@TalkToTheHand123... Take that compliment.. Cus you have lost loads.
I have a new diet hack... Yesterday got up at 6:30, had wee, Weighed myself.. Scales said 72.2...fed dogs, had coffee, got dsd off to school. Went back to bed at 7am...lay in bed mumsnetting until 8:45...got up Weighed again... 71.8...thats a pound off by lying in bed on mumsnet.
So clearly trying it again today.
Unfortunately I can only do until 8am as off to help at food bank before work.
I am getting up again in five mins I report back on second weigh in... First was 71.9 today... Very pleased

TalkToTheHand123 · 04/10/2022 08:01

Aww thanks @poorpaws .

I haven't done much exercise in the last couple of days as too tired from a few long shifts and previous exercise catching up with me. Late nights likely also, but I should be able to get back on it later this week.

Making smaller batches of soup more regularly seems better for me at the moment.

Having a lie in this morning so doing a few tummy clentches. Feeling muscles more and more so must be on track.

I keep looking in the cupboards for naughty food but nothing there 😂

triplecheeese · 04/10/2022 17:22

@poorpaws OMG! That sounds like an absolute farce with poor Cassie Houdini! I mean everyone enjoys a bit of slapstick but it sounds so stressful! I'm glad she's super fit other wise (fitter than me by the sounds of it) and hope she's on the mend soon so you can get some order back.

Stir fries sound nice. Anyone got a food flask? I just bought some for me and DH to try to make us take food to work. I'm starting with rice and meatballs tomorrow... oh wait it would be perfect for SOUP

65.0kg today - fine by me! I'm going to have to move to Tuesday weigh in because I always seem to be too busy on Monday.

@TalkToTheHand123 you asked about tummy clenches... when I was recovering from my births I did loads of pelvic floor work using the NHS squeezy app which had the effect of strengthening the tummy as well. I got out of the habit of it so must start again...

TalkToTheHand123 · 04/10/2022 23:19

Aww @triplecheeese , so glad you agree. I've been mocked a few times for this by a few people, so nice to be reassured!

Haven't done any mini sit-ups for a couple of nights as too zonked, but have managed a bit of simulated running to keep me ticking over. Few days off now so I should be able to give the exercise some welly......or fail miserably 😂

poorpaws · 05/10/2022 09:00

@TalkToTheHand123 I cannot understand why you would be mocked, who would do that.

I remember many years ago when I used to virtually live at the gym and was very slim, there was a very very big lady huffing and puffing and doing her damnedest to get fit. I was in awe of her, I thought she was magnificent. She had such a massive hill to climb but she was doing it. I wanted to tell her this but I was afraid to in case she didn't believe me because I saw a few people giggling at her and I was furious. People who are doing their best should never be mocked.

I'm doing ok-ish, but still can't get into exercise although I have more time now. Cassie's leg is no better so I could be grounded for weeks. I am trying with food though. I'm just off food shopping to buy stir fries.

Have a good Wednesday everyone.

I’d like to join.

I have a target of ‘healthy’ BMI by the time I go on a big trip in mid January. I’ve started well by losing a couple of kilos in a two weeks. I know my loss will slow from here but it’s really kicked my motivation into gear.

The best thing is that before I started losing weight my blood pressure was anywhere between 127 and 143 systolic and tonight when I measured it was 116! I even took it again because I thought there was a mistake 😁

triplecheeese · 05/10/2022 10:29

@TalkToTheHand123 some people are scathing about things they don't understand and often feel threatened by others doing something to improve their own lives. My DM in particular reacts with disproportionate anger whenever I mention exercise. Shes also very critical of overweight people improving themselves like the gym lady @poorpaws mentioned, which I think is because she is overweight herself, unhappy but not dieting or exercising. Also mean but that's a different thread 😛

my healthy food shop has arrived! Now I just actually have to cook & eat it. Have had a really tough few days with bad news and just want to hit the doughnuts!

poorpaws · 05/10/2022 11:34

@bluetongue welcome to our very friendly and supportive thread. I hope you stick with us and do well.

I've done my shopping and it's all looking quite healthy. I even bought cornflakes instead of the more calorific crunchy nut ones. Bought my parsnips and onions to make more soup too. I'm feeling a bit saintly, I hope it lasts.

@triplecheeese your DM sounds a little unkind. You are doing magnificently well here so ignore.

TheLastStark · 05/10/2022 14:01

Hi all, dragging my bum for the x time into a weight loss thread.

Really hoping I can stick to it now. I am getting so fed up with this yoyo-ing.

poorpaws · 05/10/2022 15:06

@TheLastStark you are in the right place. Stick with us, a lot of yo-yo dieters here (including me). We support each other and just keep trying.

OP posts:
BeyondMyWits · 05/10/2022 16:42

Hiya all, definitely a yoyo here too.

Am losing weight "on average" over the last 4 months though, (up a pound this week, but still generally heading down overall) so this thread is keeping me moving in the right direction. Just checking in every so often is a bit of a reminder to not eat my way round the kitchen!!

TalkToTheHand123 · 05/10/2022 21:28

@poorpaws It was my mam and dad, which isn't anything new and so a little les of an impact. It makes me more motivated now though, which needs to be as I've been pigging out all day. 😂

I've had a long walk around the shopping centre, been to the gym and a did a little exercise tonight so damage shouldn't be too bad! (simulated running as not enough energy or motivation for mini situps recently).

triplecheeese · 06/10/2022 09:19

Just laughing to myself on the train and thought it might give some of you a giggle.

My baby slept through for the first time meaning it was my first 7hr sleep in years! I woke up full of zeal to make today a Good Day. Packed a healthy lunch, sorted some work emails, dropped off the children at nursery bright and early, marched to the gym to get some exercise in before work. Realised upon getting to gym that... my gym kit is in the pram. Which is at nursery. Got to work and went to the fridge to put my lunch in... only to realise that the lunch is still in my kitchen.

oh well!

TalkToTheHand123 · 06/10/2022 15:56

Aww @triplecheeese . What did you do for lunch instead? I usually go off the rails when I forget to bring my lunch.

The plan for today was to have a fancy ice-cream only at a pub on way home as play area for dd6 (it was either that or the park😂), but ended up a 'small' carvery and no ice-cream 😔. An improvement on last time when a regular was ordered.😊

BeyondMyWits · 06/10/2022 17:15

Hahaha @triplecheeese I remember those brain fart days of early parenthood... thank god they are long gone!

( Though now I'm menopausal I have started to do similar things again!)

triplecheeese · 06/10/2022 17:28

@TalkToTheHand123 i went for a walk at lunch what with no gym and found a sushi place so that was not too bad. My love for carvery is well documented on this thread and I've got one on Sunday so I'd better get a gym trip in somewhere!

@BeyondMyWits does it get better at some point?! My brain is like a wet cake. Mmm cake

BeyondMyWits · 06/10/2022 17:52

Haha, yes it does get better... but I think it is still present mildly til mid primary school when lists become absolutely key and take away the general feeling of "oh for goodness sake"!

poorpaws · 06/10/2022 18:10

😁 @triplecheeese. But did you really take those children to nursery ... 🤔

OP posts:
triplecheeese · 06/10/2022 20:01

@poorpaws hahahhaa! Hopefully someone would have mentioned if I'd turned up at the office with them!

Chattycathydoll · 06/10/2022 23:23

@triplecheeese it does get better, truly! You have my sympathies- the early days are so all consuming. The good thing is that even if you forgot it, you were well-packed bright and early. There will come a day when they always sleep through… so you will have established these good habits ready. That’s amazing!

Chattycathydoll · 06/10/2022 23:35

I’ve not done so great with eating. Not totally off the rails but not great. The review that I mentioned didn’t go well, not only from my perspective, but… it just didn’t go well.
They set up a meeting this week and effectively said, ‘it seems we expected too much from you to take on a role of such responsibility after a break from the industry’ (I was made redundant during covid, it’s been a struggle) ‘luckily we have New Person who wanted to work at Company, they are doing this job already at Rival. You can work out your fixed-term contract and after that we have a position for you as New Person’s assistant and they will be taking on the project.’

It’s demotivating and demoralising and I suspect they had discussed this with New Person ahead of my review. Even though my direct colleagues are pleased with my work and unhappy with this decision which was made by someone who handles strategy, not the work itself. I feel bitter doing my work knowing someone will take the project off me in a month, knowing I’ll take a step down in seniority and salary, and there’s nothing I can do because I need the job. It also sucks for New Person, they will essentially be walking into a hostile environment.

Anyway. I wish I didn’t use it as an excuse to overeat but I’ve been resentful and moody and filled the void with sugar. On the plus side I love my new gym and have been 3 times this week and will go again on Saturday. My fitness levels are vastly improved since I started trying to be healthy even if my diet is not.

poorpaws · 07/10/2022 07:51

Oh bless you @Chattycathydoll I have no words of wisdom but please be easy on yourself, you've had a rotten time and I'm so sorry for you.

I'm not sure if this will help you but the very same thing happened to my daughter. She was very very good at her job and expected a promotion when her colleague left and it was unexpectedly give you to someone else in the company who had no experience in that particular role. My daughter was heartbroken and then she was hauled over the coals for having an attitude! This was two days after she found out that the job wasn't hers. She was called into a meeting and told that she had to knuckle down or leave so she just left. It was much easier for her at that time because she lived at home and had no dependents or partner. What upset her most was that she was told the other girl was brilliant because she had a college qualification in English, my daughter had an English degree from University! Anyway she joined a recruitment agency and eventually got a job. She's since then had two promotions within the job and enjoys it more and gets paid more than she would have in the original one. This is a very long winded way of saying you never know what's around the corner and you could end up in a few years time with something much better.

My heart does go out to you because I remember how we all felt around the time it happened to my daughter, it was a certainty that she was going to get the promotion and none of us could fathom it at all, sad times.

No wonder you are filling the void with sugar so would I. Big hugs and take care of yourself, I genuinely really feel for you, bless you. X

poorpaws · 07/10/2022 08:05

@Chattycathydoll I would try to use this time as a huge learning curve, (and get my revenge in time), gain all the knowledge/qualifications you can to move to something better in a year or so. Still excel at what you do, make them sorry they didn't see your worth and make it impossible to give you a bad reference when you do leave. Revenge is a dish best served cold. Glide like a swan across the water and paddle like hell underneath. You can do this I'm sure of it, don't let them break you! Bring out your actress skills and be charming, efficient, helpful and plot your escape to something much better.

OP posts:
endlesswashing · 07/10/2022 09:11

I really frel for you @Chattycathydoll please don't beat yourself up over this. I second what @poorpaws has said. This is an uncomfortable blip, you deserve to feel more respected for your work. It's horrid when you are sidelined or demoted but it's not forever. Focus on the future and moving on eventhough the interim may be difficult.

Oh no @triplecheeese I think I would have cried. Well done you for laughing, walking and going for sushi.

I've not weighed this week but will early next week. I keep putting it off as I know I'm still not eating as well as I should.

Zebracat · 07/10/2022 10:25

@Chattycathydoll That really sucks. @poorpaws has given such good advice. I have been in a similar position and it was awful, but I am proud that the new person coming in found me welcoming efficient and bright! But start looking for a new job.
Ive been having a lovely time this week empty nesting, been out a lot and had family round. Didn’t make great choices with the meals out, but I tried to balance it at home and after going up a bit, the scales have come down again. I’m now at 15st 131/2. So lovely to be out of the 16s.Another family meal tonight. I’m not going back to 16 something tho.
