Hard to believe itโ€™s April already ๐Ÿ˜ฎ. Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in๐Ÿ˜Š What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Thanks! Smile I think I'm going to start by committing to taking my metformin and my vitamins daily and just start 3 meals a day. 2 low carb and the dinner a healthy, balanced carb! If I must snack then snack on some protein, veg or fruit. So hard to do though, cravings are so bad.

Foreverlexicon · 03/04/2022 00:38

Hello all!
I am back from Thailand and frankly, it was wonderful.

Not so wonderful, Iโ€™m back to work full time
and poorly to boot. Cracking headache abs actually vomited this morning. Not sure how I got through my shift but hey ho.

Iโ€™ve kept an eye on my calories the last couple of days, not had a huge appetite with jetlag yesterday and poorly today but will get stricter from tomorrow. Not exercising yet, need this illness to sod off. Iโ€™ve only gained about 4-5lb though which Iโ€™m pleased about as I didnโ€™t go easy on the cocktails!

Immediately frustrated with work again; I was forced onto a unit I didnโ€™t want to be in November which partly triggered my poor
MH. Itโ€™s been much better since Iโ€™ve been back and been working mostly day shifts so I offered to extend my attachment for a few months. Only now theyโ€™ve decided Iโ€™ll need to stick to my usual 24/7 shift pattern. Bit stuck now as secretly extended it to get an easier time of it shiftwise whilst I become a horse grandma (4-6 weeks to go!) but I sold the idea as wanting the full benefit of the attachment Hmm wretched place; shouldโ€™ve picked a career based on money rather than โ€˜wanting to make a differenceโ€™ but hey ho!

@SunshineCake1 Iโ€™m so sorry to hear everything has spiralled so badly and I do hope she gets in touch soon. Have they explained why theyโ€™ve stopped looking? Feel free to pm me if you arenโ€™t clear and need a bit of a police perspective.

Apologies to not reply to everybody personally, Iโ€™ve read through it all but my brain is absolute mush.

nokidshere · 03/04/2022 01:18

Hi all, can I join?

I've been calorie counting since January with an app called Nutracheck. 3 well balanced meals a day with little snacking and I've lost 19lbs.

I have 1200 calories a day because my mobility is very limited. However, for the past 3 weeks I've stayed the same weight and there's conflicting evidence to say whether I should increase or decrease my calorie intake.

Any thoughts for kick starting loss again would be very welcome.

My day looks like this:

Breakfast: 2 rashers lean bacon, poached egg, tinned tomatoes. Coffee

Lunch: 2 crisp breads, cottage cheese, 2 slices of ham, apple, celery

Dinner: chicken or fish, potatoes, cauliflower, green beans, chocolate mousse

Everything is weighed and counted and I try to keep the carbs low. I have 2 coffees a day and about 4 glasses of water. Some days I struggle to even have all 1200 available calories.

fallfallfall · 03/04/2022 01:54

welcome home @Foreverlexicon, well done on sticking to 5lbs!!
i look forward to the new addition photo's :)
in the mean time you sound in control of the work challenges, stay focused on your mh.
@secretspooner, even if it's just a scrap piece of paper write down your goals and tick off some boxes!!
welcome @nokidshere. personally i would increase my muscle mass with some strength training and maybe increase fluids? resistance bands or using your own body weight nothing too fancy if your mobility is limited.

Harmonyrays · 03/04/2022 04:32

Hi everyone I'd like to join you all!
Long time yo-yo dieter, with history of b/p.
Trying to look at a long term solution vs short term drastic measures which inevitably fail!

So
SW 96.6kg
CW 84kg
GW 60kg (giving myself 15 months!!)

Good luck all

Cheermonger · 03/04/2022 06:28

Can I join please? Just dared to get on scales and weighed at 12.10. That means Iโ€™ve put on more than half of what I list by last year. Why do I do this stupid yo yoing nearly every winter.

None of my clothes fit and I feel gross. Youโ€™re all doing so well Iโ€™m inspired by you, getting healthier even during tough times

Libertybear80 · 03/04/2022 06:52

Hi All
SW 73.4kg
CW 70.2kg
TW 66.3kg

I'm following the Noom app. It's been working so far but I've been ill this week which hasn't helped my focus. Can't wait to drop below 70kg.

Keep going everyone x

ginsparkles · 03/04/2022 07:11

Morning all,

Welcome to @Cheermonger @Harmonyrays @secretspooner @nokidshere

@Crazzzycat ... thank you, yep it's really painful, makes me struggle to breath. They have said I may be back to normal activity around June! Apparently it's very common with the Omicron variant to be left with this condition.

@buzzofthebumblebee ... hope you had an amazing fancy night last night!

Yesterday went all wrong! Will power faltered! My days off are always the worst. So back at work today and mind reset.

Meals planned for today:
Mushroom pasta salad
Scampi with a side salad
(Two salad helpings to off set yesterday's disaster!)

GalactatingGoddess · 03/04/2022 07:34

I feel like I join one of these every few months but here I am again, kicking myself for my inconsistency and weight gain.

SW: 12s2 size 14
GW: 11 stone and toned (would be a healthy uk 12 for me)
Ultimate GW: 10s7!

I'd gotten down to 11s10 so I'm very annoyed I'm back up 6lbs.
I've got into a habit of when I have one bad day, telling myself I may as well have a couple more which then turns into a week.

Todays plan:

  • Breakfast early as I've woken ravenous so Greek yog and fruit 250 cals
  • Gym class 9.15
  • Dinner: bacon sarnie with fruit 500 cals
  • Tea: jacket pot and salad 500 cals

But then looking at this it's too many cals as I'll be having cups of tea too which add an extra 150 cals ๐Ÿ˜– maybe half a bacon sarnie and fruit

Foreverlexicon · 03/04/2022 07:52

Token Elephant photo! We went to a fantastic sanctuary where the sum of their work is to stand and get snacks from tourists. No chains, no riding, no force. Very happy elephants just getting fed snacks. It was wonderful. One was really obsessed with the smell of my trainers and kept snuffling at my foot Grin

Checking in, March started well but found it hard to stick to so back to where i started!

Crazzzycat · 03/04/2022 08:37

Welcome to the thread @Cheermonger @Harmonyrays @secretspooner @nokidshere and @GalactatingGoddess

@nokidshere, whenever I hear the words โ€œweightloss plateauโ€, I like to share this article, as itโ€™s completely changed how I think of them. Apparently hitting one, while frustrating, is actually a really good thing for your body.

www.secondnature.io/guides/mind/motivation/weight-loss-plateaus-explained

Thereโ€™s also this article, with advice on how to break through a plateau:

www.secondnature.io/guides/mind/motivation/overcome-weight-loss-plateau

@Graphista, good to see you back! If I were you, Iโ€™d start by slowly easing myself back into calorie counting. I find habits are much more likely to stick, if I take it one step at a time and not try to change everything radically in one go.

@Foreverlexicon, your holiday sounds fab! Sorry to hear your job is causing you stress. Wanting to make a difference can be really motivational for a good few years, but it doesnโ€™t make up for having a shitty job or a bad work-life balance. Look after your mental health.

@ginsparkles, expected to be back to normal by June?! Thatโ€™s a long time ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

@buzzofthebumblebee feeling good in a nice dress at a posh party is a fantastic NSV! I hope you had a blast and enjoyed every second of it.

SingaporeSlinky · 03/04/2022 08:39

Morning all and welcome to new joiners.

I seem to be up 2lbs this morning! Iโ€™m hoping itโ€™s water weight from a cheeky few slices of pizza last night, which took me over my calories for the day of course. Also had a kit kat a few times towards the end of the week. But Iโ€™m trying not to panic, because this seems to happen every couple of weeks - I go up slightly, worry itโ€™s because Iโ€™ve eaten too much (even though Iโ€™ve been to the gym 5 times this week and a few days of being โ€˜overโ€™ my cals is still below 1500), then have a few days of ultra low (800-900) and it falls off again, and then some.

Crazzzycat · 03/04/2022 09:24

I forgot to post my own update ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ I had a good day yesterday. I felt pretty pleased with myself after taking my monthly waist measurement. Iโ€™ve lost 11 inches off my waist since I started sorting myself out last year!

My DH compared my previous figure to that of a camel...Iโ€™m sure that if I posted that on the AIBU forum I would be told by everyone that I should LTB, but I actually thought it was pretty funny ๐Ÿ˜‚ (Iโ€™m pretty sure it was intended as a factual observation, not some kind of criticism)

Anyway, I completed another long rowing session, but any weightloss benefits were most likely offset by a trip to a fancy chocolate shop. I didnโ€™t buy many chocolates, but I did eat them all! ๐Ÿ˜‹ Ah well, at least that means I donโ€™t need to try and resist them today!

Have a good day everyone

SingaporeSlinky · 03/04/2022 10:05

Wow @Crazzzycat 11 inches is amazing! Well done you!

ginsparkles · 03/04/2022 13:38

@Crazzzycat yeah it's called costochondritis. And it can take some time to resolve. It's feeling a little better but I have to walk slowly, and take frequent stops to stop myself being out of breath and in pain.

It also seems to have attacked the scar tissue in my spin where I broke my back, so that's hurting more than normal, but hey Ho, I'm alive and so determined to make the most of stuff!

So far so good today food wise, but it's once I get home I tend to fall off the wagon!!

Graphista · 03/04/2022 14:41

I think easing myself in may be the way to go.

I'm already still on diet soda and earl grey tea no milk and sweetener or water so drinks side ok it's definitely the food, mainly snacks side.

Yesterday was hopeless as I went out and ate out I always find that really hard to do in a healthy way - but both calorie wise and financially I need to do much better with that. I cannot be buying hot chocolates and cakes/desserts all the time I go out! It was kinda ok when it was a once a fortnight treat but not now

I'm gonna take a wee look back at my starting food diaries I still have them on the phone and see what I was having

One thing I am struggling with is can't get carrot batons ANYWHERE (they're my crisps substitute) so I need an alternative. I have lots of sweet peppers in so will use them this week perhaps celery going forward. Anyone know if there's an issue with carrot supplies? Cos even though I couldn't use them even loose carrots seem to be in short supply.

Graphista · 03/04/2022 14:52

Ok first thing I'm noticing is I was having much more fresh fruit and veg when I was losing weight and lately I've been having hardly any, which is also bad from a nutritional perspective so must rectify that

Also not been having my Actimel regularly which does help with bloating,

The one good thing about having my old diaries on my spreadsheet app is it's easy to look up cals tor the stuff I have regularly

I've woken late as I've had a busy week and this was first day I didn't have to set an alarm so I'm shattered

I'm also starving BUT I am going to be sensible and instead of raiding the snacks have -

Veggie deli sandwiches
Pepper sticks and low fat hummus
Low cal milk pud
Actimel
Cereal bar
Some fruit of some kind

Dinner - quorn cottage pie and steamed veggies

Supper - pepper sticks seasoned, a FEW crackers and cottage cheese, fruit, cereal bar

I think - I need to work out the cals for all that also need to weigh self and see how many cals nhs suggest which is how I did it before and that worked for me

fallfallfall · 03/04/2022 15:10

Iโ€™m so so looking forward to seeing nice numbers (anything below 150 would be so inspiring) but Iโ€™m fearful itโ€™s 160+ so plan to continue my 800 plan for one more week before weighting in.
No glitches yesterday, crepes 300, veggies for lunch 100, pad thai 397.
Iโ€™ll be balancing breakfast and lunch better today.

Graphista · 03/04/2022 15:38

@fallfallfall sorry is that lbs kilos?

Well done for staying on plan yesterday

I've had a pleasant surprise on weigh in which I was expecting to be over 14 stone - 13 stone 6.75lbs!

It's a bit up on last weigh in but only a few lbs which considering how I've been eating is a bloody miracle!

So nhs says 1448-1862 cals so I'm aiming for 1450 for now

8stone13 · 03/04/2022 15:39

Day 92 - Sun 3rd April - 9s 2 & 3/4lb
BMI 21.3
BF 23.7

An undeserved result as I had fish & chips last night!

Mad busy catching up at home post-London, plus kids' Easter hols underway, but will try & read through the thread soon ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Welcome all new joiners ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป

fallfallfall · 03/04/2022 16:59

DH has totally sabotaged my breakfast, i could scream! and none of what i'm doing is rocket science. just cutting back on extra calories SO instead of a boiled egg (ONE EGG) he fried up 4, gave some to the dog and a bigger bit to himself but still the extra butter on the pan was not needed. the one piece of bread was fine vs his two, BUT cheese! he melted cheese on both the bottom and top of the egg.
i took off the top half of the bread so cut down on that and took off the egg section that was falling off the side.
then to piss me off even more if such a thing is possible he bought cara cara oranges at some point (while i was away most likely), they are bland and dry and i loath them.

Gonnagetgoing · 03/04/2022 17:04

Havenโ€™t been bothering to weigh but am 11 stone 3/4 llb. Running after a 3 year old must burn some calories?!

Had roast chicken dinner yesterday, peach and almond low fat muffins x 3, raspberries, 2 x peaches. Lunch yesterday was 1 x Linda McCartney sausage, baked beans and cheese on toast with tomatoes.

Breakfast a New York bagel but sourdough with red onion and had one side plain with margarine, 1 side peanut butter and marmite.

For snack had 1 x cheese string.

Had 20 minute walk today.

fallfallfall · 03/04/2022 17:05

@Graphista, my heart truly goes out to those in the 150=160kg range. that must be a very difficult position to be in.
i'm in the 150-160lb range. solidly stuck at 158 prior to my week long trip to montreal which i'm sure resulted in a 5+lb gain. my food choices were embarrassing, partially driven by a lack of transportation and the reason i was there in the first place the need to help my mom pack and move to a 65+ apartment complex.

Graphista · 03/04/2022 17:40

@fallfallfall that's really tough with your mum.

Always harder to eat healthily if not at home I think and you have less control on anything

I'm 85.6 kg approx apparently I can't get my head around kg though stones makes more sense to me. So annoyed at myself as I WAS previously on track to be a healthy weight by my birthday and that ain't gonna happen now but I will aim for healthier and lighter than I am now. Based on previous rate of approx 0.5lbs a week that's around 1/2 stone off so under 13 stone so I'll aim for that

Just thinking I'll do a new goals schedule too
