.

I'm going to give it a go until end of week and if I'm not budging I'll have to cancel. My concern with that is she said to phone back in 8 weeks to arrange another appointment but advised it could be a few months before they would offer a new appointment. When the appointment is booked , our last 2 were 6 weeks before , so I'm thinking if we reschedule we won't get an appointment for another 14 weeks at least

This is not something that has ANYTHING to recommend it but I had a colonscopy last week which involved a 36 hour fast and a clean out with Moviprep. Lost 2kg. 1kg came back on within 2 days.

This!! Just wait and lose the weight a safe way

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 05/06/2023 17:03

If you do very low carb you lose loads of water weight as well, meaning you can drop a lot of weight quickly in the first week (because it's not "real" weight IYSWIM.) If you religiously stick to the Atkins induction stage or similar this should be achievable.

Not in general a great idea to lose this much weight so quickly but I can can really understand this as an exceptional circumstance.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 05/06/2023 17:05

Also look at Atkins Fat Fast, brutal and not to be recommended other than a last resort normally, but you need to do what you need to do.

DampMatches · 05/06/2023 17:07

I would seriously consider waiting.

If you’re desperate to give it a try I’d going carnivore for the week - have heard reports of dramatic loss in the first week.

Misunderstoodagain · 05/06/2023 17:20

-Low/ zero carbs, lots of water

-Saunas, steam rooms every day and especially day before

  • a bottle of white wine the day before to dehydrate you- trick body builders use ( not sure you loose weight as such and def not healthy 🤔)
-Inch loss body wrap as well at a spa.

Although that much that soon is near impossible 😕

HumourReplacementTherapy · 05/06/2023 17:26

If this helps...
I'm 5ft 4 last Monday I weighed 10st 10lbs.
I have low carbed (my version of it ) massively upped water intake and walked a lot.
I eat twice a day. 1pm and 7pm
Lunch either a mushroom Omelette or Greek yog with 2 large strawberries
Dinner-meat or fish with veg or salad.
Today I weighed in at 10st 1lb
The next 7lbs will probably take around 6 -8 weeks as most of that initial wait loss was water but it spurs me on to stick to it.

scaredysquiggle · 05/06/2023 17:34

Eat so healthily this week - salads and water and then a good sauna the morning of r evening before. I'm 147lbs and I can lose 4lbs in a sauna. Sure it's just water weight but whatever you need to do to tip the scales on the day is understandable. Good luck

Pro boxers on a hard weight cut the week before the fight eat only protein, healthy fats & a bit of green veg. Low fibre, no carbs, very low sodium, then in the 48 hours before weigh in, they stop drinking to dehydrate themselves. They also exercise at high intensity to literally burn fat & literally sweat the weight out in the sauna. At weigh-in they are often so seriously dehydrated that they are on the verge of passing out.
These people are super-fit professional athletes, and nobody is suggesting that this is is any way sensible or sustainable for anyone, but that’s how they do it.

And bodybuilders have an unfortunate habit of dropping dead from doing much the same.

There's no guarantee that the clinic scales will weigh the same as the ones at home. You would also be wearing clothes, so no stripping off to underwear for it.

Just rebook the appointment.

pinksheetss · 05/06/2023 18:24

Take the 8 weeks OP
That's way too much to ask of your body in a weeks time and you could hurt your chances by either not making weight in that week or by any damage done if you take extreme measures

I know it's tough but the 8 weeks would give you a good chance to hit weight and have your body as healthy as can be

Is the appointment a booking in appointment or will they start any treatment then?

awimbawaaay · 05/06/2023 18:25

I feel like this would only be possible with something like "the snake diet" but honestly, do you really WANT to go from extreme weight loss to ttc? Wouldn't you rather be really healthy with low carb / high fat and plenty of nutrients in the run up to ivf to give yourself the best possible chance?

I'm the same height as you but a couple of stone lighter and can lose 1lbs by fasting and eating one tiny meal at night. It's not really real weight loss though as it comes back on if I go back to eating normally and it's not healthy. I would rebook personally.

MK85 · 05/06/2023 18:51

Hi op, having gone through the same process i can completely relate .
I was very poorly and in bed and couldn't make the most of the time I had to lose weight and it came down to 2 weeks left. The first week for me was a gradual transition so I didn't really lose weight. The second week I went hard and went from 13st3 to 12st7 in one week.
At the end I stopped because it was just falling off me and I wanted to carry on at a steady pace from then onwards...however I just resorted back to my usual eating afterwards 🙈 I did gain weight but only 3 pounds upto 12st10 and I remained steady at that for around 2 months until I started dieting again last week to shift the few extra pounds off so it can't have been all water weight as it stayed off for months .

My advice is to do intermittent fasting. I consumed under 1000 calories that week. 16 hour fast ( 2 days I did 18hr fast) dinner was small , either a chicken salad, I did have pasta with my salad / 2 days I think i just had chicken soup and one slice of bread for dipping. One dinner / toast avocado / chicken breast filet and veg.
While I didn't completely eliminate carbs I just stuck to under 1000 calories and still lost the weight, and I have pcos. If I was desperate for a sugary snack I ate a skinny bar around 70 or 80 cals instead of my usual go to cupcakes or traybakes. I exercised for around 15 mins a day, not excessively.
The first day I'd suggest very low calorie to kick-start things.
I was able to lose weight fast but it was definitely tough. I didnt feel unwell at the end , I actually felt great and eliminated all my stomach issues and pain but I'd probably suggest you speak to your go if you start feeling unwell.
