That's ambitions - I am 51 and it's taking me to my 21 year old weight. (On the other hand, when I weighed that - or anything lower - I was never ever satisfied)

Is there anyone else in that kind of region? I am seeing a lot of threads from the people with around a stone, or a stone and a half to lose

Good luck with the PT @kirinm

There are a few runners on here, a couple doing C25K and I run about 4-5km weekly with a friend having done C25K. I can totally recommend that as a way in to running.

I can never get on with C25k. I know lots of people love it but for some reason I struggle with it. It's probably the 20 min run that appears out of nowhere in week 5!

Does everyone here put on weight premenstrually?

I am asking because two hours after I did my first weigh-in, my period came. It wasn’t expected (I’m in peri and irregular) and I luckily don’t suffer from premenstrual symptoms, so I had no inkling.

I am idly wondering how much of what I’ve lost since 9/1 will be period weight!

I do but only a couple of pounds and it does fluctuate. I'm regular but my PMS symptoms have changed a lot - I think I'm peri too - and I don't think I hold as much water as I used to (which is what the weight gain was).

Thank you kirinm

Happy Thursday..... its the start of the weekend here. I'm thinking about braving the gym later....its on the way to the shop we have so seems like the perfect opportunity. We have a quiz night tonight so I'll probably eat out. Have had breakfast...for a change....strawberries and bran flakes. Did think about eggs but ....maybe it's just me.....scrambled/poached eggs NEED thick buttery toast 😁

Blacktreacle · 03/02/2023 08:41

@kirinm the thing I do with running at the moment as I'm getting back into it is run 5, walk 1. No more than 1 min walking. You can start at whatever minutes you need to 2:1 maybe when starting and then slowly challenge yourself to move up. I know some people who do ultra marathons etc and they will often train 9:1 because the recovery helps them go further.

Blacktreacle · 03/02/2023 08:43

Pressed post to soon. It's hard starting after 1 minute - it's not quite enough recovery - but you need to do it as overall it's easier than completely recovering and starting again. I usually eke out one or two more sets of 5 than I would if I was trying to run non stop

Morning all. I just wanted to give you all some encouragement by telling my weight loss journey.
June 2021 17 stone 4.
February 2023 12 stone 2.
I've done it through IF and low carb but there are such a myriad of methods I just think it's about finding what works for you and what's sustainable.
My tips...I realise I was definitely eating too much and that carbs are just not good for me. If I want a treat I won't have it straight away. If I still want it later I'll have it but just a small bit.
You can do this. Believe in yourself.

I'm doing intervals but am doing them in distance so I've managed to get up to 800m with 2 minutes walking. I'm hoping I'll get up to 1km intervals and then gradually increase from there. My last run before lockdown - and probably the last time I could run continuously for any length of time - was 10 miles so I know I can do it. I just haven't been consistent for long enough to actually do it!

I think I'm going to have to reduce my calorie allowance on non exercise days. My PT suggested that 1800 calories would be a big enough deficit but I think I might reduce that to something closer to 1500 as I've not lost anything at all yet!

I know you're right about less walking. It's quite a mental thing thingy. You're just about breathing normally before you're off again. I might try it today 🤞🏻

Blacktreacle · 03/02/2023 09:07

I'm trying to get back into it properly too. I used to regularly run 8km or so at weekends and have done 10km and two 10 mile races in the past. If I could get back to 8km more or less non stop I'd be delighted. I had an op at the end of 2016 which stopped me running for a long while and I did a 10 mile race as my last run before that, so I know your feeling. The longest I've done since then was 7.5km, but that was a blip compared to the usual 4-5km trudge!

It's a bit chicken and egg - I feel like I need to be running longer distances to help with the weight loss but I don't feel I can run longer distances until I've discarded some of this weight that I have to carry around on those runs! But also running makes me hungry so I'm mindful that it may not be the best thing for me at the moment and/or I need to time my runs well to be just before a meal.

800m intervals sound excellent. I'm non there non stop yet (my 5 minute plod gets me about 600m as I'm about 8 mins per km at the moment - I've never been a fast runner but I am really slow at the moment).

kirinm · 03/02/2023 09:12

@Blacktreacle Oh I feel the same about weight. I am much heavier than I've ever been and it most definitely isn't helping.

I've never been a fast runner and don't mind that really - although I do wonder if I was lighter / slim, that would make me faster. I think for now, I'm just aiming to manage 5km. My goal is to be able to run 5km by the time the clocks go back so I can potentially run after work.

I was thinking about signing up for a half - I've done a few before - but they add immense pressure and I'm struggling to fit exercise in and I don't need the sort of pressure training for an event brings.

We will get there!

justasoul · 03/02/2023 11:56

Just popping over to see how everyone is doing - will go back and read it Blush
Had a bad week in general with a mild flare up of my ulcerative colitis but should be on the mend now so I can focus a bit better. Lost about half a stone in Jan so didn’t do too bad. Hope everyone is doing well Flowers

RedDoughnut · 04/02/2023 07:53

How about Wednesday as a weigh in day?

Everyone reports their losses ( if you have a different weekly weigh in day then just post on Wednesdays, no need to weigh twice)

Copy and paste the person before you results and we should have a view of everyone who is in the club and actively participating.

Would that work for all?

kirinm · 04/02/2023 10:13

Yes Wednesday is as good a day as any for me!

katscamel · 04/02/2023 11:13

Confession time....I don't actually have any scales 😂 I'll get some when I'm more sorted out and can actually find some. Very limited as to what the shops sell here and no Amazon etc.
I'll know I've lost weight when my jeans start falling down 🤣

E30 · 04/02/2023 11:25

If you very heavy running is high impact on joints.
choose lower impact cardio and weight train.
also if you just do running your will lose muscle mass.

SeventyPounds · 04/02/2023 11:42

I think I'll just refresh the OP's words from earlier in the thread...

"Please don't come on here and start telling people what they are doing wrong, what they need to do, what they need, what they don't need"

Apropos of nothing at all, of course Grin

SeventyPounds · 04/02/2023 11:43

Yep - Wednesdays sound good to me, too!

@E30 actually it did work for me. I lost 3 stone running and eating well. And then I had a baby who didn't sleep through until she was nearly 3 and have a very busy full time job as a lawyer. Not eating properly is what caused my issues. Not any form of exercise.

It is 'what they've done before' btw. Not 'what they done before'. If you're going to come on here to laugh at people trying to lose weight or get fit, learn to write a coherent sentence.

how is your body composition though ? My suggestion was more about improving body composition as you lose weight. Where if you just run and you are heavy. Then more strain on joints and nothing to build lean muscle. You lose weight but just fat and muscle. So while you might get to target body weight your body composition may not have improved.

Constructive advice? You literally ended one post laughing at the people you claim to be trying to help.

No one asked for your advice. This is not an advice thread and yet you've pushed your way on insisting you're doing us all a great favour.

You are not. The only person you may be helping, is yourself.
