Ozempic new starters thread

Wondering if anyone would like to join me starting Ozempic. I’m doing my first injection tonight and am very nervous about reactions/side effects. I’m 5’ and 10.5 stones with very high blood pressure which medication is struggling yo bring down, high cholesterol and arthritis.

I would like to get to 9 stones realistically and ideally 8.5. I do seem to have unusual reactions to some medication so am really hoping I can take this without too many problems as I’m sure I’d be far healthier minus a couple stones.

Thanks guys ♥️

I think I was just being a stroppy brat yesterday. I know my bathroom scales are crap so why I take notice of them I don’t know! Plus my whole attitude to food has completely changed for the better and my energy levels are up so it’s definitely doing positive changes for me and I need to focus on that. Second jab today. I’m still excited about it, just need to cure the constipation issue!

Hopingandhopping · 30/04/2023 17:02

Third jab done today. Going good so far, 12 lbs off so far.
Bit confused about my ozempic pen though, I have used it three times now so in theory should only have one more dose left in the pen, but the fluid level has hardly gone down, it looks nearly full, is that right? Suddenly worried that I've not been injecting right and nothing has been going in! (There is always a droplet on the needle ahead of injecting, so the fluid is getting through the needle by the look of it, and I'm pretty sure that I've noticed effects of the jab...)
So it looks like I have loads left in the pen?? If so can I carry on injecting from the same pen until it's used up?? I've ordered some more needles. Just confused because it looks almost full still.
.

Hi everyone! Weigh day here!

13st 1 today so I’m down 2 pound this week. Feeling positive and hopefully will be in the 12’s next Sunday!

kkr168 · 30/04/2023 17:59

@Hopingandhopping it's worth ready back through the thread because this has been answered multiple times, sorry if this sounds rude, it isn't intended to be.
There are 8 doses of .25 in the pen, so you can do your 1st 4 weeks at .25 then up to .50 for the next 2 weeks. Me personally if .25 is still working I'll continue with that for as long as possible.

Thanks for the information, very helpful. I was also wondering why my pen still has so much liquid in it though, which your post and previous posts doesn't really answer.

Twilightstarbright · 01/05/2023 07:08

@Hopingandhopping I’m not sure any of us can answer that without seeing the pen and witnessing you injecting yourself. I’ve done three doses of 0.25 and it still looks full.

I had a great success yesterday. I was out for a birthday and it was a set menu thing. I ordered ice cream and had two mouthfuls, decided I thought it tasted like cheap horrible and left it. I’ve never had that before. I would always eat all the dessert because I had such a sweet tooth.

It's helpful to hear that your pen still looks very full after three injections

Fraaahnces · 01/05/2023 14:41

I am feeling absolutely no symptoms at the 0.25mg. I am going to up my dose early. I realise that this is not advisable, but I am on week three and this is bloody ridiculous.

Twilightstarbright · 01/05/2023 20:05

@Fraaahnces have you listened to the Zoe podcast? It explains about the doses but in general they think you need to be on at least
1mg for it to be therapeutic but some people lose weight on lower doses- luck of the draw. You build up the dose to help your body tolerate it. Be patient, Wegovy is prescribed up to 2.9mg so 0.25mg may not do much at all as it’s 10% of that.

MedievalMadness · 02/05/2023 06:32

I feel your impatience to see results Fraances and have to confess to sneaking in an extra shot of 0.25 as I was starting to feel hungry again. That seems to have curbed my appetite more. I can see the temptation . I suppose you could try 0.5 earlier and see what happens. I know it’s not what we are supposed to be doing though.

Sorry if this has been answered but why do they put so much extra in the pen but tell you it contains 4 doses? (Of 0.25) Do we know the reason?

Cheaper to manufacture, the 0.25 and the 0.5 pens can then be the same with different labels considering they’re making far fewer of them than the 1mg pens. The cost of the extra liquid must be less than making a smaller pen and the extra complications of filling it.

Franklin2000 · 02/05/2023 08:10

@Fraaahnces , what does a typical day look like for you food wise? Are you tracking your calories? I use my fitness pal and allow myself 1200 calories a day. I’m quite strict with this as I tend to forget what I’ve had which makes it impossible to keep track of. I also drink loads of water throughout the day.

BellsandSmells · 02/05/2023 08:43

Thanks sameiam interesting to know.

I spoke to my GP and have upped my dose. I had a latte this afternoon and was fairly convinced I was going to throw up out the window. Seems it’s working now. (Tbf, I rarely have coffee with milk)

hotelmotelpremierinn · 02/05/2023 10:49

Not read the whole thread so apols if this has been answered already - what are the best things to eat to avoid the nausea? I'm only on first dose of 0.25 a few days ago but I'm finding that I'm feeling really nauseous. I want to try and eat things that will reduce this. Thanks

Fraaahnces · 02/05/2023 11:11

I managed to eat two eggs this morning and had a cup of tea with a dash of milk. I have been thirsty but nauseous all afternoon. I can’t imagine eating atm, but have some raspberries I can put into some soda water.

BelBabe · 02/05/2023 13:10

Bit late with my week 1 update. 2lb down which is good and luckily I've had no real side effects.
But like you @MedievalMadness I really feel like my 2nd dose isn't working. I took it on Sunday and literally nothing. My appetite is completely normal, if anything I'm hungrier than usual!

However I haven't had any chocolate/crisps/ fizzy drinks since my first dose which is great for me, I love nothing more than a wee chocolate in the evening to watch my trash TV.

I think I'll treat the 0.25mg as just a starter baseline to get it into my system I'm not expecting major loses until I up my dosage

I haven't posted here much, but I have been reading everyone's updates it's so nice to see how every's journey is going

SarahC50 · 02/05/2023 15:18

@Hopingandhopping yes it throws you a bit the excess fluid left. I too 4x0.25mg doses out of my pen as advised by juniper and there is loads left. I ordered a new pen to start the 0.5mg but I do believe some people take extra doses out of the excess fluid in the pen. I read somewhere it's so that mistakes with injecting mean there is still liquid left. Good luck how are you finding it x

SarahC50 · 02/05/2023 15:20

@hotelmotelpremierinn sorry to hear you are nauseous I was too on the 0.25 and hellishly so when started 0.5 last week. I found upping my flies and forcing myself to nibble on toast helped. I found it a bit like morning sickness, you don't want to eat but you feel slightly better when you do xx

SarahC50 · 02/05/2023 15:24

Fluids not flies!!!

from what I understand starting at 0.25 is just to try get your system used to the drug with minimal side effects and that some people find they lose weight pretty soon after starting but many don’t as it’s not a therapeutic dose.

Thank you yes this is how I've been finding it. I had a tangerine this morning and felt worse. But then I had lunch and was better. I was just wondering if there are any foods more likely to set off the nausea.

I feel extremely drained and tired as well - anyone else?
