30kg to lose. Who else is in this ballpark?

That's ambitions - I am 51 and it's taking me to my 21 year old weight. (On the other hand, when I weighed that - or anything lower - I was never ever satisfied)

Is there anyone else in that kind of region? I am seeing a lot of threads from the people with around a stone, or a stone and a half to lose

OP posts:
kirinm · 15/02/2023 10:22

I am definitely getting fitter though.

Amisillyornot · 15/02/2023 11:37

@kirinm Feb babies are the best! mine is 26 Feb

I have gained 200 grams this week but very happy with this as was expecting a bigger gain due to bad eating the last week. It's my birthday month so lot's of going out this month. Yesterday was bad as well with eating. I have however kept up the walking.

@kirinm are you measuring your waist, boobs and hips etc too? I've lose a cm off each this week despite no weight loss, and I've lost quite a few cms since I started (waist down 8cm!) The fact I lost cm this week despite no weight loss has made me pleased I am measuring in different ways!

I measured yesterday so I'll keep track that way too. Well done on the losses!

My week has been good in parts but feeling that impulse to go back to my normal eating habits already! I think it could be encouraging to see overall loses, especially on bad weeks, what do you all think?

Captainladder · 15/02/2023 15:27

argh! I'll admit to a terrible week of eating (poor planning, my sons birthday, and a very stressful situation and home that I won't go into).... weighing in at 100.8kgs
whoops. Oh well.
I think I need new scales as mine have a huge crack in them and you have to stomp on it to get it to start 🤣

kirinm · 16/02/2023 07:42

I jumped on the scales this morning - habit - and in now down 2.5lbs from yesterday. I think I'll need to consider weight loss on a monthly basis as there's so much fluctuation in a week!

RedDoughnut · 16/02/2023 07:42

I fell apart yesterday. So much food my stomach hurt. No exercise at all
I need a new start today. I have had an extra hours sleep so I'm hoping that helps. My routine is all out of whack as it's half term but none of this is a valid excuse because other women in my position don't over eat.

Day 1 again today.

Amisillyornot · 16/02/2023 09:25

Morning all - is anyone suffering from constipation due to calories restriction? I used o be a regular but now i am very constipated - sometimes 3/4 days no bowel movement.
I feel very tired and unwell today. feels like a cold coming on.

TennisWithDeborah · 16/02/2023 16:35

@kirinm I’m weighing monthly. I like the downward trend rather than the weekly/daily ebb and flow.

@Amisillyornot I have not experienced that. I hope you’re feeling ok.

@RedDoughnut don’t berate yourself. We’ve all been there.

SeventyPounds · 17/02/2023 08:25

I like to get on the scales every day but I can totally get why it's not for everyone. When you see the peaks it can feel very dispiriting.

I've had a cold all week and am now just hanging on for the weekend when I can legitimately spend (some of) the day curled up on the sofa. Until then I'm having to use my coffee calories for lemsip and honey instead. It's making me very grumpy Grin

@Amisillyornot not sure if it's the case for you but I always have the consciously up my water intake when trying to lose weight. I think, because so much of your water comes from food, when you eat less you get less water that way. If that makes sense? Maybe that might help?

caffelattetogo · 17/02/2023 08:30

I'm now 7kg down, but it is going so slowly. I wish I could see a difference more quickly!

RedDoughnut · 17/02/2023 08:30

@Amisillyornot I think my bowels get sluggish as it's they are not getting the quantity of food they are used to.

I was thinking of meal replacement drinks and wondering what I could add to increase the fibre in them.

caffelattetogo · 17/02/2023 08:31

Sorry, not 7kg in a week. This week it's been 1.5lbs.

kirinm · 18/02/2023 12:52

I've managed four exercise sessions this week. A mixture of running and weights. We are swimming tomorrow and I might see how I feel about a gentle jog. Aiming for 4 x a week from now on and aiming to do a park-run by the end of March.

I feel quite motivated with the exercise. I'd quite like to see some results on the scales though!

Wantthisfriend · 18/02/2023 23:43

Hi peeps, can I join too? I need to lose 30kg and get stronger. I didn't know this thread was here until I read another thread and it mentioned y'all.

I feel awkward talking about my weight loss IRL and people's advice (usually faddy), actually demotivates me!
Anyway, I'm 80kg on 5'4" frame. I hate how I look, and often feel like I am actually killing myself when I eat, as I feel my body is just so heavy. I was very slim till I was about 36, Im 51 now.

Started last week with exercise and food control, doing intermittent fasting, gym 3 times a week (twice in gym, once at home) and 1 yoga. My terrible weak point is at night after dinner, I just want to snack and snack!!!

I need buddies who properly understand...🤗

InterestingMuch · 19/02/2023 10:36

Please could I join too? I found this thread last night and so much of it could've been me.

50 years old, no regular walking commute now, peri knackered, and used to run until I tripped on a wonky slab. A wardrobe full of clothes that don't fit.

This morning I weighed in at 91kg, pulled on my trainers and just ran/walked for 30 mins. 25kg off will take me into a comfortable bmi and back into all of my clothes. I am going to do a weekly weigh and a weekly timed run to track progress. Food wise, I am not a natural carnivore so will be mixing intermittent fasting with portion control (no finishing off food if I am not hungry). Ebay will be my clothing sort out friend.

My main motivation now is to feel better and, if we get another heatwave, just less of a sweaty, sticky mess.

Here to send support, and share the good and bad bits.

Blacktreacle · 19/02/2023 12:01

Welcome @Wantthisfriend and @InterestingMuch <waves>

I wore a dress for a meeting on Friday that I last wore to a meeting just before Christmas and I noticed that I was trimmer in it, it sat much better round my hips and belly. And somebody who hadn't seen me since that meeting commented that I was looking well. That was really pleasing.

The most intense, chaotic 6 weeks of my working year finished with that meeting on Friday, on top of 10 days of PMT then period. Yesterday, I was exhausted - banging headache and fuzzy head, very tired body. Lots of the stress I'd been absorbing was coming out. So I went a bit easy on myself yesterday, didn't go mad but didn't track food, with a view to kicking on with this weight loss malarkey starting today with making a good plan for the week ahead. I should now have a bit more time and headspace to focus on exercise a bit more.

EasternEcho · 19/02/2023 14:30

May I please join too? I know I am late, but I hope it is ok.

@Wantthisfriend My stats are very similar to yours. 51, perimenopausal, 5' 4" and I was nearly 175 lbs in January. Last weigh in last week was 167 lbs. Have been slipping in the past few days and afraid to weigh myself again. In the month of February I have lost just 1 lb.

I work from home and finding intermittent fasting very difficult with easy access to food. Hopefully staying here, reading, and updating will help keep me focused.

Cutting back on carbs is also interfering with my sleep. I am now a total insomniac with about 3 hours of sleep each night which is making my life miserable and leads me to overeat during the day.

I was very slim and fit till my mid 40's and then the weight just started ballooning. None of the tried and true methods of my younger days seem to work anymore.

kirinm · 19/02/2023 17:25

Welcome to everyone just joining!

@Blacktreacle sounds like a chaotic few weeks but hopefully you'll feel some calmness now.

I've booked an Easter holiday today. I knew we were going but was finding it hard to make a decision on where to go. It's good though as it adds some pressure / motivation and the gift has a gym.

RedDoughnut · 19/02/2023 19:20

Hi to everyone new

Weigh in day is Wednesday. Weigh whenever you want of course but report in on Wednesdays. We are trying to keep an weekly thread where we can see who is active.

I feel a bit better than last week and hoping to have made progress by Wednesday.

6 weeks to Easter @kirinm with iron willpower that could be a stone off!?

I'd say yes except hand on heart, I'm being pretty strict with myself now and the pounds aren't disappearing particularly fast.

I'd love to lose at least a stone by the time we go though.

SeventyPounds · 20/02/2023 09:25

Welcome to all the new folks!

It must be the week for booking holidays because I also booked one - but a Scotland walking holiday late in the year (early December) so it'll be some snowy hill walking for me! I love it and am determined to be even fitter for it this year so that's a bit of a goal for me: to be as fit as I can be for that.

I also haave a couple of family weddings this year so they are mini-goals. It's going to make clothes shopping tricky for them because they are a few months apart so I cannot 'just' buy one outfit for them both and will be reluctant to over spend on the first one in case I don't get much wear out of the dress (or whatever) before it no longer fits me again. Oh to be one of those people who remain roughly the same weight and so clothes puchases can really be 'investments' rather than 'something that fits me right now'.

Still, I am mostly over my cold so can bring my daily activity levels back up again - they were down last week due to me sneaking into my bed at every opportunity Grin

70,000 steps and 3 rounds of yoga, at least, this week.

Amisillyornot · 20/02/2023 09:53

Morning all
@RedDoughnut - 0 same here am thinking probably have weetabix or something similar for some lunches as this may help move things a bit.
@SeventyPounds - I love water so usually drink between 2 - 2.5 litres a day but recently i have been feeling very cold, so haven't been drinking as much. I will need to up my intake.
Deffo holiday season - we have booked a holiday to Mauritius and I need to lose another 10kgs before July to get to my ideal weight.

Captainladder · 20/02/2023 14:10

Checking in again for accountability! New Scales have arrived. Am still using my last weeks weight (100.8) as a starting off point.
Have also decided on my strategy. This week I'm following this plan....

16:8 IF... basically skip breakfast which is generally normal for me anyway.

Only eat at meal times.

Cut out processed food and desserts..... I don't have a sweet tooth but I run a cafe and I do try the cakes when try out new ones (we bake everything in house)... But I generally just have a bite and my collegue can have the rest! But I'd got into the habit of having dessert, which I never really want anyway.

Increase water / herbal tea.

Move more! Yoga Monday, Tai' Chi on Tuesday, Swimming Weds, Thurs and Friday. Mini Dog walk Saturday and bigger Dog walk Sunday (unfortunately I can't take him on my own as he's really strong and can be badly behaved on lead....and I'm not up to full strength after my hip ops yet).
There was lots of discussion around weight after my yoga class this morning. We all came to the conclusion its a mindset thing... and a habit thing... and for lots of us (we are all women over 40) a self medicating thing! lots of positive talk around using the Noom app - anyone here use it?
