Hi everyone,

Katy you must be so shattered, no way could I cope if i didn't have enough rest, if you want some advice I'm happy to offer my help, mind u if you search on mn you could probably find loads of people in similar positions with helpful advice, you may be happy to carry on as you are in which case i'll shut up now .

I've been really good since friday, last nigth for dinner i had salad with tuna steaks marinated in italian herbs, was quite nice actually and very good for me! I've made up a big box of salad so i can dip into it for my meals without having to faff about! We're going swimming today to burn a few cals off!!

katylessbumpy · 17/02/2008 09:41

I did the system crysis taught me. It has a different name now. The HV told me that everybody wakes up a few times each night , we all learn to put ourselves back to sleep though. This is what your little minx needs to do.
Have you tried this.
Put her to bed usual bedtime routine.
Then if she doesn't settle (calling for you) or wakes later, go back in. But this time don't reward her for being awake. Don't have I contact, don't talk, don't fuss. Just check there is no reason for her being awake , like a wet nappy, then walk out. Absolutley no Eye contact or patting or talking.
Leave her to cry for 3 minutes.
Then go back in and reapeat, check there is nothing wrong, but don't reward her for being awake, no eye contact minimal touch (check for wrinkles in blanket and out the door. The maximum you should be in the room is 30 seconds at any time.
Then leave her for 5 minutes.
Repeat.
Then leave her for 7 minutes.
Repeat.
Leave her for 11 minutes.
Repeat.
Keep at 11 minutes. Repeat all night if need be. But rarely do you get to a second 11 minute stretch.

Prepare yourself for this before hand. If need to, warn the neighbors that your LO will be crying a lot. Prepare to feel like the cruellest mother in all existance and be sat outside her room with tears running down your face.

It does work, she should be sleeping the night through by the end of the first week, mine took 10 days, but he was SEN.

By staying up with her you are making it a pleasure to be up. You re-inforce it everytime she wakes up, by cuddling, and rocking her. You have to be the boss now or you will never get a decent nights sleep. Your DH has to be in on this as well, he HAS to support you. Just mention that he coukld in all possibility get some nookie if you get some sleep.

Try it, a lot of parents think its cruel and old fashoined, but it does work, and a rested Mum is better for her child than one who would love to strangle her at 3am.

katylessbumpy · 17/02/2008 10:49

discoverlife.thank you
that is what i did with ds1 and ds2.i just can't seem to get my head around it with dd.
it doesn't help that dh works from 3-11 pm so i am on my own so to speak.
she doesn't have a bedtime routine either
she seems to start sleeping for longer stretches and then BAM shes poorly again and we end up starting over.she is teething big time at the moment and has horrendous nappy rash.
i will start it tonight.i have to for my own sanity.

i'll be on here blubbing.you'll have to help me stay away from the chocolate to make me feel better

{{{{{hugs}}}}}} I and the other Mums on here know exactly what you are going through.
It is one of the levelling forces in our lives that we know that even though Jemmima down the road says her LO is wonderful, we know by the shadows under her eyes that she isn't getting much sleep either.

katylessbumpy · 17/02/2008 10:59

so true .she's asleep now hence being on here.i'm going to put her down in a minute and try and get some breakfast.what are your plans for the day?

Taking DS2 up to his Grandmothers for a week. She is then taking him on to Pontins so that he can run riot there.
I really do have to get off here as well because I am in a 'shitty' temper on other posts and will probably get a telling off. I also did not get much sleep. I had a handful of suger free jelly sweets last night and didn't read the warning. 'May have a laxative effect'. Boy did it. I had enough wind to fill a Blimp, and didn't get off the toilet till 4am. And up again at 8 to finish packing DS2's bag. I am looking forward to sleeping in the car.

katylessbumpy · 17/02/2008 11:11

ooh i could do with some of those sweets

why will you get told off???

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, Katy

pollywobbledoodle · 17/02/2008 20:36

katy i also did the prog discover talked about, my twopennorth would be

;don't try it until you've really got yourself set on it(the first time i did it, i wasn't, i cracked and made it worse, the second i was steely inside and she must have sensed it because she lasted for one return visit)

;don't try it if there is a physical reason for her to be unable to settle....not fair on her and you will prob feel too guilty

;don't try it without a bedtime routine to help her....it becomes like pavlovs dogs

;try to limit her daytime sleep

;do try it

;try it when dh/sister will be around for a couple of nights moral support and a cuddle

we have had a busy day with a kids party this am and a 60th for the afternoon over in stratford....haven't been there for years

brekkie...muesli
lunch....(ahem) melon and sweet chilli sauce, lemon sole and veg in a white wine and tarragon sauce, berry cheesecake, sliver of birthday cake
just... crumpet and marmite

could have been worse, there were brekkie butties provided for the adults at the kids party and party rings (which i love)

pollywobbledoodle · 17/02/2008 20:38

am obviously too late , ignore the above!

MrsFish · 17/02/2008 20:46

I made angel delight for ds with full fat milk... he didn't like it so I ate it all Oh why Oh why did I that's a wasted 500 calories out of today.

B = cornflakes with hot water
L = 4 Ryvita with cottage cheese and Jam, 1 toast with flora light
T = Boozy braised beef with mixed veg and 3 slices of Dh's garlic bread.

So not hideous but could have been better. I also feel bloated I don't think AF is far away so may not show a loss this week, will just have to wait and see. Also out Tuesday for a meal for DH's B'day and out wed with the girls for a meal, so will have to up the exercise for this week seeing as my cold and tonsillitis has stopped it last week. Why is it that just as you feel that you are on a good run with something you blinking get ill

MrsFish · 17/02/2008 20:48

Oh and two custard creams and 3 cheddars forgot about them.

pollywobbledoodle · 17/02/2008 20:49

mrs fish....because you have kids and they are harbingers of doom illness......tommorrow is another day and all that....fwiw angels delight is too easy to eat imo because there is no chewing to warn you that your mouth is having it's way with it

fedda · 17/02/2008 20:54

I used to love Angel delight. Oh, and i have ice-cream in my freeza. I must forget it NOW. [hm]

katylessbumpy · 17/02/2008 20:59

thanks for the advice polly.i was going to start tonight but she has been grizzly on and off all day.i figured if i start with some sort of bedtime routine it will be a steo in the right direction
i might be taking her to the doctors in the morning.my mummy senses are telling me that her water infection may be back but i'll see how she goes over night.

well done you on resisting the partyrings.they are lovely.i like to lick the icing til it melts lol

mrsfish draw a line under today and try to excercise more over the next couple of days.any weight you might gain this week will be water weight from af so don't give up x

thanks for the crossed fingers fedda.are you still being kinder to yourself?
