Ozempic new starters thread

Wondering if anyone would like to join me starting Ozempic. I’m doing my first injection tonight and am very nervous about reactions/side effects. I’m 5’ and 10.5 stones with very high blood pressure which medication is struggling yo bring down, high cholesterol and arthritis.

I would like to get to 9 stones realistically and ideally 8.5. I do seem to have unusual reactions to some medication so am really hoping I can take this without too many problems as I’m sure I’d be far healthier minus a couple stones.

Weekly update from me - 7th weigh in, 8th dose (3rd dose of 0.5). I lost almost 3lb this week. Wasn't expecting to lose any as I have had a meal out plus attended a wedding so plenty of booze, canopies etc. So a total loss of 1st 6lb I think. Been trying to have a couple days a week of just shakes and then sensible evening meals the rest of the time. Constipation still a problem but sorted with Lactulose. Havent done any walking this week, must get back to it!

MedievalMadness · 31/05/2023 20:52

Pink that’s brilliant progress for 7 weeks. I’m going to be buying some lactulose tomorrow. My constipation is ridiculous. As is the price increase . I’m not going to be able to keep on it as long as I hoped as this is going to be prohibitively expensive . I’m concerned the weight will go back on when I stop too WeightInLine but as you say, first we need to lose it .

I'm waiting for my first package to be delivered tomorrow (well should be, posted today). I was going to start on Sunday evening but now contemplating just go ahead with it and start tomorrow evening. I don't have too much going on this weekend but ideally I'd move it to Sunday night, has anyone done that (with time)?

SaxSick · 31/05/2023 23:49

Those of you who are talking about Juniper and paying 200 pounds plus - what are you actually buying for that?

Recycledblonde · 01/06/2023 07:36

I started mine on Tuesday and not weighing until next Tuesday but omg the loss of appetite! I'm just not interested in food, even went to Sainsbury's to get a newspaper yesterday and would normally have come out with loads of stuff and binged on it but I wasn't tempted at all. I only managed a small bowl of greek yoghurt and two homemade meatballs and that was only because I thought I should eat something. I'm drinking loads of water. I know it's very early days but I feel great, no sickness etc and no more tired than normal for a post menopausal fattie.
I'm back at work tomorrow so will be interesting to see if the boredom eating kicks in. I'm going to take a salad and some fruit but I normally get tempted by the vending machine or sandwich van for a sausage roll etc.

Menora · 01/06/2023 10:22

Still no weight loss 😭
I am questioning whether ozempic is right for me, it’s so expensive! And I still have another week from Sunday for the 0.25mg - to lose no weight

Mephisneon · 01/06/2023 11:45

I had my 4th injection on Tuesday. I felt like the last few weeks I've been able to eat very little and had less hunger on Wed to Fri. But less so this week. I feel like the initial effectiveness is wearing off! I'm also due on my period in a few days so I wonder if that's having an impact? Just wondering if anyone else had this?

Mephisneon · 01/06/2023 11:47

MedievalMadness · 29/05/2023 13:29

Good luck Recycledblonde. Really hope this helps.

ChiCha. I found the same as you with first pen. After first 3 doses the appetite suppressant effects just wore off. I sneaked 2 doses in per week for 2 weeks which helped. I’m now on the 0.50 pen and find that far better in terms of feeling full on much much less. So far today I’ve had two ryvitas and a slice of cheese and a coffee for breakfast and a bit of yoghurt, strawberries, grapes and raspberries for lunch and am full. Which is a total miracle for me. Was your first pen 0.25 and this new one 0.5? Or did you start at 0.5?

Just reading this after posting. I'm feeling very similar with the appitie suppression @MedievalMadness

I got the 0.25 pen (and the scales!). I think you can join the Juniper community etc.

everly · 01/06/2023 15:47

Urgh, I take back what I said yesterday about having plenty to ne getting on with. My new pen was due for delivery this morning but DPD couldn't be bothered tp make the effort to deliver it. They say its at a pick up point 3 miles away ready for me to pick up. However it's not there. Can't get hold of anyone at Juniper.

I've noticed an increase in people complaining recently about poor customer service and dispatch errors etc.

Lucky I'm still using my first pen but I'm not happy and don't want to wait a week to get to the bottom of things.

The reason I asked is because I got 2 pens of 6mg Saxenada for approx 100 pounds

SarahC50 · 01/06/2023 18:27

@MedievalMadness can you get 8 doses out of a 1mg pen by doing the clicks. I'm with juniper and delayed moving up to 1mg due to side effects and am getting another 0.5mg pen dispensed. They both cost £225 don't they so I'm thinking next month to move up to 1mg and take the 0.5mg like you are doing. Is that right about the doses from the 1mg pen? Thankyou I'm buggered by the increased price and I'm sure it will go up again.

SarahC50 · 01/06/2023 18:31

Sorry got the names mixed up meant for @DrMadelineMaxwell

MedievalMadness · 01/06/2023 18:35

SarahC50. I’m not sure how many doses of .50 you’d get out of the 1mg pen. I’m on the .50 pen and have just done my 3rd dose of .50. Can anyone else on here answer this? If not I’d ask on other thread where there will be lots of posters who have been taken it a lot longer than we have on this one. Yes the price increase is a total bummer

I found this and am going to count the clicks to 39 when intake the dose.
I should by rights only the weekend's dose left in my 0.5 pen but there looks like plenty left so it might yet last me another week. I'll count the clicks it makes when I dose with what is left to find out.

Thankyou @MedievalMadness @DrMadelineMaxwell I'm week ten and on 0.5mg. The price increase is concerning and I fear it will go up again. X

Just done my first injection of 0.25mg under the watchful eye of a nurse, as im diabetic i had it prescribed. Had a metalic taste in my mouth almost immediately but feel fine, have an awful lot if weight to lose as bmi is 47 so fingers crossed!

mumwheresmyribena · 02/06/2023 10:13

@SarahC50 @MedievalMadness
The 0.25 and 0.5 pens hold exactly the same amount - 2mg, so you get extra in the 0.25 pen, but the correct amount for 4 x 0.5 doses in the 0.5 pen (or 8 x 0.25 doses)
The 1mg pen contains enough for 4 x 1mg doses - or 8 x 0.5 doses or 16 x 0.25 doses (though this would take you past the "use within 8 weeks) recommendation.
I posted some photos of the official info, I think from the website or maybe from drugs.com in the "few months in" thread a few weeks ago, if you search by my name it should come up

Can I ask if many people start at 0.25? I bought online and it started at 0.6 - I wasn't given an alternative.

SaxSick · 02/06/2023 10:15

Ive just realised I am talking nonsense as I am taking liraglutide not semiglutide. Ignore me, so sorry.

SarahC50 · 02/06/2023 20:52

@mumwheresmyribena that's really helpful thankyou. I'll def order the 1mg pen mid June even if I want to stay on the 0.5mg.

Re exercise on ozempic how are folk getting on. I've only really done walking despite my great plans for using weights at home. Mainly this is because I've generally felt subpar on the drug - nausea, fatigue etc and simply the lower calories.

I'm week 10 and eat about 1400 calories a day so at least 1000 less than pre this. I hoped my body would have adjusted to this but today it was lovely and sunny rare for north west Scotland so I went on a three hour hill walk. I ate snacks and kept hydrated but at the end and since I've felt awful. That low blood sugar feeling hr fast, dizzy and weak I honestly feel like I've been hit with a bus.Has anyone else found that when exercising on ozempic.

Also noticed I'm getting that horrid crepey neck. Used to be full of fat and is deflating but have those horrid vertical lines on my wattle. I am 51 and I'd rather a wrinkly neck than obesity and all the associated problems.

X

mumwheresmyribena · 02/06/2023 21:10

@SarahC50 I swim 3 days/week, do yoga every day 60 mins if not swimming or 30 mins if I am. I walk most days, even if just around the village, and do weights 3 times a week.

I've streamlined it all so that the yoga & swimming are my main activities, they're both things I love to do so I will do them even if I'm feeling tired or down. I know there's stuff that would be better for me, but I've given up making myself do things because they're good for me.

The walking and weights I don't enjoy much, but the weights only take 15 mins and are really an extra to body weight stuff in yoga. After walking 1000+ steps/day for years I'm just tired of it all so walking is just my "filler" exercise.

I try to spend 500 calories/day on exercise no matter what it is. I love running though and have promised myself that when I lose another 5kg I'll let myself run again, it's kind of my target treat for whenever that will be. I have to work to get my treat.

SarahC50 · 03/06/2023 20:31

@mumwheresmyribena your regime sounds fantastic. Do you do yoga with Adrienne or your own stuff. My main thing is walking I walk the dog twice a day so always do my 10k steps. I've tried other classes but just feel quite shitty on ozempic. I'm encouraged by what you are saying and I had a wee 10 min weights routine I could easily do and should restart.
I feel if I'm not nauseated I'm fatigued or have diarrhoea. I'm finding it quite a hard drug to be on but yes I do need to do more exercise. Good on you xx

mumwheresmyribena · 03/06/2023 20:56

@SarahC50 I've done yoga for 40 years and until the last 5 years I did classes, now I use te Dog Down app and I can't recommend it enough - there's barre, meditation, HIIT and other stuff in it too, I do meditate but I don't use an app. There's so much choice of classes in the app, you can tailor your class to how you're feeling that day and also the time, from 10 to 90 mins. It was a huge help to do the Yin yoga when I was recovering from my ACL/PCL/meniscus injury 3 years ago, now I mainly do Ashtanga, hatha or hot 26.
Today I did weights, 60 minutes hatha and walked to the shop for beer for my husband 😅 550 calories in the bag.

SarahC50 · 04/06/2023 09:48

@mumwheresmyribena I'm off to look at that app it sounds really good thanks x
