Starting a new thread as we are dangerously close to finishing thread two. So great to have this supportive community to share our experiences of taking Ozempic for weightloss.

"Old-timers" and new starters all welcome!

Well,I had my first 1mg dose this week. Did it on Thursday as I was going out with friends on Friday. I ate two small rolls on Friday daytime then met my friends at 5 for cocktails. We decided to get churros as we always do and I ate two, despite still feeling full. BAD IDEA!!! Embarrassingly, as we went to the next bar, I said that I felt uncomfortably full and a bit odd. Ended up being sick in the street 😳 It was only 7pm and I wasn't drunk. I stayed out for a bit longer, but went home about 9 as I wasn't in the mood anymore. I now know not to eat if I'm already full, no matter how tasty the churros are!!

On the positive side, my appetite is very small so hopefully next week I'll have started losing again!

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 06/03/2023 09:40

Someone I haven’t seen for a while noticed that I have lost weight today 😃

theproblemchild · 06/03/2023 09:50

@SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun 🤩 that's great, what a lovely feeling that must be and no doubt a little boost too 💪

It’s just re-learning those natural hunger and fullness cues I think. Babies and young children (and if you watch your pets, it’s interesting) eat when they are hungry and stop when they are full. As we get older, environmental factors mess that up.

Sad for you that you were sick in the street; that sounds awful; but positive to take this from it and now it’s done and won’t happen again!

all the best with your treatment x

I have definitely learnt my lesson! I've never been sick from eating too much before so it was a bit of a shock and resulted in me "coming out" to my friends about being on Ozempic. I think the worst bit was the students cheering me as they walked past, obviously thinking some middle aged woman couldn't handle her alcohol 😂

Article in The Guardian that may be of interest.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/mar/05/england-weight-loss-drug-appetite-semaglutide-diabetes

I have to say that while my appetite is much reduced and in the first few weeks I really wasn't interested in, or enjoying, food that isn't the case now.

In fact I have a renewed interest in cooking new, interesting and healthy meals and I can enjoy them knowing that I will only eat as much as I need to before I stop. I used to really struggle to leave food even when I was full, I felt deprived if I did but now it's like having an off switch. I just stop with no emotional attachment to what I'm eating. I'm guessing that this is how it feels to be "normal" around food not disordered.

I took my first dose on Friday and have noticed I have a slightly reduced appetite and massively reduced sugar cravings which is great. But there's something else I've noticed too and wanted to see if anyone else was the same.

Other than food, I have 2 other vices - diet coke and vaping (although I'm ashamed to say the vaping is a fairly new thing and not a long held habit). But I haven't had a craving for either since I took the Oz on Friday. Has anyone else noticed that? Surely it can't be related.

Have you guys noticed what it says at the bottom of the article? It’s weird. The whole article talks about her using Ozempic (semaglutide) and then it says:

‘This article was amended on 5 March 2023. An earlier subheading said that Leila Latif took semaglutide for diabetes, but she is not using that medication and does not have diabetes’

I reckon the bit at the bottom was written by so done who doesn’t understand Ozempic is semaglutide? X

Yes! I have an occasional smoking habit. Maybe 5 a week in total. However my cravings for those have dwindled completely which is great.

I also feel a lot more level in mood too. Maybe I was hangry too often.

suphi · 06/03/2023 12:03

There's quite a bit of anecdotal evidence emerging that it effects addictions/compulsions. I was reading this the other day about it affecting reward centres in the brain. www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnbeh.2020.614884/full

suphi · 06/03/2023 12:05

"Affects" not "effects". My brain can spell but my fingers can't 🙄

Mumonamission123 · 06/03/2023 12:12

Hi, I'm currently on week 9 on 1mg and have had a terribly upset stomach since the higher dose (last Thursday) has anyone else had this and does this pass? Appetite suppression is brilliant but I just feel rubbish

orangelotus · 06/03/2023 12:18

i had a few days last week where i thought i had a virus. freezing shivering nausea and abdominal pains but i think it was the increase in dose .
i'm fine now but very tired in the evening s - weight loss has stalled at the moment but from what others have said that seems routine x
I imagine if the appetite suppression is good at 0.5mgs is there a good reason to increase?
mine was wearing off so i have gone up but thinking maybe 0.5 twice a week or every four days might be easier to manage?

Lavendersquare · 06/03/2023 12:39

Day 6 for me and for the first time I can gel myself getting hungry, have been counting down until lunch today - something I haven't done since taking my first dose last week.

PSNonsense · 06/03/2023 12:50

Going to have a good proper read of this thread later but I ordered the starter dose via Manual and it arrives tomorrow. Very excited to start. I've got a shift working job that can be full on at times so I'm hoping my side effects will be minimal.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 06/03/2023 13:11

Interesting that GLP-1 might affect the consumption of other addictive substances as well. I don’t find the same effect as described in the guardian article thank goodness. I still enjoy food but just can’t eat as much of it.

RumNotRun - sorry about your experience with the Churros. I have come close to this a few times after parkruns and it is embarrassing isn’t it. Hopefully as our bodies get used to the drug and we learn what works these things won’t happen any more.

Lavendersquare · 06/03/2023 13:26

If anyone wants a £50 code off for Juniper drop me a message, they've just sent me a referral code. I get a £50 voucher as well for full disclosure.

I think side effects of nausea/vomiting/abdominal pains/upset stomach/constipation/extreme tiredness are very common on Ozempic.

I personally experienced all of them apart from the upset stomach. For most people they will pass or improve as your body adjusts to the drug but not everyone I guess.

OzzyOzworn · 06/03/2023 14:07

weightymatters73 · 06/03/2023 07:08

on a separate note, I used the 0.25 for 4 injections. Then did 0.25 twice (so essentially 6 injections out of one pen...and there is still some left.

how many ML is it injecting each time?? I know there is 1.5ml in the pen.

So you can do 0.5 with it next time then start on the next pen at 0.5…

IAmBreathingIn · 06/03/2023 14:12

Hi all. Welcome to the new starters ☺️ well done on the losses 👏🏻 and stick with it to those plateauing 💪🏻

I'm on week 8 and have been taking 0.5mg for a while. The past two days I have been very nauseous and had a dicky tummy, and I was wondering what has caused it so out of the blue. The only foods I can think of which might have triggered it are coffee or avocado - has anybody else experienced this with these foods, or got any advice in general? Thank you 🙏🏻

weightymatters73 · 06/03/2023 14:19

theproblemchild · 06/03/2023 08:23

I've further found that each 0.25mg dose is administered as just 0.19ml ...

Hmm - so there are 7.9 doses of 0.25mg

enough for 1 month (4 doses) of 0.25, then one 0.50mg and one more at just under 0.50mg

Then the next one will do "just" 4 doses at 0.5mg

Start it the night before your day off. So you can sleep through any really early side effects and have the next day to deal with whatever it has in store for you.

If you have a busy shift job and you’re feeling severe nausea or vomiting, it won’t be pleasant. Make sure you time it wisely and you will have a better experience. X

tregunamekoidestrecorumsatisdee · 06/03/2023 15:08

The heartburn since going up to 0.50mg is unreal. I literally drank some water this morning and it still feels like acid. I hope this settles down

pearlandperidot · 06/03/2023 15:32

Have been reading along and quietly impressed.

Day 5 today and definitely feeling hungrier than I have been although my planned 1600 calories seems doable still (this may seem like a high calorie amount to some but I'm big (as in tall) and have previously struggled to even cut to 1800 cals)

I think tomorrow will be a struggle but is a double exercise day anyway so may allow myself an extra 100-150 cals.

Is everyone weighing every week? Contemplating trying not to weigh until the end of March - have previously found no loss/a smaller loss than planned extremely demotivating. But not sure if that a good idea, or even if I could manage that!
