Ozempic new starters thread

Wondering if anyone would like to join me starting Ozempic. I’m doing my first injection tonight and am very nervous about reactions/side effects. I’m 5’ and 10.5 stones with very high blood pressure which medication is struggling yo bring down, high cholesterol and arthritis.

I would like to get to 9 stones realistically and ideally 8.5. I do seem to have unusual reactions to some medication so am really hoping I can take this without too many problems as I’m sure I’d be far healthier minus a couple stones.

hotelmotel. I’m very tired for sure. As I had no idea what to expect in terms of side effects I bought ginger sweets, mints, diarrhoea meds to try cover the various bases. I’ve not had any nausea but have been eating little and often and wonder if that would help. Also citrus fruits might have made your nausea worse as it’s so acidic. I hope it settles down very soon,

@hotelmotelpremierinn yes very tired and fatigued but probably eating a third of my normal calories. If I'm honest I probably ate 3000 a day my coach advised 1500 a day but days when the nausea has been bad I've struggled to eat that amount.

I find toast, oatcakes or an apple help. I don't like ginger so haven't tried ginger biscuits or drinks. I make a protein shake which is quite gentle on the stomach and good for upping protein on days when my nutrition isn't the best.

Hope it eases xx

Thanks - yes I'm thinking of doing shakes - have done them in the past but never lost weight as was always hungry! Maybe this combo will work......

Hello! I've taken 2 weeks worth of shots from my first pen. So 2 doses. But it still looks full. Like it doesn't look like it only has 2 shots left. Is that right? Can someone post a pic of their pen please.

SarahC50 · 02/05/2023 15:18

@Hopingandhopping yes it throws you a bit the excess fluid left. I too 4x0.25mg doses out of my pen as advised by juniper and there is loads left. I ordered a new pen to start the 0.5mg but I do believe some people take extra doses out of the excess fluid in the pen. I read somewhere it's so that mistakes with injecting mean there is still liquid left. Good luck how are you finding it x

thanks yes, it is a bit confusing re amount of liquid left. I think I'm going to order my next pen but just keep using up what is left in this one in the meantime.
I'm doing ok I think, I'm on week 3 and I can feel my appetite creeping up slightly. I will be ready to move on to 0.5 soon I think.
How are you doing?

Cabbage4eva · 03/05/2023 10:49

@Fraaahnces I've read that some clinicians start patients on 0.5mg because the 0.25mg doesn't do much. Others start at 0.25mg so that if a patient has major side effects, it won't be as bad on 0.25mg. If you aren't having any side effects and also aren't seeing any results, seems like there is no reason not to go to 0.5mg early. I'm not a health care professional though, etc, etc.

Fraaahnces · 03/05/2023 10:54

@Cabbage4eva - My GP knows me pretty well, and my other health issues. He knows I’m not going to go silly on it. (I don’t have Kardashian aspirations.)

Hi all, it's one week on Ozempic and I'm at 12st 13, so I've lost 4 pounds in total in one week. I've decided to inject with 0.5 today on my second week as within 3/4 days my appetite had returned and so had my love for all things chocolate even though I had a loss.

I'm just waiting to see what the week will bring :) but absolutely delighted to be back in the 12's.

Fraaahnces · 03/05/2023 13:52

Well done @DaisyDieter! I put two kgs on during the first two weeks. (Probably not drinking enough water and suffering the side-effects IYSWIM.) Anyhow, had my first 0.5ml this afternoon and didn’t want dinner. Guess that’s something. I made a curry for the family and couldn’t handle the smell once it was finished. Let’s hope this is a better week for weightloss.

You've still lost 4lb. There's a reason you should take the recommended dose and not just decide to 'up' it yourself.

@Kangarude I can see why you're kanga 'rude' for a reason. Mind your own business, I spoke to the person where I got the medication from.

Kangarude · 03/05/2023 17:31

That's not what you said in your post
Good luck to you DaisyDieter

MedievalMadness · 03/05/2023 17:33

DaisyDieter. That's a really great start. Good luck with 0.5. I got a message to say my next pen will be dispatched on 7 May . Waiting for the usual DPD fuck up with delivery. They're dreadful in our area.

Frances. Good luck with 0.5 too. Hope side effects are useful ones and you see some results .

I know my thyroid is dead so suspect that my metabolism has followed suit. Wonder if that’s why I basically under-eat and still get rounder…? Tedious. Meanwhile, I swear I can taste the medication for a few hours after I inject it. Weird.

DaisyDieter · 03/05/2023 17:41

@Fraaahnces Thyroid has a huge effect on metabolism and weight.

Fraaahnces · 03/05/2023 17:43

@DaisyDieter - mine gave up the ghost when I was 28. It’s been 22 years of battling this crap. (And other autoimmune rubbish.)

CarlieH · 03/05/2023 18:47

I have just started Ozempic 0.5mg & I feel like it’s not working! I was previously on Saxenda & I’d been taking that for just over a year & lost 4st! I’ve heard about Ozempic & still want to lose more weight so thought I’d change over to it, I don’t know if it’s my mind tricking me into thinking Ozempic is not working because I’m not injecting every day like I was with the Saxenda or it is working & I just need to give it more time! I know it’s literally my first injection, my 2nd one will be Saturday & then after the 4th I’ll move up to 1mg. I just wanted some advice, reassurance or anything really to let me know I’m not going mad & it will work??

MedievalMadness · 03/05/2023 18:55

CarlieH. Wow . You've done so well so far. Have you posted on the other current ozemic thread? If not you might get more info/advice on there as on here we are all new starters and I don't think anyone has moved from Saxenda to Ozempic. If there are there's prob only a few. I really hope you find Ozempic starts to work for you and you can lose the weight you want.

I really hope it does too! I’ve had a look through but can’t find the latest Ozempic thread. I’ll keep looking x

Its so interesting to read everyones posts/updates.

Wednesday so update day from me.

Today is my third weigh in and my 4th dose. I have lost 2lb this week, so that makes a total of a 12lb loss over 3 weeks. I have my 0.5 pen ready but my 0.25 pen still looks almost full so im going to stick with 0.25 doses for now as im not feeling hungry until tea time. I have my extra needles ready. Havent had any adverse side effects apart from waking in the night (usually only once). I only eat one meal a day and no snacks usually. Still walking 3 miles most days.

Aiming for another 2lb this coming week to get me to a stone loss.

Q U E S T I O N

Does anyone know how many clicks for 0.25 dose? I keep forgetting to count the clicks for when I need to start using my 0.5 pen.

mumwheresmyribena · 03/05/2023 19:52

@PinkCosYouAreSoVery 18 clicks is 0.25mg

PinkCosYouAreSoVery · 03/05/2023 19:55

@mumwheresmyribena Wonderful, thank you so much!

PinkCosYouAreSoVery. You are doing so well for 3 weeks. 12 lbs is an amazing result. You must be so pleased. Good luck moving up a dose. I hope the only side effects are good ones 🤞🏼

@Hopingandhopping I found that too my last week of 0.25 I really felt the effects wearing off. With the 0.5mg they came back loss of appetite, tolerating only small portions etc. I have had awful nausea. Just taken my second 0.5mg tonight so I'm hoping my nausea isn't so severe xx
