"I Started Ozempic Last Night" THREAD THREE

1000 replies

Athena51 · 16/02/2023 08:44

Starting a new thread as we are dangerously close to finishing thread two. So great to have this supportive community to share our experiences of taking Ozempic for weightloss.

"Old-timers" and new starters all welcome!

I'm sorry but I think ozempic isn't for you. It's not a kick start, it's a commitment. You don't have the BMI to need medication to lose weight. There are much better ways - ozempic won't give you motivation that you don't have from the beginning.

I guess he will have paid his doctor separately. Both he and Jeremy Clarkson sound like they have had an in-person consultation and checkup before getting a prescription to take to a pharmacy. It is probably more expensive altogether.

GiveMeStrength31 · 03/03/2023 19:19

It's definitely a kick start for lots of people! The kick start is what motivates you and keeps you committed

AlternativelyWired · 03/03/2023 19:38

@GiveMeStrength31 yes, if you fit the criteria which it sounds like you don't. Juniper offer meal replacement shakes for those who don't fit for ozempic. If you go to the website you can take the quiz and see if you qualify for ozempic but it doesn't sound like you do. A BMI of 27 isn't obese and it's a drug for obesity unless there are other significant conditions. From what I've read on threads they seem to require proof of your weight but other posters would be able to tell you more about the process. Failing that there are other supportive weight loss threads for those that are overweight and I'm sure you'd find them welcoming and helpful. You need a long term plan and at your bmi ozempic doesn't fit with that.

I’ve lost nearly another lb this week. I wasn’t sure I would have lost anything because I’ve been hungry this week and was bracing myself for a gain.

how nice to see you back !!
well done how much is that altogether now?
i believe I have lost a total of 21lbs since december but definitely have stalled and still have at least 3 stones to go. no one has noticed my weight loss although a couple of people have said that i look well.
This is my first week at 1mg no side effects as yet
i have committed to at least 6 months so v happy to keep going .
had bloods done at the gps ( who did approve of using the drug) and all good re cholesterol and potential diabetes / so relieved about that.
i've got a big holiday in 4 weeks so still hoping to get into overweight rather than obese for that.
Good luck to everyone xx

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 03/03/2023 20:18

Juniper will accept you if you have a BMI over 27.5 and are of certain ethnic backgrounds, due to increased risk of some conditions.

Brilliant. I was hoping it was still going well for you!

HermioneWeasley · 03/03/2023 20:24

Hi @Cozytoesandtoast00 and @orangelotus

its going really well, no side effects any more, just appetite suppression.

I’ve been on it for just over 5 months and I’ve lost about 20lbs, so slow and (mostly) steady progress - some periods of plateau in that

orangelotus · 03/03/2023 20:43

wonderful!! that's great to hear

I don't understand the meaning of your last comment? It reads that you are assuming she hasn't got the motivation to lose weight? The fact she is here researching this shows she is motivated.
I think there are lots of us who are using this as a kick start. If I don't lose weight now then i am in a dangerous situation. This is stopping me from eating and I think that is amazing. I understand completely what Jeremy has said in his article. I cannot see how some are still able to eat up to 1600 calories a day? 1600 is not even the old 'on a diet' levels. I only want to be on this for 3 months max and I want to get to my desired weight that has eluded me for years. I know then that i will be happier and healthier and will do everything I'm my power to keep it off. I have never been so excited and hopeful that maybe this summer I will want to be in a swimsuit playing with my kids on the beach.
There is a distinct hierarchy in this thread. Those who have diabetes, those who have it prescribed and then those that are motivated enough to do something about their weight before they get diabetes and need it on prescription. Let's just support everyone. We all know how hard it is to lose weight.

This comment is wrong on every level. Would be interested to know how many diets you tried before your BMI peaked to a level where you had to resort to Ozempic? I'm sure like most of us who are using Ozempic she has tried every diet under the sun. Shame this isn't a supportive weight loss thread like the others you mention.

Lavendersquare · 03/03/2023 22:33

Well at the end of my third full day on 0.25mg of ozempic I'm blown away by how unbothered by food I am.

For the first time ever I don't want breakfast, I'm eating one piece of fruit mid-morning, lunch is a small sandwich then nothing until 7pm when I eat about 2/3 of my usual amount for dinner. I'm actually not grazing between meals or craving snacks. This is quite something and so far no side effects, all very positive so far Smile

HermioneWeasley · 03/03/2023 22:40

Great news @Lavendersquare

Circa1840 · 03/03/2023 22:43

That's great @Lavendersquare sounds similar to my experience. May there be no side effects for a good while yet!

tregunamekoidestrecorumsatisdee · 03/03/2023 22:45

Week 5 and I'm 17 pounds down. Im really noticing the difference in myself but other people aren't yet. Unfortunately I've started to get some crepey skin already which I was really really hoping to avoid. Im thinking the loss might slow down a bit now which would help it. I still have another 70 pounds until my ultimate target.

Circa1840 · 03/03/2023 22:51

Wow @tregunamekoidestrecorumsatisdee that is amazing for 5 weeks. What an achievement.

Doesn't the daily calorie total for a loss depend on the weight of the person?

I've had days where I've eaten 1600. Although I have to admit the last few days have been 1200-1300. But if 1600 is comfortable and they can still lose weight, and maintain that weight loss for a long time then that's great. Some people might want to be the tortoise in their race to lose weight!

I agree that this thread should be supportive for everyone. And I think you are right about the hierarchy thing. I'm all about people doing what is right for themselves.

I'd only really worry about people who have eating disorders taking Ozempic. I was anorexic as a teenager and I'm very careful now to assess my emotions regarding losing weight even though my bmi is 36 now! I weighed 7 stone in my late teens but couldn't see how small I was. I worry that the availability to buy online might cause big problems to people with eating disorders.

I think some people are just concerned about people who are taking this when they may not need as there are risks associated with it.
i'm in the overweight camp and was only prescribed it because of my ethnic background.
i'm hoping I get support here when I'm near to my goal weight (middle of a normal weight range) as I want to stay in it for a couple more months to ensure behavioural change has stuck!

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 04/03/2023 07:15

Just to clarify, I was about 4lbs from the obese BMI range. I'm now 5lbs from being in the normal weight range.

Thats fab.i started with a bmi of 31 so have a long way to go to get to a healthy bmi. I need to shift 3 stone at least. Hoping to do it in 3/4 months. You are all amazing inspiration that it can be done.x
