Dried apricots could work, they always make me go.

Sorry if I’ve missed something but is this a medication for diabetes that people are now using to loose weight?

Yes, why?

SameToo · 22/02/2023 10:16

@MaireadMcSweeney clarification.

God this constipation is making me miserable! I’m taking psyllium husk fibre three times a day and senna tablets at night…nothing! I only get relief if I take actual constipation medication and I don’t want to keep doing that. Help!

Kiwis are also good

polopolopolopoo · 22/02/2023 10:35

Very happy today as weight loss happening again after a week of gains. It was so disheartening bc I was sticking to the plan rigidly, but relieved now that I'm on the move again. I hate that it's not linear!!!!

polopolopolopoo · 22/02/2023 10:37

Thanks for all the protein powder recommendations 🙏

same i'm
seeing 3 lbs on !! which i cannot see why have been calorie counting so hopefully something will happen soon.

polopolopolopoo · 22/02/2023 11:09

@orangelotus it's so frustrating isn't it? I couldn't be more on a diet but gaining weight, so confusing.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 22/02/2023 12:42

I am having a frustrating plateau at the moment. I guess half term didn’t help. I am back on the no sugar wagon again as of yesterday so no pancakes for me sadly.

UK meds processed my refund promptly last week so a brownie point for them on that score.

Prettybubblesintheair · 22/02/2023 12:51

I’ll try apricots but I feel like if senna and psyllium husk aren’t getting me going natural remedies aren’t going to cut it. It’s miserable!

HolibobsinApril · 22/02/2023 13:00

For those of you who have been on this for a while, does the tiredness ease? I'm absolutely exhausted!

Perhaps try a sachet or two of Laxido or movicol to get things moving if it is that severe to hopefully feel more comfortable. Good luck!

Month two I was pretty much back to normal. I'm still tired, but I'm not going to bed at the same time as the kids everyday.

My appetite also increased in month two which might be related.

I had to take Dulcolax yesterday, I feel wrung out today after it so Im hoping to avoid using it again. I'm getting loads of fibre and drinking water it's so annoying.

Remember Ozempic will only work for a sub-set of people as it is a GLP-1 agonist. If naturally that receptor is already maxed out (working) then you probably won’t notice a change in weight.
That said, many people have struggled to lose weight naturally without knowing that receptor was playing a part and that’s why it works for them.

orangelotus · 22/02/2023 19:41

could you please explain that a little more or point me in the right direction of reading more?

Make sure you are eating enough. I find the tiredness worse if I'm not properly fuelled. And it's so easy to not eat on this medication!

If you Google "how does semaglutide work" then discount anything from a newspaper or crappy magazine you'll get some good info. It'll talk mainly about people with type 2 diabetes, or insulin resistance but remember that for those whom this medication works probably have a degree of one or both of those without knowing it!

I might be wrong, but I’m fairly sure I read that the natural GLP-1 our bodies release in response to eating has an incredibly short half life (minutes) whereas ozempic is giving a continuous stream. So no one could be ‘maxed out’ naturally since the natural half life is so rapid - from what I have read, some people not having the desired results is the the same as other medication, where a certain % of people simply will not have the desired outcome. Also worth noting that in studies using semaglutide for obesity treatment, the treatment dose was 2.4mg - as wegovy isn’t available in the Uk yet and most of us are using ozempic (both are semaglutide just licensed for different uses) and aren’t near to the 2.4mg clinically indicated dose for losing weight (although loads of us are still having success on lower amounts).

From what I have read it’s not the GLP-1 issues which people have issues with, it’s more being insulin resistant (which ozempic helps with hugely, by making our bodies respond more effectively to high blood sugar, decreasing insulin resistance). So theoretically, individuals who are more insulin resistant could see better results from this type of med. The delayed gastric emptying (which is a side effect which wears off over time) also contributes to someone’s satiety levels increasing, but with using semaglutide long term it is more the insulin/blood sugar regulating and GLP-1 aspects which cause the weight loss.

Happy to be corrected re people having maxed out GLP-1 receptors not responding to ozempic, but that isn’t something which I have heard of yet.

Cappuccinopup · 22/02/2023 20:11

I have had a splitting headache since going up a dose from .5 to .75/1mg. It’s horrible, a real stabbing sensation. Has anyone else experienced this? Hoping it will wear off soon, paracetamol hasn’t made a dent in it!

I was tempted to take these, went as far as ordering a pack off Amazon then read some reviews online about them being rather explosive which put me off 😂 have you tried Fybogel? I am having a couple of these a day and they seem to be helping so far.

Dulcolax Is a stimulant so may give people an unpleasant feeling with cramps etc, where as laxido or movicol is osmotic, adding more fluid to the colon to help move things along, allowing for an easier passage... the suppositories rely on the stool being more 'bottom end' to empty.. they may help relieve some symptoms but not always the 'problem'..
