Day 1 on saxenda

I thought I’d start a new thread to follow my journey, the other one doesn’t seem very active. During lockdown, I lost 2 stone but since life has regained pace again, it’s gone up by 3 and a half stone. I just have no control over my eating habits anymore.

I binge, I fast, I feel incredibly unhappy and I use food as my crutch. I do exercise four times a week but the weight just doesn’t shift because I’m eating too much

In the next 12 months, I am hoping to be able to have a child as a solo parent by choice and I know the only way to do that is to lose some weight and keep it off.

Today is the day. I injected this morning after much apprehension and it was fine ! I didn’t even feel it. So far so good, no side effects but im sure they’ll come after a few days.

I’ll keep this thread updated with the good, the bad and the ugly ! Feel free to join with your own experiences.

@furball thanks for the tip :-)

frostyfeb · 26/03/2023 21:14

@HarpQuartet it's great meal prepping and I also use chewing gum, but actually I've been chewing so much my jaw hurts 😂

I can't actually face a lot of my normal food. I usually eat a lot of curries, chilli, spicy food using SlimmingWorld recipes but I just can't stomach them at the moment. So basically been living off chicken, roasted new potatoes and either salad or brocolli

I don't really feel I have any symptoms from the saxenda but if I eat anything too rich (like cake last week and smoked salmon) I feel nauseous and get horrible stomach cramps

HarpQuartet · 26/03/2023 21:41

@frostyfeb I've been scrolling through the thread and you must be so pleased with your weight loss! I don't think I'd mind having a limited diet and achy jaw if it works as well for me.

frostyfeb · 26/03/2023 22:25

@HarpQuartet thanks I am really happy. It's 1st 7lbs so far and it's been amazing. I am nervous about the weight loss being too fast and having too much loose skin!

It's hard too as food is just so much part of my life, eating with my family and friends. I'm still ordering food when I go out but only eating 1/4 so yesterday we went out for coffee and had 1/4 toasted tea cake. The only problem is my DH is eating the rest, which is not great for him !

gobbleguts · 27/03/2023 10:44

I lost 10lbs in 6 weeks which I was happy with, pens ran out so I've had two weeks off, appetite back with a vengeance and I still have 1 stone ish to lose so I ordered more pens and started again last night, I had managed to get to 2.4 dose before running out so I've started again at 1.2mg but been vomiting this morning so I do not feel good Envy definitely no chance of me wanting to eat any food at all feeling like this! Wondering whether to drop the dose down tonight!

Ashwater · 27/03/2023 15:12

Hi everyone

I’m now 6 weeks into my Sax journey and I’ve lost a stone, added to the 10lbs lost in Jan that’s 24lbs overall. I’m about half way to my target weight.

It feels like a real slog and I’ve had some ups and downs. I have totally given up booze while on Sax as the heartburn and sickness isn’t worth it. I’ve not been following a particularly good diet the last couple of weeks, averaging between 900-1000 calories a day but definitely could be making better choices.

I plan to prioritise my diet over the next few days and reintroduce the healthy habits I’d started. Hope you are all well.

frostyfeb · 29/03/2023 23:08

Week 5 and total loss is 1st 9. I'm still only on 1.8 dose which is good too, and just can't believe how much easier it is to have 'will power' when I'm not constantly hungry

sleepwouldbenice · 01/04/2023 23:58

How's everyone doing
I had lost 9 lb after 10 days which is motivating although realise easily regained !
Currently on 1.2 dose, up to 1.8 tomorrow
Queasiness easing
Just feels v odd to eat so little. I might need to check I am eating enough really

Namechange602 · 09/04/2023 11:07

Hi - only namechanged as want to be more private about this.

I'm two weeks in on Saxenda and 9.5lbs down, which I'm pleased about.

I did a week on the 0.6 dose and then upped it to 0.6 plus 5 'clicks', so 0.9. I was planning to do a few days on that then up to 1.2 but it's fine so I'm going to stay on that because I don't want to take more than I need.

I'm not tracking calorie intake but I am being careful with what I eat. As I'm eating less, what I consume needs to be healthy and I'm taking a multivit as well just to shore that up a little. I generally have a two-egg omelette for lunch with mushrooms, spinach, cherry tomatoes etc in it. For dinner I have what the family are having, only a smaller helping. So salmon fillets with potatoes and veg, I'll eat most of the salmon and plenty of veg but skip the spuds. I don't eat breakfast and I don't feel any desire to snack.

What's interesting is that I'm not feeling peckish late morning, around 4pm or late in the evening so I think this must be helping to moderate my blood sugar spikes a little. Or maybe that's just psychosomatic?

I wasn't a heavy drinker but since being on Saxenda I haven't fancied an evening glass of wine. As someone said upthread wine is my Kryptonite and a gateway to late night snacking, so I'm glad I'm avoiding that.

I've struggled with my weight for years, ever since I put on masses with medication in my twenties and I think that's screwed up my metabolism. Saxenda is helping me to reset everything and if I can maintain a steady 3 to 4 pounds or so loss a week I'll be very happy.

Onward and downward, my friends! x

AngryAngel · 14/04/2023 16:20

Catching up on this thread, well done everybody your losses have been amazing! I only started today in the end because of holiday and some other stuff. It is just fantastic that you guys have lost so much in the time since I last checked in here, it doesn't seem long at all. Damnit, I could have been over a stone lighter already by the sounds of things! Is there any vegetarians here with tips on what to eat? Is anybody combining this with something like huel or protein shakes instead of "real" food?

Soloparenthelp · 14/04/2023 20:22

Sorry it’s taken me so long to check in. I’m still losing ! Hurrah ! So far I have lost 1 stone 8 lbs and 3.5 points down on my BMI !

It’s funny I’ve gone completely off booze as well. It just doesn’t interest me !

Hi everyone. So glad to find this thread. I lost 2 stone on Saxenda over 4 months. Came off about a month ago and the hunger is threatening to sabotage all the progress I made. I'd love to hear from others who managed to maintain and or lose more weight after Saxenda. ☺️

HarpQuartet · 16/04/2023 20:03

@MMC20 (and same question to anyone else willing to answer), could I ask how many pens of Saxenda you went through over the 4 months? I feel like I might be limiting my weight loss progress by wanting to stick to small doses so that I don't get through the three pens I bought too quickly. From memory they were £50 each, and I don't feel like I can afford for them only to last a few days each.

MMC20 · 16/04/2023 21:32

@HarpQuartet . I ordered 15 in total. They come in boxes of three at Boots so 5 orders as such. I was able to tolerate the higher doses as time went on and importantly needed them as felt the cravings come back quite a lot once the nausea subsided and my body got used to the doses. Of course this is my individual biology but I think if you find you need to up the dose to keep making progress that's well worth it. The challenge is maintaining the gains

Namechange602 · 17/04/2023 09:48

Just finished week 3. Only 2lbs this week but it's TOTM so that doesn't help. But 11.5lbs in total which is not to be sniffed at. If I can hit a stone in the next week I'll be really chuffed.

Upped dose to 1.2. Fruit and a Babybel at lunchtime or scrambled egg on a slice of toast if I'm especially hungry. Healthy, smaller portions in the evening. No breakfast as I rarely do anyway, plenty of cups of tea as usual. Tried a low fat protein yoghut last week as potential lunhctime snack and nearly threw up after first mouthful so that's a no from me.

Good luck this week everyone!

How do people find cheese generally. I am a big cheese head (quite literally at the moment, lol) but I suspect it is going to be too rich?

AngryAngel · 17/04/2023 12:15

Day 3? 4? I genuinely don't feel any different. Very strange. Hoping I'm injecting correctly!

I haven't fancied strong cheeses but Babybel or mild brie with grapes is a good lunch for me. Giving up cheese completely would be awful!

How's your appetite? What are you eating? Are you getting full sooner than before?

You might find it doesn't kick in until you're on a higher dose. The 0.6 one is more to get your body used to the meds before increasing it to a more therapeutic level.

Breaca · 17/04/2023 13:18

So glad I found this thread! I started on Saxenda about 3 weeks ago and lost 3lbs but have maintained ever since. Appetite has definitely decreased and I'm mindful of what I eat but weight doesn't seem to be shifting.

I tried to twice to go up to 1.2 but had horrendous nausea that wouldn't settle over days so just dropped back to the 0.6. Maybe I need to go in between the two?

AngryAngel · 17/04/2023 13:20

Thanks @Namechange602 , I'm not sure. I have been consciously trying to eat less, but that is my problem generally, just enormous portions and not being able to stop. I had a big baked potato with tuna and cheese yesterday with some coleslaw. I happily finished it and would have eaten more if I had more in front of me!

You’ll probably find that the effects of the meds kick in as you increase doses. In the meantime, maybe try to look at what you’re eating - as I’m eating so much less I’m trying to make sure that what I am having is as healthy as possible.

It’s a process and to have the best chance of keeping the weight off afterwards I think it’s good to use the time on Saxenda to make changes. That’s what I’m hoping at any rate!

good luck x

I went up gradually to .9 (.6 and then 5 ‘clicks’ to take me to halfway to the 1.2 dose) although I had horrible nausea the first time I went up to 1.2. Gave it a day or two and tried again and it was ok.

Hello, I hope it's ok to join? I've just ordered my first box of saxenda so hoping to start later on in the week. I've got at least 2.5 stone to lose and just can't do it myself. Has anyone ever used it and not seen results? I know I need to eat properly and I've joined the gym already but I'm just worried In case I don't see any results at all!
