30kg to lose. Who else is in this ballpark?

That's ambitions - I am 51 and it's taking me to my 21 year old weight. (On the other hand, when I weighed that - or anything lower - I was never ever satisfied)

Is there anyone else in that kind of region? I am seeing a lot of threads from the people with around a stone, or a stone and a half to lose

OP posts:

Constructive advice? You literally ended one post laughing at the people you claim to be trying to help.

No one asked for your advice. This is not an advice thread and yet you've pushed your way on insisting you're doing us all a great favour.

You are not. The only person you may be helping, is yourself.

You were being rude to constructive advice. Simple. You were rude to me. I wasn’t rude to you.

DressingForRevenge · 04/02/2023 16:09

Wednesday would be grand for me. Might make up for today’s ice-cream. I’m hitting the 3 week hump - you know, the weight falls off the first 10 days, collar bones emerge and stomachs flatten… then you stall.

Nurse told me my cholesterol is too high and that I need to cut out all the food groups which make life worth living allow me to lose weight.

I think it’s going to be a case of “pick your poison”. No matter which method we use to lose weight, there will ALWAYS be those who say “no, not like that!”.

I told her I’d consider going swimming but the deforestation requires specialist equipment. She laughed (same age as us) and said shaving legs is v v v low down on her priority list too.

what I am going to do RIGHT now though is buy a cossie which isn’t 6 years old, faded to fuck and disappears up my arse crack. One step at a time right?

Blacktreacle · 04/02/2023 22:04

E30 - I think you are the only person who could read a handful of comments from people about running and assume that all they are doing is running and that they have no idea what is good for them. I guarantee this means you absolutely haven't read this thread properly. So given you haven't bothered to engage properly with the thread and just jumped in and then LOLed at us when challenged, forgive us if we're not entirely convinced that you're here in good faith. Perhaps you can understand that now might be the time to bow out with more grace than you entered.

Not butt hurt. Just frustrated.

We have a nice thread where it has already been discussed that advice is not the point when a previous poster (whose history and posting style is similar to yours) pushed in with 'constructive' advice.

You were asked, using the OPs words, not to add advice and yet you insisted on carrying on with it.

If you have 30kg ish to lose then - genuinely - please stay for the support. But also share more about yourself rather than share advice because I, for one, am not here for that.

Morning all! I’m not looking at the scales today but wondering whether yesterday's gannet-fest was hormonal. I’ve got a mirena so never know where I am in my cycle - plus obviously at an age where it could all be going haywire anyway.

The horrible vertigo I’ve had since august appears to have abated somewhat, so I’m going to try a wee toddle later and see how I get on.

I took some duck filets out of the freezer yesterday so will drop them in a pan of hot butter later. Yum!

I hope you all have a lovely day. I’m going to go look for a cossie again as I had no luck yesterday. I’d like something between “cardi B shooting a music video” and “took bronze in the 200m freestyle in Seoul”.

RedDoughnut · 05/02/2023 10:46

I bought some really yummy crusty bread yesterday
I thought I'd be doomed today but I've stayed the same.
I also bought Twix for DDs packed lunch.
One microscopic Twix finger is 99 calories. I ate it while I was putting the shopping away. It's this mindless eating that got me fat.

SeventyPounds · 06/02/2023 14:34

Glorious walk with the dog this morning. It was light at that time of the morning (for the first time this year) and the sky was clear. Hard frost on the ground made it both pretty and clean because all the mud was frozen.

Perfect Smile

I am very much looking forward to spring now, though. The longer days and the sound of birdsong. Bring it on!

TennisWithDeborah · 06/02/2023 14:59

Oh yes, I am really looking forward to the better weather!

I’m nearly a month into this process. I have not yet weighed but I can tell that I’ve reduced. Waist is appearing, bra strap fat is disappearing.

Blacktreacle · 06/02/2023 19:04

Wasn't it a lovely morning? I've been squirrelled away working since lunchtime but I enjoyed being out this morning. Went to my Pilates class and my particularly achy this evening.

I normally weigh in on Mondays, will wait for Weds to update properly but have lost a bit again and pleased with how things are going. I don't feel hungry as much as I feared which makes me feel like this is sustainable. I'm hoping this keeps me going and I remember this during tough days.

Just eaten salmon for dinner. Finding fish with steamed veg but with lots of strong flavours incorporated is a good way to have a very low calorie but tasty dinner and it's very useful to end the day with when I have a bigger breakfast/lunch.

freshstart49 · 06/02/2023 20:27

Good evening everyone so week one today for me 7 lbs gone I'm ecstatic obviously but I'm experienced enough to know week one and water weight. HOWEVER it's gave me motivation for week 2 Low Carb if anyone is interested

kirinm · 06/02/2023 20:37

I've kept within my calories for a week now I think - probably slightly more strict since last weds so that's probably a good day for me to weigh.

7lb is great!!

JaneLockland · 06/02/2023 23:32

It was a beautiful day here too @SeventyPounds! I would have enjoyed a walk yesterday but the DC had a birthday party to go to - two hours at softplay aka hell on earth

I definitely retain cake water towards the end of my period @TennisWithDeborah, plus I'm usually utterly knackered, I find it really tiring (I'm perimenopausal and have very heavy AF). I just dread it really, one week out of every four is more or less written off.

I've started C25K again @kirinm having had success with it a couple of years ago; can't believe I'd forgotten about the 20 minute run in week 5 though Shock it seems impossible at the moment! I've signed up for a 5K 'fun run' in May (the jury's out on how fun it will actually be) so would like to get at least close to running 5K by then...

@Blacktreacle I did get a nasty foot injury from running so still have to take it easy, but would love to get back to running those sort of distances!

BK I was a proper gym bunny @DressingForRevenge - two local gyms will accept kids from 8, I'm going to sign the DTs up (they turn 8 in September) and hope they enjoy it! Have you looked at Asda for swimming costumes? I've had a couple of good ones from there, they do 'body sculpt' ones too and aren't majorly expensive - this is the full range - although I won't be buying this one because as pretty as it looks, it doesn't have the major scaffolding I require from my swimsuits Confused

Wednesdays are good for me @RedDoughnut (well no day is good for me whilst I'm so lardy, but you know what I mean!)

A great start @freshstart49 ! That first week or so is great for the numbers going down, isn't it?

I did a yoga session yesterday. There was plenty I struggled to do but I kept with it and I know that it does get easier the more I practice and the smaller I get so look at these first sessions as the foundation to build on.

It doesn't so much burn fat as just make me feel a bit stronger and reduce the odd ache and pain, which is still good.

JustMoved123 · 07/02/2023 13:28

@freshstart49 - fantastic weight loss this week, well done.

I weighed in today but only - 1.6kg (3.5 lb) I had hoped for a bit more in the first week, especially as I think I could gain that much overnight! Onwards and upwards…..again!

Good luck for tomorrow everyone with your weigh-ins!

freshstart49 · 07/02/2023 15:27

THANKYOU for the feedback I'm not sure how I reply or tag names I will learn I'm more of a lurker on Mumsnet. I purchased an ASDA costume this week I'm yet to try it.

Captainladder · 07/02/2023 16:59

uuuuuhhhhmmmmm. Please may I come in? I know I'm a bit late to the party!
I haven't weighed myself yet but pretty sure that I'm the heaviest I've ever been (that was 101kgs about 2 years ago.) Since then, I've lost about 15kgs and put all of it back and I suspect more ... I had my hips replaced over the summer and have only just been able to start moving around more with ease... and in the meantime I've been eating everything in sight!
I've got a posh do to go to in the summer and while I don't dislike my body, I would like to feel GOOD - strong and sexy if that makes sense?! I've sort of been trying to kid myself that I just need to work on strength (I do) but I carried 2 bags of 7 kg shopping in each arm the other day and realised how much effort it was for my body.... and that's when it clicked that my joints would be SO much happier if I "just" lost weight! I really would like to keep these new hips happy as long as possible, and I don't want any knee issues further down the line as I believe they are much worse for replacement!!!
I haven't yet firmed up my "plan". I did well on 5:2 years ago....but I don't have the patience for calorie counting anymore... soooooo I'm thinking 16:8, not over eating at meal times, and only eating at mealtimes! (much better for my digestion!!!) I don't drink and don't really drink sweet drinks either so that's a good thing...
I'm really worried about stepping on the scales though. I know its not the only way to measure weight loss, but realistically its actually what is needed! I gather you weigh on Wednesdays... so I will steel myself to jump on the scales tomorrow.

JustMoved123 · 07/02/2023 17:15

Welcome @Captainladder and good luck! i avoided the scales for six months but I had to be ready to do something about it, hopefully I am now 🤞🏻

SeventyPounds · 07/02/2023 18:20

Hey @Captainladder - welcome and you're not late at all! It's our first group weigh in tomorrow so you're right on time Smile

@JustMoved123 3.5lbs is a strong start so no need to feel bad about that loss. Well done!

TennisWithDeborah · 07/02/2023 19:39

Hi @Captainladder it’s so difficult making that first step on to the scales. I did it on 9th January and was shocked, frustrated and upset by the result …but I’m now pleased that I did it because I’m not sure I’d have kept up my regime (16:8 and a lot of exercise) otherwise. I just wish I’d weighed this time last year and nipped it in the bud sooner! I’m in favour of weighing rather than “going by how clothes feel” or similar, but everyone must do what is right for them, of course.

WontLetThoseRobotsDefeatMe · 07/02/2023 19:47

@SeventyPounds I think it was you who mentioned being breathless to me. Thank you - I did get a check up, and it appears to be cold air aggravated, might be adult onset asthma. Never heard of that!

I'm feeling quite good, more energy and more control over food&drink. Making some vietnamese beef pho tonight. I've been stopping eating when I'm full/ only eating when I'm hungry - i really hope it works.

Im on mirena as well, but get some periods still - thank goodness less hormonal than without it though, I had a disastrous few months in 22 until I realised it had run out!

@DressingforRevenge That made me giggle! I'm going away this weekend with a friend, which involves a hot tub. I think I could plait my fur at present, I think i shall enjoy a long bath and some deforestation to feel more slinky!

Also, I've got a great Lands End cozzie - the legs and bum are quite generous on my shape so give good coverage (YMMV obvs) - i can't remember the name but it's a sort of long cut body, if that makes sense. Doesn't get suctioned up the bum when I waddle out of the water, which always makes me feel better not to be hoiking away.

SeventyPounds · 07/02/2023 19:51

I'm so glad you got checked out @WontLetThoseRobotsDefeatMe !

RedDoughnut · 08/02/2023 06:04

Wednesday weigh in

8/2/22

RedDoughnut -1 lb

Cut and paste my results if you can and add your own so we can make a chain.

RedDoughnut · 08/02/2023 06:07

If the weigh in had been yesterday I'd be minus 2.5 lbs.
The only thing that had changed is my bloody ( literally) period. I'm 53 and too old for this!
I don't recall ever keeping track of weight around my period before but I feel a bit bloated and sore compare to yesterday.

I won't be beaten though! I'm down about 8lbs since the start

SeventyPounds · 08/02/2023 08:10

Wednesday weigh in

8/2/22

RedDoughnut -1 lb
SeventyPounds - 1.7lb (10lbs total)

p.s. Congrats @RedDoughnut even 1lb is a good result (slow and steady wins the race and all that) but I think you can mentally count the 2.5lbs as you know today's result is a hormonal anomolly).
