30kg to lose. Who else is in this ballpark?

trytopullyoursocksup · 15/01/2023 10:24

That's ambitions - I am 51 and it's taking me to my 21 year old weight. (On the other hand, when I weighed that - or anything lower - I was never ever satisfied)

Is there anyone else in that kind of region? I am seeing a lot of threads from the people with around a stone, or a stone and a half to lose

I'm stunned that so many of you with 20kg plus to lose can do so much exercise!
@trytopullyoursocksup your C25K sounds excellent.

I'm obviously in worse shape than I thought.

How do we all feel about a weekly weigh in post?
It might be a bit motivating?

I don't care about posting my actual weight as no one knows me and this is my special diet name
But for those more delicate we could post losses only.
If we copy and paste we will keep track of who is actually sticking to it and not saying can I join and disappearing like I have done on other threads.

Just a thought

DressingForRevenge · 31/01/2023 18:48

@trytopullyoursocksup if you go low-carb, spirits and sugar-free mixers are virtually “free” and you’ll only need 2. Falls over!

Im happy for a weekly weigh-in but would prefer not to use actual weight as a) I’m identifiable and b) I’m built to pull carts up Scottish mountains and weigh about 4 stone more than people think I do. 😂

But I’d like to keep a tally as in SW/current loss/week number type thing because otherwise it all gets lost. I’ve been writing it on my kitchen calendar and tbh burglars will assume it’s my savings account. 😉

The nurse said nothing and tbh it wasn’t as bad (??) as I was expecting as I could read the screen and am just 1lb since my last recorded weigh-in 2 years ago. Clearly I was wearing very heavy pants today.

It doesn't take that long to build up some level of fitness if you can be consistent (my main issue). I know walking wouldn't do much for me and I don't have the time to do enough walking to burn many calories! I was very surprised because I ran 4km the other day (in intervals with walking in between) and then did some weights and burned more calories doing the weights than running.

trytopullyoursocksup · 31/01/2023 23:49

@DressingForRevenge I know what you mean about weighing more than people think - I am not deluding myself that I don't look like I have a lot of weight to lose, but I have really heavy legs I think, they are so stocky even when they are not fat and at my most slim I am still really heavy even though I can wear small waist and hip sizes. At the moment I think my fella thinks he weighs more than me and I know I weigh more than him, which is embarrassing

(I am seeing a man who has his children at the weekends, as do I have mine, which is why I have been saying I have been having drinks on a Monday the last couple of weeks - it's when we see each other - I know Monday isn't a typical drinking night but if I do at all it is likely to be a Monday)

Re fitness, I think this has been as much a curse as a help in some ways. I have always been able to go out for a day's hiking of up to about 10 miles with relative ease. Sadly, this has allowed me to dismiss concerns about the health impact of being overweight (to some degree) because I've felt healthy. Plus, it don't half build up an appetite for stodgy foods at the end of the day

Running, however, is something I have enjoyed very much but that tends to take a slide very quickly when life gets in the way. Plus, as I gainw eight I enjoy running less because I then tend to want to wear really baggy clothes and still feel self conscious about how much I wobble. The same with yoga. I feel better with even just short sessions of regular yoga (i.e my back doesn't niggle) but it's hard to enjoy yoga when the fat gets in the way of bending. I'd like to get back to doing that.

I'm happy with a weekly weigh in idea. I weigh myself daily but can easily just tot up the results of a week and post them. What day do we want?

Blacktreacle · 01/02/2023 11:05

Just popping into say hi <waves>

Chaotic work week here, my busiest of the year always. Just about holding the intermittent fasting and healthy food together. Exercise out of the window as not enough time.

On exercise. Like @SeventyPounds I've always felt healthy even with all this weight (and indeed I don't really have blood pressure issues, and recent blood tests so no issue with blood sugar etc) I'm pretty strong so can lift weights happily and always tried to keep on top of exercise though not always successful. I've also always made home cooked food, lots of veg, lots of good protein, not reliant on empty calories of diet products etc. But I eat just too bloody much of it. I'm definitely proof that diet is more important than exercise in losing weight, that you can't outrun your diet. And it also means there isn't a quick fix for me. I've got to be in it for the long haul with food. Hoping exercise will help me lose cms alongside the weight, and feel trimmer and healthier as I lose weight. Plus I feel better when I have exercised. It really helps me feel like I'm making positive changes.

Blacktreacle · 01/02/2023 11:11

PS Happy to do a weekly weigh in. I'm guessing midweek Tues or Weds so everybody has time to leave the bloat from weekend blips behind and get back on track?

JustMoved123 · 01/02/2023 12:59

I’m happy for a weekly weigh in, I’ll be getting it checked at the gym on a Tuesday so I’ll update on here then. Re exercise I started going to the gym consistently (3-4 times a week) at the end of 2021, I have gained muscle and I’m definitely fitter but I really don’t think it helps with weight loss which is a disappointment!

I like your thinking! Grin

Blacktreacle · 01/02/2023 13:29

Of course I won't have any weekend blips at all. Never have, never will Halo

@katscamel Thanks for pointing me to Get Fit With Rick.
It's so simple! Better with him turned off but it's a good level of cardio for me

I now need to add some strength and flexibility. I'm feeling quite determined.

WontLetThoseRobotsDefeatMe · 01/02/2023 20:04

I've been gently stalking these threads, need to lose 32kg.

I eat and booze when I'm stressed, celebrating, to relax...Not ideal. My health is really starting to suffer and I'd like to reverse it. I've had terrible exercise levels for the past 6 months after getting laryngitis and repeated chest infections which left me breathless even standing up! I'm too embarrassed to see a doctor about it until I lose some weight though, and I've walked about 2 miles each day for the last week and am starting to feel less panicked about it.

SeventyPounds · 01/02/2023 20:30

Welcome @WontLetThoseRobotsDefeatMe

Please don't mess about with breathlessness. My mum recently ignored breathlessness for too long because she thought she'd caused it herself through her lifestyle or that it was something degenerative and fatal. It gradually got worse until she panicked and really couldn't breathe.

Turns out she had a pulmonary embolism in both lungs. She spent almost a week in the hospital emergency ward and is currently on strict rest.

On the day she was admitted, she pushed herself to do 30mins on the bike to try and improve her fitness. She could have bloody killed herself!

Please don't deprive yourself of medical treatment because of your weight Flowers

JaneLockland · 01/02/2023 23:50

@Blacktreacle the meal planning drives me insane!! Plus DP (who is on his own self imposed, very restrictive diet - don't even get me started on that!) - seems incapable of understanding that if you only buy enough chicken for one lunch and eat it, THEN THERE WILL BE NO CHICKEN FOR THE NEXT LUNCH. Every time he is bloody astonished that he'll have to go and buy some more Hmm

I too am a soup convert, bought a soup maker which has been ace! Although I made a soup with sweet potato, butternut squash and parsnip, only to find that WW now allocate points to all those veg. WTF, WW?! This is why I never use my app any more and am counting down the days till my subscription expires...

That's interesting about the Saxenda @DressingForRevenge - it would certainly be a novelty to not be bothered about chocolate Grin

I've set my first weight loss target as losing just over a stone by April 23rd, as we have a big family occasion to attend that day - I'm currently 13st 11.5lb, my aim is 12st 10lb. My final target is 10st 6lb which is still at the top end of the weight range for my height (5ft 5), but I didn't manage to get much lower than that even pre-DC when I had all the time in the world to meal plan/ cook/ shop/ exercise, I'd be happy with that TBH.

My wardrobe is a sad collection of 'fits ok but looks dowdy', 'looks sporty but not on me' and 'ha! Not a hope' @SeventyPounds Confused I packaged up everything that didn't fit and put it into vacuum bags for the long awaited day I can fit into it again. Sending best wishes to your DM Flowers

katscamel · 02/02/2023 04:56

I've definitely worked out that it's a milky drink keeps me going through the day....whether that's a latte or a cappuccino. Has to be skimmed milk...full fat goes right through me. Yesterday had no breakfast, a latte at 10ish and then roasted veg, 3 chicken wings (had to be used up) and burnt falafel for dinner. Burning the falafel set the fire alarm off in the building and the guys that come and turn it off didn't come for half an hour..... non UK ... Colleagues in the building weren't too impressed.
I'm putting my hands up to admit I did have a small kunefe as well (Turkish/Middle Easter dessert....short of shredded wheat with a fairly bland cheese in the middle soaked in sugar syrup). As it was out of a packet it didn't come with the syrup so made my own...(3 sugarcubes, water and lemon juice) Not healthy but healthier than the 'proper'version and added strawberries.
I walked about 11k steps yesterday (aim for at least 10k) and that included a Rick workout.

DressingForRevenge · 02/02/2023 06:32

@JaneLockland you’ve just described my wardrobe! 😂 At least the dowdy stuff I can fit into is less sausage-skin like than it was a few weeks ago. Stylish clothes in suitcases under the bed, in the wardrobe, rammed behind the sink type stuff.

@katscamel mmmn burned falafel - no sarcasm intended! You know those po-faced ones who bleat “but charcoal is full of carcinogens” ? Aye hen, and if you’ve never smothered an eight of an inch of salted butter on a piece of burned toast or chowed down on the caramelised skins of burned sausages - may you live a beige and cancer-free life until you’re 125!

I don’t wanna talk about exercise but will just chant “you can’t outrun your mouth”.

Blacktreacle · 02/02/2023 07:04

"You can't outrun your mouth" needs to be the motto of this thread!

I also like the burnt bits! Did some baked sweet potatoes in the first week of this. They don't ever go crispy so I followed a deliciously Ella tip - smashed them flat like a pancake when baked and then put them back in the oven. All the edges caught and went crispy and the baked sweet potato tasted infinitely better (looked a mess, but the taste was worth it!)

Having dipped under 100kg for the first time at weigh in on Monday I've been above every day (I weigh daily at the moment as it helps with keeping me on track). My eating is good this week but my weight is bouncing around. I was very surprised to dip under - it was a big overnight loss that day - so not too surprised I'm slightly above. Working to end the week under again.

I have been chained to my desk, mind you. Busiest week of my year work wise, so I've barely moved. Going to try and fit a short workout in today and go for a late afternoon walk (did that yesterday for first time since Sunday, it was great to clear my head before a couple more hours work)

JaneLockland · 02/02/2023 08:59

Great motto @Blacktreacle Grin I did W1R1 of C25K today - the DC's school have decided to hold a sponsored 5K in June to raise funds, I am desperately in need of some fitness Confused

Have you tried doing baked sweet potatoes in the air fryer, if you have one? DTS2 loves a jacket potato so I microwave it then finish it off in the air fryer for a few minutes to crisp it up - haven't tried sweet potatoes that way yet though.

The DC have a sports club later today @DressingForRevenge so my outfit of choice is "sporty but not on me" - I hold out great hopes that one day I'll look like I actually do sport in the sporty clothes! But not yet....

kirinm · 02/02/2023 09:30

Feeling a little despondent because I've been tracking calories and seem to have either stayed the same or over. I am having my period so that might be why. I've not managed to go the gym once this week yet.

I've made a pact with myself. I will calorie count for a month without fail. I have to control the amount I'm eating especially when I barely move most days (when I'm working from home) unless I go to the gym and that isn't always easy to do.

Blacktreacle · 02/02/2023 10:14

We have @DressingForRevenge to thank for that motto!

Checked and replied to a few emails first thing and have just managed to sneak in a 15min kettlebell workout before the willpower deserted me! Breakfast next and then back to my desk.

Meatballs for dinner this evening. Pasta for the hungry hordes, kale for me!

Blacktreacle · 02/02/2023 10:18

Kirinm- I'm tracking calories religiously at the moment and it's making a difference just noticing how much I would eat if I didn't.

I'm putting my planned meals into MFP at the start of the day then I know how much wiggle room I have if I feel like I need a snack.

Hope it works for you.

I also have the WFH exercise issue. I've got a couple of routines I can do without thinking using a kettlebell but struggle with more variety. Started exploring YouTube as have a few other people on here. Not found somebody I click with yet but will keep trying. What would you enjoy doing? Maybe somebody on here has a suggestion?

DressingForRevenge · 02/02/2023 11:26

@JaneLockland quite! Some women look “sporty” - I look like I’ve heard there’s a yellow sticker event at Iceland! 😂

The only problem I have with the saxenda is forgetting to take it and the effects wear off quickly! Because the low-carb is going well for me right now, the lowest dose of saxenda is enough to keep it in check.

I need to go back to my yoga class but have been struggling with evening energy. BK (before kids, not the burger joint) I used to be at the gym for 6am and would shower and get ready there. MorningS are best for me. I honestly cannot fathom why the world refuses to orbit around me and what I want - Christ knows my arse is big enough to have its own gravitational pull.

I'm actually just about to restart personal training sessions (my trainer has been away for a few months) but I'd really like to improve my running too.

Blacktreacle · 02/02/2023 18:05

Good luck with the PT @kirinm

There are a few runners on here, a couple doing C25K and I run about 4-5km weekly with a friend having done C25K. I can totally recommend that as a way in to running.

TennisWithDeborah · 02/02/2023 18:36

Does everyone here put on weight premenstrually?

I am asking because two hours after I did my first weigh-in, my period came. It wasn’t expected (I’m in peri and irregular) and I luckily don’t suffer from premenstrual symptoms, so I had no inkling.

I am idly wondering how much of what I’ve lost since 9/1 will be period weight!
