Thought I'd save you the hassle @poorpaws.

Well done for those who have lost and good luck to those struggling.

My focus at the moment is just to be wiser for food selection and to keep active. The slow moving scales can wait although I did check this morning and showing I'm nearly back to 14 and a half stone.

I’ve come down with a rotten cold this weekend, so not exercised but also not had any alcohol. Yesterday was my dads birthday and we went out for cake and then had a buffet type tea, didn’t calorie count. Today, my food has been good and within calories. Hopefully not too terrible a start to the week.

I’ve prepped a few days of lunches- couscous, roasted veg, sweet chilli beef. I’ll add salad to the pots each morning. I’ve ordered a selection of high protein yogurts for breakfasts as my overnight oats were making me really hungry mid morning (always find that with oats, don’t know why) . This week I’m planning to run tomorrow, gym on tues and thurs, and try to fit one more run in, then a long one at the weekend.

I really need a good week this week. I actively derail myself so I have nothing standing in my way except me! I need to drink more water, get to bed half an hour earlier and just stop eating when I’m not hungry.

poorpaws · 13/02/2023 08:02

@thenewaveragebear1983 I hope you are feeling better very soon. This is hard enough without feeling rotten as well.

I'm going food shopping soon and I've no idea what to buy. Apart from anything sweet I've fallen out with food, I can't think of anything that I'd really like to eat. I suppose I'll have a good look on the shelves to see if anything tempts me.

I think I've lost half a pound. I'm not sure because I forgot to record last weeks weight. Considering what I've eaten this week that's really good although I'm putting quite a lot of exercise in so that's probably helped a lot.

My lovely neighbour is bringing me home made bread and butter pudding today.

I'm home alone this afternoon, a very rare afternoon to myself which I love. I was going to. sort a cupboard out but I might just sit down and enjoy the peace 😁

I hope everyone's results are good this week.

Zebracat · 13/02/2023 10:39

I seem to have gained a half kilo, and I don’t know how because I stuck to the plan, mostly. But I’m worried about some stuff and it affected my sleep, 3 really bad nights, so maybe was that. Or maybe I just need a poo.
Just have to keep trying. I really need to lose more weight, it’s quite obvious, my poor old hip can’t cope with such a chunker, and now I can feel that my knee is getting dodgy too. I will not give up. I will try harder.

effiesgoldwig · 13/02/2023 17:48

I've gained a pound and eaten biscuits today. ☹️

I've gained a pound and eaten biscuits today. ☹️

Me too... on both counts 😒

TalkToTheHand123 · 13/02/2023 18:01

Hi all.

14 stone 5lbs, so 1 lbs down.

With feeling groggy, I've been sleeping a lot more. Have been eating mainly fish and veg and somehow still doing 10 / 20 mins on the Wii running. Practically no alcohol too.

When feeling like a binge, I sometimes just have a glass of water.

Hi everyone

This is not slimming related but I'm totally devastated.

I've had the results from my vet about my eldest dog and she's got cancer. She's got a cancerous lump which has grown massively even since we were at the vets last Tuesday. She's having an op on Thursday some mikes away. I don't know if the worry will send me to the chocolate tin or if I'll starve myself with grief.

This is the year I asked for peace, we had so much trauma last year 😢

Theredjellybean · 13/02/2023 21:17

Oh poorpaws I'm so sorry.
Dogs are just so special...please give your lovely dog an extra special cuddle.
How old is she ?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/02/2023 21:25

@poorpaws so sorry to hear about your lovely doggo

emmaralph · 14/02/2023 00:32

Hi all, new to mums net, struggling to loose weight tried every diet and diet pills. Slimming world being my fav but still can't get motivated. Having 4 kids im always on the go. But the weight doesn't seem to wana f**k off... Any ideas would be amazing

Zebracat · 14/02/2023 09:44

Welcome @emmaralph . Loads of ideas on here. Some of them must be good!
@poorpaws . So sorry. That’s rotten news. Is the prognosis good after the operation? I’ve only had 1 dog get cancer, but they told us that it was so aggressive that even if the tumour was removed, more would come somewhere else so that was an easier decision. When it can help there are so many factors to weigh up, and more worry and uncertainty to come. Meanwhile, if this is your greyhound, just keep kissing the little dent in their head.🌷

CatsGinAndTwiglets · 14/02/2023 19:15

Hello- name changed lardarse here at about 18 stone. Come from a family of large people, was overweight and over fed from childhood. Lost it at uni after living with a friend who eats and exercises like a normal person. Put it all on again while pregnant and breastfeeding twins. Lost it again when they were toddlers (WW). Then got an under active thyroid.

Put it back on again and had a singleton 4 years later. Massive pnd that lead to bulimia and down to bmi of 17 when they were pre school age. Has therapy and got better, got medical issues (dodgy thyroid and another autoimmune one that needs ongoing steroids) put weight back on.

Joined the gym ten years later and lost loads then covid hit and I was shielding so cooked and ate for two years. Now the biggest I’ve ever been, know I need to lose weight, all the usual problems with being big.

But I think my metabolism is totally fucked after so much yo-yo weight loss and gain. I’ve read all the books so I’m guessing low carb and intermittent fasting is the only thing likely to work apart from bariatric surgery. Also know it’ll mean living on 1000 calories or less a day and being miserable (I love cooking and good food). Yes the trite answer is to eat less of it and do some exercise but that’s hard when you’ve got health issues and medication that causes fatigue, pain and weight gain and trying to work so have literally no energy left after work to go do exercise (plus rural so no pool or gym).

Anyone got any suggestions? Finances limited so those weight loss jabs are out of the equation (and colleague who used them put it all back on when she stopped). Feeling like it’s hopeless even trying.

BeyondMyWits · 14/02/2023 19:45

@CatsGinAndTwiglets , welcome... no name changes needed here, we're all in the same boat (or on the same wagon!), and are a pretty supportive, if not always the most successful bunch... though on average , over time, we are all losing weight.

My advice is to drink more water and eat 3 meals a day. Though some find more success with 16:8... fasting for 16hrs, only eating during 8 hours of the day. Controlling portion size, once you get into a regular pattern of eating only at mealtimes is then the next step... (make half the plate veg etc)

I find if I go back to snacking or grazing the weight goes back up... and drinking plenty of water has made my skin glow and if I do it before a meal I eat a bit less... and all those little bits less add up.

The theory is great... the execution requires a bit of oomph... (which is in variable supply at the moment).

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/02/2023 21:52

I agree with everything @BeyondMyWits says , but I’d say if you’re feeling brave then go one step further and go for a strict whole foods plan like whole30 to give your metabolism a total shake up and a bit of an ass kicking. You sound like you’re ready to really make some big changes and that can be the driving force for a total life change. Whole 30 (or similar) sounds horrendous on paper but actually, if you struggle with moderation, a zero tolerance approach can be very liberating, and I absolutely 100% guarantee you will feel so good after 2 weeks it will be worth it. I do a round a couple of times a year for a proper reset.

Theredjellybean · 14/02/2023 22:53

No judgement everything and everyone is welcome here...
I was big as a child and young adults, typical yoyo dieter .hit 40 and had lightbulb moment that I was fat because I ate too much.
For me it's really simple...it's calories in vs calories out.
I lost 4.5 stone at 40 and it wasn't until full menopause and two slipped discs in last 18 months that I put a stone on and lost tone...
I try to practice the mindful eating...it worked when I originally realised I should only eat when I'm hungry and not ban foods...no food is good or bad in my life, I eat what I want when I want the only caveat is I need to be properly, genuinely hungry and I stop as soon as even partially satiated.
This naturally restricts calories.
When I'm doing well at this I never snack as really your not hungry between meals .it's more boredom or habit...if I'm not doing well it's mostly due to portion size and alcohol...

effiesgoldwig · 15/02/2023 07:23

Sorry to hear about your dog @poorpaws that's sad news.
Agree with @Theredjellybean that small changes are more achievable and more likely to be maintained long term. If I deny myself something I love and over restrict myself it's more likely to make me fall off the wagon and overeat

TalkToTheHand123 · 15/02/2023 13:02

Hi all. Sorry to hear the bad news.

My advice would be to try keep track of time and exercise before bed (although I'm no GP). It seems to be working for me (although I struggled to get out of bed this morning and ready for bed now).

Plenty water too!

Update on my dog and thank you so much for the kind wishes.

Molly is 12 in April so we were worried about her getting through the anaesthetic. Because the lump had grown so rapidly and was in danger of ulcerating the vet did the op a day early, so yesterday. She got through it well and came home earlier than anticipated. The mass has to go away to be analysed because they aren't sure they've got all the cancer out 😕. She is in a lot of pain because they had to pull her skin so tightly and she had a long row of internal stitches and 16 individual top stitches. Back to the vets tomorrow to make sure there are no infections.

She strictly can't go out for 14 days and has to be carried down my steps to wee, DP is taking my other two out and I'll be head nurse for Molly which means I am missing at least 2.5 hours slow walking per day. I might get DP to take them in the rain and let him stay with Molly in good weather. 🤣

Thank you so much again for your concerns, the main thing is Ive still got her and over £1,000 lighter. I've been eating far too much whilst so worried so I'll just have to pause my weight loss for two weeks and then drive the wagon again, I won't be able to afford food soon anyway 😄

TalkToTheHand123 · 17/02/2023 08:19

Aww tough times @poorpaws .

Had a couple of naps yesterday and have been awake since 4am so sleeping pattern a bit out of wack. 😴

OP posts:
PinkArt · 17/02/2023 12:34

I'm up three pounds this week. I think I'd have had to be eating more than a thousand calories over my maintainance weight every day for that kind of gain, so I'm going to weigh again in a few days to check. It's not been a healthy week at all, but I didn't think it was that bad.

Between that and the doctor needing to discuss 'something' after my 40+ blood tests, I've hopefully had the kick up the bum I need to focus on this again. I have one body and I really need to treat it better.

poorpaws · 17/02/2023 13:39

@PinkArt I'm expecting a huge gain this week too. We'll knuckle down and sort our weight out soon.

@TalkToTheHand123 my sleeping pattern is all over the place as well, I think mine's due to stress.

I'll be glad when the next two weeks are over and life gets back to some sort of normality. In the meantime I'm on dieting pause. My vets is next to Aldi so after we'd taken Molly for her post op appointment I went in for several bars of medicinal chocolate. I'm going to regret this in a couple of weeks. I always find the excuse that I don't drink much alcohol so my poison is chocolate.

TalkToTheHand123 · 17/02/2023 15:57

@PinkArt I've had to be very strict with myself as the slightest detour makes me put on at least half a stone, although I'm sure you are right 😊

@poorpaws hope you get some sleep soon.

I've no chance of any cheeky naps until bedtime now so should be an early night and decent sleep. I'll pay more attention to my sleeping routine from now on as skipping exercise messed me up a bit.

BeyondMyWits · 17/02/2023 17:58

I've noticed a few saying they take an early night to help weightloss... how early is early???

poorpaws · 17/02/2023 18:12

@BeyondMyWits when I was younger I was never in bed until 1-1.30 am (my sis in law is still like this). I started going to bed between 10 - 10.30 but reading mumsnet, then I reduced the hours again and again. Now if it's 9.30 I'm late 😳 although I have to admit it no longer helps my weight loss like it used to as I just binge on chocolate earlier. I should add I don't watch much tv so I don't miss that and I still read mumsnet from my iPad in bed.

I feel so much better in the mornings. Before I didn't want to get out of bed and felt sluggish for the first hour. Now I'm happy to be up. I think I'm the owl who turned into a lark 😁

TalkToTheHand123 · 17/02/2023 19:38

I've always been terrible for staying up too late (early hours). At the moment it's around midnight. I did manage a few nights at about 10pm for a few nights and this seemed to help me lose a few lbs. This seems to be the right time to go to sleep based on my usual schedule, unless I've done a lot of exercise (not very often 😯) where abouts 9pm would be idealish.

I was suggesting a couple hours earlier as I just assumed everyone was like me (sleep deprived) 😂. If you are getting enough sleep then it probably won't help much, although you could do relaxation or tummy clenches if you have time.

Relaxation seems to do wonders on the scales too.
