@poorpaws Thankyou, That’s a comfort.

TalkToTheHand123 · 15/09/2022 00:27

I just thought as a one off, it would be ok, but it seems even the slightest treat can cause a weight gain, which I just don't have the patience for now, so will just have to keep saying no thanks from now on.

poorpaws · 15/09/2022 07:52

Two NSVs for me yesterday.

  1. I had a white skirt delivered at the beginning of lockdown and it was too small but I couldn't be bothered to send it back. I was meeting my SIL yesterday so tried the skirt on and actually went out in it! To be fair it's an M&S skirt size 12 so probably a large12 but it did feel good that I could now go out in it.
  1. I sat with my coffee and watched SIL eating a huge chunk of cake and it didn't bother me. Now I am the original cake monster and we were together for three hours which made my dinner very late but I just had Will Power with me and I didn't mind just sipping my coffee and that is most definitely a first.

I also felt a tiny bit thinner yesterday and the words Rosemary Connolly uses came into my head and stuck "nothing tastes as good as being slim feels", it's true.

Have a good day everyone and keep away from the cake.

I had a kind of small nsv yesterday too @poorpaws . We had a KFC takeaway and I didn't finish it. It doesn't sound like much, but normally I'd have practically inhaled it. Did not feel like eating that much food.

TalkToTheHand123 · 15/09/2022 11:01

Sounds like some very good habits 😊. Great feeling not being able to finish a meal.😂

I've often ate foods that look delicious, but don't like the taste of🤔, even though I've ate them before. Never made sense and even worse when full of calories. Improved a lot though recently.

Failing miserably on getting early nights, but will keep trying.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 15/09/2022 14:20

@Zebracat I never watched the old YAWYE but this one has Tricia Goddard and Dr Amir Khan, and they're both lovely Smile - what struck me more than the actual food bit was the psychology and the structure - I mean they must have people behind the scenes supplying the participants with shopping lists/ recipes/ workouts - I wonder if they also provide therapists, as a couple of the participants mentioned therapy? It'd be interesting to see a follow up programme to see if people continued losing weight when/ if that support was removed, if they just needed that initial help to begin with and then they could follow a routine!

It does always make me think though (when I see these people's appalling diets) "oooh I just fancy a pizza" Grin - which clearly isn't the point! I have faith in you too Flowers

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 15/09/2022 14:38

@poorpaws that's a great offer for the soup maker! I don't mean to sound a bit dim here but does it work like a slow cooker?! You put all the ingredients in, it heats everything slowly and then at the end you can blend it if you like?

Well done on resisting the Cake!! Will your SIL be staying nearby or is she still looking to move? You reminded me how much I used to love my Rosemary Conley exercise class, it was a sad day (for me, and presumably for Rosemary too!) when they went to the wall. Oh and well done to you and @BeyondMyWits for the NSVs!

@TalkToTheHand123 DTS1 loves ice cream and he's such a fussy eater that we always keep some in just in case he's ill and won't have anything else... I hide it from myself at the back of the freezer Grin MIL is a terrible feeder, she's lovely but will constantly offer biscuits/ sweets/ cake to everyone, even though she's overweight and diabetic herself Hmm

I did a big food shop last night - only went to the nearby Lidl but honestly, the way DP moans about it you'd think I'd gone on a week long spa break - came back to find him ranting and raving about how horrible DTS2 is. TBH DTS2 is pretty horrible at the moment - he can be rude, ungrateful and just unpleasant to be around - he also gets incredibly tired in the evenings, which makes his behaviour exponentially worse. DP faffs around for hours rather than just putting him to bed and it's clearly a recipe for disaster!

I do wonder if there's something really bothering DTS2 that he can't explain to us properly - he is not quite 7, after all - he's stopped enjoying his sports clubs as DTS1 is just better than him at them, and it's put him off. I've told him that it doesn't matter how 'good' you are at these things, it's for enjoyment and fitness, but I can see how it must be depressing for him as DTS1 is far more sporty! DP thinks he should go anyway but I don't see the point of paying for him to sit on the sidelines, I could take him for a walk/ swimming and he'd enjoy those more. But then perhaps it's worth it in case he wants to join in? I really want to make him see the social benefits of exercise too and am a bit confused in general about the whole issue Confused

Zebracat · 15/09/2022 15:22

I had a takeaway last night too, and several victories were involved. I lobbied for Turkish food, because it’s grilled meat and plain rice. They ordered starters too which aren’t so great, but I controlled what I ate, walked away when I was full, and logged every mouthful. Still seem to have gained this morning , but it could have been worse. I have had a small break fast and lunch today.
I will look at YAWYE.
CLARA. I’m just wondering if your little boy is tired with starting back at school? Definitely would try a consistent, slightly earlier bedtime. It might be worth exploring other activities with him. What does he like doing?

poorpaws · 15/09/2022 18:21

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl The soup maker. It looks a bit like a kettle. You chop up, say carrots and onions, add stock pots, garlic, sweet chilli (or whatever you want) to the minimum line on the soup maker, then add cold water (about three quarters of a litre) to the maximum mark. Secure the lid (which has a blade attached), choose smooth or chunky mode (I always like the smooth soup) press start. It warms the water, cooks the veg and liquidises it and in 21 mins you have perfect and very hot soup, it has a keep warm feature too. You don't have to peel the veg unless you want to or if it's particularly nasty skin and you don't need really small chunks so it's a doddle. I used to spend a long time cubing the veg very small and never ever got it as smooth as the soup maker. It's fantastic.

If you are considering getting one I would do it pretty soon because several of my friends and dog walking acquaintances are buying them out on my recommendation. I don't want you to miss out

Aww enjoy your soup makers. I've just made a big pot full, filling 6 large tubs. 3 put in fridge, 3 put in freezer. Adding more water content as I haven't been losing much weight lately. I'll use a third of a mug with soup and add boiled water. Hoping this works 😂.

poorpaws · 16/09/2022 07:38

@TalkToTheHand123 what flavour soup do you make? Do you ring the changes or just make one flavour? My very favourite is parsnip but I quite like carrot. When I made it with lots of different veg I didn't like the flavour but that could just be me, I have plain tastes. I was told that pickled onions work well but I've not tried them, I use largish onions.

TalkToTheHand123 · 16/09/2022 15:33

Hi @poorpaws . I usually just chuck some frozen mixed veg from the freezer in the pot. I've started adding extra peas as quite like the mushy pea flavour, but not really bothered if it helps me lose weight. (Although not much weight loss recently).

Theredjellybean · 17/09/2022 15:25

i am so now wanting a soup maker.
i am a sucker for kitchen gadgets....:)
I wonder though if the calorie count is any different to bought soups..might be worth do the maths if one of you feels brave enough.
If you are using peas/parsnips/pototo/sweetcorn or other root veg then it might be more than you think..sadly
not stopping me wanting one though
today my weight was 71.1 kgs..so really quite surprised
but pleased and yesterday i was allowed to do my first rehabilitation run..a whole 500ms !! but it is first run since november 2021 and it FELT SO GOOD.

Theredjellybean · 17/09/2022 15:27

@poorpaws well done on the skirt fitting..that is a huge victory
and which soup maker do you all reccommend

poorpaws · 17/09/2022 17:40

@Theredjellybean google Mole Valley Farmers, search Morphy Richards soup maker, 50% off atm, £35 plus p&p. Bargain! Will sell out fast cos loads of my friends have ordered one as it's such a good price.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 17/09/2022 17:43

@Theredjellybean I'm going to try celery soup next because that's got to be low on calories. I totally see that parsnip will be high but carrot won't be too bad I think (hope).

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 17/09/2022 20:50

@Theredjellybean A bit surprised at the sugar content but watering it down when cooking and then adding boiling water. Loses a bit of taste but not too bad.

First night in a long time of no ice cream. Hoping this does the trick as nothing else to give up 😳

TalkToTheHand123 · 17/09/2022 20:51

*adding boiling water to a portion when consuming.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 17/09/2022 23:01

@Theredjellybean I'm not sure of about the calorie count but I think home made soup would be much better for you in terms of salt content and so on? We had to look at the nutritional details on a tin of chicken & veg soup as part of the diabetes course and it was a bit shocking Shock

@poorpaws I ummm'ed and ahhh'ed about the soup maker and then... cracked a filling today, meaning liquids only till I can get to a dentist Confused and of course it had to happen at the start of a bank holiday weekend and of course NHS dentists are rarer than unicorns in our area at the moment! I've ordered the soup maker Grin

For anyone else looking at the Mole Valley website - I added two indoor hyacinths to my order and got free delivery - so £37 in total for the soup maker and 2 x hyacinth packs.

@Zebracat I really try to get DTS2 in bed early - he's shattered and so horrible by 7pm - but DP is the world's biggest and laziest faffer so it rarely happens! I think your suggestion of looking at other activities is a good one, I don't see the point of making him do things he's not enjoying when he could be trying other things. He does need to keep active as I can see that otherwise he may well turn into a chubby child - he's a good eater! - but he could equally do walking/ swimming/ try something else he might like. Of course I don't say to him that he needs to burn off some weight, but I am mindful of it!

poorpaws · 18/09/2022 08:02

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl so pleased to hear you've ordered the soup maker (and wished I'd done the same as you instead of paying £5.99 delivery charge). My friends one arrived earlier this week and so far she loves it. I know so many friends/acquaintances who have ordered it now, I hope they've got a lot in stock.

I've been working so hard on my diet and losing nothing which sent me into a chocolate binge last night. I don't keep chocolate in to just eat but I always keep it for any baking. To be honest I didn't even enjoy it, it really was a "sod it" moment and of course this morning I'm regretting it like hell and it cost me 1.5 lbs on the scales.

I'm spending a lot of time trying to get used to this new air fryer. So far I've cooked a whole chicken, a gammon joint, fruit scones, jacket potatoes and large fishcakes. Today i'm trying chicken breasts. I can't say anything has exactly failed but there's been something not quite right with most of the things Ive cook and I'm trying to get my head around what I need to do to get it just right. I just can't imagine a cake working but people tell me it does work.

Have a good Sunday everyone. I'm off to have a shower and then a long dog walk to try and get this chocolate gain off.

16st 6 this morning. 2lb lost, which sounds ok but I ate far too much yesterday, including lots of bread, which seems to now cause bloating. So I’m 2lbs heavier than yesterday. So annoyed with myself.

Theredjellybean · 18/09/2022 11:04

the 1L version is on sale on Amazon for £32.99

Theredjellybean · 18/09/2022 11:06

@Zebracat ..but you are still 2 lbs lighter
Always try to look at loss not the ups and downs over the week and remember if you had not joined this thread and werent even trying you would actually now be 2 lbs heavier than your starting weight
so going down, even if not as much as you had at some point int his week is still an overall downward trend and not upward ..

Zebracat · 18/09/2022 21:17

@Theredjellybean Thank you. You’re absolutely right, and as I ve been travelling all day and eating crap, tomorrow could well be worse, but I’ve still made better choices than in the past, had cake for lunch, not after lunch!

poorpaws · 19/09/2022 07:58

@Theredjellybean I took a look on amazon but the compact one is only really suitable for two large servings and it's not such a high spec in that it doesn't keep soup warm and (I think, I looked at so many) mine has a self clean (which if it does, I haven't used) so I think at £34.99 it's a better deal and only takes 2 minutes longer to cook. I wanted to freeze extra portions.

In diet news I've done badly, very badly. Two nights of bingeing on scones (cooked in air fryer 😀) plus endless other treats. I'm going to do better this week and start exercising!!! I keep saying it and must do it.

DPs birthday Wednesday so that will be fish and chips plus a triple ice cream (our tradition, he won't go to restaurants).

Have a good dieting day everyone. Dog walk will be delayed here as DP wants to watch the funeral before we go out.
