It would appear that all I do is stuff my face with crap, lots of crap.

I'm going to try and sort myself out, starting tomorrow.

I'm scared, I'm useless at dieting but it's getting serious. I'm so unhappy, I caught sight of myself in the window walking past Costa coffee today. It was grim.

Anyone want to join me?

Weigh day tomorrow.

@HairyKnobsAndBroomsticks ouch- I cracked a molar at easter eating some mini eggs that I liberated from the kids' stash- some might say that was karma. Dentist managed to fix the tooth.....for a hundred and fifty quid - fml.

@Stravaig Agree re protein. If you go in the supermarket early evening they usually have a fair bit of fish and meat on yellow sticker so I buy and freeze. Made a lovely fish stew from a bag of yellow sticker fish pie mix I got the other week. Just added chopped tomatoes, stock, chilli, onions and peppers, so pretty healthy and cheap to make.

@MorrisZapp So much evening after the food! Quite often get into bed and watch telly at 9 once the kids are in bed as once I'm cosy in there I dont even think about fridge raiding whereas on the sofa the Jaffa cakes are calling me. Also have found watching live TV (I like drama/whodunnit type stuff) rather than streaming helps as you cant get up to get snacks or you miss a key clue/ plot point.

@PaulineFowlersCardigan As a stop gap can you just put an elastic band through the button hole and then around the button to keep your jeans closed and give you some breathing space? Just wear a longer top to hide it? I basically did this when I was too tight to buy maternity jeans and it works pretty well. I understand the "eating your feelings" thing. I overate yesterday and it was because I was anxious about going to the school quiz ( sounds ridiculous but new group of mum friends as recently moved to a new area). What I have found helpful is actually standing in front of the mirror and saying "I feel X because of Y." I find that acknowledging the feeling and giving myself permission to feel it really helps.

The second week is always hard because you're stuck between beginner's momentum and old timers' habits. I think it's important to get out of a mindset that if you have a bad day you've ruined everything. I listen to Annie Grace a lot (on alcohol) and she made the point that if you exercise for 6 days and then sit on the sofa for one day, it's not like the 6 days haven't counted for anything or that the one day has somehow cancelled out the rest. Sometimes a "streak mentality" that I used to think was helpful can lead to a bit of an all or nothing approach.

Anyway, I need to get off here, strip the beds, take DS's guitar to get repaired and then I'm going to be a smug twat who goes to the gym on a Friday Grin

Runnerduck34 · 14/10/2022 11:31

@paulinefowlerscardigan - reassuring to know it's not just me who gets acid reflux if fasting. Do you know if it eases if you stick with it and push through?
If my body will adjust to 8 hour eating window by this time next week I'll stick with it but can't put up this heartburn permanently!

I'm got on my new whizzy scales this morning and have lost 1.5 kg since mid week so that has motivated me to continue especially after it appeared I had put on weight after dieting for over a week, although that may have down to using 3 sets of scales .
Will stick to this set now and hopefully see results.
I was good at cinema last night and had a finger of fudge rather than my usual sharing bag of chocolate buttons so feeling proud of my self control lol!
However weekend is looming...

@Hairyknobsandbroomsticks
Sorry you've had a rough time with your tooth. I hope pain eases soon.

ofHardey · 14/10/2022 19:51

Checking in to say I've lost 2 lbs since the last weigh in! So I need to lose exactly 12.8 lbs, officially under one stone 🥳

HairyKnobsAndBroomsticks · 14/10/2022 19:52

@ofHardey well done, I'm pleased for you.

Sorry you are struggling @DolphinsAreEvil.

Hosted a dinner tonight and I was all about the lasagne!!!! Oh dear! But resisted any gin which would lead to further lack of resolve.

let’s see how that turns out in the morning. 😂

the weekly shop was filled with lots of sparkling water and veg. I’m not tempted by crisps and other snacks that DH and DD love so There are now no sweeties in the house.

you are so right that the evenings are the tough part. I can fast all day at work without a problem.

Thank you all for the support/ accountability/ check ins. Tomorrow I will start writing down everything I eat in a notebook so I figure out any patterns. It really does require quite a bit of headspace to make it a priority.

Well done to you all for making progress and I’m loving the idea of the scales being slightly out. 🤣

Sodullincomparison · 14/10/2022 22:40

@DolphinsAreEvil tomorrow is a new day. You’ve got this!!!

Sodullincomparison · 14/10/2022 22:41

@ofHardey sweet!!! You’ll be in a great place by Monday.

OhMalakas · 15/10/2022 00:12

I've had a pretty poor week. Wedding anniversary was Wednesday and I used it as an excuse to eat everything in sight. No longer on bedrest and can finally limp around with crutches so there's been a lot of trips to the fridge and kids sweet cupboard. On the plus side I've rediscovered rainbow drops and space raiders. a bag of both is only 100 cals, so stealing my kids sweets has actually been helpful.

Jenasaurus · 15/10/2022 00:19

Hi everyone, thank you for the kind words, I am feeling so much better overnight,
had a sore throat on Wednesday, tested negative (as there is covid in my household took the test) then yesterday, couldn't stop sneezing felt very tired, took another test, very strong positive, slept all day today and woke up feeling much better and hungry even just did another test and an incredibly weak positive, is it really possible I have shortened the virus to just one day, is it down to the 4 vaccines, as a fat, old diabetic I was so scared of this virus and I don't want to undermine anyone else who has suffered worse symptoms (including my DDs boyfriend household who was unwell for 10 days)
but this may be good news for vaccine and diabetics, maybe they do work and at least I know my immune system is still working :)

Stravaig · 15/10/2022 08:50

Mini milestone ~ ½ stone lost 🥳

A bit slower than expected (day 17). I remember easily losing 8 kilos/a stone+ in the first month. Possibly it's the gradual taper off truly excessive amounts of sugar. Or is this the difference between late 30's, and early 50's peri/menopause?

HairyKnobsAndBroomsticks · 15/10/2022 09:03

Well done @Stravaig that's really good news. You must be pleased to reach your milestone.

I'm like you, it was really easy losing weight when I was younger. It takes much more effort now.

Now, don't go celebrating your loss with cake! I am pleased for you.

@Jenasaurus so glad that you are feeling better, there is a lot of civic about at the moment.

I've got my booster on Thursday and I'm having the flu jab at the same time. Not particularly looking forward to it. I'm not bothered by needles but I do seem to get pretty bad side effects from each jab.

Runnerduck34 · 15/10/2022 09:28

@stravaig
That's amazing!! Congratulations.
Would you mind sharing your diet plan??
I'm well and truly lagging behind:(
Out for pre theatre dinner tonight as well so will try not to eat hardly anything else today and pick healthier options for dinner.
I definitely think losing weight in your 50s is harder than your 20s !
I could lose a few pounds in a week when in my 20s fairly effortlessly and when I was still in the healthy weight category.
Now I'm 51 and obese it's much slower coming off.
Just going to keep trying.

DolphinsAreEvil · 15/10/2022 09:31

Thanks, tested positive for Covid this morning, off to drown my sorrows by eating my body weigh in M&M’s 🤦🏻‍♀️

TabithaTittlemouse · 15/10/2022 09:52

I’m backkkkkkk! I managed to make (mostly) healthy food choices while away although drank a lot of alcohol. I did walk a lot though and drank gallons of water.
I weighed this morning and am down 3 pounds from the first weigh in which I’m happy with.

Stravaig · 15/10/2022 10:34

@HairyKnobsAndBroomsticks So far I have celebrated by not having coffee this morning 😇 Downfall imminent ...

I've been valiantly ignoring reports that it's harder to lose weight in perimenopause. Lalalalalala

@Runnerduck34 No diet plan as such, as my current eating habits have been formed around chronic illness.

I've removed vast quantities of sugar (chocolate/icecream/biscuits), easily 1500 calories a day (which I was using to fake normal energy levels).

My base eating pattern is wake with green/blue/black tea and a strip of dark chocolate. Meal 1 at 11-12 am, usually egg-based, sometimes beans. Meal 2 around 3-4 pm, mostly vegetables with some meat/fish/beans. That's it.

Very roughly, I suppose my food content is Whole 30/low carb; meal pattern is 16:8 intermittent fasting; and calorie count is similar to Fast800. Sort of!

I fell into this when I first became ill, because I could barely stand at the stove for long enough to scramble some eggs, and organising two healthy meals a day took every scrap of energy I had. Great for (unintended) weight loss, but I ended up very underweight. Hence the sugar. So my other big challenge will come at healthy weight, when I absolutely must find a way to increase healthy calories/have a third meal, and not just turn to sugar again.

Stravaig · 15/10/2022 10:36

That was long and I am exhausted!

HairyKnobsAndBroomsticks · 15/10/2022 10:50
