I will weigh tomorrow as normal, it is what it is...

@poorpaws I prefer a bbq on a diet. Marinated chicken skewers, salmon/trout, sweet potato baked in foil in the embers, corn on the cob, salad galore. Stay away from the burgers/sausages/bread and oily dressings and it is easy to consume fewer calories.

TalkToTheHand123 · 28/08/2022 21:18

Argh, just weighed myself and nearly 15 and a half stone. Going to have to start saying no to pudding at my parents house and thinking of documenting what I eat now. It was going so well 😂

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 28/08/2022 23:09

We're going away tomorrow for a few days, I might be able to read MN but won't be able to post (as the app STILL does not work for me since the website changes Angry) - good luck to anyone weighing in tomorrow!

poorpaws · 29/08/2022 07:57

A mix of positive and negative this morning. I have lost 1.5 lbs since last Monday which is obviously good (although I had been gaining until this week). But I've gained yet another half pound from nowhere whilst being amazingly good and it's so unfair. The extra bad news is that I'm now too far away from my August goal to ever meet it 😡 and I'm so upset.

I don't mind gaining if I deserve it, if I've eaten too much, eaten the wrong food or not moved so much but I haven't, I've been working on my weight and fitness so it's just unfair.

I hope everyone else has a good result today.

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl I hope you have a lovely time whilst away.

BeyondMyWits · 29/08/2022 08:37

Hiya all... stayed the same this week. 15st 9lb, not too surprised as minimum effort was made. Onwards... (and downwards hopefully). Good luck or commiserations to everyone. End of the month is feeling a bit meh...

September is a whole other month.
Not setting a target - other than NOT going up to sixteen anything- as Dd21 is off to uni abroad at the end of September and I am finding things SO stressful. Cannot think of anything else.

Good luck all.

TalkToTheHand123 · 29/08/2022 08:51

Aww pp, it's so frustrating not losing when being good!

Weighing early this morning and last night's weight was a bit over reaction as back under 15 stone now. Weight increase seems to be a lot of bloat.

Getting a few gentle tummy clenches in bed before DD(6) wakes up!

Anyone do any cheeky little exercise routines?

TalkToTheHand123 · 29/08/2022 15:01

Currently with DD(6) in a carvery pub but just opted for an ice cream as I get myself stuffed as a kippa and all the rest that comes with it!

May need to leave soon before I lose the willpower.

BeyondMyWits · 29/08/2022 17:32

@TalkToTheHand123 I wish I could get into exercise, but my body aches so much (menopause brings many "friends" along for the ride) I don't drive though, so I do walk everywhere, which helps keep me fit.

triplecheeese · 29/08/2022 18:08

@BeyondMyWits good luck to you and your DD. I hope the move goes smoothly and she settles in quickly (and so do you ❤️)

Gave myself a kick up the backside, though I say that so often I'm surprised I can sit down. DH did a half marathon on Sunday so I jogged with the kids round the park in the buggy for a good 40 min or so until DS1 (who is too big for the running buggy and will only humour me so
long) refused to go any further. I also left DH and the kids to morning chaos and went for a swim at 7am. First time I've swum since having the baby and it was great. House was a tip when I got back but kids were mostly wearing clothes.

Annoyed at 10st 5.5 so missing the August goal of 10st 4, when I was there two weeks ago. I have bought me and DH fancy food flasks and a load more food storage containers and downloaded a home dumbbell programme. Come on September!

poorpaws · 29/08/2022 18:26

Oh bugger it's going so badly today. I decided with it being bank holiday I'd have a day off the diet, big mistake! Im always surprised how I can eat enough in just one day to ruin weeks of work ☹️ must do better tomorrow.

@triplecheeese you may already know this so I'm sorry if I'm stating the obvious but just in case, I have to mention...

Do you realise that at 10st 5 you are no longer overweight 😀 your BMI will be 25 and you'll be in the healthy weight category (albeit at the top of the range but still a healthy weight). Only half a pound to go and very, very well done you 👏👏. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. 🥇🎖

triplecheeese · 29/08/2022 20:39

@poorpaws oh my goodness I had not realised that at all! You've rolled that wagon right up to my door. I'll run behind it to work off that half a pound!

I am sure your bank holiday eating won't be too bad. This thread is all about real life and we know real life is full of events and socialising and rubbish and fun and we're all changing our habits to roll with them. When you get to 10st (and you will) you will still have these days and they will be balanced out by all of the great choices you normally make. I hear you're feeling disheartened but you are taking the time to cheer everyone on, check in here and stay accountable. I think that's brilliant.

The September wagon rolls on... Will Power has taken the reins... all aboard!

TalkToTheHand123 · 30/08/2022 10:13

I've got back to the no breakfast for as long as possible to try kick start some losses, but still a bit baffled why NHS say not to skip breakfast yet there are some diets for no breakfasting?

May have asked this before but my memory isn't the best! 😊

Katiepants27 · 30/08/2022 11:19

Hello, please could I join this thread? I saw the title and knew it was the one for me. I am the queen of failed diets 🤣

In all seriousness, I've been trying (and failing) to slim down for the past 3 years. Just losing and regaining the same 5lbs.

But I really do need to sort it out. I'm getting married in exactly 9 months time, and have already bought the dress, in a size smaller.

In theory, 9 months is a good amount of time to lose the weight, but if I keep delaying it and going 'I'll start tomorrow' then before I know it I'll have run out of time and be hating myself, wishing I'd done something about it now.

In the interest of full disclosure, I have a binge eating problem, which in all honesty is probably BED. I've never sought any help as it's a secret I've carried with me for the past 10-12 years. So that's my main battle - breaking that habit!

On the plus side, although I have a sedentary office job, I am very active in my spare time, and really do enjoy getting out walking or cycling etc. I'm hoping that can be my saving grace although I realise that it's mainly the food side which is important.

Have been putting off weighing myself (burying my head in the sand), but will do that tomorrow so I have a clear starting point.
I'm hoping that regular posting here will keep me accountable, and that the success of others will spur me on to my own.

poorpaws · 30/08/2022 11:56

Welcome @Katiepants27 you are in good company here without judgement. We all seem to follow different diet paths but all with the same goal. I too am a binge eater and have been trying to break the habit with little success. So far I have managed to go longer between binges and I'm working on walking the dogs, dvd exercise, cleaning the house to distract myself. Having said that I binged last night and I'm so sorry today. My binges always seem to be in the evenings when I get very bored as I'm not keen on tv. I don't want another one for a long time. My excuse was it was a bank holiday so stopped the diet for a day (then went crazy).

Some of us do mini goals each month. We decide how much we think we can lose or would like to lose and disclose the amount here and then try our best. I have to admit that my August goal was not met so I will make another goal for September and try again.

We are a very small group now but very supportive and some are doing so well. Welcome and enjoy!

I hope everyone has got over the bank holiday. Anyone setting a mini goal tomorrow? Think I might set a few pounds only for September so it's not too overwhelming. I'll have a think 🤔

OP posts:
poorpaws · 30/08/2022 12:03

@TalkToTheHand123 I can't help you as without the thought of breakfast I wouldn't get out of bed 🥴. I just don't know how people function without breakfast first thing. I just have porridge now as it's at least filling but I need to be eating it by 7.30am or I'm not fit to speak to. I'm sure someone else on here can help you.

OP posts:
Katiepants27 · 30/08/2022 13:06

@poorpaws thank you for the warm welcome.

I shall weigh myself tomorrow and report back with a mini goal for September!

TalkToTheHand123 · 30/08/2022 18:32

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl aw thanks for trying and I think I'm in the same boat. I struggled to function this morning so will go back to having breakfast.

Made a new batch of soup. Adding a bit more water content than last time.

poorpaws · 30/08/2022 22:14

@TalkToTheHand123 have you got a soup maker or do you use the hob. I said before I usually start making soup from late next month and I've been researching soup makers tonight. I just wondered if you had one and what you thought of it.

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 30/08/2022 22:41

Oops @ed the wrong person lol. I do @poorpaws somewhere but it would only do me a couple of tubs. I use a big pot which fills 6 or 7 600ml tubs once hand blended.

I'm only half filling the tubs now and going to top up with boiled water to add even more water content when I'm having one.

I've cut out quite a lot of rubbish these last few months but only losing very little. It's probably the extra yoghurt and ice cream so may try cut down on that too. It's a big tub of ice cream at the moment as I'm preferring bigger tubs to store as the smaller ones are taking too long to fill every time and will be using the tub once finished ☺️

I did manage to decline a sticky toffee pudding at my mams yesterday so hopefully I can keep declining and making a difference on the scales.

Katiepants27 · 31/08/2022 14:51

As promised, I weighed myself this morning (had to dust scales first as were covered in cobwebs - that shows how long ago I used them 😂).

Quite shocked to learn that I'm the heaviest I've ever been, at 12st 12 😱. If I'd had to guess I would have said 12st 7, so it's worse than I thought.

In an effort to 'start as I mean to go on', I went for a bike ride last night. I was quite nervous in the traffic as not cycled in about 12 months, and really, really unfit, but proud of myself for just doing it.

First day of diet going better than expected as woke up this morning with toothache that's put me off eating. I wouldn't really recommend it as a weight loss technique though as it's a bit sore!

Heading to the supermarket tonight armed with a meal plan and determined to not buy any naughty treats. Wish me luck!

September tomorrow and thinking about a mini goal. Is 12lbs too optimistic? I'd love to hit 12st exactly by the end of the month... I think it probably is a bit much, lets aim for 8lbs instead!

So current weight: 12st 12lbs
End goal weight: 10st
Mini goal for September: 12st 4lbs

Good luck everyone.

poorpaws · 31/08/2022 18:32

@TalkToTheHand123 well done with the watered down soup, you seem to be customising the soup downwards (calorie wise) on a regular basis. I'm still looking at soup makers but the bigger ones do seem expensive for what they do. Morphy Richards have a basic one just about half price but I'm not sure that it will be big enough. I'm so good at buying gadgets and then they live at the back of the cupboard unused.

Very well done on dodging the sticky toffee pudding, I don't think I could have done that.

@Katiepants27 my advice would be to not set too high a target for the first month in case it demotivates you and you feel like giving up (I know, I've been there). So much better to set a lower target and absolutely smash it, then you would feel amazing. Sadly I haven't smashed any great targets yet, but I might, I'm still optimistic and I'm still here trying which is the main thing. Don't feel despondent about your weight, with everyone's encouragement you'll be down a dress size before too long.

So my September goal! I would like to say 10st 7lbs but I don't think I can do it so I'll try for 10st 9lbs (sadly this was my August goal which I didn't meet ☹️). I will try harder this time but it's DPs birthday and I've got several outings planned which could include food. Having said that I regularly have outings planned and they come to nothing. I also hope to re-start my dvd exercises. I actually don't know why they stopped because I was doing really well.

So those of us setting a September goal (I know not everyone will), decide on your target and let us all know.

It's hard to believe it's September tomorrow, it doesn't seem long since it was July. September to smash it!

Can I rejoin? Had a terrible August due to personal stuff- both good and bad. So I’ve put weight on. I’ll weigh in tomorrow but think I’ll be around 11 2 so I’ll set my September target as 10 12 a loss of 4lb

TalkToTheHand123 · 01/09/2022 00:13

Thanks @poorpaws . It makes the soup stretch further too 😂. Hopefully it will help result in a loss.

I haven't bought any bread in the last few days. Hopefully the lack of sandwiches and toasties help too with weight loss.

Trying not to weigh myself for a few days for a nice surprise on the scales, but odds on no loss!😳

poorpaws · 01/09/2022 07:43

@Readytostartagain hi, pleased to have you back. Life does get in the way sometimes but we've got to keep trying.

@TalkToTheHand123 I can't seem to keep away from those pesky scales, I weigh every morning. 🤞🏻 for a nice surprise when you get back on them. I think I've decided on a Morphy Richards soup maker. I just can't decide whether to get the basic one or one that sautés the veg for a richer taste. Most likely get the basic one but I'll keep researching for a little longer.

It's definitely autumnal here this morning ☹️. I'll be back in jeans instead of a summer skirt very soon.

So September, that came round very quickly, hopefully some good weight loss results by the end of September.
