Starting a new thread as we are dangerously close to finishing thread two. So great to have this supportive community to share our experiences of taking Ozempic for weightloss.

"Old-timers" and new starters all welcome!

I'm on second full day of ozempic and have seen a huge drop in my appetite so gave eaten a lot less than I normally would have.

However I've just eaten some chocolate (I know, I know) not masses about 6 squares and I now feel quite nauseous, is this how ozempic works? Or is this unrelated 🤷🏻‍♀️

That’s Ozempic teaching you that 6 squares is actually quite a lot sadly:/ x

definitely all
medications have undesirable effects i think we all know that. Even paracetamol can be horribly lethal if taken incorrectly. But we can all buy that easily alongside our daily shopping.
I hear your warnings ( FYI potassium is an electrolyte in terms of monitoring blood results)
So what are your solutions?
Do we wait until we all have type 2 diabetes and can be monitored by our GPs?
interested in your solutions for obesity.
Because i'd really rather not take expensive drugs with zero medical oversight but unfortunately for the majority of us in the UK on here with BMIS of over 30 but not yet a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes who have tried all conventional methods of treating weight loss our options seem very limited.

Just 1lb off for me this week which brings my total loss to 9lb since I started on 13th feb. I was hoping for a bigger loss this week (because I’m inpatient!) as I’ve been a lot more active however I am seeing a big difference in my clothes so I think I’ve lost inches. I bought a dress from mango that I couldn’t even get on before I started and it now fits comfortably! Also my big duvet coat which I could zip up if standing but had to unzip when I sat down I can now leave done up all the time so that’s good because it is bloody freezing on the bus! The place I’m seeing the biggest change is my tummy, particularly under my boobs if that makes sense?! So upper belly and lower belly are shrinking. I’m taking my kids swimming this weekend and have a lovely size 14 costume which I tried on for dh last night and got a “you look GOOD” reaction! So feeling like things are slowly but surely moving in the right direction. I’m not seeing the dramatic losses some are but I’m happy with my progress as I want to keep this weight off.

Ozempic is in the Times today Here. Seems strange to me how both this guy and Jeremy Clarkson describe eating so little on it. Maybe they are exaggerating? Or maybe men react a bit differently? Interesting about the sugar cravings at the end of the article. Especially as we have been saying they go away. I have cracked again with sugar in the last few days after a week off it. Probably normal for me anyway but I do wonder if there could be something in it.

Maybe they are getting higher doses? Maybe if you have a lot of ££ you can get wegovy from US pharmacies somehow? I do wonder how the slebs are using it for extreme weight loss such as kim K getting into Marilyn's dress; you couldn't take 0.25mg for a month and lose 20lbs from healthy starting weight could you?! Unless they are all getting much higher doses but then they would be sick as dogs for the whole time if they went in at a high dose...I don't know

leilani83 · 03/03/2023 08:15

Funny thing - from beginning of Feb my weight stayed much the same, I only lost 800g in three and a bit weeks, but in the last 5 days I've lost 1.6kg!! Not complaining though...

Thanks for sharing the Times article @SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun I think it's a well written and balanced piece.

I feel desperate too. Did you have terrible side effects?

Obviously no one on here is in a position to recommend lying to a doctor (as in the doctor/HCP who signs off your online prescription.) However, I think this one really depends. Do you have anything else going on with you making it harder for you to lose weight? Examples include being on steroids, being on atypical antipsychotics, having an under active thyroid etc

If not, I think BMI 27 is just a smidgen off normal. You are just barely overweight honestly. It really will be maybe a few kgs and you can achieve it without taking a diabetes injection- it’s serious stuff. Some people get outrageous side effects and others don’t but it’s also a big financial commitment with no technical end date.

If you’re overweight by virtue of meds/autoimmune/epigenetics and you have tried everything to lose weight, I would recommend talking to a specialist endocrinologist because sometimes they prescribe at lower weights in these kinds of circumstances.

Hope this is helpful. Honestly 27 is nothing in the overweight spectrum: you can do it. X

themuminator · 03/03/2023 10:24

1st week results are in:
3.6lbs lost. Effects did not wear off during the week - hunger still managed by the 6th day. Slight bottom problems now! Will need to invest in lactulose. 2nd dose today.

It's not a huge loss but I'm ok with that. I don't expect a magic bullet. This will take time and tenacity.

Gym induction on Monday.

Keep going everyone. You can do it!

RebelGeek76 · 03/03/2023 10:28

Hi everyone, just catching up. Took my first 0.5mg dose on Wednesday and have lost 9lbs so far in 4 weeks. Was feeling like the loss was a little slow but looking back at my weight trackers when doing keto twice before I've lost slightly more on ozempic over the same period. The nausea I'm noticing tends to be in mornings when I don't eat anything as I try to fast until lunchtime most days, so if it gets to the point of bothering me I'll break my fast earlier. I am feeling the urge to snack some evenings and if I do cave, stick to something non-carby like nuts or cheese but am wondering if I should try to eat a little more in the day to combat this.

Still not told DP, don't think he'll be judgemental but he has no filter sometimes so can't trust him not to blurt it out to others.

Mumsdaword1 · 03/03/2023 15:21

@themuminator well done on the loss. I had a similar loss on week 1 and im glad to see someone losing a similar amount. I havent lost any in week 2 but it is a marathon not race.

@RebelGeek76 9 lb is amazing for 0.25 dose. You're over half way to a stone. Keep it up. Sounds like you are eating healthy and actively thinking about the choices. I feel it is ok to snack and not feel guilt. I feel a lot of guilt/failure which i need to shake off and start accepting it is ok to have a nibble and snack. Taking oz has helped me to eat better and snack within limits especially in the evenings.

Has anyone fudged their BMI to get hold of Ozempic? Mine is 27 so think I may be refused?

No I didn't but my BMI was slightly lower than most people (29)
I don't have any other health issues but was very worried about the upward trend of my weight and had tried for years to lose the weight with limited success. This was making me very anxious and low in mood. My genetics and background also make me susceptible to T2D.
I had to send a photo and was then approved by Juniper. I've lost 1.5 stone and still in the overweight category. I have 5lb to go until I'm in the normal weight category.
I wouldn't go into this lightly. I track my blood sugar's and get blood tests done via the GP. I also limit alcohol and make sure I'm getting enough protein.

I can understand not wanting to tell your partner. I have only told one person (I don't have a partner) and won't tell my children (one adult and one older teen).

9lbs in 4 weeks is a very good and steady loss.

@GiveMeStrength31 thats another thing to be aware of is that you may receive a request for a photo or a photo of you with the scales visible from various suppliers so I guess what I am saying is it’s best to be honest, especially when it’s your health at stake. If it goes wrong you’ve got no support team if you fudge your weight and your GP /Consultant isn’t monitoring you. You don’t want to be in that situation.

GiveMeStrength31 · 03/03/2023 16:13

Ah yes that’s where I could come unstuck. What support do they offer you ? Are they likely to refuse me if I tell truth about BMI of 27? Thanks!

I think they will refuse you, yes.

GiveMeStrength31 · 03/03/2023 16:23

How do you track your blood sugar? When you were honest about bmi did they then ask for a photo? Can I please ask which company you used? Did you have to tell your doctor? Sorry for all the questions!

No probs!
I use Juniper and they agreed to it when I logged in my details. But then asked for a photo before it was finalised.
I use a normal blood glucose monitor to check if my blood sugar is too low ( a potential side effect)
I just ask my GP for for bloods to check potassium levels. I've only done this once and will ask again in a couple of months.

GiveMeStrength31 · 03/03/2023 16:38

Oh ok . Is that a finger prick test. Is GP ok about you asking? I am very tempted to see how far I will get with a small lie😬
