Where's the best place to buy from? And does a 1mg pen last 4 weeks? I'm a little confused

Thanks in advance

@tripthelightfantastically yep you'll need to complete it as it's a private prescription. You're asking the doctor to prescribe you something so this is your consult if that makes sense

Thank you

How are you all getting on?

ThisIsTrifficult · 09/09/2022 15:10

@tripthelightfantastically I'm almost 4lbs down after injecting 0.25 on Sunday. I've generally felt good. The last 2 nights I've had a headache.
But I just don't fancy eating. When I do, I can have a bowl of cereal or half a bagel, a small wrap or similar and I'm done. There's no ravenous feeling either so don't want to grab the nearest cheap carb fix.
I think I'll try 0.25 again on Sunday Eve as planned and see how week 2 goes. Good luck!

magicstar1 · 09/09/2022 15:25

I’m about to start Ozempic, but I’m in Ireland. It’s prescription only, and my doctor took bloods first to check me for diabetes etc. Are you all just buying it without seeing a doctor?

xippo · 09/09/2022 16:05

how do you get it if you haven't had it before?
consultation states this

Have you taken this medication before?*

Doodar · 09/09/2022 16:17

do you just have to fib on the form?

Orangesandlemons82 · 09/09/2022 21:56

Yes, I did 😳

Orangesandlemons82 · 09/09/2022 21:57

@Doodar sorry my reply above was to you

Doodar · 09/09/2022 22:37

Oooook :)

I'm on a similar medication because I'm diabetic and the side effects are horrific. I can't understand why anyone would take this willingly.

There's a reason GPS don't prescribe this for just being a few stone overweight, it's long term weight loss management for being morbidly obese or as diabetic treatment.

RaspberrySweeties · 09/09/2022 22:44

You do have to fib, yes. A little

That’s what I was wondering. I am morbidly obese so it’s suitable for me, and it’s under medical supervision. I see people taking it for a stone or two, and without any doctors input.

RaspberrySweeties · 10/09/2022 18:07

Yea that's me with the stone to lose. Well, 20lbs

And , on balance, I think I may have to knock it on the head. It's been 9 days and I've taken 0.5 split over two doses

Felt headachey, sicky , tired on and off for those days. Haven't been able to sleep properly either which hasn't helped at all

So I'm due to take my next dosage and I'm not sure if I've got it in me to do it. I know I should ride out the side effects but I'm wondering if this is wise for me to take it with a stone and a half to lose?

hopeishere · 11/09/2022 12:51

Would this be a good way to kick start some weight loss?

Orangesandlemons82 · 12/09/2022 11:13

@hopeishere I think if you have a fair bit to lose it can be really helpful in resetting your eating habits. I'm needing to lose around 5 stone and have will have been on it one week tomorrow. I think I have been lucky and haven't had too many side effects.

HanarCantWearSweaters · 15/09/2022 22:13

@FlorencePennnywell I’ve been too chicken to use it until now, it’s just been sitting in my fridge. But now I’ve geared myself up for it I’m wondering did I buy the wrong one? My pen says 1mg on the sticker and the little dial only has 1mg printed on it when I wind the wheel all the way around. Have I been a numpty or is there something obvious I’m missing?

Also, because I’m a chicken: the video I watched on YT had the needle already poking out because they’d done a test push, and then you put that into the skin. I was hoping it would be flat surface of the pen then push it in so I don’t see it. Does it hurt more this way? And would you recommend tummy or thigh for it?

I am, apparently, a baby.

FlorencePennnywell · 15/09/2022 23:19

@HanarCantWearSweaters just ignore the 1mg on the pen and turn it 18 clicks for 0.25 and 26 for 0.5 - it's as simple as that

Needle doesn't hurt at all. Barely feel it. I'd recommend stabbing it in your thigh

Well I took 2 doses in total - one dose on a Thursday night and the other on the Sunday

I spent a full week feeling sick and tired so I've had to stop it full stop. Writing ' I felt sick and tired' doesn't sound like much written down I know. But I was sick three times over the week, felt a bit dizzy and headachey, really nauseous, not sleeping properly yet very tired and it just wasn't working for me

Yes I could have rode out the side effects but I just didn't want to as I can't stand feeling so vomity and under the weather

Fingers crossed you will sail through! Side effects are not a given at all

HanarCantWearSweaters · 15/09/2022 23:27

Thanks OP, have taken the first 0.25mg just now. Fingers crossed.
Sorry to hear it was rough for you, but at least now you know and you’ve given it a shot and won’t be wondering what if, it’s all we can do

FlorencePennnywell · 16/09/2022 12:00

@HanarCantWearSweaters hope all goes well. I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine. Info wonder if I should have just got on with it but then I think about just how utterly horrible I felt for a full week and I know it's not right for me

OP posts:
HanarCantWearSweaters · 16/09/2022 12:05

Well it’s lunchtime and I’ve realised I’ve forgotten to eat anything so that’s unusual for me. I feel absolutely fine though so now I’ve convinced myself it didn’t work, even though I saw the drop at the end of the needle 🤦🏻‍♀️

Orangesandlemons82 · 16/09/2022 16:19

@FlorencePennnywell sorry you didn't get on with the ozempic. Have you tried saxenda? I couldn't tolerate saxenda but have been ok with ozempic so might be worth trying as there does seem to be a difference between the two.

helenabonhamfarter · 18/09/2022 10:22

I'm having a miserable time too. Lots of vomiting and to be honest I'd rather be a bit pudgy than miserable. The burps and heart burn are also disgusting.
I have reduced my dose back down to 0.25mg this week. If I still can't tolerate that I will also quit.

PS. I think it was a typo but 0.5mg is 36 clicks not 26clicks

Cantonet · 18/09/2022 10:35

Has anyone here switched from Saxenda to Ozempic? I've got a few more days of Saxenda doses left & I've just ordered an Ozempic pen. I'm reacting locally to the Saxenda, especially in my tummy, so I think it's safer to change over to one injection a week. However I'm wondering whether I need to leave a gap between stopping one & starting another.
Why are certain people starting on a higher dose of Ozempic than advised ? Because surely that will cause more side effects? Only once a week 0.25 mg is recommended for the first month, so your body acclimatises.

LighterHeart · 18/09/2022 11:02

I am so grateful that I haven't experienced drastic side-effects, even on 1.5mg. (I went back to 1mg after that due to cost.) On the contrary, any queasiness I felt helped me make better choices with my food (increased protein and veg, lowered carbs and UPFs). I have been on Oz since February and have just reached the BMI of exactly 25, from 32. That's over 22% of my starting weight.

Talking about starting doses, I started on 0.5 as that was the only one available and I didn't know much about clicks at the time. However, I suppose due to my size (I'm 5'10") and the fact that I never had gastric nor gallbladder issues in the past, it went well.
