Thought I'd save you the hassle @poorpaws.

Well done for those who have lost and good luck to those struggling.

My focus at the moment is just to be wiser for food selection and to keep active. The slow moving scales can wait although I did check this morning and showing I'm nearly back to 14 and a half stone.

Thanks @Zebracat 😁

Best thing... good question. I guess feeling like I can be more active and join in more with family activities. Plus I have clothes that never fitted me that suddenly do.

I still have 3 none weight related targets in my head.

I want to climb a mountain with the kids
I want to go rock climbing (which requires me to be able to lift my own body weight - more work to do here yet)
I want to fit into none plus size clothing (ie 14/16 instead of 20/22)

Spent this week hitching up my knickers so maybe time to invest in some smaller ones though 😂

Zebracat · 04/03/2023 11:43

@effiesgoldwig I urge you to buy at least 1 pair of new knickers. They are a perfect reward for all your hard work, and you really don’t want your pants falling down when you’re halfway up Snowden! I bet a 16 will fit.
My best thing is that my hip hurts less. I still cant walk more than 50 metres, but I’m not in constant pain.

poorpaws · 04/03/2023 13:00

@effiesgoldwig 👏. Well done, that is fantastic. Keep going, you've got this. It feels amazing going down a stone zone (as I call it).

🤫 I'm hoping to go down a stone zone by the end of this week 🤐 but if not then next week 🤞

Everyone seems on such a high, it's brilliant.

BeyondMyWits · 04/03/2023 15:37

Going well here. Enjoying trying hard. Even enjoying the look on dh face when I say no to a choccy biccie.

SchrodingersKitty · 04/03/2023 16:59

Slight blip today - went to the funeral of an old friend and had half a glass of wine and two small canapes at the wake. Seemed reasonable in the circumstances, though. Otherwise sticking to my rigorous low-carb 18:6 plan.

PinkArt · 04/03/2023 19:06

Large chocolate and percy pig tails sized blip last night. I'm not quite sure why I decided to say fuck it, but I've done a good veg (found tomatoes AND peppers!), meat and fish shop this afternoon to help me focus again. And some fucking tiny fromage frais as 'treats' 😭

Bjarnum · 04/03/2023 21:30

Day 2 of 1200 calories - and a spot of gardening. For those using soup - how filling do you find it? And have you got a favourite recipe?

endlesswashing · 04/03/2023 22:23

Hi everyone,

Please can I join you?

I was previously on an earlier thead but fell off the wagon and never got back on. Needless to say I've put on the stone I'd lost and more. Feeling very sluggish and uncomfortable and a bit silly for letting it happen. Tomorrow is going to be my day 1 (I've committed to it now).

TalkToTheHand123 · 04/03/2023 23:59

@Bjarnum for the soup it is quite filling but I use it mainly for the water content. For some reason I keep forgetting to drink much water so drinking soup helps for this a lot. I drink a wide variety of soup, any veg I can get my hands on!

@endlesswashing welcome, tomorrow is regularly my day 1 😯😂

OP posts:
poorpaws · 05/03/2023 08:09

@Bjarnum my soup (as everyone on here knows) is parsnip because it's quite sweet and we all know about my sweet tooth. I also add cooked broccoli (lots of it) into the parsnip soup as an added veg for my five a day (that's a bit unclear, the soup is smooth and I add the broccoli in florets so chunky bits).

@endlesswashing <waves> hi, I remember you, good that you are back. Don't feel silly, I'm the queen of yo-yoing and you'll soon have that extra weight off for the summer. Stay with us, we're on a roll atm and are all very positive.

Day 4 everyone and the dreaded Saturday night has gone. I hope you all did well and didn't give in to weekend temptation, it will be worth it when we see our results. I had a bowl of shreddies instead of my multi chocolate bars and sweets so I'm feeling happy with that and I did my exercises too.

Nearly half way through our boost week, nearly half way to revealing our results, hang on in there. Good luck everyone.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/03/2023 08:27

@Bjarnum I love soup but I’m not especially good at it. 2 good ones recently have been broccoli and Stilton , and I’ve got an Italian chicken type thing going today.
both start with the bones of a chicken in the slow cooker overnight, with water and apple cider vinegar. Once you have the stock the next day (fish the bones out or strain but don’t tip your beautiful stock down the sink!) - just add what you like to to the pot. I use frozen veg, eg frozen broccoli, onions, garlic etc and for my b&s soup I chucked in a whole piece of Stilton that I bought for 11p after Christmas and had frozen. It was delicious, although the house did smell of feet for a few days..

todays offering has: chicken stock and some shredded meat, stock cubes, a lemon cut in half, tarragon, Italian mixed herbs, some frozen butternut squash, onions and cabbage. It’s quite chunky, I’m not going to blend it as the chicken goes powdery in texture which I don’t like. It needs something to mop it up a bit so I might throw in some orzo or noodles just to soak up some of the liquid.

I’m the only one who eats it so I have to freeze in jam jars or Tupperware in portions or it goes to waste. I find it all a terrible faff to be honest which is why I use frozen veg and the slow cooker.

poorpaws · 05/03/2023 08:54

@Bjarnum and @thenewaveragebear1983 have you got a soup maker? I love mine and use it every week and it takes just 21 mins to make lovely smooth soup.

My recipe is very simple, parsnips, onions, stock pots (knor 1 chicken and 1 veg) sweet chilli, water to cover veg and salt and pepper. No fuss and if the parsnips are good no need to peel. I'm sure yours taste much better but mine is very quick and easy and with the added broccoli chunks, quite filling. My friend did ask for the recipe but never said anything when she made it so I guess it was a bit tasteless for her. I have to admit that my food is a bit bland, I'm not a fan of spicy food.

TalkToTheHand123 · 05/03/2023 09:21

I'm on turnip/swede soup today to get me through a 8am to 5pm gig. Just chucked a packet in the soup maker with a couple of spoonfuls of stock powder last night.

I'm also on chicken noodle soup sachets. Green tea too. A couple of bananas and satsumas. Some crispbread and brown sauce (forgot to put the apple sauce in).

I feel a bit lighter, have been doing a bit of stretching to help with sitting at a desk for long periods of time. I'm trying not to weigh myself as the scales don't always tell me what I want to hear.l and just focus on getting into better habits.

Morning.
still on it. Had a bit of a laden Texmex table last night, but I filled my plate with spinach and tomato salsa, and took small amounts of the rest. Nachos tho, had to have some . So although I went slightly over my calorie allowance, I know I would have eaten much more if I hadn’t been for the boost. And I did 40 minutes in the garden and a swim. More gardening today, we are making a crispy pork thing for dinner, so I need to use up some energy.
Soups. Mine tend to be veggie, unless we’ve had a chicken. I start with an onion garlic, tomato and red lentil base, then whatever veggies are starting to look sad. I spice quite heavily, I like cinnamon, garam masala, Moroccan spices. They are quite hearty, but low in calories. I also make a green soup, without the lentils but with any green veg from the kitchen or my fairly unsuccessful veg patch. I might add a tin of beans or chick peas to that. I have got a fabulous soup book that I sometimes use, can’t see it, but it’s by Lindsay? Bareham. I don’t have a soup maker because I find the whole process quite organic and therapeutic, but I can see that they are a boon.
my Dh loves my soup. Our adult dc do not and moan. I should just tell them to sort themselves out, but I find I make it less now they are here.

PinkArt · 05/03/2023 11:00

Quick check in. Yesterday went much better than Friday. I managed to just about convince myself that a shot of fromage frais is just as much of a treat as the Tony's in the cupboard.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/03/2023 12:52

@poorpaws i do have a soup maker but I think the blades are blunt because it never gets a smooth soup anymore, everything has very finely shredded fibres in it. It sits gathering dust in my utility room

poorpaws · 05/03/2023 13:19

@thenewaveragebear1983 you need my DP, he sharpens everything. He sits at the kitchen table with some sort of sharpening block which he pours oil onto and spends a lot of time until the knives are just right, I think he'd do any blades the same way. I have bought sharpening tools before, plenty of them, but they don't suit him and he goes back to his block and oil. He's an old fashioned sort 😬 but my knives are always very sharp.

Just finished another long dog walk, 13,000 steps, and wondering if I should do my exercise dvd early but I've just had soup so perhaps not yet.

Is everyone still doing well? Day 4 and I'm not hearing of any big failures so I assume we are all winning. Well done to everyone.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/03/2023 13:48

@poorpaws yes this is what I need! Knives I can do but soup maker blades are a step too far for me. I do have a stick blender that’s pretty slicey though.

i’n not really having the best day, i feel utterly exhausted and sorry for myself. My mouth still hurts from my dental work and I haven’t been able to exercise or do anything really, slept badly and generally feeling very tired and grouchy. I ended up eating biscuits and not even really wanting them.

I start my new job tomorrow, after 6 weeks waiting to start and since leaving my old job in October. I feel quite anxious, that ‘new start’ feeling is a lot, and it will be a huge lifestyle change for me and all the family actually, as we negotiate school holidays, working from home etc. I know that in 3 months I will feel great about it but I am, understandably, feeling a little apprehensive today. I’m going to have a bath now and pamper myself a bit so I feel good tomorrow.

I did my food shop order to collect on my way home from my induction day tomorrow which is one thing ticked off.

poorpaws · 05/03/2023 14:44

@thenewaveragebear1983 Very best of luck with your new job, I hope you love it. Yes it's difficult at first but you'll soon be past the first week and won't feel nearly so nervous by this time next week. I hope it goes really well for you.

I did my exercise dvd very early so this evening I can relax, have a bath and a chilled evening.

I hope everyone is having a nice Sunday.

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 05/03/2023 16:05

Thought I'd join here as I've tried and failed so many times at weight loss.

Currently 15 stone and a size 18/20 at 5'3. Feel utterly disgusting and horrified with myself for letting myself get like this.

I've had 2 children and work a desk job so don't get a lot of exercise but try where I can.

Also suffering from depression and anxiety which makes things worse. But then it's a cycle which I don't do anything, get fatter and get depressed and then fatter again.

Also impacting my relationship with my husband. We are rarely intimate and I'm sure my weight has something to do with it on both sides. Was 9 stone and a size 8/10 when we met.

I need to do it for health reasons as well as emotional health too but don't know where to start now

Bjarnum · 05/03/2023 16:43

@TalkToTheHand123 @poorpaws @thenewaveragebear1983 Thanks for your input. I did buy a packet of Asda soup mix (reduced to 10p, I should have known). It was vile. I shall Googol the parsnip soup and also the broccoli and stilton soup. Hopefully I will have more luck with them. I'll also have a look for @Zebracat soup book. Ventured into the garden again - we've lost an awful lot of shrubs due to the very cold snap earlier in the year , which is a bit depressing.
@thenewaveragebear1983 sorry to hear about your sore mouth - guess you have tried bonjela? Be kind to yourself, you have a lot on your plate right now.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/03/2023 18:53

@Bjarnum thanks

i’ve moped around all day feeling sorry for myself and have eaten so much rubbish. I don’t even dare total up my calories. I will though, just for accountability and to draw a line. My lymph glands are really swollen and painful in my neck and in my stomach, so I hope this doesn’t mean I’m coming down with a virus, but that could explain my complete exhaustion the last few days. Hopefully it will blow over and my body will fight it.

tomorrow, lunch will be provided on my induction day so that will be sandwiches probably. I’ve made a lasagne using dh’s leftover bolognese sauce from yesterday.

Then going forward the rest of the week it’s a good opportunity to get my head back in the game. I can prep my lunches in advance and get some salads in!

Bjarnum · 05/03/2023 22:17

Day 3 and managed to stick to 1200. On to day 4 ....

PinkArt · 05/03/2023 23:17

Welcome @Imamumgetmeoutofhere. I've only been here for a couple of months but it's a really lovely thread, full of supportive people, encouragement and no pressure. Everyone is doing their own thing, at their own pace.
It sounds like you're in a good place with wanting to change. What do you think would be small but effective changes you could make to get the ball rolling? I'm not doing great at stopping evening snacks but seem to have nailed quitting day snacks for now, which was a good habit to break.

Zebracat · 05/03/2023 23:31

I’ve had a good day, mainly because Dd made dinner and it was really easy to only have a very small portion. I feel bad cos she was upset.
