Need to lose 8lbs in 1 week

EllieMae33 · 05/06/2023 16:23

Firstly , I just want to say if this triggers anyone please don't proceed to read.

I am looking to lose 8 lbs in 8 days. I know this will require a strict diet and I'm not sure what approach to take. 800 diet, keto, liquid. I'm considering a 24hr fast.
Anyone have any advice on how to get results fast.

This is short term only for one week and will be sustained healthily beyond that before you judge.

I was told I needed to lose weight in February to be eligible for ivf. They said i needed to teach this by my next appointment or we wont be funded. We cannot afford 7k quoted privately at min as we lost everything over covid and were only slowly building savings up . Landlord sold up and we just had to move in april to a council house which has no carpet which couldnt wait as floors were disgusting and needed serious decorating ( wallpaper ripped off, holes in walls ect so its taken us quite a bit of money to make it habitable ,so we really are relying on being eligble for publicly funded ivf. This really means alot to us, as weve been on a waiting list now for 4 years already, i dont have time on my side as im 38 now. They told me the board are extremely strict and won't allow me to be even 1lb over, so my goal is to be 1 lb under.

Since feb at my first appointment , I've lost 2 stone. I did this over 3 months by reducing calorie to 1500 and walking daily so it was gradual and not a silly diet or anything. I was supposed to have until end of June but clinic phoned yesterday and told us they need to move out appointment forward , if we don't take this appointment we'd have to wait another 8 weeks at least as they said they can't place the booking on system at moment.
So yeah I really need to try and shift this weight in the next week. If anyone can over any advice as to what worked for them , if really appreciate it

I was quite ill with a septic throat recently and lost this amount in a week but it was due to really high temperatures and sweating, only one small meal a day. You've done so well already that you may not have anything to worry about.Best of luck.

Cabbage soup diet
I usually lose 7-9lb in a week on this

Not sustainable for a healthy diet, but the week before holidays (or IVF appointments) can do the trick

divascancook.com/wonder-soup-recipe-weight-loss-soup-7-day-diet-cabbage-soup/

I agree, this works, I have lost 9lb in a week on this - it’s all water weight though & is only a short term fix, but if you stick to it, it’ll work for what you need.

Also don’t eat before 10am or after 6pm

Good luck.

Lesina · 05/06/2023 23:24

Salt, loads of salt for at least 3 days. Then water, just water. It was what Bruce Lee did for the Marshal Art films to be really ripped. You will pee out loads of water weight. Can drop body weight. Essentially you will not lose fat or muscle in that time frame but you can lose water. It’s brutal. Also no carbs. Good luck x

Mummyofbananas · 05/06/2023 23:26

I'm 5'2 and started at 11st 6 adn I've lost 10lbs in 2 weeks combining keto, keeping calories low and 16/18 hour fasts each day.

I think it's doable- most of it will be water weight but that's fine you just need the scales to go down.

Lots of water, ncut out fizzy drinks and I agree with some wine the night before.

100% works for me every time I do it.
The James Duncan diet.

Follow it to the letter and you lose a stone in a week. It's a diet designed to crash lose weight for surgery and isn't drastically unhealthy. I think you lose mostly water weight but works and is real food.

I've done it loads of times so PM me if you have any questions.

I recommend this too. You get to eat lean lamb, steak etc.

MsCactus · 05/06/2023 23:30

I don't think it's possible - you need to undereat by 28,000 calories to lose 8lb.

If your TDEE is 2,000 calories that's a 14,000 deficit (2000x7) in a week if you eat nothing whatsoever but water for a week. 4lb lost.

You'd need to eat nothing whatsoever for two weeks to lose 8lb as far as I can tell...

Would appreciate if someone can double check my maths, but I don't think it's doable even if you fast the entire week OP

Snippit · 05/06/2023 23:31

I’ve recently read an account of a journalist who followed Gwyneth Paltrow broth diet, she lost 7 lbs in a week. It may be worth a try 🤷‍♀️

MsCactus · 05/06/2023 23:32

Actually I guess if your TDEE is very high it might be achievable. 2,000 is average but if you're overweight it could be higher for you.

Either way I think you'd be looking at basically fasting for an entire week to reach that

RulaLenskasHair · 05/06/2023 23:36

@EllieMae33 I was in exactly the same position a couple of months ago. I totally understand where you are on this.

I am taller and heavier than you and had 6lbs to go in two weeks. I managed about 9lbs off, was under the 30 BMI and got the funding.

I ate about 500 cals a day, did long fasts between meals, no salt, ate nothing and drank very little in the last 24 hours. Also stripped to underwear to be weighed which the nurse thought was weird but I thought was worth it!

For those saying -
“don’t put your body through it and then start IVF” - this is just to get on the waiting list 😢

“can’t you have a sensible conversation with the doctor about the way your weight is going” - you’d think yes wouldn’t you, but in my case this was in the hands of the admin people and it was very much BMI 30.1 - computer says no

Its is quite ridiculous IMHO, although I understand they must have a cut off.

You can do it OP. 💪

Watchthedoormat · 05/06/2023 23:37

You've lost a great amount of weight since February.
Your appointment was brought forward.
I don't think they're going to have an issue with you still having a few pounds to loose.
I'd eat sensibly and exercise but not resort to any extremes that may make you unwell. You need to be on form and feeling good and healthy - not passing out and looking like death warmed up at this appointment.

Showerroomlove · 05/06/2023 23:39

If you were starting out on a diet, I think you could do this but since you’ve been dieting for a while, it might be more difficult to lose the water weight (or is it glycogen and how it readjusts when you diet?)

I’d also be concerned about how calibrated your scales were with the hospital’s because I know mine are out by 2-3lbs.

I'm 5ft3. Goal is 12 Stone. I'm currently 12st.7lbs

As pp have said you aren't overweight enough to lose that amount of weight in that short an amount of time. It isn't possible and you will seriously make yourself ill trying. Sorry.

Not true, I'm 5ft 7 and previous around this weight near my wedding and I dropped about 9lb in less than 2 weeks as a last blast to fit my dress. So unhealthy but I ate around 400/500 cals a day and drank water like it was my job. Obviously not healthy but if it gets you on the list I'd say go for it and return to a healthy diet straight away

Wizzbangfizz · 06/06/2023 09:13

Thanks @Ripleysgameface def going to give it a go as I need a kick up the arse! I’m a salt fiend though

good luck OP and ignore the poster who said crash dieting isn’t a great start to parenting I dont know why they bother to post if they clearly haven’t read the post properly!

SunsetBeauregarde · 06/06/2023 13:15

People saying ‘I did this for a week and lost 7lbs’ - you need to understand the OP has already been dieting pretty hard for months - you lost 7lbs+ largely due to water weight (most of the diets mentioned are very low carb) which she currently won’t be carrying so she needs to go beyond normal water weight loss and dry out from an already low base.

You cannot lose 4% of your body mass in a week guaranteed without a dry out. Trust me when I say from a shit ton of experience that it isn’t possible. If you personally lost 56lbs in a week doing master cleanses or whatever the fuck it doesn’t matter - your weight loss was predominantly water which op won’t have to lose at the moment as she’s already been through that stage when she began dropping weight. She can dry out further, but that’s a specific process that a normal VLCD won’t do. She’s likely to put on weight with a drastic diet change to VLCD right now, not lose it.

I feel like I need to clarify to some of you that I will not be immediately pursuing ivf upon completion of this crash diet. It's just to get on the list! List waiting times can be another year away. I would never do this and ttc immediately following it.

Also no, sadly there's absolutely no wiggle room with them. They won't allow you to be one pound over, regardless of how much you've lost prior. It's just the way ivf criteria works.

Just to update , this morning I've weighed in with a 2lb loss which I'm delighted about my last meal was at 9pm which I did have carbs.
I think I credit this down to fasting for 16 hours yesterday then only eating small snacks throughout the day ( banana, nuts, one slice of toast until my main meal . Considering I did have a sneaky ice cream because of the heat 2lbs seems like a great start to the week.
I'll update you all if I meet my target or not by next week

Great start! It'll be tough but you can do it, you have the best incentive and it's only a week just get a day in at a time

Normative · 06/06/2023 16:55

Good luck. Rooting for you
