Hope you feel better soon.

MrsBigD - WELL DONE!

I've found the GI diet really works for me.

MrsBigD · 15/01/2005 09:58

GI is definitely great... good thing I lurve salads and veggies

bran · 15/01/2005 19:18

Well done MrsBigD. Have you found that it makes a difference to how you are feeling too? I've been trying to incorporate GI principals into my WW diet and I really feel that it has helped to combat my sugar cravings, especially at the dangerous time of the working afternoon that always used to make me want chocolate.

MrsBigD · 15/01/2005 19:29

bran - most definitely helps with sugar/sweet cravings... though I have to admit I slipped today... instead of my aftrnoon snack of houmus and cracker I had a biscuit... damn that time of the month

monkeygirl · 16/01/2005 11:53

Well done MrsBigD - ah what's one sodding biscuit eh.

Inspired by several of you, I too am now trying the GI diet as it seems very sensible and nearly what I was doing (well trying to) except I have decided to carry on with drinking caffeine for now and wine occasionally. I bought the Tescos book and will try the chickpea/chorizo recipe tonight or tomorrow as it sounds delicious!

Bran, you sound very centred about your progress. I have the same as you had to lose and know it's a long-haul but still feel impatient even though, as I have said, if I'd just lost a pound a month or every 2 months, I wouldn't be in this position now. Ho hum, onwards and downwards...

MrsBigD · 16/01/2005 12:20

I'm deffo not cutting out caffein... need my cuppa to get going in the morning

PuffTheMagicDragon · 16/01/2005 13:00

If you do want to try an instant decaff coffee, I can recommend the m&s one (it has a red cap on the jar). It's the only one I've tried that tastes as good as ordinary.

bran · 16/01/2005 13:20

Monkeygirl , centred isn't a word I often hear used in the same sentence as my name. Usually I'm one of those people that start things with great enthusiasm and then lose interest very quickly so I decided from the start not to be too competative with myself about speed of loss.

I'm entirely with you about the morning cup of coffee MrsBigD. I have mine as soon as I get into the office and anyone who tries to talk to me before I'm at least half-way down the cup is just asking for trouble. I only drink de-caff in the afternoons though, which is a vast improvement on my previous caffeine consumption.

Essbee, welcome back and congratulations on your weightloss, everyone here at Mumsnet is far to nice and caring to say "I told you so" about not eating enough (except me obviously ).

Kittypickle · 16/01/2005 16:02

Afternoon everyone. Congratulations to Essbee and MrsBigD (and to anyone else I've missed out, apologies if I have) This GI business has been a bit of a revelation to me. I'm doing what Bran is doing, WW and incorporating low GI foods as much as possible. I seem to have had a personality transplant, much calmer, not so snappy, hardly ever hungry between meals, no sugar cravings and it's my TOTM. DH looks a very relieved man !

Can I try and join in? I was going to join Cod's but I seemed to have a bit more to lose than most of them (they were all talking in pounds when I posted and I'm thinking in stone!), and think I'll be left disheartened when they've all done and I'm still sat here! I've got about 3 stone to lose . Just seen you felt the same FFF! My weight was creeping up for about a year but has shot up after being pregnant. I'm still breastfeeding DS (10 weeks) but the weight seems to be going nowhere despite a very good week last week (no snacks at all really, small amounts of chocolate in the evenings as really craving it post xmas), and doing the davina work out (!) or a really long walk every day, nothing seems to have gone anywhere . Think I thought this would be easier than it is. Currently in size 16's. Would in a really ideal world, like to be a 12, but would be happy with a 14 for a little while as I'm nearly 5ft9.

My main downfall is cake, chocolate, ice cream, wine, pasta, and generally making meals too big! I did do the cereal thing for 4 days, but found it quite tough and think it's not the best idea while BF. I, for the meantime, am just going to try and eat healthier and less rather than follow a particular diet. Cheaper and I know it will be ok while BF! I think Wednesdays will be my weighing day, but I'm going to write down all my measurements as well! Got to find some hope from somewhere. Planning to do more excercis too, swimming, the Davina workout seemsgood too as I don't have time to get out on my own after having DS. I have skimmed through this thread but hope to get to know you all a bit better soon!

champs · 16/01/2005 17:23

hi flosam, welcome!!
measurements will let you see if you are losing inches, and kept me more optimistic when it seemed that I wasn't lossing weight.

OP posts:
MrsBigD · 16/01/2005 17:29

welcome flossam measurements are a good gauge for loosing inches and shaping up, especially if you're working out... muscles weigh more than flab, so you might get disheartnened about not loosing weight when in fact... you're loosing flab and gaining tone

MrsBigD · 16/01/2005 17:31

p.s. I lapsed a bit this weekend... those monthly cravings are stronger than me, but saying that... have no way been as bad as I used to be during these few days of 'suffering' so not beating myself up about it. Have been VERY ratty today (dh can vouch for that) so had to have a little treat (love those mini size kitkats )

glitterfairy · 16/01/2005 18:53

Champs PG CONGRATS!!! I know how much this means to you.

I am going to be good I am going to be good I am going to be good. My DH is away in the states and I am going to try not to comfort eat or to boredom eat! Anyway at least no wine at all.

LunarSea · 17/01/2005 10:47

champs - what is it with mothers? I saw mine this weekend and she said to me "You're still putting on weight aren't you - when are you going to start doing something about it?" And that's despite the fact that I've lost 5 and a half stone, and am a lot slimmer now than she is, and eat a lot more healthily too! It's as if she sees me in one of those fairground distorting mirrors!

PuffTheMagicDragon · 17/01/2005 11:00

Welcome Flossam .

I'm in for the long haul - lost just over 3 stone - aiming for another 3 to 4. EEK!

monkeygirl · 17/01/2005 11:08

Welcome Flossam!

Another one here in for the long-haul.

I also have a mother who is not exactly supportive, to say the least. She is completely obsessed with food (hm, wonder where I got that from then!), and always insists on trying to send me home with a boot full of choc and cakes, yet judges how nice people are on how thin they are . Must say the only nasty comments I've had about my size have been from my parents (and it's definitely not cruel to be kind, just cruel).

Evesmama · 17/01/2005 11:14

i cant imagine ill be in this for anything other than the long haul, so can i join you please

monkeygirl · 17/01/2005 11:29

But of course Evesmama - welcome aboard!

Evesmama · 17/01/2005 11:35

thanks
weigh...a lot..both dp and i decided to cut out takaways, chocolate and to eat more fruit and veggies, not really 'dieting' just eating better..i lost 2lb the first week and 1lb this week(hoping to have a good loss next week as its time of month too).
will soon have to start eating better/heathier food as i have a lot to lose.

FineFigureFio · 17/01/2005 11:37
