@TalkToTheHand123 I was weighing daily and have been doing for a very long time. I weighed yesterday as it was Monday and Day 1 of the challenge but I'm not allowing myself to look at the scales again until next Monday to stop this obsession.

I am trying to keep very busy to stop my food cravings. I find if I just sit down at night watching tv, I keep obsessing about what I can eat next. TBH I've fallen out with the tv, I don't want to watch it. I'm busying myself with sorting out cupboards and my filing is the next job. Has anyone else got receipts/manuals for items they discarded years ago, it's madness. I've noticed that some of the receipts are now blank, the print has worn over years, so I've got little blank pieces of paper 🥴.

When do you all do you're excises (home exercises I don't go to a gym or swimming)? I get up at 7. Dp arrives at 8.30-9.00am and we chat then walk the dogs until lunch. After lunch he might do diy, gardening etc and I cook or clean or on lazy days we just chat. He leaves at 4.00 pm then I feed dogs, feed me,wash up etc and I cant exercise on a full tummy. In the evenings I clean the kitchen floor etc (jobs having three dogs have to be done more often) and I go to bed very early. Yesterday I was determined to do half an hours exercise but the best time for me is after dinner (say 6-ish) and I was too full so I got on with light housework. Am I making excuses not to do it, I think I am. I don't want to exercise when DP is here and I have a light lunch so am very ready for dinner and don't want to postpone it. Surely I don't want to be up at 6 to fit it in, I used to do this when I was young and slim. Looking at my day, please when would you exercise? (Didn't want to list everything I do as it would be a long boring list but obviously I shower etc before DP arrives). Do I want to be exercising at 8pm it seems late and I'm very tired in the evening. Help!

Have a good Day 2 everyone. (Sorry this is along post, I'm trying to re-organise my days to get things done,

@poorpaws , if I've read that correctly you are already walking from 8.30am until lunch? So about 4hrs a day? I would consider that excellent daily exercise if I were you!!!

endlesswashing · 27/09/2022 09:25

Agreed @Katiepants27 that's good day exercise @poorpaws.

Well, I've finally been on the scales and I'm ashamed to say I've put on 9lbs since going on holiday mid August. The worst part is I only gained 2lbs on holiday so the rest has gone on during September 😫
I'm my own worst enemy and once I slim down and my clothes feel comfortable I get complacent.

My goal for the next 12 weeks it to loose 7lbs. I hope this isn't too optimistic.
Day 1 so far so good but it's not even 9.30 yet.... 😬

poorpaws · 27/09/2022 10:02

@endlesswashing just don't give up, you can do it. I'm exactly like you, I gain so quickly but think what we'd both weigh if we gave up 😱

@Katiepants27 sorry I was very unclear but didn't want to give a boring list of my daily routine. To be clear DP arrives 8.30-9am. We have a coffee and go out a little later and are home a little before lunch for me to prepare a sandwich (and scone ☹️) for him and warm my soup.

We used to do 3.1/2 hour dog walks for about 4 years but now it's 2.1/2 as the dogs are getting older (one old arthritic dog, one 8 and slowing down, one 5 but a lazy greyhound) but they are very slow chatty walks.

I need to do something a little more energetic and also focus on my big tum.

Sorry I wasn't clear.

DP has a leaking water heater so he's late today. I've just ordered an oodie (to try to save on fuel bills). One thing I know is they aren't sexy 🤣. It's costing me a small fortune (air fryer, soup maker, oodie) to try to save money.

Hi all. I usually go to the gym during school run times so at about 09:00 or 14:00 for about 40mins.

For at home, if I have the energy, I do light exercising on a night time, varying for yoga, weights, mini pedalling, mini sit-ups, simulated running, tummy clenches) for about 30mins in total.

poorpaws · 27/09/2022 13:10

@TalkToTheHand123 Blimey I'm so impressed, very well done you. I need your willpower 🤔

I’ve just signed up for membership with a new gym that just opened near my house as I have hybrid working- when I would be commuting, I’ll be at the gym now as it’s between my house and childminder’s. The downside is if it’s busy at work I’ll have to be in 3 days & home 2, so that gives me less days to go… but on the other hand I’ll get more out of a workout than rushing to get there of a lunch break, which I’ve done up til now.

Zebracat · 27/09/2022 14:31

@poorpaws . You lead a very active lifestyle. I wonder if you could try running for 1 minute every 15 mins during the dog walk. It ups the heart rate and turns on fat burning. I used to do this and it made a difference, cant walk the dogs at the moment ☹️. Alternative isa skipping rope, again for 1 minute every 15.

TalkToTheHand123 · 27/09/2022 15:49

Not much will power today @poorpaws . Forgot to bring soup with me today and ended up having a couple of pasties for lunch. Oh well! Will do extra mini sit-ups later to try limit the damage!

Made a nice casserole last night though mmm. Some leftovers to enjoy tonight as couldn't finish it.

TalkToTheHand123 · 28/09/2022 15:29

Not sure if it's the pasties or the mini sit-ups last night but it's been a windy morning 😯.

Zebracat · 28/09/2022 19:53

Oh dear. Think I self sabotaged today. I was really really hungry yesterday, I went swimming and housewifed so I ate 200 calories more than my allowance. I put it down to watching Bake-off, but it actually stopped me sleeping. Weighed this morning and I’d lost over a pound. This was really not the day to make a delicious apple cake, but I did, and had a big slice with icecream. I think my will power is weak when I don’t sleep well. But I didn’t have extra carbs with my quiche and salad. I am 600 over my allowance, but within my maintenance . It’s so tricky. I don’t want to live my life eating only salad and egg white omelettes. I loved the cake, but I’m worried about the rest of it sitting on the work top. Dh won’t let me offer it to the neighbours. Would it be terrible to eat it for breakfast instead of porridge?

TalkToTheHand123 · 28/09/2022 23:35

Surely apple cake is one of your five a day?

I feel like I've expanded after stuffing my face, although quite healthy food egg and mushroom sandwiches and salads. I've done a few extra mini sit-ups and doing tummy clenches before I nod off, so I'm hoping my metabolism helps me in the morning.

Zebracat · 29/09/2022 11:05

@TalkToTheHand123 It is very apply apple cake

TalkToTheHand123 · 29/09/2022 14:27

Been doing a fair bit of exercise recently and been absolutely zonked. Starting to get sore muscles around the belly, which seems to be as a result of doing the mini situps, hopefully the belly will get less wobbly.

poorpaws · 29/09/2022 19:24

Well, as the saying goes, be careful what you wish for. I've been asking (moaning) where I can fit exercise into my busy day. Suddenly I have all the time in the world as on yesterday's walk, Cassie (my middle 8 year old dog) damaged her back leg very badly. Saw the vet and she's going to be ok but needs a long rest from any walking (plus painkillers) so I'm stuck at home with her whilst DP takes the other two. I'm hoping 🤞🏻to reverse roles with him tomorrow (although it's forecast a rainy day). Needless to say I've had all day at home and still haven't exercised so I obviously just don't want to do it.

@TalkToTheHand123 I thought about you yesterday and today. Yesterday I made three batches of soup, one for DD, one for DP and one batch for me (five portions per batch). I had a production line going in my soup kitchen.😁

Today I made DP another five portions, because quite honestly he's a bit of a 🐷. I am getting a lot of use out of this soup maker.

So how is everyone doing on week 1 of our 12 week challenge? I hope everyone is making a good start. It's very cold here tonight so cereals for supper and a cosy bed for me. I'm just hoping this reduction in walking doesn't scupper by weight loss attempts. It makes me realise how I take our morning walks for granted because today I've done 4,000 steps instead of 14,000 plus 😩

Katiepants27 · 29/09/2022 19:56

Well with one day left of September, I have to admit that I've not met my goal. I'm still 2lb away from it. Mustn't let it take away from the 6lbs that I did lose though!

How has everyone else done for September?

@poorpaws sorry to hear about your injured pooch. First few days of Christmas challenge have gone OK... have had healthy meals, but still too much snacking. Really must nip that in the bud. Have been for a morning walk each day which is making me feel much better as well.

Zebracat · 29/09/2022 21:18

Oh dear, I’ve got a bit confused. I think the challenge started on Monday. I seem to have lost 4 pounds since then. It feels wrong. I weigh in kilos generally so I might be cocking this up. I think I am losing weight too quickly. It’s not healthy, but mŷ last blood test showed prediabetes and I have this massively important pre op assessment on 20/10, so I will carry on as I am until then, and try to then slow down a bit.
I made a truly delicious veggie curry today, roasted butternut squash, red pepper, spinach and coconut. We had a shop bought quiche last night so I shoved the squash and pepper in the oven with it then, and dinner tonight took 20 minutes.

Zebracat · 29/09/2022 21:24

Just checked again, it’s 2.5 pounds.😊

TalkToTheHand123 · 29/09/2022 22:07

Aww@poorpaws love hearing people on the soup, although a bit miffed as I thought I'd be losing a lot more weight and at a much quicker rate.

Anyhoo, gentle visit to the gym (where I managed to lock myself out as left my access card in the wallet part of my phone case and had to wait for someone to let me back in ☺️) and a fair few mini sit-ups as feeling bigger / more bloated so hoping metabolism gets me back on track tomorrow.🤔

Chattycathydoll · 29/09/2022 22:40

I’m being so lazy about counting calories. I know I shouldn’t be. I’m going to try to count frm tomorrow because otherwise it’s so easy to just sneak bits in without realising it. I’m just so tired all the time which makes it hard!

TalkToTheHand123 · 30/09/2022 07:44

Aww @Chattycathydoll I think I'll have to nap when I get back in from school run then gym. Went to bed and sleep a couple hours earlier than usual but still tired. Going to try get to bed and sleep even earlier as dd(6) went to bed earlier but still a big effort to get her out of bed for school. Need a better routine for more sleep!

poorpaws · 30/09/2022 08:00

Hi everyone

Talking about being tired, I think it's because the weather has got so much colder. I did far less yesterday than I normally do but I was exhausted last night (although I think some of it might have been stress worrying about my dog) but as soon as it gets colder I get more tired, need warming food And an early night. I went to bed really early last night, read a bit of Mumsnet and must've fallen to sleep much earlier than I thought I would.

@Zebracat 2.5 lbs is really hard to lose, you are doing so well.

I've still not weighed myself since Monday (I felt sure I would cave) but I was definitely obsessing about my lack of steps yesterday. It's very cold here again today but I want to get a lot of clothes on and get out there with two of the dogs. DP will probably fall asleep if he stays home with Cassie, he always falls to sleep 😴

I told you I'd bought an air fryer a few weeks ago. Has anyone else got one? I've used it quite a bit but I'm thinking of making a cake in it and I feel a bit nervous about that so I wondered if any of you had successfully made one. Suppose I shouldn't make one really because I'm a bit of a cake fiend and I'll probably eat a huge amount but I'd love to see if I can make a decent one.

Happy Friday everyone, nearly the weekend where it seems most of us struggle so do your best.

OP posts:
endlesswashing · 30/09/2022 09:34

Aw sorry to hear about your dog @poorpaws wishing them a speedy recovery.

Well done @Zebracat 2.5lbs is great and the week isn't finished yet!

I think the tiredness is the change in the seasons @Chattycathydoll and @TalkToTheHand123 in the endless household we are struggling to get up because of the darker mornings. Now it's more chilly in the evenings I want more stodgy hot food and warm drinks not sure these will help my waistline. Think I'll dig out the slow cooker and make a stew / casserole at the weekend. My DDs are unlikely to eat it but DH might. If not more portions for me and thr freezer.

Zebracat · 30/09/2022 10:12

Well over a pound is back on this morning!. Think it’s the cake . It was a fairly low fat/ low sugar, lots of apples recipe. And I’ve had it for breakfast. Even so, weights gone back on.

TalkToTheHand123 · 30/09/2022 16:04

@Zebracat cake for breakfast😂, the kind of thing I would do.

Just had a carvery, tried to talk myself into going for the smaller plate but ended up the regular one ☺️. Although not sure why, but didn't taste as good as I'd hoped. Not sure if I'm getting taste buds or just going off food (except ice cream🤭). Maybe talking myself out of taste for dieting🤔😂

Good luck to all dieting with seasonal changes.
