Ozempic new starters thread

Wondering if anyone would like to join me starting Ozempic. I’m doing my first injection tonight and am very nervous about reactions/side effects. I’m 5’ and 10.5 stones with very high blood pressure which medication is struggling yo bring down, high cholesterol and arthritis.

I would like to get to 9 stones realistically and ideally 8.5. I do seem to have unusual reactions to some medication so am really hoping I can take this without too many problems as I’m sure I’d be far healthier minus a couple stones.

I have just ordered my first pen from Manuel. Even though it's ony 0.25 I'm hoping it will work, I was on Saxenda for a couple of months last year and my appetite nose dived immediately. No idea why I didn't stay on it, probably because I was trying to keep it a secret from DH, this time we've discussed it so am much more committed.
I have 4 stone to lose, all put on since I was in my mid forties, before that I was 9.5 stone without any problem. Need to eat a lot less and move more! I'm currently 14.5 stone and 5ft 6 with weight related knee and hip problems. I'm 58 and would like to be entering my 60s a bit fitter and healthier.

ChiChaNaYubi · 28/05/2023 19:50

I’ve just finished my first pen and all effects seem to have stopped. I don’t know wether to get another and try the 1mg dose. At the beginning it was amazing but I took my last dose yesterday and by this morning I was starving again.

MedievalMadness · 29/05/2023 13:29

Good luck Recycledblonde. Really hope this helps.

ChiCha. I found the same as you with first pen. After first 3 doses the appetite suppressant effects just wore off. I sneaked 2 doses in per week for 2 weeks which helped. I’m now on the 0.50 pen and find that far better in terms of feeling full on much much less. So far today I’ve had two ryvitas and a slice of cheese and a coffee for breakfast and a bit of yoghurt, strawberries, grapes and raspberries for lunch and am full. Which is a total miracle for me. Was your first pen 0.25 and this new one 0.5? Or did you start at 0.5?

Following as a new user.

AlwaysGreen · 29/05/2023 18:42

Another (hopefully) newbie here, waiting to get approved (and that there is stock!).

MedievalMadness · 29/05/2023 21:33

SaxSick hoping it goes well for you and AwaysGreen 🤞🏼you get approved and if you do there’s stock at the moment. I’m constantly amazed that I’m full on probably less than half of what I usually eat in a day. I am usually never full, or if I am, just for a few hours .

SaxSick · 29/05/2023 23:44

I am on Day 4 but feeling so sick each day. Fingers crossed it improves. Have to force food down.

MedievalMadness · 30/05/2023 07:25

SaxSick. That sounds miserable. Have you tried eating little and often? I really hope the nausea goes off soon as you adjust 🤞🏼

Mine has just been delivered. Anyone know what the best time to inject? I’ve just had breakfast so was wondering if it was best to let that digest first. Quite excited tbh.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 30/05/2023 10:33

I always do it just before bedtime.

I've had 4 x 0.25 and 2 x 0.5 from my first pen and then I went up to a 0.5 pen.

I've talked to juniper and my next pen (order in, waiting to see if they have stock to fullfill it!) is a 1mg. I'm happy on 0.5 and it def affects my appetite at this dose so I'm going to count the clicks and make the 1mg pen do 8 doses. That way I dont begrudge the 195 so much if it is for 2 months. I aim to do the same with another pen then I will have been on it for 6 months and I may wean off it and see what happens then.

My only side effect is some constipation. And one or two isolated days of nausea.
My weight loss is slow but steady and I'm now the lowest weight I've been in at least 10 years. I still have 2 stone to lose.

Menora · 30/05/2023 11:11

I’m on week 3 of 0.25mg. Not much weight loss yet, less bloating though and less hunger. I think I am going to need the 0.5 to really get me going. Not really many side effects now either. I have plenty in the pen I think but as I accidentally wasted some I might not have enough for a 2nd 0.5 dose when I get there

Recycledblonde · 30/05/2023 12:01

Just done my first jab. Fingers crossed it works. I’m trying to eat healthily, no ultra processed food and lots of vegetables and water with healthy fats etc. I’ve never been a takeaway/chocolate/biscuit eater, just eat too much! Looking back my weight gain started when I started to eat more UPF like ready meals and less homemade stuff. I do think that type of foods mess up your hormones. I’m also trying to move more generally.

MedievalMadness · 30/05/2023 12:46

DrMadeline. My main side effect is also constipation. It’s really bad. I don’t feel uncomfortable or bloated - just not going for a week and even then only a bit!

At first I took mine mid evening as I didn’t know what side effects to expect and thought towards bedtime might be best RecycledBlonde. I was really excited and nervous when I started . Still get a bit excited doing each dose as it feels like a step nearer my goal. Good luck.

menora glad you are less hungry. That’s a real plus.

Is anyone still suffering extreme tiredness? I find the nausea has lessened now but I still get overwhelming exhaustion every day

liz4change · 30/05/2023 14:58

Hi can I join? My second dose is tomorrow. I started with BMI of 30 due to a combination of peri/actual menopause, not moderating food and alcohol intake and not enough exercise.

Like others I find the almost complete absence of food chatter an enormous relief. I am feeling so much better and in fact am wondering whether my real dependence was on sugar.

Really appreciate people sharing tips and have had no side effects so far. Too early to say much about weight loss but my mood and energy levels are so much better.

MedievalMadness · 30/05/2023 15:30

Liz4change. That’s a great start by sounds of it. Its such a novelty to not want to constantly eat/snack . Sugar a huge thing for me too.

Fortheloveofus. The exhaustion is going off now. I’m back to my usual tiredness from the condition I’ve got which makes me tired.

Recycledblonde · 30/05/2023 16:40

Not sure if it's my imagination, it's 4 and a half hours since I injected, tried some lunch about an hour ago, just fruit and bread and can't even eat half of it, just not interested. I don't feel nauseous or anything, just not interested.
When I was on Saxenda it worked really quickly too, perhaps I'm very suggestable!😃

WeightInLine · 31/05/2023 10:45

Is anyone else exhausted? I am in Week 3 and so happy with weight loss. I’ve also been able to exercise without getting ravenous, which is great.

However, I am shattered. I could sleep for a million years. Anyone else had this and got through it?

Menora · 31/05/2023 11:12

I am in week 3 and barely lost any weight so I am not really very excited. I also have no Oz symptoms now I am well into the 0.25 dose
are you eating enough? I would be tired if I wasn’t and exercising a lot

Fortheloveofus · 31/05/2023 11:42

@WeightInLine and @Menora
I'm 8 weeks in now and I'm absolutely exhausted. I have a condition which causes fatigue anyway but this is another level. Symptoms of nausea, tiredness and shivers started for me in week 2 but only started feeling appetite suppression last week but that disappeared after a couple of days. I took a break in week 4 due to a planned weekend away as didn't want symptoms ruining everyone's break. I also carried on with 0.25 for 6 weeks as was too nervous about symptoms worsening. I took first 0.5 dose last Monday and tiredness has become worse. This week I went back to 0.25 as have another weekend away this weekend and again, I don't want it ruined. Will go back to 0.5 on Monday and will stick with it for a month but if things don't improve, I won't be continuing. The minimal weight loss is just not worth the symptoms, I'm afraid.
However, as you can see on here, everybody's journey is different and some don't suffer any symptoms at all and have great weight losses so my story is not the norm

SaxSick · 31/05/2023 12:12

Day 5 and the nausea is receding but the diarrhoea is still a problem. Mind you I am barely eating as have no appetite.

Menora · 31/05/2023 12:35

For me the nausea wore off in week 2
I am a little constipated though

everly · 31/05/2023 14:54

I've been suffering pretty badly from quite a lot of side effects the past week. Its been really difficult but i dont want to have to stop just yet.
I'm going to be sticking to 0.25 dose for a while to see if I can begin to tolerate the drug better

No weight loss last week but hopeful for something on Friday as I'm not eating much at all now.

On another note, I'm not impressed at the price increase from Juniper up to £225. Ill struggle to justify that if im honest. Luckily I paid for my second pen before the price was bumped up and I've got plenty left in my first pen so i have enough for a good few weeks.

Fortheloveofus · 31/05/2023 15:03

@everly Manual bumped their price up to £250 when I tried to order me second pen, blaming shortages. I haggled them back down to £199 but if the price hike is permanent then I it'll start making it prohibitive for me.

WeightInLine · 31/05/2023 15:31

Its a sellers market and I am really worried about supply so I have accepted that I will have to pay a lot for it.

I paid £295 for my first pen and it is on repeat with Juniper. It’s a lot of money for me. When I started I worked out that I can only afford 5 pens at this price. When the money is spent and the pens are done I will need to come off ozempic.

I worry I will put all the weight back on … but first I need to get it off. So I am calorie counting and exercising and trying to make the investment pay off.
