Ozempic. Where to buy from?

Where's the best place to buy from? And does a 1mg pen last 4 weeks? I'm a little confused

Thanks in advance

I started Ozempic 5 weeks ago and have just upped the dose to 0.5mg.
I love how I really don't feel hungry but have struggled with the side effects.
The delayed gastric emptying means if you do eat or drink a larger amount I end up vomiting. I have learned my lesson and am on holiday this week so just ordering child's portions.
The sulphur burps aren't nice but seem to be settling and I also struggled with a very dry mouth initially by chewing gum helped this. I haven't yet weighed myself yet but my clothes are definitely looser and even my husband commented yesterday that I had lost weight.
Will weigh myself when next week and report back.

FlorencePennnywell · 30/08/2022 21:27

@helenabonhamfarter do keep us posted as I'd be interested to hear how you're finding it

I think my main side effect concern is nausea and insomnia!

Thanks for the pharmacy info, I’m due a new pen next week so will try them as that’s the best price I’ve seen.

Also, you might get lucky and not have any real side effects. I’ve been on it 3 months and the only issue I’ve had is with a roast dinner one week which felt like it took 2 days to go down! But no nausea or vomiting luckily, although I do use MyFitnessPal to stick to around 1200kcal as a max and I’m only usually only hungry enough to eat one proper meal a day.

FlorencePennnywell · 31/08/2022 00:18

@Grumbleton thanks for the post. Sounds like you're doing well - how much have you lost so far?

@Forconfessingonly

have you tried Boots? I recently changed prescription from Victoza to Ozempic and they have been able to get it for me easily.

Astounding · 31/08/2022 01:08

I’ve been looking into trying this. I’m 9.10 and 5’ and have high BP and cholesterol. I just can’t seem to shift the weight. Have lost a bit on exante but I mean a really little bit and it gives me evil wind. I’d like to shift a stone as I’ve also got arthritis. Do you need to clear it with a GP or is it safe to just buy it and start at 0.25 a week ?

FlorencePennnywell · 31/08/2022 08:51

@Astounding you can just buy it privately - what's your BMI?

OP posts:
Astounding · 31/08/2022 09:01

Florence thanks. BMI is 27. I’m having major back problems and walking is really painful. The Pain Management team did say that any weight lost is less strain on the joints. Even though I don’t have loads to lose, progress is ridiculously slow though. I’m 61so maybe being a bit older makes it more difficult to shift anything ?

FlorencePennnywell · 31/08/2022 10:52

@Astounding I have a similar ish BMI to you - well, 28! - and I'm also peri menopausal at 50. I've lost 2.5 stone since April with healthy eating and exercise so yep, it can be done just fine when you're a little older.

I'm keen to try this because I'm struggling now with this last stone and a half. I thought I'd try it at the lowest dose and see how I get on. The ideal would be appetite suppression!

OP posts:
FlorencePennnywell · 31/08/2022 10:53

@Astounding I've done exante type stuff in the past and it's just not sustainable in the long run is it?

OP posts:
Astounding · 31/08/2022 11:29

Florence. Yes appetite suppression would be really good. I’ve got such a big appetite and am always hungry. You’ve done so well so far. Am tempted to try it but am on so much other medication for various conditions I’m a bit worried to not run it past a doctor first. Do you think you’re going to give it a go?

Astounding · 31/08/2022 12:02

Grumbleton. I’ve just emailed London Pharmacy. Someone replied really quickly and said because ozempic has to be refrigerated they have to use a certain courier and because of the cost of that they only delivery within London. Just thought I’d save you some time if you live elsewhere (which I do unfortunately). Was very impressed with such a prompt reply though,

FlorencePennnywell · 31/08/2022 15:41

@Astounding I'm not in London and 'my London pharmacy' are sending to me? It's been sent today via next day tracked delivery.

They do offer nationwide delivery so but confided at their response to you? Definitely got the right company?

OP posts:
FlorencePennnywell · 31/08/2022 15:42

@Astounding I'm very nervous about it - can't bear to feel nauseous for example! But I think I'll start with the lowest dose and see how it goes.

I'll report back anyway!

HanarCantWearSweaters · 31/08/2022 15:57

Could you link to where you get yours from OP? I’ve tried googling but just getting pharmacies in London rather than one called that specifically.
I had a gastric sleeve done privately 4 years ago and lost a lot, then covid happened and everything got really bad again and I’ve regained a lot. Really need something to kickstart it again, I hate that I’ve gone backwards.

OP posts:
FlorencePennnywell · 31/08/2022 16:45

@HanarCantWearSweaters how much would you like to lose? I can understand it must be super frustrating for you to have gained some back

OP posts:
HanarCantWearSweaters · 31/08/2022 17:46

Thanks OP that’s great. What pen did you start with?

I’ve got a lot to lose, a lot more than you do. I wonder if it’s not as useful for bigger loses maybe. And I eat when I’m not hungry anyway just cravings for sweet and savoury food constantly and wanting to eat every chance I get but not actually physically hungry, so maybe it wouldn’t be effective for me that way either. I’ve joined the gym for weights and trying to start running too but just really need to stamp down my eating.

FlorencePennnywell · 31/08/2022 18:44

@HanarCantWearSweaters it is so so hard isn't it? And I actually think it'll work better with more to lose - you'll probably see bigger losses which should be more motivating

Weights is a great idea too

OP posts:
DareDevil223 · 31/08/2022 18:59

@HanarCantWearSweaters I've lost four stone so far and want to lose another 4/5 so it really does help with big losses. It helps me feel normal around food which is a revelation after years of yoyo dieting and disordered eating.

DareDevil223 · 31/08/2022 19:07

I still feel hungry before my meals but I have very strong "stop eating now" signals and i don't crave stuff and I only really think about food when it's time to eat, sometimes I can't be bothered to eat. It's very odd when you're someone who used to think about food all the time.

It's not a magic bullet, you have to put the effort in but it's worked very well for me. The side effects were a bit rough to start with but now I hardly get any (bit queasy if I eat a little too much, the dreaded sulphur burps if I eat something too rich) but I haven't had to increase my dose up form 0.5mg i just take it a little more frequently but I do tend to be sensitive to medications generally.

It also has a protective effect on the cardio-vascular system which is reassuring. Apparently the dosage for Wegovy (the version of semaglutide that is licensed for weight loss and which will be available later this year) is 2.7mg I cannot imagine injecting that much, i wouldn't be able to eat a thing!

helenabonhamfarter · 31/08/2022 20:17

I didn't mention where I get mine from.
I use Health Express and live in the absolute sticks.
It arrives wrapped in insulating fabric and cool blocks. Never had an issue.

FlorencePennnywell · 31/08/2022 20:31

I think I'll try 0.25 to start with as I'm really concerned about side effects.

I've ordered the 1mg pen and my understanding is that that would last me 4 weeks if I was injecting the 1mg each week? So if I use less, it'll last longer?

I know each pen needs to be binned after 8 weeks is it?

And storage. Does it need to be kept in the fridge? And I take it it'll come with enough needles?

If you order a 1mg pen you will get 16 0.25mg does out of it (18 clicks) but 0.5mg is the first effective dose for weight loss effects, you may get an effect with 0.25mg though. Pens come with four needles, I bought a box of 100 of the 4mm needles.

They recommend using for 8 weeks but I've had pens longer and it hasn't lost its effect. I keep my pens in the fridge all the time but I think they can be kept out of the fridge once they've been used for the first time.

Grumbleton · 31/08/2022 21:00

I’ve lost 30lbs so far but I have a bit (a lot) more to lose than you @FlorencePennnywell, even now my bmi is still over 35.

But to answer your other questions, yes it needs to stay in the fridge and if you are using a 1mg pen for 0.25mg shots you won’t have enough needles for the the whole pen. But I believe you can get extra needles from Amazon (search for 4mm needles) or online pharmacy’s do them too.
